BEELDENPARK 2014 LANDGOED DUIN & KRUIDBERG EXPOSEERT LANDGOED DUIN & KRUIDBERG viert dit jaar zijn 105 jarig bestaan en het Beeldenpark viert zijn eerste Lustrum. Een goede reden om een groots, internatonaal beeldenpark met kunstenaars uit vijf landen te organiseren: Guatemala, Engeland, Zwitserland, Duitsland en Nederland.

Kunst is er voor iedereen en verbindt mensen en landen. Het is dan ook met opzet dat President Obama de International Nuclear Security Summit in ons land begon met een bezoek aan het Rijksmuseum. Naast het feit, dat hij de kunst, die hij al lang kende eens in het echt wou zien, wilde hij ook een voorbeeld zijn, speciaal voor de jeugd. Kunst verrijkt het leven. In de openbare ruimte werkt dit in bijzondere mate, aangezien mensen die nooit in een museum komen op deze wijze ook kunst zien en erdoor geraakt kunnen worden.

De kunst die hier tentoongesteld wordt is tevens te koop.

In deze catalogus kunt u prijsindicaties en suggesties vinden voor verschillende uitvoeringen van de getoonde werken. Het is mooi om op een tentoonstelling naar kunst te kijken, maar nog veel meer vreugde geeft kunst in eigen bezit: namelijk dagelijks kijkplezier. Kunst die u koopt omdat u het mooi vind, maakt uw leven mooier. U blijft het mooi vinden en het verveelt nooit.

De organisatie en sponsoring, samenstelling van de tentoonstelling en catalogus zijn door kunsthistorica Eva Mennes van EVA Artproductions Foundation uitgevoerd.

ANNE CURRY ARBS

Anne Curry is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Anne discovered the power of sculpture while working for a doctorate in Egyptology at Oxford University. “I see in the sculpture of Ancient Egypt the perfect combination of material, line, volume and tension.�

Clean lines, pared down details and inner power are the fundamental principles of her work.

She started sculpting in 1989 under the tuition of Rosemary Barnett, until recently Head of the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture. She was quickly recognized as an accomplished portrait sculptor at home and abroad: her high profile commissions have included the bust of several prominent political figures, including a British Prime Minister, for the Palace of Westminster collection.

At the same time, she started working on large outdoor sculpture based on close observation of organic shapes. Having created an exceptional garden out of bare fields, and worked for years among plants, Anne remains fascinated by the development of natural forms and their patterns. The curves, spiral of growth, the unfolding of leaves and flowers, the bursting of seed pods, all imply controlled movement, a disciplined, mathematical progression and immense internal energy.

Working on a large scale presents an array of challenges. Anne uses a technique involving the hot carving of vast blocks of polystyrene. She works in an old military hangar, which provides a practical space to deal with the noxious fumes released and the dust created during the carving process. The sculpture is then molded and cast in resin or bronze.

These large sculptures have been shown in several great gardens in England, in France and now in the Netherlands.

JULIETTE VAN BAVEL

Juliette van Bavel is de afgelopen jaren vertegenwoordigd op vele exposities waaronder Kings Road London, Museo d’ Arte in Chianciano Toscane, Museum Utrecht, Museum Rijswijk en het jaarlijks terugkerend Beeldenpark Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. Zij toont haar grote marmeren figuratieve beelden, abstracte werken in albast en speksteen, abstracte fotografie en schilderkunst. Sinds 2013 is het materiaal aluminium aan haar oeuvre toegevoegd.

Tot en met 1998 was Juliette werkzaam als professioneel danser in verschillende gezelschappen. Na het afsluiten van haar dans-carrière stapt ze in de opvolgende jaren over op haar kunstenaarschap. Haar opleiding is plastische vormgeving aan de Kunstacademie ‘s Hertogenbosch hoofdvak steen. Ze verdiept zich echter niet alleen in het beeldhouwen.

Inmiddels heeft zij haar eerste boek uitgegeven, de zilveren prijs voor fotografie gewonnen in Toscane en zijn haar beeldhouwwerken van de zachtere steensoorten als speksteen en albast verder ontwikkeld naar groot formaat marmer, waarvoor zij een specialisatie volgde in Studio Sem te Pietrasanta, Italië.

In 2013 start Juliette met haar sculpturen in aluminium met een nieuwe techniek waarbij ze haar fotografie kan gebruiken. Zij maakt hiervan krachtige abstracte vormen die geïnspireerd zijn op, en een logisch gevolg zijn van de afbeelding op de foto. Het gebruik van het plaatmateriaal, wat Juliette bewerkt in een professionele ijzerwerkplaats, geeft diepgang aan de afbeeldingen. Omgekeerd versterkt de abstracte fotografie de dynamiek van de vormgeving. Door de hoogglans heeft het werk een intense, emaille-achtige uitstraling. Dit jaar voegt Juliette beweging toe aan haar sculptuur en maakt de eerste kinetische versie van Elegant Aluminium.

