Dear Friend,
I took a trip last month and found love in many places. At the time I didn't realize this was my quest. But what I found on my journey was love expressed in all its forms: A love of travel, nature, adventure, the kindness of strangers, renewal and reflection, love of self and love expressed through growth were all placed in my path. I learned that loving ourselves isn't just a clichéd 'it' topic; it's a life skill, just like romantic love, that can peak and wane, but must be cultivated to thrive. My journey to Santa Fe, NM originally started as a much-needed getaway and a chance to explore some travel writing. I decided while I was there to prospect the area for the potential of starting an edition of Evolving Magazine. A man named Devon Jackson responded to my ad for an Associate Publisher, someone to be the local voice and connection with the Santa Fe community. Devon has a strong editorial background as former editor for The Santa Fean. He has lived in Santa Fe for 17 years, understands the philosophy and integrity of the publication and is a dynamo sales person. I'm sure he will thrive in creating a local edition of the magazine. In May we'll launch the Santa Fe/Taos edition of Evolving Magazine. Branching into other cities, taking the magazine national, one city at a time, has been a dream of mine for many years. Each year I add it to my list of goals for the year. At the end of each year, the desire unattained, I re-write it as my goal for the coming year. We can plan and reach for our dreams, but until the timing is right, it's a waiting game. Trying to force it is like walking through mud; instead, when the timing is right, the feeling is more like playing in the rain. And now the time is right to love so deeply and fully. It's a time to love locally and throughout the country. As we approach six years of publishing Evolving Magazine, I thank you for loving and supporting this vision, as well.

News Free Concert: A Sonic Valentine for Mother Earth Music of the Spheres and Women of the Drum will be offering a free concert at Aquarius in Westport on Friday, February 13th in honor of World Sound Healing Day. Thirteen years ago recording artist/ sound healer Jonathan Goldman had an idea – why not send a sonic Valentine to Mother Earth every year? Since then, World Sound Healing Day has occurred every February 14th. People throughout the planet spend five minutes projecting an “AH” sound filled with love at 12 noon EST (11:00 am in Kansas City, although soundings occur throughout the day. The “AH” sound opens the heart, which has an electromagnetic field 3060 times stronger than the brain and brings it into coherence – the heart and brain synchronized with the energy of compassion. When we feel strong emotions our electromagnetic fields ‘broadcast’ these feelings to other biological systems. Think of yourself as adding your positive feelings to a planetary broadcast of peace. The Global Coherence Project collects data that demonstrates an interactive interface between human electro-magnetic fields and that of the Earth. The most powerful of these occur when the human electromagnetic field is in a state of coherence. The Global Consciousness Project
charts events of great compassion, finding that random numbers become less random and the usual straight line on a graph becomes a mountainous looking peak. After World Sound Healing Day in 2009, such a peak occurred (see above diagram). “This looks like a confirmation...that large scale communal thought and emotion may show up as structure in our data,” observed Roger Nelson, Director of the GCP. y friend and I savored our soup over a long lunch, enjoying our usual banter. She planned to leave for Florida soon for the winter. I felt a bit sad, as I would miss her. I said “Thank you for this friendship. How rewarding it is and how easy to be your friend.” “Ease is so fine,” she replied. She came into my life when a friendship with another had just ended with sour notes. As with good friends, our closeness developed over time to that wonderful camaraderie of sharing, caring and mutual respect. It reminds me of the often-used quote from Alexander Graham Bell: “When one door closes, another door opens.” He also said, “But we so often look so long and regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” I