Fields of application: The vacuum belt filter (VBF) is used for the filtration of fluids by means of endless filter fabrics. A further application is the dewatering of sludges. Possible purposes of use include e.g. the filtration of cooling lubricants, washing and process water, wastewater or sludges containing mineral particles. No consumables are produced which would be costly to purchase and dispose of later. The filter is made of stainless steel, thus a long service life is reached and a wide and varied range of applications is possible as well. Due to the exclusively mechanical cleaning no chemical changes of the medium are caused. Therefore the unit is also particularly appropriate for media which are circulated.

Example of a vacuum belt filter plant shown as 3-D-CAD drawing and also ....

... as already installed plant.

Unlike hydrostatic filters the advantage of a vacuum belt filter is that it works with the aid of vacuum. Therefore a higher flow rate as well as a better dewatering of the filter cake can be reached. The filtration occurs via filter fabrics of stainless steel. Optionally filter belts of plastic are also available. A float switch controls the belt transport and the filter cake is removed with a scraper blade. Branches of industry: · · · · ·

Functional principle: The filtration / dewatering is done by gravity, vacuum-assisted. Through the vacuum a higher flow rate as well as a better dewatering of the filter cake can be reached.

The wastewater flows into the filter from above, and gets evenly distributed over the entire filter width. The filter belt is fed into the wastewater area from the bottom. The filtration takes place on an inclined plane. Whereas the actual filtration is performed within the lower part of the filter belt, the dewatering of the filter cake happens within the upper part. During filtration the filter belt retains the pollutant particles, a filter cake forms. Thus the flow resistance increases and the water level rises. The drive is switched on once a certain water level is exceeded. The filter belt together with the filter cake is then pulled upward, the cake is stripped off and falls down into the sludge tank. Afterwards the belt is cleaned by means of a brush roller and a flushing device. At the same time a clean filter belt section is drawn into the wastewater area at the bottom end of the filter plane. On this section there is no filter cake (not yet), so the water drains more quickly again, the level sinks and the belt transport stops. A side channel blower constantly sucks air out of the filter chamber, thus creating a slight vacuum at the filtrate side.

Filter belt supply from bottom -> the belt is loaded with sediment first Flotation tailings are extracted together with the sediment at the discharge side -> optimal use of filter belt Inclined plane -> therefore a well drained filter cake Filter cake is removed from the belt -> no consumables Filter made of stainless steel -> long life, even corrosive media possible Hardly any wear parts –> low maintenance Belt flushing either with fresh water or filtrate Compact unit, instantly ready for use Vacuum-assisted filtration -> better dewatering of the filter cake, higher flow rate Gentle filtration / dewatering of the filter cake When using flocculants insensitive to fluctuations in the kind and amount of solids Fully automatic operation, no permanent interference or monitoring by the operators required In case of small amounts of sludge to be treated also usable as an alternative to belt or chamber filter presses / decanters In case of small amounts of wastewater to be treated also usable as a combination of sedimentation and sludge dewatering
