Greetings to our Members and Patrons, WOW! is the first thing I can say about our Grand Opening of our Nine Mile Road location. What a wonderful event. The store is just beautiful. We are so happy to be welcomed to the uptown area. Many thanks to those who braved the cold and rain to join us as we celebrated the opening. We estimated at least 200 people watched as we cut the ribbon along with the help of the local Chambers of Commerce. As you may know, we are members of all four local Chambers. We truly appreciate all they do for local small businesses such as Ever’man. Mayor Robinson was also on hand to help us celebrate and we appreciate his kind words. We are truly humbled by the outpouring of love we felt that morning and since we opened. We are proud to be able to serve this community. I would like to pass on my thanks to a lot of people who helped us make this project a success. In no special order, these businesses were great partners in building and opening this store. Right in the middle of the holidays is a hard time to open a store. Our team juggled work and life as we moved in and opened. Our reasoning for the push was simple. We wanted to be here to help support people as they start their new year. Every January, our members and friends know, we celebrate “New Year, New You.” We are here to help whether it’s more fresh fruits and vegetables, clean and minimally processed products, supplements or even a cleanse. Our employees are knowledgeable and ready to help. Give us a call or stop in, see why our customers and members trust Ever’man. In closing, I hope that you are as excited and proud of our Nine Mile store as I am. If you haven’t stopped in, we would love to see you very soon. Don’t forget to also support the Garden Street store when you are downtown. After all, we are “One Co-op 2 Stores.” Look forward to seeing you at one of the stores soon. Happy New Year,

Board News

BOD President Dave DeBlander Happy New Year to our members and neighbors, Aren’t you glad for the word, “new?” We get to start over, and we get a second, third or fourth chance! Change can happen and a new year is an exciting time to put good ideas into practice. January is the busiest month of the year at Ever’man. Why? New Year’s resolutions, of course! How many of us have a better health regiment as part of our New Year’s resolution? These often include worthy goals that should not end January 31. How can we keep them going all year around? Here are a few ideas (many involving your favorite grocery store, BTW!) Healthy eating. Yay! Now there are two Ever’man locations, so shopping just got

easier. Our new Nine Mile Road store is beautiful, fun and filled with the food that you can trust. We have so much to offer, including a sushi bar, coffee bar, pizza bar, gelato bar, taco bar, all-day deli, along with vitamins, grocery items, organic meats and seafood, a tremendous produce selection, an outdoor fire pit and even a walking trail. Our downtown store continues to thrive and is busy servicing the community with its broad selection of organic, natural foods, vitamins and supplements and other sundry items. You can take some cooking classes at our Educational Center, pick up great recipes at both locations, and decide that 2020 is your year for healthy eating. Regular exercise. Exercise is for your body and your brain. Join the YMCA or a gym, go on regular walks or runs and sweat. Your cells need three things: nutrition, oxygen and the removal of toxins. Exercise is essential in the obtaining of oxygen and the removal of toxins. Get moving and feel the difference.

Less worry and stress. More gratitude and thankfulness. I put these two concepts together for rather obvious reasons. We love to occupy our minds with worry instead of thankfulness. Why is that? We are the richest country in the history of the world and one of the most stressed. All these ideas seem to flow together into a life of either joy or pain. We try for a few days in January, but so often return to our old ways. Wouldn’t it be great if this year if everyone was just as committed to their health and wellbeing in February as they are in January? Lofty idea, but the world is far better off when we think optimistically. Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing the new you at Ever’man and the gym (and the library!) Sincerely, Dave DeBlander Board of Directors, President

Less screen time. 4 hours a day! That is about the average for us Americans and it is beginning to show. We are a lonely country and getting lonelier. Isn’t it fascinating that a device invented to help us communicate is destroying communication? More conversation and communication will be the result of less screen time. Let’s talk!

MEET THE CANDIDATES

We have 3 seats open in this year’s Board of Directors election. Members exercise democratic control over the future of the co-op by voting their fellow members into seats on the Board. You can vote on-line or in person at each of our co-op locations between February 1 and February 13. To read full candidate bios and intent statements, plus to get more information on voting, please visit everman.org/board-of-directors.

The Magic of a Dry Spell By: Stephanie Sharp

Sprung from the grassroots movements of Dry January and the self-help wellness space, conversations concerning alcohol have been bubbling up everywhere lately. Taking a stretch of booze-free time has increasingly become a wellness experiment that more and more people are exploring for a variety of reasons. Benefits for physical, emotional, spiritual and even financial health have been cited as motivating factors behind break from alcohol.