think love is a bit like that. There are so many opportunities to love, share and care with, and for each other. Still, to love and care is a choice. Also, I feel love mirrors the energy of our seven chakras. A healthy root chakra resonates safety and security; it’s the same as with love when we help those we love to feel safe and secure. A strong third chakra means we take responsibility and personal power in the way we love, free of ego or narcissi. Harmless humor is a big part of love and it makes loving fun, also third chakra. There is joy and pleasure in sharing and caring, and it takes much respect — heart chakra — to be open and vulnerable to our intimates. When harmless in our speech and tone—throat chakra—we create trust, a feeling that one can rely and count on each other. Love requires a state of knowing—sixth chakra—and ever-present respect of one another. Aadil Palkhivala wrote in his book, The Fire of Love, that this “respect” works wonders. “Respect makes humanity blossom,” he writes. ”Indeed, respect makes the humanity in us blossom. Only respect can bring real peace to the world.” He crafts his words with such beauty this long quote is worth reading: “Respect is care. Respect means

caring for ourselves, for others, for things, and for our planet. Therefore, to develop our capacity to give and receive respect, our central practice must be to observe ourselves as we speak and act, and ask ourselves whether our words and actions are being respectful to our own self, to other people, to material objects, and to the Earth that is our home. “Do I respect myself enough to discover my dharma, fill each moment with it, and live a meaningful life? Do I respect my body enough to eat healthful, organic food and exercise or practice yoga with purpose and joy? Do I respect my mind enough to nourish it with inspiring thoughts and spiritual poetry? Do I respect it enough to give it both silent rest and creative exercise — that is, stillness and freedom from thought as well as opportunities to think a new thought, ponder, and imagine? Do I respect my soul enough to go within my heart and listen to its suggestions for my life? Do I respect others’ freedom enough not to impose my ways, my beliefs, or my religion upon them? Do I respect others enough to allow that they might be right and I might be wrong? Do I respect my home enough to keep it clean and organized? We wish to receive respect from others, but do we give it? Do we live it?” The ease of love is the very essence of the second chakra—a birthright if you will—and indeed the glorious birth of the fires of love. Journey to Wholeness—by Jude LaClaire, Ph.D. Dads Behaving Dadly
A
l Watts, author of Dads Behaving Dadly: 67 Truths, Tears and Triumphs of Modern Fatherhood creatively points to the good side of men being fathers. An interview of Al, father of four children, ages 6-12, on National Public Radio caught my attention. For years I have watched the role of fatherhood changing. Men are making choices to spend more time with children, being more active caregivers with their children at all ages and coparenting in a collaborative way. Recently I observed a young couple with two children. The father was feeding the smaller child while the mother cared for the older child. I watched my niece and her husband parent their two children, taking turns caring for, tending to them and helping them with the social interaction of the family. In my counseling practice I work with men who are spending more time with their children and some, who are at-home dads. Since 1989 the number of stay-athome dads has doubled from 1.1 to 2 million. A huge change is the choice to be at home. In 1989, 5 percent chose to stay home while in 2012, 21 percent made this choice. The economy accounts for about 23 percent of those who are caring for children at home in 2012. The stay-at-home dads face misunderstanding based on stereotypes. Al described a visit to the dentist when the dental assistant said, “Well, Mom’s usually here and knows what’s going on so I thought that I would explain it to you.” He replied that he did understand and she did not need to explain. He also expressed the idea that some think taking care of children is emasculating and ‘feminine.’ He says, “There’s nothing feminine about loving your kids.” Our roles can change our brain chemistry. Women produce more oxytocin and estrogen. Now, it has been shown that when men care for their new-born infants, their estrogen levels increase and testosterone decreases. The same changes occur as men become more involved in caretaking their