JOSE TOLEDO ORDOÑEZ

He was born in Guatemala City in 1951. His passion for motorcars led him to take part in competitions (1969-1976) and to start his career in that area. In 1974 he graduated in automotive technology in the National Schools, Los Angeles, California, USAA, and in 1993 he was awarded a degree in economics from the Mariano Galvez University in Guatemala.

He is a recognized promoter and disseminator of culture; he has promoted and coordinated different types of activities and lectured on art in various educational institutions and cultural centers. He is an unfaltering defender of the environment; has given numerous lectures, written popular books and articles on science, technology, and innovation.

One of his greatest achievements in this field was getting Guatemala to become the first country in the world to eliminate lead from gasoline all at once.

He was a Prensa Libre columnist (1991-1999), Director of the Association of Managers of Guatemala (1991-1993), President of the advisory board of the Guatemalan Association of Natural History (1994-2008) -institution in charge of administrating and reconstructing La Aurora National Zoo-, and vicepresident of the Board of the National Electrification Institute (1996-1999). He was also Superintendent of Telecommunications in Guatemala (1999-2000), President of the Latin American Forum of Telecommunication Regulators (1999), President of the National Energy Commission (2004-2007), Vice-president of the iberoamerican Association of Energy Regulators (2005-2007), Presidential Commissioner for the Penitentiary System Modernization (2007), and President of the Mario Monteforte Toledo Foundation (2000-2008).

Under the Foundation’s seal, he edited 10 books and produced 11 documentaries with the objective of documenting Guatemala’s greatest cultural exponents. His continuous contact with the art world, led him in the year 2010 to bring out the art within him. That’s how his successful career as a sculptor began. He has had 24 individual expositions, and he has 13 public sculptures, three in Mexico, two in Washington D.C. and one in Costa Rica. His flagship exposition, Dangerous Sculptures, carries a calling to a new state of consciousness - Creationism - where he condemns the excesses of contemporary art and proposes art should turn back to aesthetics, combined with truth and moral values. Today, he shares his artistic activities with his business life.

Geboren 1938. Opleiding architect HBO, andere kunsten autodidact.

V贸贸r 2003 ben ik actief geweest als zelfstandig architect. Daarnaast was en ben ik de ontwikkelaar van een digitaal informatiesysteem voor de bouw.

Als beeldhouwer ben ik vrijwel dagelijks in mijn atelier thuis te vinden.

Omdat mijn atelier klein is en voor contact met andere beeldhouwers, reis ik elk jaar naar Itali毛 waar ik werk ik in de studio van Fondazione ARKAD in Seravezza, vlak bij het beeldhouwersparadijs Pietrasanta.

Voor mijn beelden gebruik ik machinaal gereedschap - mijn beitels worden met perslucht aangedreven, maar het afwerken gaat met de hand. Ik werk in steen en hout. In Itali毛 kan ik mooie stukken marmer vinden, albast is ook een steensoort waar ik graag in werk. Het hout waarin ik werk vind ik vaak bij mij in de buurt, op de Veluwe, houtsoorten zoals beuken, berken, acacia en dennen.

Het vertrekpunt voor mijn beelden is meestal het brok steen of hout dat op de bok staat. Ik probeer daarin de vorm te zien die ik er uit wil halen, het daarop volgende hakproces is een dialoog met het materiaal. Alleen bij machinaal gezaagde steen ga ik uit van een idee dat ik in mijn hoofd heb, maar ik werk zonder model vooraf (taille direct). De vorm die ontstaat is soms een mensfiguur, soms abstract en soms iets daar tussen in.

Follow the straight line, thou shalt see, The curved line ever follow thee Art is the guiding force behind Marie Muskens’ life journey and has led the Dutch-born artist to express herself through different creative outlets over the years and her various travels.

She has always been fascinated with drawing and painting, but only unveiled her first three- dimensional work to the public in 2004 , at her Manoir de Cologny exhibit in Geneva: sensual bronze sculptures in different shades and forms.

Ten years later she now invites us to discover an entirely new creative universe: stone.

Soft and translucent white sculptures with smooth curves, to more abstract minimalistic shapes in genuine Carrara marble.

Marie Muskens’ recent artistic evolution echoes with her spiritual progression leading her to explore the simplification of lines and shapes to uncover only that which remains essential.

Those who visited her 2012 exhibition in Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg, can testify of this....

The Artist is never guided by a preconceived idea: on the contrary she waits for the stone to choose her and express, through her hands, its enchanting secrets. She is attentive to the incredible vital energy accumulated within the marble during its 50 million years geological formation. It is this force that guides her in removing what is superfluous in order to capture the purity of the instant emotion that will become eternal.

The artist lives between Geneva and Pietrasanta, a picturesque little Italian village entirely dedicated to Art and ideally located between the sea and the famous Carrara quarries. In this sculptor’s paradise, Marie Muskens finds the tranquil inspiration necessary for her creations to emerge.