If you’re curious about trying sober on for size, we’ve gathered some easy swaps that can be applied no matter the length or focus of your dry spell. While the zero-proof trend forges ahead, it’s important to remember that recovery from substance abuse is a serious and often private matter for many people. Educate yourself about recovery and remember to respect the privacy and preferences of others when it comes to conversations about alcohol. If you are worried about your relationship with alcohol, speak directly to a professional health care provider and seek support.

SOBER SWAPS

Often our “drink of choice” is more of a drink of habit than anything else. If you’ve got some alluring alternatives lined up, it’s easier to avoid alcohol.

WHEN YOU…

WANT A COLD DRINK: Let it sparkle. CRAVE A COCKTAIL: Mix a mocktail. CAN’T KEEP CALM: Try a supportive supplement. NEED A BREAK: Get lost in meditation. COULD USE A NIGHTCAP: Brew a new tea. WOULD GRAB A DRINK: Take a stroll instead. START TO STRESS: Make movement a priority. WANT TO BLEND IN: Order a go-to faux. HAVE A RITUAL: Explore a new indulgence.

A conversation with Darcie Miller, owner and founder of NaturBaker. Can you tell us about the origin of NaturBaker?

NaturBaker started as a blend of survival and love. I was a young mother of two little baby boys, and was also a full time teacher. I found my situation to be high stress when I would get home after a 10 hour work day. I struggled to feed our entire family, as we all had different food situations. I personally struggled with a wheat allergy and lactose intolerance. My eldest son (age 3 at the time) had a milk allergy, and my youngest had 6 of the 8 top food allergens; two of them (eggs and tree nuts) being HIGHLY severe. Simultaneously, my husband, an endurance athlete, became plant-based. It was a challenge to say the least. I started blogging and sharing my recipes with my community. I felt the need to feed by example. Living in a little town in North Alabama, there were limited food resources that I truly felt I could trust to feed to my family. I decided to take the matter into my own hands.

6 | THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

What motivates you to grow the NaturBaker business?

My children motivate me to grow the business. I want to not only leave them a legacy that they can feel proud of, but I also want to serve as a pioneer in the baked goods AND health foods industry. Healthy food CAN taste good.

What does a “typical” day in the life of NaturBaker look like? Do you have any habits, routines or rituals that you feel contribute significantly to your success and growth?

I have a very specific routine that I have slowly adopted through the past few years of NaturBaker’s journey. I wake up at 4am, light a candle and then journal my specific 5 year goals, overall life dreams, and daily feelings of gratitude. Then, I spend at least 20 minutes in our infrared sauna. After a cold shower, I complete 2 minutes of an ice bath. After that I stretch and breath. By then, the boys are waking and it’s

going to be a great day! I feel that starting off the day this way makes a HUGE difference in my mindset and helps me win the day. No matter what long hours or hard work in a kitchen lies ahead, I know I can handle it and that there is purpose in my day.

How would you encourage someone who has recently learned that they need to change their diet to account for a health challenge or food allergies? Or a caregiver of a child with a health challenge or food allergies?

I would encourage them to not think in definites. It will get easier, things will change. There will be more options. However, this will only happen if they allow their mindset to change. Redefining their expectations of what food is and what nourishes their body is the first step in conquering any food obstacle. That may mean having to recreate a few wheels or conduct some research from experts, but it is possible with openness and focus.

What is your favorite thing about running NaturBaker?

Truly my favorite thing is nourishing an individual. Seeing them light up when they find out they can FINALLY eat something and that it actually tastes good. Feeding people, especially children, and seeing joy. Everyone deserves to enjoy food and feel good after. It makes me very proud and honored to be able to offer that to individuals who may be up against some serious food challenges.

Can you share any tips or wisdom for others who are interested in turning their passion into a business?

Oh yes! So many tips, but here are a few. Get ready to fail. Again and again. Make a million mistakes, and learn from them. That is a crucial part of the process. Don’t expect success to happen overnight. Hard work and discipline is the ONLY way to become successful. So wake up every morning, set your goals, do your best, and then get ready to wake up the next morning and do it again. These realistic expectations will give you the strength to make it through the first couple of tough years. Also, have a mentor. Or two. They are your life line. They will save you from making so many mistakes that could cost you money and TIME. Swallow your pride and ask for help. True entrepreneurs will want to help you in any way possible.

