EAGS EASTERN

PUSHING THE STANDARD

EWU is evolving to help you get ahead. Choose from innovative college programs that lead to longlasting careers and high-paying salaries. Restore habitats right on campus, solve problems affecting cities and people, and use your experiences to help you thrive.

No wonder The New York Times ranked EWU as a top college for social mobility.

Watch the full interview with Hannah Heimbigner and other current students in the EWU lookbook.

STUDENT PROFILE

HANNAH HEIMBIGNER

Spokane, WA | Creative Writing

I came on a tour to Eastern in my senior year of high school, and I just felt at home. And ever since then, it’s just been a really fun experience. I’ve met a lot of people. I’ve gotten a job here. I fell in love with the creative writing program here.

One of my professors does a yearly trip. Last year we went to the Oregon Coast and then to Mt. Rainer. I think everyone produced work that was just more creative than they even imagined. We’re going to Yellowstone this year, so I’m really excited to get to do that again.

After college, I plan to go into journalism. The classes I’ve taken so far, even as a sophomore or a freshman, have already prepared me a lot. I’ve gotten to learn interviewing skills and how to publish work.

REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE

Employers, graduate schools and community leaders all say the same thing: EWU students have hands-on experience that makes them well prepared to tackle the demands of the workplace.

That’s why companies come to campus to recruit you. With the state’s second-largest city just minutes from campus, most EWU students have internships or part-time jobs that help them get a head start on their career.

ALUMNI IN ACTION

Many EWU graduates are succeeding in careers with wellknown companies, working in critical positions both locally and across the world.

ALUMNI PROFILE DANIEL GARCIA

Quincy, WA | Finance and Economics

I wanted to follow in my brother’s footsteps — the first in our family to go to college — and come to Eastern. My first year, I was a part of the CAMP program. Their mandatory study sessions really helped me stay focused and pass courses to move forward.

After that, I got super involved on campus. I worked in both the Rec Center and Eagle Store. Being involved, I was able to make so many friends and, with those friends, come different experiences.

Eastern’s Career Center provided the opportunity to find the position that I currently hold at Washington Trust Bank. I worked with them to find career paths and opportunities that I was actually interested in. I now hope to share my education and teach financial literacy to underserved communities.”

UNIQUE TO EWU

The state’s newest science building has high-tech labs, a state-of-the-art vivarium and a cadaver lab. Step inside to gain the research skills and experiences you’ll need in the job market.

ewu.edu/isc

EWU’s Prairie Restoration project is restoring 100+ acres of campus farmland to its original prairie condition, creating a “living laboratory” where you can research, trail run, and improve the environment.

ewu.edu/prairie

The Catalyst, EWU’s center in Spokane, is the region’s first zero-energy building, a facility where you can work directly with local business and industry experts.

HANDS-ON RESEARCH

What’s it like to study at EWU? You’ll have hands-on experiences in the field. Whether you’re in biology, education or psychology, you’ll take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-world settings.

You’ll study in the state’s newest science buildings, one-of-a-kind field labs and research facilities, and classrooms built for your success. These opportunities will set you apart from students at other colleges.

You’ll work with talented faculty who encourage you to ask tough questions, perform crucial research, solve problems and improve life for people around the world.

EWU is one of only three universities in the country with a classroom in a national wildlife refuge.

STUDY ABROAD WITH EWU

Design your education to fit your journey. EWU’s study abroad team helps ensure you can apply financial aid to your study abroad experiences and transfer your credits when you come back to campus.

Choose an international experience, or choose to stay a little closer to home and study away in the United States.

STUDENT PROFILE ARIAH ROMERO

Toppenish, WA | Applied Developmental Psychology

In the Psychology department, the professors really want to help you. They see a future in you. So once you make that connection, they are going to be your biggest cheerleaders. It’s nice knowing I have that support here.

At a bigger school you can just be a number in a classroom. But with Eastern, professors are going to want to know about your passions. They want to know about your hopes and dreams. And they are going to be your supporter and push you to be the best that you could be.

ADVENTURE TIME

20 MIN. DRIVE

Spokane is the second-largest city in Washington. It has everything students love: nightlife, shopping, Apple and Nike stores, an international airport, movie theaters, museums, cafes, restaurants, parks, art galleries, sports teams, concerts, light shows and farmers markets in the heart of downtown.

BONUS: your student ID acts as a free bus pass direct from campus to downtown and back, and all around Spokane, too!

20-40 MIN. DRIVE

Mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, hiking and biking trails, wildlife, waterfalls: the region is gorgeous, and our four seasons guarantee amazing outdoor experiences year round.

Eastern’s EPIC Adventures is one of the most popular and wellrun outdoor adventure programs in the country.

Every weekend, students rock/ice climb, kayak, paddle board, raft, bike, hike, backpack, camp, swim, ski and more. If it’s adventure and it’s outdoors, you can do it near EWU.
