IN FOCUS 70 EMG Executes Mid-day’s The Guide Restaurant Awards 2019 to Crown Mumbai’s Best F&B Stars Mid-day’s ‘The Guide Restaurant Awards 2019’ recently honoured forty-one of the city’s brightest F&B stars at a glitzy ceremony executed by 70 EMG.
O
ne of Mumbai’s leading newspapers–Mid-day hosted its annual restaurant awards gala on April 9th, at St Regis, Mumbai. The event was held in association with Ruparel Realty, Godrej Consumer Products, Jaguar Land Rover, Indiosa and 70 EMG. After producing a definitive list of the city’s 35 top hospitality establishments in 2018, Mid-day returned this year with an award they call fair, representative, and fullon-local. Mid-day’s food writers review restaurants and bars anonymously at their own cost and endorse only those that meet quality and service standards. The Guide Restaurant Awards recognize only those who deserve it. For ‘The Guide Restaurant Awards 2019’, forty-one of the city’s brightest F&B stars were honored at a glitzy ceremony executed by 70 EMG where top chefs turned up to cheer their colleagues, while socialites and Bollywood stars including Malaika Arora, Rajkumar Rao, and Huma Qureshi; and hosts Kunal Vijayakar and Cyrus Broacha made it an evening to remember.
This year’s new categories included Best New Wine Bar, Best New Brewery and Food Chronicler of the Year, while the big awards of the night remained Outstanding Entrepreneur (Amninder Sandhu and Keshav Prakash), Best New Restaurant (Miss T) and Best New Bar (Thirsty City 127). This year, in a special segment titled Bombay Meri Hai, Mid-day saluted the veterans whose vision made this city a food lover’s Mecca. This included Ode to the City, an award that went to Mughal Martini, a biryani-inspired cocktail at Hakkasan. The award aimed to celebrate a dish or drink inspired by the sights and smells of Mumbai. The Bombay Meri Hai segment wrapped up with Midday honoring 10 of the city’s last surviving Irani cafés for enduring culinary contribution by a diaspora community. Actor and fellow Iranian Boman Irani, who gave away the 10 trophies, turned raconteur as he shared his own story of a family that made its way from Iran to Bombay against the odds.

After successfully executing food festivals and concerts over all India, Zomato comes up with it’s in-house IP Zomaland.
omato started its journey as a restaurant discovery platform, bringing an information revolution for hungry consumers. This then shifted to table reservations and food delivery – bringing you even closer to the gastronomic delights of your city. The question was – what next? What would be Zomato’s next step in India’s food revolution? It was time for this decade – long romance with food to now progress to the next level – to make Zomato something that you can touch and feel. In other words, they decided to bring their offerings to the offline world. To do so, they created an entirely new division – Zomato Live – which brought together some of the best minds in the events industry, led by Chaitanya Mathur (Co-Founder, The Grub Fest), who for over a decade has executed some of the country’s biggest food festivals and concerts. Using this in-house expertise, they began to plan India’s most unforgettable food carnival - Zomaland!
It was big, it was groundbreaking, and more than anything else, it was GRAND. Over eight days across three cities (Delhi, Pune, and Bengaluru), Zomaland brought the joy of the city’s food to its denizens. Like on the Zomato app itself, they created cuisine-based food zones for everyone to enjoy their favourites, as well as try something new. This was a physical manifestation of their popular curated collections, which ensured maximum quality and choice with minimum fuss. Over 200 restaurants participated with more than 3000 dishes and drinks on offer. With a combined footfall of over 1 lakh people across all three cities close to 2 lakh meals and beverages were consumed. To make this carnival a visual spectacle, they had photoworthy food-inspired installations across the venue. There were games for all ages to truly bring a carnival-esque feel to the entire event. All-in-all, the Grandest Carnival certainly lived up to its name! In addition to this, their experience partner Ballantine’s India added to the atmosphere of excitement with some incredible tipples and concoctions. Convenience in purchasing consumer’s favoured eatables was made possible by their payments partner PayTM. Zomaland also saw tremendous participation from the restaurant community. It served as a great platform for them to showcase their culinary prowess and reach a larger audience base. The first season may be over, but stay tuned for more exciting events from Zomato, as Zomaland will be back later this year.