Can you share a favorite customer story or testimonial?

I recently served a gentlemen with a kind and loving wife and two daughters. He had undergone his 54th round of chemo and was aggressively fighting cancer. He hadn’t eaten anything for days, but the only thing he requested were our Chocolate donuts that he had enjoyed during his last visit in Santa Rosa Beach. His wife quickly ordered them on-line. He loved them so much and it brought him happiness. After I shipped them and around two weeks later, he asked for some final donuts before the end to his journey. This moment of providing this family with something that comforted their loved one will forever have a place in my heart. Learn more at: naturbaker.com THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE | 7

PLAN 2 SAVE IN 2020 By: Jordan Zeman

Being intentional with your spending could provide the flexibility and peace of mind you need to accomplish your other 2020 goals!

8 | THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

With each New Year we have a special opportunity to re-dedicate ourselves to what is important and take action in areas of our lives that may need more attention. We can make it a resolution to do better at a multitude of things but where does saving money fall on that list?

upcoming week. When taking inventory, make sure to check all the places you store food—fridge, freezer, and pantry! Adjust your meal plan to use older ingredients first.

Stock up on staples when they are on sale. Think about the meals you turn to in a

Staying on budget may sound boring and restrictive, but actually allows for more freedom & less stress in all areas of life! Being intentional with your spending could provide the flexibility and peace of mind you need to accomplish your other 2020 goals! Below are five strategies for saving money while bringing home quality and nutritious groceries each week at Ever’man.

pinch that were mentioned above. Get the necessary nonperishables at a low price by developing a keen eye for the blue member tags and co-op deals sprinkled around the store. Scoop them up at a discounted price now for future weeks. Don’t forget to browse the current coupon book and sale ad as well! When you see your favorites, don’t hesitate to stock up ! These are items you know will get used and you will appreciate having on hand when a meal needs to made on a moment’s notice!

Survey the fridge, freezer, and pantry then make a list of items you need before leaving the house.

Explore the bulk bins. Following this tip

Decide what type of list works best for you and start one today! Do you share shopping duties with another person? A digital list that can be easily shared and seen by both parties would be most practical. Otherwise, a good old fashioned paper list does the job well.

Be flexible and allow for creativity when following a recipe. Does your recipe

This tip seems like a no brainer and exactly what you’d expect to find at the top of this list, but it can easily be overlooked or not given enough attention, so we’re going to go in depth. A list keeps you from over spending on things you do not need and will not be able to use. This simple tool also saves you time in the store and at home when you are unloading and finding a place for excess items. Your time is valuable too!

First, check your calendar for the upcoming week. Are there days or evenings you already have plans to eat out? Are there nights when extra eaters will be joining you at your home? This gives you a better idea of how many meals to plan so you don’t buy more than you will use.

Based on your schedule, decide how many new recipes would be realistic to try for the week. For the others, stick to meals that you know satisfy the whole household and can be prepared quickly without much thought. Be sure to have the ingredients on hand for those ‘go to’ meals and prep them ahead of time if you can! Pro tip: when you find yourself in the kitchen with a spare minute, go ahead and wash and chop vegetables that go with the meals you’ve planned. Store them in the fridge so they can be used easily when it’s time! Next, survey the food you already have in your kitchen, recall what you ran out of during the previous week, and include ingredients for the meals you’ve chosen for the

is especially cost efficient for items you need only a small amount of or even for trying something new! Pay only for what you want instead of buying pre-portioned items from the shelves and leave the extra packaging behind too! We are lucky here at Ever’man to have a wide variety of dry goods in our bulk bins. Coffee, oats, nuts, seeds, chocolate, flour, and more… you can find it all in aisle 4. If you haven’t strolled this aisle and made a purchase before—it is my challenge to you this week!

call for spinach but kale is discounted in the store this week? Don’t be afraid to make the swap! It’s likely that no one will notice and you can be proud of a thrifty win! Your grocery list is an excellent guide but being open to unexpected sale prices can allow for additional savings.

Stick to the perimeter of the store.

Your dollar goes further here because these departments require less preparation, processing, and packaging. In this area you’ll find fruits and vegetables, dairy, eggs, and meat. Typically, less handling means more savings for you! There are so many ways to save while still taking home a healthy (and hefty) cart load each week. Check out everman.org/deals to scroll a list of member deals in each department! This could be a very useful tool for planning your shopping trips before you get to the store. We always strive to keep you updated on the latest deals so you can shop smart. Hopefully with these tips you can discover a great balance between quality food and a happy wallet in 2020!

