FOG

The fog comes on little cat feet.

It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on.

by Carl Sandburg

8 Bitmap

Valley fog, which settles into the hollows and basins between hills and mountains, usually during winter. Valley fog develops when mountains prevent the dense air from escaping. The fog is trapped in the bowl of the valley.

Penetrating the Fog

Fog is a natural conditions that can cause visibility to become zero. It can cause accidents on normally safe roads and is such a serious weather condition that schools delay the start of the day until the sun burns it off. So how does fog form? First it is important to understand that fog is basically a cloud on the ground. This means like clouds it is a collection of tiny water droplets formed when evaporated water is cooled. In general we see that fog is formed whenever there is a temperature difference between the ground and the air. When the humidity is high enough and there is enough water vapor or moisture fog is sure to form. However the kind of fog and how long is last and its effects will depends on the different conditions mentioned. One interesting kind of fog actually helps to make snow melt faster.

Fog is a cloud in contact with the ground. Fog differs from other clouds only in that fog touches the surface of the Earth. The same cloud that is not fog on lower ground may be fog where it contacts higher ground such as hilltops or mountain ridges.

17 Pattern

“In nature, everything has a job. The job of the fog is to beautify further the existing beauties.” — Mehmet Murat Ildan

19 Pattern Patterns are simply a repetition of more tan one design element working in concert with each other. A seamless pattern is one whereevery element within a design combines to form a whole. Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, with regular manner. Pattern can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought of as the skeleton that organizes the parts of a composition. Also, Pattern exists in nature as well as in designed objects; it is useful to look at the parallels.

When repeat elements, the intervals between those repetitions can create a sense of rhythm in the viewer and a sense of movement. Musicians create rhythm in the spacing between notes, effectively making these silent gaps play off the notes. Designers insert spacing between elments to make rhythm.

Paper cut art appeared during the Han Dynasty in 4th century AD after the Chinese official, Cai Lun invented paper in 105 AD. The oldest surviving paper cut out is a symmetrical circle from the 6th century Six Dynasties period found in Xinjiang China. Papercutting continued to be practiced during the Song and Tang Dynasties as a popular form of decorative art. By the eighth or ninth century papercutting appeared in West Asia and in Turkey in the 16th century. The knowledge of Paper making did not reach Europe until the 13th century so papercutting could only have arrived after that.