Elrow Mumbai Sambowdromo Do Brasil (Samba & Brazilian Jungle theme), one of world’s craziest EDM parties, came to India for the first time, on March 16, 2019, at the BKC, Mumbai. Elrow was brought to India by BookMyShow, presented by ABSOLUT and powered by Heineken. EVENTFAQS shared an exclusive Vlog on their YouTube channel - giving all details about the event.
The iconic party with their Sambowdromo do Brazil theme showcased the exuberance of samba. It took two days for the management to do the setup, which was a challenging task as all the equipment and elements were brought from Barcelona, Spain. To create the electrifying vibes of a carnival, Elrow created the Brazilian rain-forest theme that blended well with the EDM music and fun ambience.
What started in Barcelona as a techno party with the theme of a Brazilian jungle, now has expanded to hosting more than 20 shows every year in different cities and countries.
There was an exciting line-up of international artists who played super-hit EDM tracks and music that kept the crowd on their toes. Some of the people attending the event came dressed according to the Brazilian Jungle theme that added more to the vibes of the event!
Elrow is hosted in more than 50 cities including London, Shanghai, Miami, Beirut, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Brazil. And this year debuted in Mumbai, India. In Mumbai, Elrow had an amazing jungle theme photo booth by BookMyShow at the entrance and a separate photo booth by Heineken along with a play area, food counters, and a smoking zone.

Creative Technology (CT) Delivers Excellent Video Projections for Special Olympics World Games 2019! Creative Technology delivered video aspects at the Special Olympics World Games 2019 which was held in the Middle East and North Africa region for the first time. Abu Dhabi welcomed over 7,500 athletes from 190 nations when it hosted the Special Olympics World Games 2019. This was the first time the event had been held in the Middle East and North Africa region, and the UAE made sure it was one to remember.
the stage at the start of the show and tracked back over the main LED screen, relaying show content throughout to enhance the floor projections. At the climax of the ceremony, the two torch bearing athletes traveled on board the disc as it flew back to its center stage position.
The Opening Ceremony took place at Zayed Sports Stadium in Abu Dhabi on March 14, 2019. Thousands of people from fans, families, heads of the state and the Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan filled the stadium to watch this historic event unfold. Celebrities from around the world came to give the audience and athletes a show they would never forget with performances from the Global Unified Choir, DJ Paul Oakenfold, Avril Lavigne, and Luis Fonsi to name a few.
Tom Stocks, CT’s Senior Video Engineer, goes on to say “For the LED we utilised our new HDMI 2.0 & 12G SDI kit to maintain a fully redundant 4k @60 4:4:4 uncompressed workflow from the media server to screen. In the field, we had a remote Screen Management system comprised of linked Barco E2 and S3s managing all LED scaling and mapping.”
Creative Technology-Emirates LLC (CT) worked alongside the client to deliver all live video aspects of both the opening and closing ceremony for this prestigious and heart-warming event. CT supplied a 600sqm upstage screen, a total of 270sqm relay screens, 580sqm LED Floor, 90sqm tracking screen, and 2500sqm of mapped floor projection using RZ31k Panasonic Laser projectors. The impressively large 600sqm LED screen was placed directly opposite the VIP box where the crown prince and heads of the state sat, and the relay screens were strategically positioned around the arena to ensure all attendees didn’t miss a thing. The floor LED was integrated into the main stage construction, creating a 6m wide “doughnut” display area some 32m in diameter, which was then covered with a white projection material diffuser. Dan Hughes, CT’s Senior Project Manager, explains, “There was a central circular stage, and outer ring stage which we projected onto and an inner ring of 8mm LED joined the two surfaces. We used a white diffusion on the LED to open up the viewing angle of the screen fully. The white diffusion also served to turn the LED screen into a matching white surface, so it appeared as one full area instead of a black/negative ring in-between two white stages.” A key feature of the Opening Ceremony production was a 10m diameter flying disc, weighing nearly five tons, the disc incorporated lighting, pyro and, impressively, a 9m diameter LED screen. The disc rose up to 30m from 24