Ask LauraLee By: LauraLee Nichols

I know meal planning and prepping is ideal. Any tips to keep healthy habits while busy? I love to meal plan and cook, but sometimes I just get busy and I let the Ever’man Café take care of me. Because all of the ingredients are listed on the label, I know exactly what is in my food. Cost effective and tastes amazing.

We have so many choices every day. Here is my favorite quick and easy meal hack: I get our amazing rotisserie chicken (find that on the end of the hot bar) that has some of my favorite spices on it and the Quinoa Butternut Squash salad (snag this from the Grab-and-Go shelf in the deli section.) From the produce department prepped produce shelf, I get a Stir Fry Mix and then I pick up a bottle of wine that is on sale. Once I’m home, I put the chicken in a glass baking dish and cover it to reheat it in the oven. Then, I saute the Quinoa Butternut Squash and the Stir Fry Mix in separate pans with either olive oil or coconut oil. Our favorite is the Riojana Olive Oil. For just over $20, you’ll get 3-4 servings for dinner in practically no time, or if you want to splurge on the wine you can round that up to $30. You’ll have peace of mind knowing you’re sticking to your healthy habits while making things easier on yourself during a busy week.

Everyone seems to be talking about mushrooms and all of the ways to incorporate them into a healthy lifestyle—where do I even begin if I want to learn more? If you’re familiar with traditional natural vitamins, herbs and supplements—you can think about mushrooms in a similar way. However, you might be interested to know that humans share more DNA with mushrooms than plants. Mushrooms are the Original Superfood!

I recently attended a training by Host Defense and learned so much about the amazing mushrooms and the great practices of the company. Host Defense products are Certified Organic, nonGMO, grown in the U.S.A , sustainably cultivated, Bee Friendly, Gluten Free and Vegan. I currently am taking Host Defense My Community (a 17-Species Multi Mushroom Complete), Host Defense Myco Shield Spray Immune Support in Peppermint and Host Defense Turmeric Immune Tea. I saw it popping up everywhere and I’ve personally used a lot of mushroom products, like Lion’s Mane for supporting brain function. What I learned was that there is a lot to gain from a mushroom complex—like the Host Defense My Community, a unique combination of mycelium and fruit-bodies—compared to a single mushroom supplement. And the tea is so good—they have the Turmeric Immune, Peaceful Mint and Hibiscus and Green Tea. It’s a great way to incorporate mushrooms into your tea habit if that’s more your style. The MyCo Shields are so handy, especially during the winter months when you need a quick defensive move to support your immune system. It combines five powerful polypore mushroom species in the convenience of an oral spray. Plus I appreciate that Host Defense is a bee-friendly company. It was great to learn about all the work Paul Stamets, founder of Host Defense, is doing to promote pollinator protection and environmental conscious throughout the company.

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS By: Stephanie Sharp

The new year can often bring with it old feelings. Tired refrains of negative self-talk and aggressive advertising campaigns can quickly wear the shine off of the most ambitious resolutions. How can we harness all of the energy and optimism of the new year and start the new decade with a sense of momentum-instead of overwhelm? It’s time to reclaim and re-frame the new year as an opportunity for bright beginnings. Beginnings bring excitement, anticipation and energy to routines or processes that might otherwise devolve into frustration, discouragement and disillusionment.

THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE | 17

start a journey...

TAKE A DREAM INVENTORY.

Because you’re just looking to start a journey instead of taking on a resolution, there is no pressure to jump out of bed on January 1 as a “new you.” In fact, this exercise is the perfect compliment to a leisurely winter morning and pairs well with a warm beverage, cozy clothing and long stretches of free time. Grab a notebook and a pen--you’ll want to be free from the distractions and distortions of the social and digital media temptations of technology. Take a few minutes to meditate, pray or just breathe deeply to bring awareness to your body and your inner voice. Once you feel calm and clear, write out your answers to the following questions. When I was a child, what did I want to be when I grew up? What did I like to do before the pressures and stress of adult life? When I was a teen or young adult, what did I feel passionate about? Where did I see my life going over the course of my life? How has my life changed in the past decade? What have I learned? Are there any dreams I have neglected? Any wild ideas I’ve ignored because “I could never do that?” What parts of my journey so far am I most proud of ? Are there any missed opportunities that I still think about? How could I reconnect with moments or people that brought those opportunities to my life? 18 | THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

In the next decade, I want to create In the next decade, I want to try In the next decade, I want to give the world In the next decade, I want to know

Now that you’ve taken some time to explore the dormant or downplayed dreams in your heart, you can probably see an idea emerging for how you can start the new year as the first step in a journey of growth and personal satisfaction. We’ve outlined a few common journeys to help get your ideas and inspiration flowing. Feel free to take what resonates with you and leave the rest--or share with a loved on who may also need a boost of positivity and perception!