children. Roles are important drivers in creating changes in our chemistry, and ultimately, our DNA. There is a National At-Home Dad Network that has regular conventions and a website, providing a vehicle of communication for stay-at-home dads. Recently Huggies had an ad portraying a dad being incompetent as he tried to change his infant’s diaper. The Network objected and petitioned Huggies to reconsider. The ad was changed and they became a sponsor for some of the Network’s service projects. Also, check out Role Reboot, a contemporary culture magazine about living “off script.” I found over ten books by dads about the experience of being with their children. Some of the titles give a hint of the delightful, creative and unique approaches of these men on parenting. For example, Life is Short, Laundry is Eternal: Confessions of a Stay-at-Home Dad; Dad or Alive: Confessions of an Unexpected Stay-atHome Dad; Housebroken: Confessions of a Stay-at-Home Dad; Daddy, Where’s Your Vagina? What I Learned as a Stay-at-Home Dad. Check out the website, the books and the new insight of men who are experiencing first-hand how the role of parenting is changing them and, I believe, their children. Many couples working outside the home share parenting to meet the demand of full-time work and caring for children. Divorced couples often have equal time with children, again giving dads more involvement in caring for the needs of the children. Times and roles are changing for men and women. Though many generations felt they had no choice in roles and expectations, the big change is that, in our culture, we have more choices. And sometimes that means breaking patterns, stereotypes and prejudices. Go Dads! Jude LaClaire, Ph.D., LCPC is a counselor, educator and author. Holistic Health—by Nancy Russell, M.D. A Natural Plan to Unleash your Healing Potential
O
n the journey to wellness, genetics do play a role in health and predisposition to diseases. DNA however is dynamic and not static, so you can be your own engineer in how genetic make-up is expressed in the human body. Healthy lifestyles improve the expression of these genetic tendencies and unhealthy lifestyles can damage the DNA and enhance tendencies to have a chronic health problem. The book, You-Staying Young, by Mehmet Oz M.D., explains the process in detail on how to extend the warranty on the human body! Sleep is imperative for optimal health. Sleep deprivation can lead to fatigue, brain fog, decreased stamina and increased pain sensitivity. Good sleep is enhanced by a regular sleep and wake routine, staying in bed 7 to 8 hours each night, exercising regularly and minimizing caffeine and alcohol. If you have trouble sleeping, try a natural relaxant such as magnesium, melatonin or valerian root. Optimal nutrition can be life changing by eating mostly fresh, whole, unprocessed foods. Staple foods should include vegetables, legumes, gluten free grains, fruits, nuts, eggs, fish and meats. Drink plenty of filtered water; 1/2 ounce for each pound of your ideal body weight. Respect your individuality for your own nutrition by paying attention to your age, sex, ancestry, activity level and blood type. I challenge you to get the book, Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type or get the app on your smart phone and follow it for 8 to 10 weeks. Eating right for your type can help to decrease inflammation, aches and pains, and can increase energy, immunity and longevity. If you suffer from sneezing, runny nose, gas and bloating, stomach pain, headaches or fatigue after you eat, you may have food sensitivities. To assess this possible issue, you can obtain a food sensitivity blood test measuring IgG levels to different foods or go on an elimination diet. Many people are deficient in nutritional requirements, even if the diet is very good. In general, most
