Publisher’s Letter...

Contents Dear Friend,

Four years ago I moved into a tiny home in the country. My thinking was that I would downsize, recycle, sell, and donate most of my possessions to live a more simple life and have the freedom to travel. And for the most part that has been the case. But what I’ve found is that in order to live a minimalist life it takes continually, well, minimalizing. Because somehow, whether there’s space or not, I kept accumulating. Not much, and it’s more clutter than anything—mostly notebooks filled with notes from my travels. Then I found a wooden drop-leaf table at a garage sale. The last thing I needed was one more item to place in my limited space, but yet this table would provide me with a dining table and a sewing table—both of which would enhance my home life. If I could just find the space. Refinishing the table was the easy part because after I’d finished I realized I would need to do some serious decluttering and reorganizing to make room for this piece. I went through four years of notes, cleared the old, and created a fresh new space. Home. You can feel the energy created when clutter is released. Now my office feels inviting and conducive to its purpose of creating—both the magazine and my travel writing. While I was reading through my notes I found scribblings from a phone call with a shaman. He told me four years ago that my travels, rather than being a metaphor for running away, were a way for me to express myself through travel and then return home renewed and more focused on my work here. He said I would see this tiny home as a retreat, a place to recharge when I returned from my travels. He was right. I had forgotten about his advice from so many years ago; but by clearing space, releasing clutter, and creating home (the topic of this month’s edition), I found a renewed zest for my living space and my work. In addition to our physical homes, our bodies are homes as well. In this issue, Melissa Saubers shares her story of authentic living through sobriety. It’s a powerful lesson I felt drawn to share. Whether it’s for your dwelling place or your body, I hope you find inspiration in these pages for creating a home.

Wisdom Within

How to Ease the Pain of Guilt

Culture of Peace BY JUDE LACLAIRE, PH.D.

P

eace can be an inner state of tranquility or an outer experience of order, safety, or good relationships. If you look at a typical day in your life, I expect you will see interactions with family members, colleagues, friends, or neighbors. You might experience conflict, peaceful negotiations, gossip, criticism, humor, praise, pessimistic perspectives, or hopeful conversations. At the end of the day, you reflect on your own sense of anxiety, inner conflict, peace, or harmony. Chaos and trauma are the daily experience of some. Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls by Rachel Simmons highlights the experience of many children, pre-school through adolescence, who suffer from bullying or who bully others. This is just one area where safety and calm are not experienced. At every level of your life, the dynamics of discord or harmony are always present. Could the solutions for your inner peace, harmony with people in your daily life and global peace be similar? Many wellknown peace activists, writers and researchers speak of creating the “culture of peace.” Ghandi’s famous statement, “Become the change you wish to see,” has become a mantra for many generations. The UNESCO constitution states, “Since wars begin in the mind of men (women), it is in the minds of men (women) that the defense of peace must be constructed.” Ambassador Anwarulk K. Chowdhury, United Nations Under-Secretary-General, defines the ‘culture of peace.’ “To me, a culture of peace is a set of values, attitudes and ways of life based on the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, respect for diversity, dialogue and understanding. The objective of a culture of peace is the empowerment of people.” The attitudes, values and life path supporting peace that begin in your mind and heart are empowering. You then connect with others, respecting differences, open to dialogue. These interpersonal dialogues become the bedrock of the larger dialogue in the society on political, social and economic levels. We are the building blocks of the structure of societal peace. Inner peace, interpersonal peace and societal peace all face similar challenges. Cognitive distortions cloud the mirror of

BY SUZETTE SCHOLTES

reality. According to Michael Yapko, Breaking the Patterns of Depression, the most common distortions include things like:  All-or-none thinking (either/or)  Overgeneralization  Selective perception (see what we want to see, hear, etc.)  Disqualifying the positive  Jumping to conclusions  Magnification (catastrophizing) or minimization (trivializing)  Emotional reasoning  Labeling and mislabeling  Personalization  Belief that things happen because of something outside myself  Belief that things and people will never change  Global attribution (one event is characterized as a global event, e.g. Chicken Little) It would be a good exercise to review the cognitive distortions. Ask yourself if these mental distortions are affecting the way you think, act and behave. Take some time to think of ways you can realign yourself with your deepest values and beliefs. Instead of watching the news, plant your garden, talk to a friend or write a thank you card. Instead of listing the tragedies of your life and the world situation, write a list of things you are grateful for and share it with a friend. When you find yourself immersed in a negative thought, think of what you want to see happen and imagine that. If you have an unresolved resentment, heal that now. Continue to dialogue with understanding and compassion. Live in the present moment of life knowing that all possibilities are here for you now. Let’s wage peace each day with the power of our presence, our thoughts and actions, creating a personal and global culture of peace.

