Good governance, brutal leaders, and changing policies – we have seen it all. The slogan of change does not exist anymore. Instead, we received a promise to make the world great again.

As slogans and flags change from election to election, the human race has been mute spectators (unheard or silenced) of the political circus.

This ends with the invasion of yoga in various fields, including politics. Yoga is breaking corruption chains and will soon reform the status quo. Hard to believe? Well, read on to know how.

POLITICS & POLITICIANS SO FAR According to a report by CNBC, the year 2017 was the biggest year of political risk, since the end of World War II. The road so far has been a mixture of good and bad. We saw good governance, big swindles and even witnessed political heroes falling into the hands of corruption.

Most of us watch the political news with the enthusiasm of a football game and wait for election polls just to feel very remorseful later.

There are various political systems across the globe that include democracy, republic, monarchy, communism, and dictatorship. Though the systems are different, the result has always been the same. When it comes to political leaders, we had visionary leaders, looters and the pretenders.

THE YOGA REVOLUTION & ITS GLOBAL INVASION The waves of a yoga revolution have hit all walks of life. Yoga is globally accepted and more people are embracing the yoga way of life and are enjoying the endless benefits. These include commoners, athletes, actors, singers, soldiers and politicians.

A recent study shows that the United States has 20 million yoga practitioners. When we consider the entire human population of the globe, the number of yogis comes up to 350 million.

The count is increasing and soon the entire humankind will start their day with sun salutation and pranayama.

The fate of a nation relies upon the decisions and actions of these three elements. When yoga revives all these three elements, we will have great political parties, visionary leaders and satisfied voters.

The routine has been that political parties choose a candidate to represent them. The candidate along with the support of a manifesto runs campaigns and seek votes. Finally, it comes to the voter to make the choice for change, which no matter leads to penitence. Let us see what will change with yoga’s invasion.

1. PARTIES WITH PERFECT POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES Over the millennia, political philosophers have come up with various ideologies such as Anarchism, Absolutism, Liberalism, Socialism and Conservatism. With yoga conquering politics, political parties will be sensible enough to choose the perfect ideology that prioritizes sustainable development and human evolution. They will be wise in choosing their candidate and in preparing the manifesto. Political parties would not let their candidate run a One Man Show once elected. Instead, they will make sure that every promise made in the election campaigns and everything listed in the manifesto is accomplished.

A person who is capable of speaking clearly with utmost rationality in his ideas is much more likely to sway his audience than a person who appears to be unconfident and confused with his ideas.

Yoga calms down the mind and allows the person to promulgate his ideas with compelling strength and lucidity. An hour’s practice of yoga prior to a seminar, public addressing, debates or meetings can be of huge benefit and help to persuade the result of political discussions.

Most importantly, yoga will develop the following qualities in a politician: Honesty Compassion Integrity Confidence Flexibility Altruism These qualities will help our leaders make right decisions on behalf of the public and to work relentlessly for uplifting the country and its people.

3. SENSIBLE VOTERS In the current status quo, we all have lost faith in our system of politics and governance. With yoga, we will know what voting rights mean. It means that we have the power to decide the fate of our country. Each one of us holds the key to the future. When tempted by promises and rights, yoga will help us choose wisely. A flag, a face or a manifesto would not be the judging criteria. A futuristic approach will develop to make your vote to that visionary leader who will choose wise decisions on your behalf.

If things go topsy-turvy, yoga will give us the much-needed courage to raise our voice and fight for our rights.

YOGA AS A PROVEN TOOL TO FIGHT CORRUPTION IN POLITICIANS Here are a few incidents of politicians who used Yoga as a tool to enhance their skills and to keep corruption away, in order to serve the country more efficiently.

1. MAHATMA GANDHI Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest preacher of non – violence, is considered as one of the greatest politicians of this century. His political career and the effort he put in is an unblemished icon of what a man with high ideals, a one-pointed brain, and compassion for his fellow man can accomplish. He is a model to all and to politicians specifically.

He represents the altitudes that a person can accomplish with an integrated body, mind, and soul. In addition to being a lawyer by profession and political leader by choice, he was an accomplished a yogi in the full sense of the word. He did not conceal himself from the public, but engrossed himself among people and devoted himself to helping them through karma yoga.

He practised mouna, mantra and fasting. He often underwent tapasya and consumed simple food. He performed kriya yoga, which he learned from the renowned yogi Paramahamsa Yogananda. He stimulated everyone because he did what he preached.

2. THE INDIAN AMBASSADOR TO BRITAIN

The second story is that of an Indian ambassador to Britain, who had been practising yoga for several years now. He was of the view that yoga not only benefited him on the individual level in his personal life but it actually helped his professional career too. Just like other politicians, a majority of his work included meeting fellow representatives and diplomats from different parts of the world that included several overseas countries. The purpose was to sketch some kind of treaty that would do well to both countries.

However, following some of these meetings, there were often clandestine motives, which were not confessed, disclosed, admitted or discussed, implying plain silence over those issues. By performing yoga practices prior to the meetings, he made his intellect clear, which sharpened his faculties of perception and understanding. This would ensure, all the following: A political system that ensures comfortable living, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development.

Political leaders who will destroy any wall that separates us from our neighbours and divides us from within.

A Constitution that has same rules and same rights for every skin colour.

Political parties and senators who do not believe climate change is a hoax and transgender people are aliens.

Satisfied voters who have faith in the system.

A healthy, happy world with love, peace and harmony Sounds like Utopia is possible with yoga. The revolution has started. Earthlings have recognized yoga as something more than a fitness routine. Yoga did not happen by accident. It happened for a reason. All you have to do is to believe in it, accept it as a way of life, and wait until it opens the gates to Utopia.