Optimal nutrition can be life changing by eating mostly fresh, whole, unprocessed foods. people need at least the following supplements: Multi-vitamin and mineral, vitamin D3 and fish oil. It is important that your fish oil is purified to be free of contaminants. Toxicity does play a role in optimal health and toxins surround us everyday. The common chemicals that can cause toxicity in our bodies are found in sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and refined, nonorganic processed food — so keep them to none or a minimum. Toxic chemicals to completely avoid are nicotine, chlorine, all artificial sweeteners, hormones and pesticides in food, MSG and many more. These chemicals are addicting, disrupt our metabolism and accelerate the aging process. Other ways to decrease toxins are to drink, cook and bathe with filtered water, use air cleaners in your environment, eat organic foods, exercise and sweat regularly and do a body cleanse or detox one to two times a year. Last, but not least on your journey to optimal health is to remember to take time for stress management. Suggestions are to take a nature walk, pray, meditate, be still, breathe deeply, be with your pets, garden, sew or be creative in some way. Remember to just take time to be still and be gentle with your soul. Nancy Russell, M.D. has been a holistic Internal Medicine physician in the Kansas City northland for over 30 years at 5140 N. Food First!—by Bethany Klug, D.O. Valentine Treats without the Sting
I
t was December 1991. The doctor that would inspire me to follow in his footsteps ordered me to stop all sugar. That is, if I wanted to get well. Sugar did not cross my lips for more than five years. Fast forward to 2003. Aren’t you supposed to be able to eat goat or sheep cheese if cow cheese bothers you? Go figure. Stopping just 1/3 cup of goat cheese on a pizza once a week completely cleared a recalcitrant case of psoriasis. Then, to add insult to injury, I learned I have one of the genes for celiac disease. I guess there was a reason I felt better without gluten. How then, does one enjoy dessert without sugar, dairy and gluten? Restaurants like Pure Food and Wine in New York City, and Kansas City’s own Cafe Gratitude serve decadent desserts that you’d never guess were sugar, dairy, gluten and even grain-free. This is high art that I leave to the professionals. So, will I be eating dessert on Valentines Day? You bet! Check out these recipes for a rich chocolate mousse and a chia seed “rice” pudding that will pass for the real thing. No professional help needed, just a blender. A word about sweeteners: there are
many alternatives to white sugar available. I’ve tried most of them. I recently concluded that I prefer a small amount of raw honey — usually half the amount called for in recipes — because it is the least processed of the sugar alternatives. As with all foods, know your farmer! Honey is often cut with other ingredients like corn syrup. Yuck!
“Rice” Pudding While white chia seeds more closely mimic the appearance of rice, black chia seeds are more readily available. The pudding tastes the same either way. This recipe calls for young Thai coconut meat and water. Young Thai coconuts are the peeled ones wrapped in cellophane, not
the rough brown ones. Enter “how to open a Thai coconut” into your Internet browser for instructions on how to reveal the delicious meat and water. It’s easy once you know how. 1 cup macadamia nuts, soaked 2 hours and drained 1 cup chopped young Thai coconut meat (1 - 2 coconuts usually required) 1-1/2 cup coconut water or add water to equal 1 1/2 cups if coconut does not yield 1-1/2 cups water 1/4-cup raw honey 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp. sea salt Pinch of ground cardamom 1/2-cup chia seeds Blend all ingredients except chia seeds in a high-speed blender until smooth. Pour the mixture to a bowl, add the chia seeds and stir until chia seeds are well combined. Refrigerate for one hour to allow the pudding to thicken. Serves 6 8.

4 tsp. raw honey 2 tsp. natural vanilla extract If using raw cacao nibs, pulverize them in a high-speed blender or coffee grinder. With a clean blender pitcher, blend the milk and cocoa/cacao powder until combined. Add the avocado, honey and vanilla extract and purée until smooth. Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes and refrigerate until ready to eat. Serves 4. Variations: Before filling the serving dishes, fold in 1/2 cup toasted sliced almonds, fresh or frozen berries, chia seeds or cacao nibs.