G

uilt is not a genuine emotion but made by humankind! When a therapist helped me to understand this a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. The genuine emotions, the professor of psychology said, are “intricacies” of Mad, Sad, Glad, and Afraid. Society sometimes encourages us to put on a poker face; but, stuffing our emotions makes us sick. It is important to feel what we feel either by talking it through with a trusted friend or writing in a journal. It goes deeper. Often feelings of anxiety or even depression come from “stuffing” unrecognized feelings of anger. Often this anger is defined as a feeling we do not have the right to own. For example, how can I feel angry at my sick mother who “guilts” me into spending time with her when I really want to be home? With the ethic to do no harm, the motivation to either “do good” to ourselves (it is proper to do what is right for yourself!) and others, or to have a neutral impact on others, will be at the forefront of all our actions. Most injury to others, with its subsequent guilt, will not occur. With the ethic of placing responsibility where it belongs, we are standing accountable and allowing others the same privilege. If you feel guilt, reflect on the deeper feelings. Most often there is a wave of anger or hurt or even shame beneath it. If you feel tired all the time that may be another clue you are suppressing anger or guilt. In yoga, we train the brain to observe the nature of the thoughts and feelings. All human kind has the same raw materials: thoughts, feelings, attitudes, choices, and beliefs. It’s what we do with these materials that make all the difference. Avoid labeling a feeling as bad or wrong or too negative. It’s refusing to admit to these feelings that becomes harmful to self. We are human. We hurt, we fear, we doubt. Trust deepens as we become more and more aware of our deepest emotions. When life “works” we feel alive and enthusiastic in all areas of health, play, career, and love. Yet, it takes courage: the courage to follow your voice, your feelings, and your true self. Love grows with deep and personal intimacy and honesty. Our self-love, selfrespect and self-value flourishes when we

own genuine emotions.. Once the skill is learned, it becomes a habit.

Steps to Healing Guilt l. Convert it to anger. 2. Do not project the anger—own it. When anger comes up talk it through with a friend or journal your honest feelings. Layers of hurt, fear, and shame can dissolve and heal. 3. Say No. Three times this month my good friend and I put off lunch because of other priorities. When we start to feel overwhelmed, “no” becomes the magic word. 4. Forgive yourself. The process of forgiveness begins with self to make deeper and broader change. In time, we may or not choose to forgive the person (s) who hurt us. 5. Decide that you don’t like to suffer and begin to challenge the beliefs that make you suffer. (Watch out! You are likely to feel guilty for challenging the beliefs that are causing the problem! Guilt is a tricky adversary; when it comes up, just say “No.”) 6. Understand. If it’s not good for you, it’s not good for someone else, either. 7. Let Go. Let live. Let it be. Don’t dwell on mistakes or injuries. Each day is a new day and a new opportunity. Don’t live in the past because it no longer exists. Be the best you can be, each day, and be in the moment.

Holistic Health

What Are the Real Causes for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? BY NANCY RUSSELL, M.D.