All Projection, LED control and Image Processing was integrated on a centralised fully redundant network ring controlled from FOH and utilised CT’s new 1G and 10G fiber networking solutions. Stocks states, “Our 288 x 288 Crosspoint matrix took on all the main feeds and distributed them across the site, and our new Lightware 2.0 matrix managed backup feeds. 11th Edition Over 1790 delegates were in attendance at Pullman Hotel, Aerocity, for the largest ever WOW Awards till date.

he region’s largest business and recognition platform for the Experiential Marketing, MICE, LIVE Entertainment and Wedding Industry had its most successful 11th edition this year on June 27th, 28th & 29th 2019 at Aerocity, New Delhi. Over 1790 delegates were in attendance at the largest ever WOW Awards till date. Entrants were awarded for their entries in four Groups namely Experiential Marketing, Experiential Celebrations, Experiential Management, and Experiential Venues. Here are some highlights from the conventions that took place at the 2-day event:
MPOWER WOW-#StampOutStigma around Mental Health MPower WOW, an initiative to eliminate the stigma around mental illness in the event and entertainment industry, provide education and support to a community of event professionals working under extremely stressful conditions was associated with WOW Awards and Convention Asia 2019. MPower, Wizcraft, EEMA, and WOW Awards Asia proactively championed mental health causes, created awareness, and advocated prevention through an address by Neerja Birla, Founder and Chairperson, MPower, followed by a signing of a pledge to #stampoutstigma. Group C – The Best in Experiential Management The Experiential Management Group at WOW Awards Asia 2019 comprised of 14 categories and aimed at celebrating the best work done by event partners in key aspects of Experiential business such as lighting, audio solutions, backstage management, etc. The awards were given in a ceremony, hosted at Hotel Pullman, New Delhi Aerocity on June 28th, 2019. A total of 79 metals were given away in this group after an intensive 2-round jury process verified by KPMG wherein BToS Productions emerged as the biggest winner of the