2020 WILL BE THE YEAR I…. BEGIN A BUSINESS.

It has never been easier to start out on an entrepreneurial path. No matter where your talents and skills take you, there are tons of resources available that can help you monetize your free time.

Often people become discouraged because they may need to stay in their “day job” for longer than they’d like or they get caught in the trap of toxic comparison with others in their desired field of business that have already established their brand, product or client base. The internet can distort the abundance of opportunities to seem like there is hardly enough success to go around! Beware social media ads selling you a quick and easy way to retire early, build your empire or make “passive” income just like the supposed business guru evangelizing their course did--without ever getting out of their pajamas! Building a sustainable and thriving business is a long process that takes dedication and determination. A wonderful way to get moving towards this dream is by connecting with real entrepreneurs in your community that are growing their business. Keep your eyes peeled for networking events, co-working opportunities, workshops and panel discussions that will have you bumping elbows with real people who can support you as you get started.

finally unveiled. Something for just for you, but also for the world. The new year is a great time to dive back in to creative pursuits or take up a beginner’s mindset and start a fresh attempt at expression. An easy path forward can be as simple as checking out a book from the library or cruising thrift stores for second-hand tools. Don’t let perfectionism or insecurity trick you into thinking you have to go back to school or invest a ton of cash into high end gear to try your hand at an artistic experiment. If your passion project is more closely related to advocacy and outreach, see where you can start making a difference locally. There are probably lots of like-minded folks who would love to tap into your passion, talent and motivation to make a difference right in your community. As you get involved locally, you can grow your own project and efforts using the connections you create now.

START WITH A SPARK.

Use what you’ve discovered in this exercise to build a healthy motivation and give your new year the brightness of perspective that will guide your path throughout 2020 and beyond.

Don’t be afraid to take things slowly! Being deeply pragmatic and ruthlessly responsible with your finances, time and creative resources will help you stay the course as you take the next steps of beginning a business.

BEGIN A WELLNESS ROUTINE.

Perhaps you look at your dream inventory and see an adventurous spirit that is trapped by burnout, chronic over-scheduling and unchecked people-pleasing. It is hard to chase your dreams when you’re sleep deprived, nutrition-poor and frustrated with your day-to-day life. Of course, there’s nothing too radical about starting the new year with a bunch of “healthy habits” dutifully awaiting their check marks in your planner. What is truly transformative is re-framing the idea of wellness--both movement and nourishment--as a means to your dreams. Surfing, hiking, scuba diving, playing a sport, learning to dance, yoga training, running a marathon--no matter what adventure makes your eyes light up and puts a fire under your feet, you will be so much more capable if you establish a wellness routine that supports performance over aesthetics. Even if your wellness routine includes traditional workouts or a new set of food guidelines, you’ll be happier and more motivated by the prospect of working towards a dream than trying to conform to a standardized regimen.

BEGIN A PASSION PROJECT.

Perhaps your dream inventory revealed something that wasn’t quite entrepreneurial or physical in nature. Instead, you saw a vision of a non-profit cause championed or a magnum opus THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE | 19

Affection Connection

By: Sherry Brubaker

Three kids later and my understanding of love is ever-changing. Sometimes it’s a wildflower that was picked especially for me, other times it is a skinned knee only Mom can fix. As a mother, time and energy is devoted to enjoying life with your kids. Love is a constant rhythm in my home, and I show my kids the depth of love by loving their father. Romance can easily be lost in translation with the hustle and bustle of life with kids. Taking time every day to show your spouse you are thinking about them is so important. Small acts like a compliment or a couple of texts throughout the day are an effortless way to show love. Love, in my home, is translated through acts of kindness and food. When grocery shopping, I take the kids by the candy aisle to grab my husband’s favorites. It’s a small gesture, but the thought and action is there for them to learn from and remember as they grow. Sometimes, I’ll be cooking dinner with three hungry kids all lined up at my counter, watching my every move. Suddenly, their dad will swoop in and work me into a two-step slow dance to his favorite country song. We have our own little audience, right in the middle of the kitchen. As special and important as those day-to-day surprises are, date nights are always my favorite. My girls watch me as I excitedly do my hair and makeup to look my best for their dad. They wish us a fun evening as we head out the door. The two of us always have a warm conversation over our dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and talk about our future plans together.