F

atigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex and difficult health issue to get to the root of the problem and treat. CFS is a very real illness. There are usually several initiating factors, contributing factors and underlying issues. The most common symptoms of CFS include: exhaustion after even mild activity, insomnia, achiness, forgetfulness, brain fog, recurrent infections, increased thirst, bowel disorders, weight gain and low libido. CFS can be overcome, in most cases with a complete evaluation and treatment. A typical presentation is something like this. “I wake up tired after I’m in bed all night, I wake up tired after a nap. I took a 10 day vacation and came home tired. I’m tired all the time, really tired. Any increase in activity makes me worse when exercise used to make me better. I can’t think straight and I feel like I’m losing my mind.” A theory about CFS is that it stems from the “blown fuse” of an overloaded hypothalamus in the brain. The body goes into “slow” mode until the energy crisis is properly treated. As Jacob Teitelbaum states in his book, “Real Cause, Real Cure” he calls his treatment for CFS the SHINE protocol, an acronym for: Sleep restoration, Hormonal support, Infection treatment, Nutrition and Exercise (as able). Poor sleep is a primary symptom of CFS and treating the insomnia is critical in healing this condition. If you snore and have daytime sleepiness, not just tiredness, ask for an overnight sleep study to be obtained. Sleep apnea must be adequately treated to obtain optimal, restorative sleep. If sleep apnea is ruled out, then your sleep center is not working and several sleep aids may be needed. During the first six months of treating CFS, you may need a combination of low doses of herbal, homeopathic, amino acids and prescription medications to achieve the needed 8 hours of sleep per night. These sleep aids include: valerian, passion flower, hops, theanine, gaba support and possibly zolpidem, trazodone, gabapentin, clonazepam, and pregablalin. Over the counter medications such as doxylamine or diphenhydramine can also be effective. You can probably stop taking sleep medications after 6 to 18 months of treatment of

feeling well. But you may need a natural sleep aid more long term, particularly under periods of stress, to make sure you don’t relapse. Hormonal balancing is controlled by the hypothalamus in the brain, so when your hypothalamus isn’t up to par, all kinds of hormone imbalances can occur. Evaluation of thyroid, adrenal and sex hormones need to be assessed. Even is your hormones are in the normal range, the levels may need to be augmented into the upper ranges of normal to feel optimal. This includes T-4 and T-3 thyroid hormones, cortisol and DHEA adrenal hormones, and sex hormones such as estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Most people with CFS have weakened immune systems, resulting in multiple chronic infections. These can be viral infections, such as Epstein Barr virus, parasite, bacterial, or candida infections in the intestines, as well as Lyme disease. Candida is the most common infection and is treated with an anti -candida diet, probiotics and herbal and/or prescription anti fungal medications. CFS patients need optimal daily nutrition which can be achieved by Dr Teitelbaum’s Energy Revitalization Formula, a multinutrient powder of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino

acids. D-ribose is a healthful sugar compound that plays a role in the manufacture of RNA and DNA, and is a key building block of cellular energy. The main energy molecules in your body, ATP, NADH, and FADH are made of ribose, plus B vitamins and phosphate. Ribose is taken in powder form at 5 grams 3 times a day for 3 weeks then 2 times a day. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to see a boost in energy. Get started today to regain your health back from CFS. Find ways to sleep, eat healthy, balance hormones, find and treat hidden infections and add nutritional support. Seek the aid of Functional Medicine Practitioner or Integrative physician to diagnose and treat your condition.

Universal Grief—Creating Personal and Public Altars BY TRACI BRAY

W

hen grieving the loss of a loved one, person, or pet, everything feels different. Energy shifts. Things smell different. Even the air we breathe seems noteworthy. Individuals who have shared a home with a person who has passed will say, “It just didn’t feel the same,” when walking back into their home for the first time. Most people seem to long for that sameness. Yet, at heart, creating something new in that energetically opened space from where the dead soul has exited or transitioned or passed — whatever the term—presents as a desirable opportunity. A variety of approaches exist. “Whatever works” might be a safe motto assigned to people following the death of someone close to them. For those that do not wish for things to feel or remain the same, this shift may not be understood, yet is best respected. A client told me about arriving at her mother’s home hours after her father had died to find her mother with boxes and plastic garbage bags, emptying the father’s closet. The mother was nearing the end of her task and had not only kept nothing for herself, but also not separated any articles for the client and her sibling to keep or wear. The client was horrified, as her mother appeared joyful and relieved. Although perhaps a wide water to bridge, respect builds a strong foundation. In contrast, some people create shrines of things related to their loved one. Commonly, a space on a tabletop or mantle is used to display groupings which may include a vessel with cremains, photographs, written notes such as funeral programs, and endeared related items. My own shrine for my departed father includes a photo of him and his oldest brother as youngsters, the last group photo taken with his then-living siblings. Also there are some antique nails he gave me as well as iron sheep and cow bells. I so love the little acorn I picked up near his grave some time ago that poses in the setting. Whatever is personal to you is what works. There are times when family members and loved ones have concerns regarding