Revelations—by William B. Miller, Jr. M.D. I Love You… Actually, I Love Your Microbiome
W
hat determines chemistry between two people? Who has not said, “They have good chemistry together?” We hear it so often that it seems trite. Typically, we direct that remark towards a couple that looks mismatched to our judgment. We ask ourselves, “What do they see in each other?” Our usual answer is that their 'chemistry' is just right. This is often our only way of reconciling the force of attraction between these two. However, what if the concept of chemical attraction has a direct biological basis? New research is revealing that it does and many of those reasons had not been previously expected or explored. It is becoming increasingly apparent that our microbiome has a tremendous influence upon us. The microbiome represents all the microorganisms that are in us and on us. Astoundingly, these are so numerous that they outnumber our own innate cells by a factor of ten to one or more. The current estimate is that we harbor 100 trillion cells that we would not think of as our own. Importantly, our relationship with our microbial companions is essential to our well being. Their influence is a crucial element of metabolic pathways. They are critical participants in glucose regulation, the mediation of our immune systems, and even partially regulate our emotional responses to stress. Our relationship with these obligatory microbial partners is intimate. We cannot survive without them and they cannot exist, as they prefer, without us. It should not be totally surprising then that they can affect our social choices and even our love life. How could germs influence our sexual choices? Those factors had remained hidden from our appraisal until recently. We simply did not have the technological means to assess it. Now we do and current research has found that the amount of microbial life in our mouths is startling and the transfer between kissing partners is extensive. However, the particular surprise is that although frequent intimate kissing between partners does correspond to the composition of the microbes that are shared between each, there is more afoot. It seems that
How could germs influence our sexual choices? there is a shared linkage in microbial composition in the mouths of sexual partners that operates regardless of kissing frequency. The implication is that there is a background connection with the microbial realm that might influence our initial choices of sexual partners. For example, the microbiota on the back of the tongue is more similar between kissing partners than unrelated individuals, but that identity does not clearly correlate to any kissing behavior or frequency. Nor does it appear to be due to specifically shared environmental factors. Something extends beyond that. Could it mean that we are attracted to one another on the basis of forces that are unapparent to our typical senses? There is other evidence to suggest that this the case and that it is based on our immunological status. We depend on that for our survival. So it should not be shocking that our immunological status might affect our choice of mates. We all exist on a planet also inhabited by aggressive microorganisms. How might any organism cope? Our evolutionary path, and that of all other complex organisms includes mechanisms directed towards protecting our offspring as much as possible. This imperative significantly governs how we select mates. As part of this process, we each have a group of genes that is crucial to immunological defenses. Experiments have showed that we are unconsciously attracted to other partners whose immunological background is complementary to our own. In order to best protect our children against an intrusive and agitating microbial realm, we tend to seek to mate with those that differ from ourselves on an immunological basis. Although this may seem odd on first consideration, it actually makes sense from an evolutionary perspective. The combination of immunological capacities of healthy mates that differ confers better protection to the next generation. There are research studies that reinforce this finding. Experiments have demonstrated that sexual partners are attracted to certain body odors. For human odors, microbes matter. However, in a crucial
evolutionary twist, that odor attraction is not for similarity but for opposite types. In the aggregate as a species, we seem to search for other sexual partners that are not our match immunologically. What might underlie this instinct? The answer lies within both our own personal genes and our particular microbial complement. On an evolutionary basis, our species is best protected by the mixing of opposing genes and microbes. Successful mating proceeds for many reasons, but there is an important one that has been previously obscure. That additional reason is our critical association with a vast microbial partnership that is crucial to our immunological balance. When contrasting individuals both mix genes and share microbes, the next generation gets a boost. Even more astoundingly, the influence of the microbial sphere extends well beyond these factors. Research has demonstrated that infection with certain parasites can overtly guide sexual choice. Such an example is a parasite called Toxoplasmosis. Cats serve as an intermediate host but it also frequently infects humans. Surprisingly, this common parasite has been shown to affect human behavior, physiology and even our physical appearance. As strange as it may seem, in carefully controlled experiments, human females perceive infected males as more dominant and more masculine than uninfected males. What should we make of all this? The next time you gaze lovingly at your favorite other, tip your hat mentally to your hidden microbial partners. In truth, your microbiome might have made you do it.