he Experiential Planner Expo 2019 concluded on a high note, with the participation of over 600 top decision-makers from the corporate, associations, wedding, and travel industry under one platform from across key source markets in India. Held on June 27th and 28th, EPEX had a very successful run with a wide variety of attendees, including 320 Hosted Buyers, plus additional registered buyers, who met with the 78 exhibitors who partnered the show in this edition. EPEX 2019 also witnessed a Hong Kong Cocktail Reception on 27th June followed by EPEX game night Powered by Dubai Business Events, in addition to the pre-scheduled meetings between partners and buyers over the 2 days. The next panel discussion was on Youth- what do they like, listen, eat, drink, and watch? The panelist shared their views on young consumers, their needs and how to create innovative IPs for them. They talked on how today youth want events that are highly experiential in nature as opposed to the yesteryears where consumers only paid for the product. Learning through experience and being a part of something on-ground or on the internet is a key factor for them. Speaking about the four key things the youth spend their money on Anto Philip, Co-Founder of Under 25 said, “They spend on Food, Accommodation, Entertainment, and Experiences in which travel is at the core”. The youth know what they want and where they want to spend their money.
The fourth-panel discussion was on “Sponsorship- Every promoter’s nightmare”. Hitesh Ahuja, Founder, and CEO, Yum Lane said, “We are looking at interesting stories for our consumers from creative sides. The most important thing is to tell stories in a unique way. From a brand point of view, the important part is to attract consumers.” The panelists said that to change the whole idea of sponsorship being every promoter’s nightmare to a daydream, “there was a need, to be honest in the pitch, think together, try to address by brand language and cocurate”. The panelists for the fifth discussion exchanged views on “Luxury and Fashion IPs.” The panelist discussed in detail on how they should strengthen their identity by generating new leads and increasing the existing network. They also laid emphasis on how we must move on from conceiving an event as simply a communication tool, but rather see it as an experience. The sixth-panel discussion was on “Too many music festivals?” The panelists spoke on how music festivals have attracted a loyal audience, who act as brand ambassadors for the events and attract more music lovers to festivals
The final panel discussion was on “Cultural Amalgamation”. The panelist discussed how major events like Kumbh Mela or Pushkar Mela attract more than a million people from across the globe and gives multiple opportunities to create diverse experiences for people. The India Event IP Conclave also witnessed sessions from Harindra Singh, Chairman & MD Percept Ltd who shared his experience on what he learned from Sunburn. Vivek Singh, MD of Procam International shared the journey of Mumbai Marathon and how it has impacted the society at large. For the second year, Deepak Choudhary, Founder & Director of Event Capital, launched the annual Event IP Calendar at the conclave. The calendar includes over 75 national and global forthcoming events that will be held in 2019-2020. The India Event IP Conclave ended on a high note with a performance by Sunil Grover, Indian actor and stand-up comedian as he took the audience on a hilarious ride. Sculpt Space Designing Solutions Partners with WOW Awards Asia 2019 Space Designing is increasingly becoming a crucial element of an event’s design journey and experience. Taking a space and transforming it into something inspiring – a place people would want to be a part of and experience, whether it is a learning event or networking or just to have fun! This is exactly what Sculpt set out to do this year at the 11th edition of WOW Awards Asia 2019. As Space Design Partners, Sculpt was responsible in not only providing furniture but also designing and curating how the furniture would pan out across the various spaces. A good space planning maintains the delicate equilibrium between positive (furnished) and negative (empty) space, and guides visitors seamlessly throughout the venue. Our objective was to showcase how the spaces can be curated in innovative ways. For EPEX at Andaz Hotel Ballroom, they provided comfortable seating for each stall so that exhibitiors could engage with guests for their meetings all day long. Sculpt decided to use sleek furniture such as pine wood tables that were paired with white chairs with wooden legs. While functionality was the key focus, the curation ensured aesthetics were not compromised, and the place did not look too crowded. For WOW at Pullman, Sculpt used a mix of PP Chairs, Lounge Chairs, and Barstools that were stackable and easy to move around between the Meeting Room Areas and Event Show Asia Pods. This allowed flexibility to increase/ decrease seating in different rooms, swiftly. For the ESA Pods, Sculpt opted for colourful seating and a multi-design approach across the pods. This provided individuality to each booth. The WOW Café was envisioned to showcase harmony in disruptivness. From ottomans to sunbeds, to benches to tier seating, Sculpt provided an eclectic mix of earthy sustainable products, threw in some modern Sixinch Foam Coated products and lounge chairs. The burst of colours and assorted seating provided a laidback environment and chill

epe Jeans has redefined denim fashion and casual wear in the country and it has evolved as a trendsetting brand over the years from clothes to accessories, footwear, and eyewear. The company is now set to take the brand to newer heights with the launch of a premium line of innerwear – a promising new segment in the retail industry into an equal joint venture with Dollar Industries on January 12th at JW Marriott, Bangalore. With the mandate to launch this brand for key stakeholders and retail distributors, Toast Events and Pepe creatively developed the concept of ‘Pepe Outside; Pepe Inside’. This concept was to denote that when you look at Pepe, there is more than what meets the eye – there is Pepe denim on the outside, and innerwear inside. Therefore it was possible to establish the brand’s versatility in terms of their products.

Keeping that in mind, Toast Events worked on a ballroom space and chose to treat it differently to keep alive the young personality of the brand. The space was divided like an art exhibition, where people could move around and experience the product. The culmination of this event led to fashion showcase with models walking through different spaces. The guests were made to seat in segregated spaces to experience the collection up and close. Highlighting the colours and theme of the collection, Toast Events also created ambient décor that would align with the brand’s aesthetics.