“Public expressions of grief in the form of shrines are becoming increasingly visible in the United States, particularly those created at auto accidents.” the breadth of such shrines. Another client reported going to a home of a family member following the death of that person’s spouse. She described, “Not a single space in the living room or dining room was spared from his shirts that had been mounted in frames, his brush, comb, toothbrush, and used tube of toothpaste, along with aftershave on a silver tray, photo after photo….nearly anything you could imagine.” In fact the client tripped over a row of the man’s collection of boots lined up near the front doorway and had to move a stack of his blue jeans from the sofa in order to sit down. The living family member reported that the “...stuff makes me feel as if he’s right here with me,” and continued that she could feel the tips of his fingers (in shape) as she picked up the toothpaste. As the client would check in with her mother on the shrine status as time proceeded, her mother did not seem to desire to move forward out of that space, either in shifting the objects or in controlling the clutter. Although the degree and quantity to which the elder woman arranged relics is unique, the

desire to hold on to objects is not. Certainly, safety from fire and tripping hazards must be adhered to. Public expressions of grief in the form of shrines are becoming increasingly visible in the United States, particularly those created at auto accidents. Crosses, teddy bears, hats and other memorabilia are placed at the sites of a death often within hours of occurrence. States including Colorado and Wyoming erected laws to contain and curtail public shrines along roadways and highways. This was done for a variety of reasons to include aesthetic value and safety of not only of those glancing in passing at the shrines, but drivers stopping on the roadway to either view from their vehicle or to get out for a visit. Such shrines are known as descansos, or resting places, especially in the Southwestern United States. The custom of marking the place of death with a small cross was brought to Mexico by Spanish colonists. In the Kansas City area, when a death involving a bicycle occurs, a bike painted white and termed a “ghost bike” is placed

EVOLVING…IN KANSAS CITY

at the site as both a memorial that symbolizes a cyclist’s life lost and a reminder to drivers to be more careful. At scenes of violent death likewise, shrines appear including photos of the victim taped to light posts with flowers placed at the base. Following world known designer Kate Spade’s death in New York City, June of 2018, her Kansas City Plaza storefront displayed a number of bouquets of flowers on the sidewalk outside the front door. These public expressions harken to Victorian times in Great Britain. Perhaps the most noteworthy outdoor altars occurred in London, England at the gates of both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace and at Westminster Abbey where the funeral took place. Fresh flowers from loose blooms to full bouquets and sprays, photographs, cards, notes and original art were left by the thousands. Perhaps this display created by individuals represents a collective grief and establishes a united response. In summary, from small to large, altars bring survivors a knowingness of memory, but also a sense of spirit near of the soul that has passed. They take a variety of shapes and sizes physically, yet for some, remain in the mind. We are an amalgamation of peoples with an individualized sense of how death is done. As in life, judging the altars of the dead, particularly those built by those we love, is perhaps not in our best interest, while letting-it-be is. Living Alcohol Free One Woman's Journey to Empowerment through Sobriety

2

Years! Never in a million years would I have thought that I would now be more than two years free from alcohol. The last time I drank was at The Cure concert on June 8, 2016. Two years later and I’m happier than ever and 100 percent committed to living this way for the rest of my life. It’s not a struggle to live alcohol-free: I’m not triggered, I don’t feel like I’m taking it “one day at a time,” I don’t feel like I’m missing out, I don’t feel like there is something wrong with me or that I have a disease. I know, with my whole heart, that this was the best decision that I could have ever made for myself. Many people have asked me many questions over the last two years so I thought I would post answers to those questions in hopes of helping someone else who may be feeling like I used to feel—alone and without hope. I don’t feel like that anymore. It can get better, there are many ways to get there— you can change the direction of your life at any moment. Q: Why did you stop drinking alcohol? A: It was getting in the way of me living my best life. But I didn’t know that at the time. I just knew that drinking alcohol was not fun anymore and had actually turned into being a really miserable way to live; but I kept on drinking for a long time after I knew it wasn’t serving me anymore because it was so ingrained in my life. I couldn’t figure out how to get it out, how to stop. I thought maybe I should just slow down, not drink so much. So I tried that for a very long time, but it never worked for me. There are so many opportunities to drink in a normal life. I couldn’t get away from it and along the way, I figured out that I don’t have the “off switch.” And our society doesn’t make it easy for someone who chooses not to drink; everything has alcohol at the forefront these days.