Feature—by Tracy Ochester and Martha Childers Conscious Relationships: Cultivating Connection through Intention, Presence and Accountability
T
o be conscious means to be aware. In our closest relationships, we are frequently caught unawares. Like so many aspects of our busy daily lives, we take our relationships for granted. Much of our behavior is automatic. Our minds are distracted by obligations and responsibilities, and our attention is tugged in every direction. We tend to react to events. While automatic behavior may be helpful in an emergency, it isn’t effective for complex problem solving and sustainable decision-making. Since relationships are complicated and we usually want them to be long lasting, it makes sense for us to manage them consciously. Being conscious in our relationships starts with setting an intention. Deepak Chopra said, “Intention is the starting point of every dream.” Since intentions are personal and we cannot control others, it makes no sense to set an intention that relies on the other to behave in a certain way. Our power lies in our own thoughts, feelings, and behavior. So our intentions should be for ourselves. An example of such an intention is the promise to “love, honor and cherish”. Another intention might be to “keep my heart open, allow myself to be vulnerable, and behave in a manner that supports connection.” Being fully conscious also means being present. This requires focusing on one thing at a time – attending only to what is happening here and now. When emotions are high, being present requires us to step back and bear witness. This clears a space in our minds in order to observe with curiosity and openness. We also must suspend the fight or flight response and allow ourselves to be vulnerable. When attention is not divided by the need to defend or protect, resurrect the past, or ruminate about the future, then we are able to be fully present. One simple way to be present in your relationship is to give your partner your undivided attention when speaking to you. Orient your body, join your eyes, and use active listening skills like reflecting, paraphrasing and clarifying. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the present moment. Listen to your partner as you would like to be heard. Take the perspective that your be-
When you love someone, the best thing you can offer is your presence. How can you love if you are not there? — Thich Nhat Hanh loved is worth your investment and deserves your best effort. If you find that this moment is not a time in which you can give your best effort, say this and set a time to talk in the near future when you can be more present. If you find that your mind often wanders when your loved one is speaking to you, notice and be curious about where you mind goes. Ask yourself whether this thought is more important than the person you love. Conscious couples focus on ways to stay connected and foster harmony. Conflict and divisiveness can be soothed by cultivating compassion and kindness within oneself. One method for achieving this is through loving-kindness meditation (LKM). LKM is the practice of developing feelings of compassion and goodwill toward oneself and others by wishing them happiness, contentment and peace. Meditating on compassion opens our hearts and increase kindness toward ourselves and others — hate and fear dissolve in the presence of love. LKM helps to heal distress

and conflict. Daily practice reduces stress and inflammation, decreases negative emotions, selfcriticism, and bias, and increases positive emotions and personal resources, including social connectedness. Benefits are long lasting, even with small doses of LKM. Conscious couples are accountable. They take personal responsibility, looking first to the ways in which they can create positive change. When feeling frustrated, irritated or annoyed with your partner, pause and look inward. Stay with difficult emotions and be curious about them rather than reacting or pushing your feelings away. Often with a little reflection we can develop a more reasonable perspective and respond from a place of wisdom rather than from a place of fear or anger. Think about the good in your partner (or the relationship) and ways you can support this goodness. Work toward seeing and accepting things for what they really are rather than making assumptions or grasping at expectations. If you would like to be more conscious in your relationship, but you are having a hard time getting started on your own, a therapist or life coach who is skilled in couples counseling or mindfulness techniques may be able to help you realize your intentions.

