Welcome everymantheatre.org.uk572573 2
The Everyman Theatre hosted the world premiere of Great British Bake Off: The Musical in July.
Welcome to another spectacular season of work at The Everyman Theatre. I hope you have all had a great summer and are ready to join us this autumn and winter for some fantastic musicals, dramas and comedy; as well as our nationally acclaimed Pantomime! As part of the new season I am delighted that the Everyman Theatre will be hosting the national tour launch of The Lavender Hill Mob in October, the first ever tour of Girl From The North Country, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and hilarious stand-up from comic stylings as diverse as Stewart Lee, Harry Hill, Milton Jones and Dave Gorman. I am also pleased to announce the return of English Touring Opera after an extended absence as well as productions from The Dnipro Opera from Ukraine. Along with our performances we’re pleased to be launching our all-new Priority Access Membership which will offer members discounted tickets as well as advance notification of performances and other member benefits. The new programme is a great way to get access to the best seats in the house and support the Everyman Theatre’s extensive community outreach and education programmes. Please see the back cover of this brochure for more information.
As we get closer to the festive season this year’s Pantomime will be supporting the work of two Gloucestershire charities, The Scrubditch Care Farm and St. James City Farm. It is our hope to support the work of these two fine organisations and raise funds to allow them to continue their vital work with vulnerable children, asylum seekers and refugees. The Everyman Theatre will continue to do as much as we can to reach out to those members of our local community most in need of support and encouragement As always, I hope you will enjoy your visits to our beloved theatre. Our team remains dedicated to making your night out a memorable one and we do not take your support for granted. We’ll see you at the MarkSincerely, show!Goucher, Chief Executive

Susie Blake, Sophie Ward and Joe McFadden star in Miss Marple’s return to the stage... 1960s England and a wind of change is blowing through the land. It has even reached the sleepy village of St. Mary Mead. There’s a new housing estate to make the villagers curious and fearful. And even stranger, a rich American film star has bought the Manor House.
‘Playing Miss Marple is every actors dream over the age of 50. To play a bright, independent, older woman is surprising and exciting for the period it was written in as well as in our society today.’
A brand-new production of Rachel Wagstaff’s (Birdsong, The Girl on the Train) acclaimed adaptation produced by the award-winning Original Theatre Company who brought you Alan Bennett’s The Habit of Art, the smash-hit comedy Invincible and the acclaimed Birdsong Starring Susie Blake as Miss Marple (Victoria Wood’s As Seen on TV, Coronation Street, Mrs. Brown’s Boys) Sophie Ward (A Very British Scandal, Holby City, Land Girls) and Joe McFadden (Holby City, Heartbeat and Strictly Come Dancing 2017 winner).
Jane Marple, confined to a chair after an accident, is wondering if life has passed her by. Then there is a vicious murder, and Miss Marple must unravel a web of lies, tragedy and danger. This adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famous novel brings real emotional depth and psychological insight to a thrilling story of revenge and the dark secrets that we all hide. But can anything be hidden from Miss Marple, the sweet old lady with mind like a steel trap?

From the writer of the Academy Awardwinning Bohemian Rhapsody, Darkest Hour, and The Theory of Everything, comes the play that sparked a major motion picture. Nine years ago, Pope Benedict XVI stunned the world by resigning, the first Pope in 700 years to do so. What drove this archconservative to break with sacred tradition and make way for a one-time tango club bouncer, football-loving reformer with the common touch to become Pope Francis, one of most powerful men on earth?
Come and see one of the nation’s favourite films brought to life on stage in a brand new adaptation by the Olivier-nominated playwright Phil Porter, directed by Tony and Olivier-nominated Jeremy Sams and starring Miles Jupp (The Thick of It, Rev, The Durrells, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?) and Justin Edwards (The Thick of It, Black Books, Veep, Father Brown).
This side-splittingly funny, fast-paced comedy tells the story of Henry Holland, an unassuming bank clerk who dreams of stealing the gold bullions he transports across London each day.
When Henry learns that his new lodger makes Eiffel Tower paperweights out of lead, he devises a plan to make his dream a reality. It’s a golden opportunity to pull off the crime of the century, they’d have to be fools to mess it up …
Written by T.E.B Clarke, directed by Charles Crichton and starring comedy legends Alec Guinness and Sid James, The Lavender Hill Mob was released by Ealing Studios in 1951 to critical acclaim. The film was the winner of the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and was ranked in the BFI’s top twenty greatest British films of all time.
Come and rediscover this much-loved classic in the brand-new stage play that promises to be the most fun night out of the year!

Aida Carmen £35 7.30pm £35 18 March Evenings: 7.30pm from £35
A deeply moving opera overflowing with emotion and containing moments of despair and uncertainty. Aida is an unforgettable, inspiring experience. Carmen tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who falls head over heels in love with Carmen, a seductive, free-spirited femme fatale. The infatuated Don José abandons his childhood sweetheart and neglects his military duties, only to lose the fickle Carmen to the glamorous toreador Escamillo. Love, treachery, passion and betrayal, Carmen has it all.
Madama Butterfly No opera can match the tragedy and sorrow of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Set in Japan at the turn of the last century, it is the story of a doomed love affair between an American naval officer and his young Japanese bride whose self-sacrifice and defiance of her family leads to tragedy. This touching tale of innocent love crushed between two utterly different culutures resonates as strongly as ever in today’s world. Three classic productions featuring an impressive cast and live orchestra of over 30 musicians. Performed by the Dnipro Opera from Ukraine.

Cheltenham 1881: In the kitchen of the von Holst household, Clara is wracking her brains to think what to cook for supper. Her two little boys, Gustav and Emil, are in bed, husband Adolph is visiting a Montpellier hostelry after a concert and the new maid has taken to her room. Like so many Victorian housewives, Clara turns to Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management for advice. But Clara is a talented musician and her mind wanders from stockpots to a time when she still had dreams of her own… Then into her kitchen, bustles Mrs Beeton herself, the mob-capped matron of our imagination and Clara’s stern taskmaster. But is Bella Beeton all that she seems? Joe has always been a nerd. In his teens, he hid it. In his twenties, he owned it. Now in his thirties, Joe is still obsessed with Nintendo, Star Wars, and A Muppets Christmas Carol. But he’s started to notice something about the way certain fans are behaving - something unsettling. When Joe finds himself alone, in his old room, sorting through his old things, he finds an old video tape, long forgotten. He dusts off the VCR, presses play…and something strange starts to happen!

Gareth Armstrong’s award-winning play confronts and confounds the stereotypes through the eyes of Shylock’s only friend – and the only other Jewish man in all of Shakespeare – Tubal. Promoted to centre stage from his minor role in The Merchant of Venice, he proves a born comic storyteller. Celebrating the richness of Shakespeare’s language and conjuring up a whole cast of characters, this dazzling, moving, often hilarious play is a fascinating exploration of Shylock and his people.
An interactive, funny and magical show for family audiences from 3 – 8 years. Deep in the heart of the Norwegian Forest live the trolls – big trolls, tiny trolls and a Nosy Little Troll who has an amazingly sensitive nose… One day there is a mumbling and a rumbling from the trolls. What is that wonderfully stinky smell wafting through the trees? The Nosy Little Troll sets off to follow her nose on a quest to solve the mysterious pong. Will she be brave enough to cross the scary old stone bridge and succeed in sniffing out the culprit?