BY MELISSA SAUBERS

times I was drinking in a week to others I would not have thought anything was that unusual. But when I realized that my intention to drink had changed and it was starting to have negative effects in my life, that’s when I knew it wasn’t benefiting me anymore. Q: What were your fears about quitting? A: I was scared to quit because I thought I’d be boring, that I would lose all of my friends, no one would want to hang out with me, no one would invite me to things. I would be an outcast, I would feel awkward and “other” people would think I “had a problem,” that I couldn’t “handle my alcohol.” When I first quit, I did feel all of those things, but when I finally owned this new way of living, then I realized, most of the time, those things aren’t true. And after learning more about alcohol I realized that it’s actually a drug and I don’t have to “handle it.” Q: What benefits have you seen from quitting alcohol? A: There are so many...

#1 NO HANGOVERS, ever! I get so much done now, every single day. I have so much energy. I never waste-a-day-away dealing with the aftereffects of a night of partying. #2 Better Mental Health—Alcohol is a depressant and increases anxiety. I could quote some actual science about this but instead, I will just tell you that when I was drinking my depression was very intense and my anxiety was sky high, especially the day after. After a few months off alcohol, I was able to stop taking antidepressants and my anxiety went away. I still have moments of my mood dropping quickly (hello lack of Vitamin D) and moments when my anxiety creeps back in, but overall I’m better able to manage them when they do appear. #3 Developing Healthy Coping Techniques— I’m not perfect, I’m a work in progress. But now I try to use better coping techniques for So at first, I tried moderation. I would when I’m stressed—and most of the time make up rules to help me: they work. Yoga, meditation, exercise, journaling, spending time in nature and with “I won’t drink during the week.” friends, seeing a therapist, etc. “I will only drink on special occasions.” #4 New Friends—If you would have told me “I will only drink one drink so I’ll make it the that I would have a whole new group of best one money can buy,” e.g., a $10/glass of wonderful new friends I would never have wine”... then $40 later… believed you. I thought I’d be a lonely person I would make promises to myself, then for the rest of my life. But I have found my break them, then beat myself up. It was a tribe and it’s growing and I’m oh so grateful. vicious, vicious cycle. And I still have all of my old, dear friends, we just do different things together. Q: How much were you drinking before you #5 New Interests—I’ve discovered what truly quit? lights me up. Yoga is therapy for my body, A: I think this is the wrong question to ask mind, and spirit. Meditation helps keep me someone who has quit drinking. It’s not calm and less reactive. Exercise, I actually always about the quantity but more about enjoy moving and getting stronger every the intention behind the drinking. If I had day. compared the amount or the number of

June 2016 right before I stopped drinking. #6 Better Physical Health—When drinking alcohol I was bloated, achy, and every time I ate something there was a science experiment going on in my gut. My sleep was interrupted and I was tired all the time. Alcohol was actually poisoning me (it is a toxin, after all). #7 Extreme Clarity—I started to feel this at around four months and have really been feeling this over the past year. It has helped me make some much needed changes in my life.

Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to cut back or quit alcohol altogether? A: First, I’d say, you’re not alone. I thought I was. Since I quit drinking and I’ve been open about quitting so many people have reached out to me to tell me they are miserable drinking alcohol but they aren’t sure how to eliminate it from their lives. I totally get this. What I’ve come to realize through this process is that there is a spectrum of alcohol use and misuse. On one end of the spectrum are those who can take it or leave it or just drink one and on the other end of the spectrum, there are people who struggle not to drink every day for the rest of their lives. Then there is the rest of us in the middle, most of us are in the middle, in the “gray” area of drinking—those of us questioning our relationship with drinking and whether it’s worth it or not. The first questions you should ask yourself are: Would your life be better off without alcohol? How is alcohol serving you, how is it benefitting your life? I suggest doing this exercise. Take out a

Use Smudging to Create Sacred Space BY MAYA ZAHIRA

S

mudging is the ancient practice of using plants and herbs to ward off evil spirits and clear the energy in a particular place. In today's world we call it energy clearing, to create a sacred space.