The three-day Conference was attended by 500 core members of the Eureka Forbes Sales team. The Eureka Forbes SMART Conference is an annual event held every April. Teams belonging to various verticals from across the country converge to network, brainstorm, rejuvenate, reward, and recognize achievements of the past year, set goals and strategize for the next financial year. This was the third consecutive time that Percept ICE won the mandate to manage the SMART Conference for Eureka Forbes inclusive of planning, conceptualizing, and

executing the entire three-day event. The aim of the three-day conclave was to energize, enthuse, and motivate the Eureka Forbes employees, also known as ‘Eurochamps’. Protec Delivers Fourth Consecutive Opening Ceremony for the Silver Jubilee of IDEX

IDEX celebrates its silver jubilee year in Abu Dhabi with a smashing opening ceremony delivered by Protec.
he IDEX opening ceremony was a very unique theatrical show. From the military jets overhead and sinister drone swarms creating unpredictable skirmishes to the fast-moving armoured vehicle pursuits occurring amidst intense firefights on the ground – there was adrenalin pumping action to be experienced every second for the 25,000 visitors who came to watch the LIVE action show over the five days it ran. Packed with moviegrade special effects, pyrotechnics, and working waterfalls, the blockbuster style performance took place in a 60m x 350m custom stage set built over a car park overlooked by a grandstand in Abu Dhabi. Protec delivered everything from the initial creative concept and narrative to the original set design, graphics, build, complete show delivery and coordination completely transporting the audience to an active ‘war zone’ where the story takes place.

Engaged for the fourth consecutive time to create and produce this grand opening ceremony for IDEX, Protec pulled out all the stops to ensure that the 14th edition of IDEX was one to remember for all the right reasons. With IDEX celebrating its Silver Jubilee year, the stakes were expectedly high and the pressure to deliver this ‘mother of all shows’ proved to be the catalyst for Protec to step up and deliver beyond all expectation again. Where else would you see a live piece of drama that involved perfectly synchronized fighter jets and military aircraft all tying in with explosions and firefights on land and sea? This kind of big-budget show was like watching the climax of a movie live in front of your eyes and has no room for error. Working closely with senior representatives of the Armed Forces, Protec introduced modern and advanced military
techniques augmented by VR, AI, robotics and SATCOMS. It also incorporated underground battles and other asymmetric warfare trends with futuristic counter defence systems in a live demonstration like no other in the world. It was a technology demonstration worth the dedicated staging set that Protec built up for the show, which left audiences and special guests struck in awe on all five days this show was run.

This year’s live military demonstration was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, senior government representatives from the UAE along with visiting heads of state and foreign dignitaries including the Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Also in attendance were Crown Princes of all the Emirates, defence ministers and senior military officers from over 100 nations, head of delegates (heads of state) and other senior officials. This influential audience were treated to a breath-taking, all-action display that highlighted the capabilities of many divisions of the UAE Armed Forces. Eddie Andradé, the show’s creative director explains, “This year, our main challenge was to introduce futuristic elements in a realistic way without going overboard. This meant I had to do some serious research before breaking away into the creative angle of the show. introduced reconnaissance and attack drone swarms and boat swarms, underground warfare, modern robotics, futuristic counter defence systems as well as virtual reality into this ‘modern battlefield’ setting. Putting it all together is always quite complex though. This show involves jets and helicopter flypasts that have to be timed to the precise second to match up with the action sequences on the staging area performed by armoured vehicles, infantry, special effects that include large pyro explosions on land and on the mountains, water explosions, vehicle explosions, etc.” He continues, “This involves intense coordination between the show caller, action director and stunt choreographer, special effects crew, stage managers, video, audio, cameras, the Navy, the Land Forces, the pilots, the Airport, the air bases, air traffic control, road traffic control, the police, and civil defence.” Protec’s founder and CEO – Stephen Lakin, who was in charge of building the entire scenic set along with Project Manager Pieter Smuts said, “Under the temporary venue that Protec built, were the exhibition centre’s utilities and drainage systems which had to be protected by the weight of the military vehicles, some which weighed in excess of 60 tons. Therefore it had to be built up to 1m above the existing surface, graded up with sand and road base”, said Lakin. Protec also built a temporary 60m long x 30m wide x 1m high ‘water inlet’ which held 2million liters of water on which jet boats were run to get involved in the action. Lakin adds, “We added 2 large working waterfalls that we built into the set along with artificial greenery to complete