22 | THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

At first, I had guilt leaving my children with a babysitter. It’s a very normal feeling. But as soon as I realized my children excitedly anticipated having a babysitter over and relished the switch in their schedule, we made date night a monthly priority. My kids get special privileges like a later bed time and extra snacks when the babysitter comes over, so it’s quite the treat for parents and kids alike! Date nights can even be as simple as a cozy evening at home. We get the kids ready for bed and turn off our phones. Dinner is made together in the kitchen and enjoyed by candlelight. Popcorn and sweets are eaten on the couch, where we are snuggled together under a warm blanket to enjoy a good movie. Romance made easy! Whether it’s a random kiss or a hand held in the car, I encourage you to make the time to love this season. Embrace times of growth and change in your family, but take that essential time for yourself and your spouse. Not only will it help your relationship thrive throughout the years--but your kids are watching and learning. Be their first great example of love. It’s easy to wake up wishing we could hit snooze (and drift off to that greener pasture we’ve all thought about) because we already feel exhausted from the day of “have to’s” ahead. But what if we changed our perspective?

24 | THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

Our moods are most affected by the perspective we intentionally choose each day, rather than the obstacles we’re presented with. Our days often have a recurring rhythm. Our alarm goes off at the crack of dawn, we rub our eyes trying to wake up, roll out of bed and start our daily routine. We get dressed, quickly serve our family breakfast and clean up while trying to keep everything (and everybody) in order. As we help everyone off to wherever they need to be and hop in the car, our brains go on autopilot and the day moves along without much excitement or joy. With such a routine, it’s easy to imagine how the grass may be greener on the other side, thinking, “One day when I (insert goal or achievement here), things will be better.” If there’s a few things I’ve learned over the years, especially after starting a family, it’s that so much of our lives take place behind the curtains in our minds. We wake up and go about our business doing what’s familiar and use our memories, imagination, speculation or interpretation to determine how we will react to what lies ahead. It’s easy to wake up wishing we could hit snooze (and drift off to that greener pasture we’ve all thought about) because we already feel exhausted from the day of “have to’s” ahead. But what if we changed our perspective? Could our lives radically transform? You have the power to consciously choose between two ways to take on your day. You could: Wake up and run through a to-do list. Trudge through your morning with a sigh and roll your eyes thinking, “I have to go to work today. Tonight, I have to get in my car and drive to the gym. When I’m there, I have to push myself when all I feel like doing is relaxing. Ugh… Then I then have to pick up my kids and try to stay smiling and engaged while preparing dinner and keeping everyone entertained, just to clean up, pack lunches for tomorrow and get my family ready for bed. I have to do all those things.”

Sound familiar? Is that really appealing to anyone? Let’s change our outlook for a moment: The grass is only greener where you water it. Same day, new outlook: You sit up in bed, shoulders back and eyes wide open with excitement for what the day may offer. You’re thinking, “Yes, today I have the opportunity to be a part of a team, to inspire and uplift and truly make a difference in people’s lives. Tonight, I get to hop in MY car and spend an hour exercising with other energetic people, becoming stronger and boosting my endorphins… I’ll feel so good and proud. Then I get to pick up my kids, head home and cook a healthy meal TOGETHER, sharing the highlights of our day. After dinner, we get to turn on some music and spend time together without any of life’s distractions, developing an even stronger bond with one another. We’re experiencing this moment that only food, music and family can bring together – it’s special.” Same day, two different perspectives. This one is approached with eagerness and anticipation in wonder of what you’re going to be able to do with that day, excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. “What will I do with this day? What CAN I do with this day?” How do YOU want to live? Perspective is everything and happiness is contagious. Look at today, and every day, as a new beginning – one to get excited about. Instead of seeing a day that’s filled with “have to’s” visualize what your day can be like. This allows you to create a NEW reality and begin to see things in a different light. Be intentional in reminding yourself that the grass will grow green and plush wherever you water it. It’s the perspective you choose, not the day you’re presented with that ultimately tells you where you stand and how you should feel. And the neat thing is, you get to make that choice!