How Did Smudging Start? Native Americans believed that by burning sage and other plants, it would ward off evil spirits and provide safety and protection for them. They believed that the plant gives up its life so that they could use the smoke for prayers and cleansing. The aroma produced by these plants would transcend them in a different state of mind, bringing them into a deeper part of their souls. They believed that when they opened up in this ceremony, it would bring insights, give them a stronger sense of direction, enhance their intuition and awaken their soul’s desires. “A blessing is a circle of light drawn around a person to protect, heal and strengthen,” says John O’Donahue. As it turns out, the apparent benefits are richly steeped in science---when burned, sage and other herbs release negative ions, which research has linked to a more positive mood. Burning resins (such as frankincense and myrrh) is also an ancient practice done to raise the spiritual vibration through the sense of smell, as well as aiding in healing, grounding and stress. (When it's windy, do you notice that you are more irritable? That's because when the wind blows, positive ions are released, and they adversely affect our mental and emotional well-being.) Here are some of the most common plants that are used for smudging. Although sage is the most common, you can smudge very efficiently and specifically based on what you want to accomplish. (Some of the more resin-based items above are best done on charcoal tablets, so please research what is the safest way to smudge.) If you are able to purchase your herbs from a Native American community, do so. It helps maintain the integrity and sacredness of the plant and the ceremony. 1. Sage is used for cleansing, purifying and healing...to “wash off” the residue of

the outside world and create a sacred space when one enters ceremony or other spiritual space. 2. Cedar is a medicine of protection. Cedar trees are old, wise and powerful spirits. Cedar is often used to cleanse a home or apartment when first moving in, clearing unwanted spirits and protecting a person, place or object from them. 3. Sweetgrass (also called Seneca grass, holy grass and vanilla grass) is called “the breath of Mother Earth” bringing the blessing of Mother Earth's love. Sweetgrass is burned to remind us of essence of the feminine and that the earth provides us with everything we need.

4. Lavender is a native of Europe often used for invitation of the spirits--calling in angels, archangels, religious leaders (like Jesus, Buddha, Confucius, Krishna, etc.) and other spirits of the light.

The smudging process begins with purification of the body and mind. Start 5. Copal's smoke has an earthy fragrance with a healthy body, pure thought and pure intention. Place the bundle of herbs similar to Frankincense and is used to on a shell, ceramic plate, charcoal tablet bless, cleanse and heal the person or obor other fireproof surface. A bowl with sand can be used to extinguish the smudge stick after smudging. Then, go outside and sprinkle the ashes of the herb on the doorstep to protect the entrance. It is believed that your intentions and prayers are carried to Creator through the smoke, bringing in clarity and vision induced by the aroma of what is being burned. The process helps open the mind, soul and senses, which helps bring us into a different state of mind. This can awaken us to gain new direction. Positive spiritual beings are said to like the scent of the plants and are drawn to them, opening a doorway for them to help you!

Spiritual Horoscope

July Horoscope Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Happy birthday Cancer! It’s a powerful month with a New Moon eclipse in your sign. It also connects with Pluto, the planet of personal empowerment, so you can tap into strengths you didn’t know you had. Meditate on how you over-nurture others, and deplete yourself. Also ponder financial habits so you can erase debt and build prosperity. By facing fears of being alone, you also tap into energy that, ironically, enhances all your relationships. You’ll know your value and “power issues” will heal as you stand in your center with love! Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) The Full Moon eclipse this month connects with energetic Mars. Meditate on your most important goals. You’ll find courage and enthusiasm to go after your dreams and to make them reality. Mars is also anger and irritation, so watch out for being edgy as you move forward. Are there people who don’t like you finding power and joy and living from that space? You may have to stand up to them with clarity and confidence (Mars). Reach out to positive, encouraging friends who believe change and fulfillment is possible! Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) As Jupiter moves direct, you’ll have many insights in meditation. Your intuition is super-charged! Make a list of attitudes or circumstances you’d like to change. Visualize the shifts, and also feel how it would be to live in this new way. Take steps toward your goals, and keep the feeling of their full completion in your heart. Only tell trusted friends about your plans since it’s important others don’t poo-poo your concepts. Protect your ideas from criticism as you nurture them with faith and love.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) Money flows as Jupiter moves direct! You’ll also be motivated toward career goals. If healing childhood issues or long-standing problems, meditation provides breakthroughs. Let old ideas uproot. Visualize burning them like sticks in a bonfire. The energy from that mental liberation heals your heart and open new doors of fulfillment. Even if you must confront others and cause disruption as you

