PARTY TABLE 10 tips for the table

START WITH A BRIGHT BASE. Anchoring your refreshment table with a colorful base sets the tone for the décor. The Sunkissed Orange Tablecover available at the Evite party store is the perfect shade for Halloween.

CREATE A BACKDROP FOR YOUR TABLE. A backdrop gives a cohesive look to the scene. Wrap black fabric around a large piece of heavy-duty cardboard, secure it with a staple gun, and place on the table propped against the wall.

ADD BRIGHT POPS OF COLOR. Bright colors draw the eye and add depth. We love the Boo Crew Halloween Monster Fans with AddOns available at the Evite party store for adding color and fun.

CREATE LEVELS ON THE TABLE. Use tiered trays, cake stands, or simply flip a pair of cylindrical vases like we did and top with a tray to add height– a great space-saving trick!

DECORATE CUPCAKES WITH TOPPERS. You can buy or DIY depending on your time and budget. (See our DIY Monster Cupcake Topper instructions on page 11.)

PICK SMART MENU ITEMS. Food for a buffet needs to taste great at room temperature – steer clear of items that need to be served hot or kept refrigerated.

SERVE FOOD IN INDIVIDUAL PORTIONS. Grab-and-go options make it easy for little monstars to help themselves.

ADD PLAYFULNESS TO YOUR TABLETOP. Buy assorted googly eyes to decorate clear plastic cups, vases, pumpkins, and other elements. They bring objects to life and add fun to the table. Check out the fun giant googly eyes we used to decorate our tall ceramic jars!

PROVIDE THE ESSENTIALS. Don’t forget to display utensils and napkins on the table so guests don’t need to go hunting for them!

POPCORN MONSTER MASH UP Munchies made easy INGREDIENTS ❑ 8 cups cheese-flavored popcorn

❑ 4 cups Rice Chex® cereal ❑ 1 tbsp butter, melted ❑ 2 cups salted pretzel sticks ❑ 2 ½ cups candy corn ❑ 2 ½ cups miniature marshmallows 8

INSTRUCTIONS ● Preheat oven to 325 degrees. ● Pour Rice Chex® cereal into large mixing bowl. Drizzle with melted butter and gently mix to coat cereal with butter.

● Mix in popcorn and pretzels and pour into large baking pan. Bake for 5 minutes. ● Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 - 20 minutes until thoroughly cooled.

● Mix in miniature marshmallows and candy corn. ● Spoon into 9 oz. plastic tumblers.

pasta CHEESY HORNED-MONSTER MACARONI Serve “grab-and-go” portions for monstars to fill their bellies INGREDIENTS

❑ 2 boxes Tri-Color Rotini pasta ❑ 8 tbsp. salted butter, cut into tablespoons ❑ 2 cups pasta water ❑ 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese ❑ 12 Kraft String Mozzarella Cheese sticks, sliced ❑ 1 head of broccoli, washed and cut into bite-sized florets ❑ 2 cups carrots, washed and sliced into bite-sized sticks INSTRUCTIONS ● Bring large pot of salted water to a boil. Add broccoli and carrots and cook for 5 minutes until soft. Using a slotted spoon, remove vegetables from water to a bowl. Cover and set aside. ● Add pasta to boiling water and cook according to box instructions. Drain and reserve 2 cups pasta water. ● Return pasta and vegetables to pot, stir in 1 cup hot pasta water followed by butter. Mix until butter is completely melted. If pasta seems a little dry, gradually add in a bit more pasta water. ● Mix in Kraft String Mozzarella Cheese. ● Ladle into clear plastic cups and sprinkle generously with Parmesan.

GREEN-EYED MONSTER PUNCH Give the gang a giggle! INGREDIENTS

❑ 2 gallons neoncolored lemon-lime sports drink/juice ❑ 1 navel orange, washed and sliced

❑ 1 lime, washed and sliced

❑ 10 plastic eyeballs, washed

❑ eye cubes*

INSTRUCTIONS ● Pour drink into beverage dispenser with spigot. Add fruit slices and eye cubes.

*How to Make Eye Cubes: Wash plastic eyeballs. Wedge into ice cube tray. Fill with water. Freeze.

Tip: Serving punch in a beverage dispenser with spigot prevents the eye cubes from sneaking out into the drinks. 10

❑ 1 box Betty Crocker cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)

❑ 1 12-oz. container

❑ 12 paper baking cups ❑ Halloween-colored sprinkles

❑ 12 Monster Cupcake Toppers*

Betty Crocker whipped frosting INSTRUCTIONS ● Bake cupcakes according to box instructions and allow to cool thoroughly. ● Place frosting in a pastry bag and pipe on frosting. Top with sprinkles and place cupcake in paper baking cup. ● Insert Monster Cupcake Topper.

DIY Monster Cupcake Topper MATERIALS

❑ 12 black polka-dot cake-pop sticks

❑ 12 2” styrofoam balls ❑ orange, purple, lime-

❑ glue ❑ assorted googly eyes ❑ assorted pipe cleaners

green yarn INSTRUCTIONS Wrap Styrofoam ball with yarn. When it’s fully covered, cut the yarn and secure end under neighboring strand.

Insert cake-pop stick into bottom of ball (take a look at your yarn ball to see which side looks best for the face).

Glue on eye(s). Wrap pipe cleaner around a pencil and then cut in half to make two “squiggles” that you can insert into yarn ball as horns. 11

POM-POM MONSTER GLOW-STICK NECKLACES Light up the night with a fun and functional favor MATERIALS ❑ 1 Pkg. (12) Purple Light Stick Necklaces

❑ Assorted colors of yarn (purple, lime green, orange)

INSTRUCTIONS Cut a 1” x 4” piece of thick cardboard (you can use cake mix box). Fold piece of cardboard in half lengthwise. Cut a 12” piece of yarn and place in folded cardboard.

Wrap yarn around cardboard about 150-200 times depending on thickness of yarn.

Attach eyes using Elmer’s Glue Spots.

❑ Wilton Candy Eyeballs ❑ Elmer’s Craft Bond Glue Spots ❑ 1” x 4” piece of heavy cardboard

Pull the 12” piece of yarn from the ends tightly up and around the mound of wrapped yarn and tie as tightly as possible. Use sharp pointed scissors to cut the yarn on both sides of the cardboard. (Hint: Cut in layers as the wrapped yarn is too thick to cut in one shot.) Holding the pom-pom by the two long strings, fluff up the yarn and trim the longer yarns of the pom-pom to form a ball. Note: Do not cut the two ends of the long yarn you used to tie pom-pom as you will use these to tie pom-pom to light stick.

String the ribbon included in the package through the top of the light stick and tie near end of string to create a necklace.

Tip: Remember to activate light sticks before heading out to Trick-orTreat.

Tie the pom-pom onto the top of the light stick and trim ends of tie. Optional: Anchor the pom-pom to top of light stick with an Elmer’s Glue Spot to further stabilize. 13
