HE WEDDING INDUSTRY HAS EVOLVED by leaps and bounds over just a couple of years, with destination weddings being the tone of the day. Bearing the ever-enthusiastic destination wedding industry in mind, the Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority has established the Bahrain Island Wedding website, a complete guide for planners as well as the wedding party. Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority was established in 2015 under the Royal Decree number (76) for the year 2015 issued by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of The Kingdom of Bahrain. Bahrain Island Wedding was formulated just a year later, in 2016, and in just a couple of years has witnessed some of the most flamboyant weddings. In April 2017, Bahrain hosted its first Indian wedding–a three day extravaganza at the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton hotels. The trend has only continued and Bahrain wishes to extend a welcoming hand to the planners and executors. Bahrain–Perfect For An Island Wedding! From its close proximity to India, a direct flight, long season of good weather, very helpful and active Tourism ministry, enthusiasm from all local vendors to collaborate with our Indian teams to making each wedding or special event a huge success, Bahrain has everything that it an ideal destination for Indian weddings and events. Assistance By The Bahrain Tourism Board We received a huge amount of support from the Tourism Board when we did the Mehta– Jatia wedding in April this year. Their open door policy to almost all our requests made working for the first time a really smooth process. From Visa and swift immigration facilitation, to no hassle with incoming jewellery, to inbound customs clearances for all decor and gift material, getting clearances for drone videography and fireworks, to ensuring we got the best deals on local production, the Tourism Ministry made life for a wedding designer producer in a first-time destination seem like a breeze. Bahrain’s Uniqueness The newness of a destination is the biggest lure. Besides the perfect blend of an island and a modern city. European and American influences, outstanding culinary experiences, recognised and professional wedding decorators and florists helped us procure almost everything locally, rather than shipping things from India. Experience Working in the Island Bahrain is a country filled with experienced vendors and suppliers for wedding events. From world renowned florists, to some of the most technically-sound vendors for lights and sound, it is all available locally. The Bahrainis are a very hospitable people. Bahrain is dotted with top of the line hotels, venues and local experiences. The only 100% import for the wedding we produced was talent. A Warm Welcome We were treated not as foreign guests, but welcomed as family. It was a fantastic collaborative effort with the Bahrain Tourism Board in producing one of the world’s most talked about destination Indian weddings.

Bahrain–An Ideal Destination For Indian Weddings Bahrain is an ideal destination with respect to: perfect weather during the wedding season, proximity to India, great infrastructure and hotel availability, warm and friendly people, government support and flexibility, and a robust Indian diaspora. We managed one of the first big Indian weddings in Bahrain and the support we received from the government and hotels was extremely reassuring. Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority ’s Support In Planning Destination Weddings From assistance in opening doors for the civil aviation, customs, immigration, permissions and providing any kind of assistance, which was required, the BTEA is quite proactive with their support for Indian Weddings. Bahrain Over Other Gulf Countries Most of the Gulf countries have been explored multiple times. Ras Al-Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Oman are all fabulous wedding destinations, however Bahrain is the new kid on the block that is relatively unique amongst the Gulf countries, offering better advantages. The Wedding Planning Experience In Bahrain At first it was slightly uphill as there were no weddings conducted in that region of that scale. We had to lay the groundwork, explore, do our R&D and create some processes and partnerships. However, in due course the flexibility shown eased the planning hurdles faced normally in most countries. The Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority made it extremely easy for suppliers even outside the country. BTEA went the extra mile to get permits in place and ensure the working of the entire wedding was smooth. When it is about overcoming minor hiccups, I am sure with the Bahrain government inclined towards promoting this segment there will be continued support and positive experiences. Overall Experience Planning A Wedding In Bahrain The national carrier Gulf Air was very cooperative and flexible on adjusting schedules on this project. From the arrival experience at the airport till departure the country felt like home to the guests and the friendliness and warmth of the Bahraini people was a huge plus point.