speak your truth, let change happen so you can be free to be your authentic self! Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) Jupiter, the planet of joy and abundance, moves direct in your sign! You deserve to have it easy and not struggle, so meditate on letting go of your attachment to suffering. You can have financial breakthroughs or a deeper sense of “emotional prosperity”. Inner guidance can also lead to healing childhood trauma or another issue that makes you feel unsafe in the world. Become conscious of any negative thoughts loops that play in the background of your mind. The light of your awareness can make them melt away! Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21) The New Moon eclipse opens you to deeper intimacy. Meditate on how your fervent idealism can build a wall between you and others. Challenge yourself to be in your heart and “feel” your opinions rather than merely think them. Sometimes your spirituality is tinged with ego. Don’t waste time beating yourself up if you find this to be true. Just surround yourself with forgiveness, and allow relationships to heal and unfold. Interestingly, dropping dogmatic attitudes can also open doors to prosperity! Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) This month’s eclipses can heal relationships. The New Moon mid-July exposes problems to be worked on. Pluto links with it, so meditate on power issues. Low self-esteem allows you to be treated poorly? Or perhaps built up resentments make you take subtle “digs” at your partner? The Full

Moon at month’s end reveal subconscious patterns behind your issues — from childhood or even past lives. Grasp them by the root and eliminate them from your life! Don’t be ashamed or dwell, just be grateful you see them and are able to be rid of toxic patterns. Now you can bond in joy and love! Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) Just like your Capricorn pals, the eclipses bring disruption in relationships, so yucky patterns can be exposed and disposed of! Meditate on compassion for yourself others. You’re all hurting when stuck in limiting patterns. Ask for their accountability— kindly, yet clearly. It’s like a breath of fresh air moves through your life. As Jupiter moves direct, lots of blessings happen at work and a dream job can even appear. Your success emerges from hard work and integrity. You deserve all the “luck” coming your way! Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) The Full Moon eclipse at month’s end stirs up old anger and frustrations. So, meditate earlier in July about how you’ve bottled up feelings over the past two years. Forgive yourself and others so the eclipse brings resolution and forward momentum rather than an explosion of suppressed energy. Underneath your tension lies vital energy for health, happiness and talents. Let people who respect your boundaries get close to you. Allowing them in, even when you feel anxious or unworthy, opens you to the love of the Universe! Aries (March 21 – April 19) Jupiter moves direct and helps open the floodgates of prosperity! You’ll also feel safer being intimate with your partner, both physically and emotionally. Meditate on how childhood or parental issues have interfered with deep relationships today. This month’s eclipses bring insight and resolution. If you have power issues with someone at work, sit back and observe behavior and patterns

Allow your intuition to provide solutions. Don’t take actions now, but maybe early September. Taurus (April 20 – May 20) As Jupiter moves direct, communication in relationships will clarify. You can solve problems in a longterm partnership. If single, you can meet a great new person who is eager to be involved with you. Don’t be afraid to state your needs and expectations. Meditate on how valid your opinions are. Be with people that honor your ideas and want to know who you are at your core. The eclipse late July can bring disruption at work. In that arena, stay cool, observe and make responses later in August. Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Jupiter going direct combined with this month’s eclipses brings insight about money, as well as an increase in your self-worth in the work force. Meditate on ways you selfsabotage with finances or undervalue your career talents. Trust in intimate relationships also gets better, since you’re seeing yourself more clearly and with love. You’re pretty awesome, and you’re figuring that out!