Uitgaande van de traditie, ben ik altijd bezig mijn vak opnieuw uit te vinden vanuit mijn “state of mind “ van het moment. Vele thema’s zijn elkaar opgevolgd, zowel keramisch als in brons, steen, en bamboe en cement. Ik voerde ook opdrachten uit , o.a. voor penningen in de medische hoek.

Mijn beelden zijn te vinden oa aan de boulevard van Katwijk, voor het Wilhelmina ziekenhuis in Assen,op het raadhuisplein van Elst(Gld) , in het LUMC in Leiden, in de VU_Amsterdam, collectie AMRO-bank, collectie ING. Oorspronkelijk was het de Egyptische beeldhouwkunst die mij enthousiast maakte, en sporen daarvan vind je terug in de monumentale benadering van mijn koppen, zoals het Leunend Hoofd. Dit beeld drukt het melancholisch verlangen uit, het eeuwige dromen, maar niet afgesloten van de buitenwereld. Door de openheid aan de bovenkant van het beeld ademt het als het ware mee met zijn omgeving.

Een werkperiode in het boerenland van Noord-Holland bracht de architectuur van de koe als onderwerp naar voren. Na vele studies ontstond het beeld Luchtdans, geinspireerd op de vreugdevolle eerste dag van de beesten in de wei na de winterstalling. Op een ander nivo vertelt het beeld iets over het lot dat mens en dier delen, namelijk het “geworpen zijn” door het lot, door krachten die sterker zijn dan wij zelf. Wij zijn niet meer de veroorzakers van ons eigen verhaal, maar wij maken deel uit van de dynamiek van een veel groter krachtenspel.

Een serie beelden in cement is de afgelopen jaren ontstaan: abstracte landschappen, die alleen maar bedoelen een plek te zijn voor de geest om te vertoeven. Deze waren in het afgelopen voorjaar te zien in de Hortus Botanicus van Amsterdam.

In mijn werk komen veel vormen voor die een abstractie van Beweging laten zien. Ik vind het intrigerend om beweging weer te geven in zoiets onbeweeglijks als steen. Beweging kan heel veel zijn: denk maar aan water, tijd, ontwikkeling, groei, op- en neergang. Door middel van de abstracte Vormentaal met veel dynamische aspecten creëer ik vaak tegengestelde bewegingen. Deze tegengestelde bewegingen kunnen niet zonder elkaar en versterken elkaar. Deze eenheid in tegendelen creëren zo een interessant spanningsveld en die dualiteit pas ik ook vaak toe in het materiaal: de huid van het beeld kan glad en/of ruw zijn.

De vele aspecten rond het beeldhouwen, o.a. de hardheid van de verschillende soorten steen en hoe in zo’n stuk oermaterie een driedimensionale vorm te krijgen, intrigeert mij. Hoofdzaak daarbij is mijn fascinatie voor en het denken in Vormen en Volumes. Door het weghalen (hakken) creëer je vormen waardoor de steen een Beeld, een Iets wordt.

Je herschept de steen tot iets nieuws, dat onder je handen vorm krijgt, waardoor de schoonheid en zeggingskracht en andere bijzondere eigenschappen van de steen zichtbaar worden.

Ik werk het liefst in de wat hardere steensoorten zoals: Diabas, Marmer, Iers- en Belgisch-hardsteen, Travertin en Lepidoliet. Soms werk ik ook wel in de wat zachtere steensoorten, waarbij vooral het werken in Albast een bijzonder plekje heeft gekregen.

Roland Schmitz` sculpture finds expression in the interplay of materiality, gesture and title. From references to Brancusi and Moore in bronze and nickel-silver to interventionist tactics that call to mind Duchamp`s ready-mades, Schmitz plays with and pays homage to the Modernist icons. He re-imagines everyday objects and disrupts continuities with his career motifs: humor and absurdity. But his is a particularly thoughtful kind of humor and a particularly calculated kind of absurdity that challenges, delights and disturbs.

Kenmerkend voor mijn werk is dat ik momenteel nog maar gedeeltelijk vanuit het volume naar mijn idee toe werk. Eigenlijk werk ik – wat voor steen zeer ongebruikelijk is - van ‘binnen naar buiten’.

Op uiterst zorgvuldige wijze bouw, construeer en stapel ik (numeriek) talloze voorgevormde elementen tot een gebalanceerd geheel. Het zijn innerlijke bouwwerken/ constructies, als metafoor voor de innerlijke mens.

Al vanaf het meest prille stadium van ons leven zijn we aan het zoeken naar de juiste balans, aan het bouwen, construeren, samenvoegen en stapelen, in letterlijke en overdrachtelijke zin.

Voor mij is dit een onuitputtelijke inspiratiebron en voel mij dan ook een geëngageerde kunstenaar verbonden met de menselijke natuur.