A Divine Union
I
first met Nathan and Kimberly in June 2012 at a shop in downtown Overland Park. Come to find out, it was Nathan’s first day in Kansas City, having just moved from Minnesota. He overheard me talking about Edgar Cayce, and before I knew it, I had met and was chatting up two amazing individuals who were setting off to celebrate their Twin-Flame journey together. We became fast friends, and I have been honored to bear witness to their story ever since: the story of divine love as expressed between two individuals. First of all, you may be wondering, what is a Twin Flame? The way I like to describe this kind of relationship is one in which two complete souls come together to fulfill the highest aspects of their masculinity and femininity. Once Twin Flames come together, they embark on a grand journey of healing, as all of their past karma, baggage and anything that is not in alignment with their highest selves is released. This type of partnership can make for an exciting and challenging adventure, and it is one that Nathan and Kimberly have met with courage and trust. Fast forward a little more than two years to October 11, 2014 , where I had the pleasure of being a part of Nathan and Kimberly’s wedding celebration, as did their whole community. Into every single aspect of this divine union, Kimberly and Nathan poured great meaning. To begin describing the many wonders of this event, it is notable that the ceremony was held outdoors, close to nature. There is nothing more connecting than celebrating the purity and cycles of a sacred union in the loving arms of Mother Earth. Guests enjoyed taking a brief meandering walk to the ceremony clearing. On their way, they were able to take in the rich autumn colors of the surrounding forest, and watch sunlight
glisten off the calm lake. Kimberly and Nathan connected to the Earth through bare feet; filling each step with cherished life force. As each person was greeted, they received a lovely program and were encouraged to share an “I am” positive affirmation with someone they did not know. What a heartfelt way to weave each individual into the community experience of celebrating love. By invoking the power of the “I am” affirmation, each guest had the opportunity to awaken and

connect with their divine. This anchored in the energy of love consistent with the sacredness of the event, and it did so for everyone present. Upon reaching the ceremonial area, guests discovered a stunning archway, constructed by Nathan himself out of wood in honor of the couple’s affinity for the Tree of Life, the symbol of the interconnectedness of life on this planet and its divine manifestation. The archway opened to a sacred circle, a medicine wheel, which represented the sealing of Nathan

and Kimberly’s union across all four directions as well as above and below. No wedding is complete without an immense dose of joy! To Kimberly, it was very clear that the wedding party would dance into the ceremony area, and dance we did! With a little help from Plumb’s song, “One Drop,” the wedding party, sharing plenty of smiles with the guests, danced with our divine. The couple’s friends were the first to dance in followed by their two children, hand in hand, laughing and smiling, waiving flowers in the air. And the finale warmed everyone’s heart, especially Nathan’s, as Kimberly radiantly came around the corner, a picture of joy in motion. She floated up to the archway on a melodic wave of angelic bliss. Then together they stood, inside the circle, the sacred medicine wheel that would seal their union. Each of them wore a wooden wedding ring that Nathan had hand carved. The couple’s vows were deeply and respectfully shared as they held hands and looked into one another’s eyes. This created a timeless quality to the ceremony as love opened up into full presence and the need for time ceased. They allowed themselves to be vulnerable, and share honestly from the depths of their being. Pronounced “As One”, they lovingly kissed and turned to their community, glowing and home. How easy it was to stick around for a while in that energy, but the celebration was not over yet. Each guest was invited to bring a dish to share at the reception. And believe me, it was the healthiest table of food I have ever seen at a wedding, bursting with color and nutrients! The community was also invited to share in song, poetry, and loving thoughts. The couple’s daughter sang beautifully, as did several friends, keeping eyes moist and hearts full. Ecstatic poet Paul Goldman eloquently shared his poem, And The Heavens, a piece of which I will quote here: “And the heavens opened anew, and She spoke the words I had longed to hear, ‘I love you my precious child, as I always have. You are the one I hoped for.’” After everyone was full of good food and good vibes, the community gathered together in a large circle surrounding Nathan and Kimberly in the center. Everyone held hands as the couple offered their gratitude and blessings back to their community. The circle of life and love was com-

plete. The divine was flowing through each heart. As the couple honored their divine union, each of us was so blessed. Thank you Evolving community, for sharing in this story of divine union. The journey will continue. As is true to what I know Kimberly and Nathan would want. I invite you to take a moment and reflect on the loving moments of your life, bringing them into the present moment. And whether in a partnership or not, reach deep inside and find that connection to your divine. Take a moment to sit with this connection, and breathe in and out, allowing the love to flow. Welcome to the divine union inside of you.

