SCHOOL GROUP TOURS K-Grade 12 Fee: Admission is FREE for pre-registered, accredited schools or homeschool groups of 10 or more K-12 students. Free admission includes teachers and bus drivers, plus one additional adult chaperone per every five students. Additional chaperones pay the group admission rate of $6/person. Contact site for non-Indiana student rate. Pre-registration required at least two weeks in advance. Available April and May 2022! Teachers who register their students for an onsite visit will receive a self-guided tour packet. This packet will allow teachers and chaperones to guide their students along the site’s historic canal with a focus on the locks, canal boat and aqueduct. UNDERSTANDING THE PURPOSE OF CANALS Grades 3 – 12 2021 dates: Dec. 14 2022 dates: Jan. 11, Feb. 8, March 8 10:30 - 11 a.m. Pre-registration is required at least one week in advance. The use of canals in the early 19th-century was important to the growth of the United States. Built between 1836 and 1847, the Whitewater Canal was meant to bring Indiana’s goods and produce to a wider audience. Students will learn how the canal was engineered using locks and an aqueduct bridge to cross the hilly terrain of southeastern Indiana. Indiana Academic Standards
