FUTURE OF SOUTH LAKE UNION South Lake Union is the most growing neighborhood in downtown Seattle with an annual rate 18% in population. From early 2000s, the increasing employments in biotechnology, information technology and global health developments in SLU, the whole neighborhood has a major shift in its population and job composition. According to the rezoning of SLU, the future planning of the neighborhood encourages a broader range of building type, including high-rise and residential; also has a strong emphasize on the pedestrian experience.

Majority of the neighborhood housings are residential 6-8 storey height apartment buildings with retails and mix-use facilities on the ground floors, providing venues for local community meetings and events. Denny Park Block is the heart of this community and brings the fast growing SLU back into nature. It facilitates general recreations, open pulbic exhibitions, children’s playground and weekend farmer markets. Dexter Ave continues its artistic development with new galleries and workshops open to public.