Spiritual Horoscope—by Aluna Michaels February 2015 Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) Happy birthday Aquarius! Mercury turns direct in your sign, giving you energy to clear out limited thinking. Your new level of optimism transforms your selfesteem and your relationships. It’s like a pallet cleanser for your heart. You’ll feel purified of negative experiences and the poor expectations they created. Meditate to firmly root the positive karma in your consciousness. You’ll also uplift others with your newfound Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) Meditate to receive intuitive ideas that lead to prosperity! With the powerful energy right now, you can propel out of debt and also have better health (emotionally and physically!) If doubts arise, smash them down with a firm “NO!” Be the master of your consciousness and fend off fear! Then use affirmations that strongly declare the reality you want to create. Aries (March 21 – April 19) Both Mars and Venus are in your sign this month. You’re energized to make changes and new beginnings in your relationships, self-esteem, career and health. Move out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. This might not
mean being wild, but can mean slowing down, focusing and making a commitment to a person, job or life direction. Meditate on goals to see what’s truly meaningful right now. Taurus (April 20 – May 20) Meditate on your ideal relationship. What is this person like? How do they treat you? Most importantly, ponder who you have to be in order to draw this person into your life! Even if already partnered, you can improve your bond by doing this “4th dimensional” healing. Let this be a fresh start with new karma! Also, if you feel stuck or frustrated at work, things should correct by midmonth.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Your spiritual life has been reinvigorated by Mercury retrograde (it’s not always just about challenges and misunderstandings!) Meditate on if your friends, hobbies and goals actually match your spirituality. You can attract new people who resonate with your authentic self. Follow intuitions about different ways to spend your time. Depression fades and fulfillment floods in! Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Awesome job possibilities pop up! Don’t doubt yourself or second guess your “luck” — it’s a new karmic beginning for you, so open to the good energy that awaits you! You sowed for this, and you deserve it! You’ll also have experiences that heal your heart from old wounds that limit trust in others. Release the past and embrace the love, abundance and prosperity that the present is giving you! Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) Mercury retrograde might have caused dumb arguments in relationships. Now that it’s direct, meditate on your ego and how it keeps you from joy. Ponder the saying, “How important is it?” Does your “lower self” create drama for insignificant reasons? Better to argue with the part of you that limits your fulfillment than with your partner! If single, trounce negative inner voices that make you pessimistic or overly picky. Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) Get ready for prosperity! Mars and Venus create new avenues for money flow! They also cause sexy sparks that begin a new relationship, or re-ignite passion in a current one. In order to enjoy what the Universe has in store, commit to your own self-care. Take breaks. Breathe deeply often. Practice yoga. Eat nourishing meals. Protect your mind from worry. Dwell on positive thoughts. Now you’re prepared for bliss! Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) You’ll have breakthroughs in relationships! Even if struggling for the past two years, the energy changes and you’ll feel clear and healed. An issue resolves between you, or if single for awhile, you’ll meet someone who renews your faith in love! Children can be a source of inspiration, as can any artistic or creative outlet. Even pets can play the role of healer. Meanwhile, meditate to release disap-

pointments, so you’re open for happiness! Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) How does the past cause you stress? As a Scorpio, releasing old experiences is more important than any other sign. Your energy gets blocked from repressed anger, buried disappointments and unacknowledged fear. Meditate and become willing to forgive these yucky memories. Ask the Universe to remove them from your consciousness. You’ll have more energy and be able to handle problems effortlessly. You’ll be healthy and happy! Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) Working with affirmations and creative visualization pays off! Mars and Venus bring healthy, happy relationships to you. You can also get a job offer doing something you love — working can be fun! It’s a good time to heal difficulties with siblings or close friends. Reach out with an open heart and old rifts melt away. Also start a new sport, or maybe dance classes. Be playful and enjoy life! Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) Meditate for divinely inspired ideas about finances. As Mercury goes direct mid-month, you’ll manifest the concepts, or at least make big strides in your plan. It’s a perfect time to organize your house and purge things you don’t need or use. This stimulates even more abundance! While you’re at it, rid your brain of mean thoughts about yourself so you’ll have better self-esteem!
