FRESHERS' WEEK WRISTBAN D
One of the most important purchases for Freshers’ Week is the Freshers’ Week wristband. This will get you free entry into all the live entertainment events, the big party nights, ceilidhs, comedy, club nights, the Freshers’ Ball, See the City tours and everything else provided by EUSA in Freshers’ Week. The Freshers’ Week wristband is only £40 for entry to all events for the whole week and could save you a lot of cash if you are planning on going to more than one or two things.
How to get your Freshers’ Week wristband: You can buy your wristband online or on arrival. To buy your wristband in advance, go to eusa.ed.ac.uk/freshers. Your wristband can be sent to you in advance (UK residents only) if ordered before Wednesday 2nd September or collected from the EUSA stall in Pollock Halls on the 12th and the 13th of September, and EUSA’s Baristo Box Office in Potterrow for the entirety of the week. You can also buy your wristband on arrival from the stand at Pollock Halls and the Baristo Box Office at Potterrow.
6
Alongside EUSA’s Freshers’ Week the University itself will be offering you a warm welcome to your academic studies. The University refers to this week as ‘Welcome Week’ and you can look out for the Welcome Week logo on communications from your School/College and on signage around the campus.
During Welcome Week your School will host a variety of events, including compulsory Welcome Talks and Subject Area activities. These events aim to introduce you to the academic staff who will be teaching and supervising you, the administrative staff who support you, and your fellow students. They will discuss important information about beginning your studies here at the University of Edinburgh. Make sure you read the information sent to you by your School for details about your specific School/Programme activities. You can find more information about academic events on the New Student website: ed.ac.uk/new-students.

Two fantastic bands line up Teviot’s live music venue tonight. Describing themselves as a ‘Gig attacked by an axe-wielding maniac’ BWANi have already seen nominations for Scottish Band of the Year, played the Edinburgh Hogmanay stage and recorded a full Radio 1 session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephens. Their infectious afro-beat sound will instantaneously inspire you to get up and dance, they are certainly a band to be reckoned with. Dundee based MODEL AEROPLANES have been in the fast lane to stardom since their very beginnings when they secured a spot on the BBC introducing stage at T in the Park after just seven live shows. Since then they have been touring the UK, supporting the likes of Editors and producing brilliant pop songs with great hooks and a generous splash of good old rock and roll. FREE EVENT

With a blend of traditional musical styles and left-field influences, KING EIDER weave sound and rhythm, melody and harmony to conceive a brilliant new breed of folk. Having released their highly esteemed debut album “The Deeper The Water” in 2014, King Eider announced their presence with a strong series of concerts, festival appearances and BBC radio exposure across the UK, and are now raising the roof in the Teviot Underground. PRONTO MAMA are a six-piece progressive indie pop band from Glasgow and boy, do they know how to throw a party. Having played T in the Park’s T Break Stage, Wickerman and Go North festivals to name a few, Pronto Mama have certainly made an impression on the music scene, landing them a tour support slot with none other than Frightened Rabbit. This slot in Freshers’ Week has brought us many bands that have gone on to do great things, so if you like live music, we strongly suggest you catch these bands while you can. FREE EVENT

NERS 2014 N I W E IZ R P Y R U MERC
In short, YOUNG FATHERS are brilliant. This is possibly your only chance to catch them without forking out £18 for a ticket, so our advice is to TAKE IT.
TUESDAY
One of Edinburgh’s big success stories – YOUNG FATHERS proudly brought home the Mercury Prize in 2014 for their album – Dead, beating considerably more famous bands to the title but absolutely deserved. Their 2015 album ‘White Men Are Black Men Too’ is a brilliant follow up and could easily be defined as lo-fi, R&B, hip hop – but they don’t completely fit into any box with their wide-spanning spread of alternative rap, indie pop, reggaeton, and electronic music.