the scenic visual of the mine quarry and the jungle. We also used military tracked vehicles and trucks that we own, for the show. I bought these vehicles to be used in theatre shows like this one and also for use in the film industry, so this show was the perfect opportunity to use them with great effect.” Two 16m x 9m LED screens were built into the upstage structures with access to work behind them and a 30m x 10m LED screen was built between the two upstage structures. These screens showed a combination of live camera and pre-filled filmed edits and animations to support the show. Head of Video at Protec, Scott Walker, explained how a live show like this was delivered, “Video content was run from Protec’s disguise (D3) media servers and through our Barco E2 to switch between graphics and live inputs from our cameras. Signal was run with full redundancy of Neutrik 12 core fibers through our Lightware MX frame 32 x 32 matrix.” He added, “The biggest challenge for the video team on this show was the syncing of pre-filmed content with the live action of the show as everything had to be timed to perfection with the various aircraft fly-bys and military ground vehicle action.” The SFX team designed and produced all the pyro ‘explosion’ effects, as well as one of the highlights of the show where a car was ‘blown up and flipped’ dramatically right in front of the awe, struck audience.

The audio package provided by Protec included 40 x L-Acoustics K2 in blocks of 4 ground stacked with L-Acoustics SB28 subs positioned between each set of two K2 stacks. Protec’s Head of Audio, Ed Ross explained, “We ran a dual redundant fiber network using Digico racks running digital outs and Optocore SANE units running analogue outputs to the LA8 amplifiers, this complemented our use of the SD10 mixing desk with SDRE redundant engine which meant we could lose kit or connections anywhere in the network and not lose audio or control at all.” Ross continued, “For communications, we used a Clearcom matrix and a selection of control panels, helix net belt backs, and Motorola digital radios, these were integrated with Riedel RiFace units for seamless communication across platforms.” When asked about the process of creating a show like this, Andradé said, “I’ve always enjoyed creating live shows. The challenges, the pressure, and the unknown quite simply get negated because I love this job and how I somehow manage to get totally immersed in the process. This particular show is unlike any other I’ve worked on and it does entail a lot of research to be able to concoct a theatrical production that is entertaining yet realistic. It’s not as simple as using your imagination to deliver a war movie styled show. It has to be realistic because the bottom line is that this is a live military demonstration that has to use correct military methods and procedures and it also has to be practical from an event production standpoint. It was interesting this year though from a creative standpoint to incorporate some

futuristic technology into the show including AI, VR, robotics, etc. It was also great to work the pre-filmed video edits and animations into the show content. Prefilming in itself, as always with IDEX is interesting but fun because we use our own crew and cast of real military personnel as actors. We have to remember that this show is performed entirely by the UAE military personnel no professional actors or stuntmen or stunt drivers. We find locations; script the films, direct, shoot, edit, etc., all on site. It is guerrilla filming and editing which is always challenging but the results were fantastic in the end. What really makes it all a lot easier is the support from an extremely skilled team that share the same passion, have the experience and dedication that’s needed and working for Protec for the last 8 years I’ve learned that nothing is impossible at this company that has a never ending supply of resources that makes this process not just easy but enjoyable.” The complete production for the IDEX 2019 Opening Ceremony was, according to the client and event organisers (IDEX LLC, GHQ, and ADNEC), the best they had seen and experienced in the exhibition’s history which didn’t just meet the brief but went well beyond expectations.

