Position: Business Program Designer
Every One Every Day (EOED) Kjipuktuk / Halifax
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Salary Range: $32.00 per hour
Employment Term: Contract term November 2024-March 31, 2025 (possible renewal), Full Time hours (35 per week)
General Description
The aim of the collaborative business program will be to support residents to develop the skills, experience and networks needed to create new co-operative and collaborative business models. This could mean supporting a group of residents to build a collaborative brand, test a product together, or set up a local pop-up shop to market a set of locally made wares. The Business Program Designer will work between the MNFC offices and the Gottingen St. Neighbourhood Shop to deliver multiple business programs across diverse domains (ie. clothing, catering, food production, childcare, etc.).
Reporting to the Co-Director of Strategy, the Business Program Designer will work closely with EOED’s Neighbourhood Project Designers to run the neighbourhood shop and grow a network of practical participation projects that are continuously evolving and expanding to invite more participation.
They will also work to build relationships with diverse community partners and specialists that can support skills development and specialized training opportunities both within the programs, as well as for continued learning and skills development (post-program).
Key Responsibilities
Co-Design & Delivery of Collaborative Business Programs
• · Co-design collaborative business programs with residents, drawing upon ‘Participation Culture and Models”;
• Apply co-production methods with other EOED project staff, neighbourhood participants, external partners & specialists to support ideation and participation;
• Develop creative ways to invite in diverse people to discuss their business ideas and pull these ideas together to start new programs;
• Contribute to a growing database of inspiration projects that help to spark new ideas and creativity around possible projects and programs;
• Develop training and learning pathways for participants within each business program;
• Purchase materials and equipment in line with set budgets;
• Lead the development of special events and/or workshops in support of connecting residents around the development and implementation of collaborative businesses;
• Work to incorporate Inclusivity and Reconciliation Principles (already existing) into the development and delivery process.
Partnership/Network Development:
• Build relationships with local and city-wide contacts with knowledge/skills specialists, accredited organizations, schools, and training organizations, that could support delivery of programs and leverage resources at the neighborhood level;
• Identify specialists/tutors with varied skills for different programs (eg food, retail, manufacturing);
• Engage in specific outreach with MNFC (staff and community) to build connections to existing programs, services and initiatives that offer culturally relevant business supports to Halifax’s urban Indigenous community;
• Engage in specific outreach across North End organizations and businesses to foster local collaboration and contribute to a growing ecosystem of collaboration and participation.
Communications
• Support the production of print and online content for a range of communication materials;
• Support residents in developing and producing collaborative brands that help to promote and build awareness of their businesses;
• Develop and deliver social media plans specifically related to collaborative business programs (feeding into broader social media efforts).
Team Development, Learning & Evaluation
• Engage in on-going data collection and reflection practices that support team-wide developmental and Indigenous informed evaluation practices;
• Contribute to the development of learning/ training resources that reflect insights and learning from a collaborative business program perspective.
• Engage in regular learning & development sessions with the team on a range of topics and work to advance key actions related to this learning (ie. Truth & Reconciliation, developmental evaluation, participation culture, etc.).
• Commit to practicing and contributing to EOED team values and processes for creating a safe and inclusive work environment for all team members.
• Actively participate in team meetings and retreats and engage in facilitation and co-design for/with team members.
• Participate in writing (ie. Blogs) and storytelling that help to reflect upon the work and incorporate resident experiences.
• Adhere to all Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre policies and practices;
• Other duties as required;
Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in the areas of business development & management, entrepreneurship, inclusive economic development, or another related field;
• Excellent people person with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals to support inclusion, particularly in relation to Urban Indigenous and African Nova Scotian communities;
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
• Knowledge of a range of making and coproduction techniques that can inspire and support ideas for collaborative businesses;
• Experience with business development and revenue generation models that prioritize social, environmental and economic impact and work to leverage innovative and exciting partnerships;
• Experience developing and facilitating workshops and supporting others to do so; Ability to listen and respond to community ideas and opportunities;
• Experience using diverse social media channels to share information, build support and build momentum around ideas;
• Proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and comfort using project/data management tools such as Monday, HubSpot, and/or others;
• Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registrar prior to hiring.