he latest edition of JSW Cement’s Annual Sales Conference was held in Vijayanagar, Bellary from May 14th to May 16th, 2019. The MICE extravaganza which saw an interesting amalgamation of tech innovations and thematic entertainment was executed by Dome Entertainment, Corporate Division. The theme of the event, ‘ROAR - Rise Outerform Accelerate Rule’, was conceived, conceptualized and developed by Dome Entertainment. With JSW’s Cement division having aggressive plans for their future growth, the theme of ROAR’ was selected. The objective was to get the Sales team inspired and invigorated. The invite, which was designed and executed in such a way that every sales team gets motivated. The stage and venue construction, the theme song for the conference, the visual content that was created as part of the business presentations - all complimented the theme, giving the conference a complete warrior look and feel.

The spectacular set-up, the highly entertaining performers and charming hosts made for a wonderful evening. The huge gathering of 350 at the event included JSW Cement’s brand employees from various regions. The three - day conference was aimed at strengthening the bonds between the company and their employees and celebrating their accomplishments by making them realize like they are the owners of the company. Apart from the business agenda, the conference also included some fun elements around the theme and a talent show night – called the ‘JSW Got Talent’ followed by a gala evening. Creative Technology Manages Live Video for the Jeddah World Festival Closing Ceremony 2019
T
he Jeddah World Festival Closing Ceremony which took place on July 18th was the first of its kind and saw acts such as Janet Jackson, Liam Payne, Future, Tyga, 50 Cent, Chris Brown and Steve Aoki perform. The closing ceremony marked the end of the 41-day festival, which comprised of a series of events to include performances from national and international artists. The Closing Ceremony took place in the vicinity of King Abdullah Sports Stadium, which gave festival-goers a view of the iconic stadium as a backdrop to the main stage. The event was not only the largest music festival to have been held in Saudi Arabia, but it also marked a milestone

in KSA’s 2030 vision to expand the entertainment sector in the country. Creative Technology (CT) worked alongside their client The Manual, Technical Director, John Adkins (World Class Events) and Production Designer, Mark Cunniffe to deliver all live video aspects of the sold-out event. CT supplied fifteen custom mounted 4.8mm outdoor LED screens in the shape of diamonds at 4x4m each, two 4.8mm rolling DJ risers and 150 running meters of ROE LED strip which outlined the stage and catwalk. The unique design was achieved through rotating the screens 45 degrees across the 90-meter structure.

Giorgio Devecchi, CT’s Project Manager, explains “Mark Cunniffe’s creative design was so unique that it required an engineering safety approval before we could hang the LED panels 45 degrees along the scaffolding structure. Prior to delivering the project, we carried out pre-production testing of the large diamonds at CT headquarters in Dubai. During this pre-production phase, we compiled a full pixel study to ensure the content and live feed was displayed at the correct angle. Once on-site, the install seamlessly went together with no issues thanks to the dedication of the CT team of 12 professionals who worked together to achieve our clients creative brief.” CT provided a full video control package, driven by disguise GX2 servers incorporating Notch for live camera processing and visual effects. Tom Stocks, CT’s Senior Video Engineer states, “The screen control and switching was managed from a linked Barco E2 and S3 system with an additional two Image Pro 4K’s at

We also supplied our PPU for a sub mix of the broadcast cameras for IMAG to correspond to the diamond pixel area of the LED screens.” Stocks goes on to say, “A full 4k@50, pixel for pixel workflow was maintained with our Gen2 Barco system, Lightware 2.0 Matrix and Novastar 4K processors as well as 4K fibre distribution.” Devecchi continues, “The event was a huge success from start to end. Everyone came together to work as a team and our client, The Manual, did a fantastic job of bringing the full production to life. This is a new chapter for the local entertainment scene in Saudi Arabia, and it was a pleasure to be part of this fantastic event.
