02.03.01 Constructive features
Today´s modern farming activity must perfectly coordinate the following factors to achieve its goals: Facilities, equipment, genetics, and human equipment. One of EXAFAN´s main concern is making the facilities provide the animals with the maximum climate control comfort possible; this allows us reaching the desired production level at the same time along with a comfortable scenario for the staff to carry out their work. Regarding the design and dimension of the pens built by EXAFAN, we bear in mind the factors considered to be essential if we wish to achieve a positive result in relationship with the breeding process. That is to say, their adequate dimension is essential in order to accomplish the convenient air flow to ventilate, cool, heat, and arrange the equipment location and systems required for such purposes. Likewise, it is very important not to forget, that the design and dimension of the pens must consider the situation of the following elements such as the nesting boxes, laying batteries, feeders, feeding distribution systems, drinkers, etc‌which are directly linked to the farm structure, since they all depend not only on their location but also on their daily operation.
Insulation is an aspect that we cannot obviate given its importance. EXAFAN really focuses on the insulation issue, either in terms of the enclosures, as the roof, since the animal comfort but also the energy saving depend on it and will help to contribute to an efficient production unit. It is necessary to bear in mind a previous analysis allowing us to build the required equipment and devices regarding the enclosures for the air inlet traps to be placed at the height and convenient distance in order to keep the environment perfectly renovated. Likewise, it is necessary for so important elements such as water and fodder to be efficiently placed, we will have to consider a good design of the structure, including the hanging systems as well as the distribution and adequate measures in order to place the feeders and drinkers conveniently so that the animals may access very easily, this eliminates the risk of stress due to their struggle to get the fodder.

02.03.02.02 The confirmed gestation building includes sows for the remaining gestation period until their transfer to the farrowing period (confirmed gestation building, 11 – 12 weeks). They are usually located in groups, although this will depend on the current regulation in each country, whereby, we may also find individual boxes. 02.03.02.03 Farrowing The farrowing facilities consist of a set of rooms with a variable capacity, usually built according to a “train wagon shape”. The structuration in rooms is behind the convenience of making “all inside all outside” in order to clean the facilities and try to depopulate the place between two consecutive groups of sows for health reasons. Each room has a set of farrowing places set in serial or in battery connection, where
the sow farrows and after the piglet birth, it lives together with its litter until the weaning period begins. The sow is kept in a metal pen where the piglets can freely access inside the entire pen. Such place is designed to create two different climate control areas, one for the sow and the other one for the piglets. The sow has its own individual feeder and drinker while the piglets a heating pad or any other kind of heating device for their comfort; eventually a feeder and drinker too.

02.03.02.04 Weaning Piglets usually stay in the weaning period since the moment they distance from the sow until they are around two or two months and a half old. They are organised in rooms, capable of hosting weaned piglets along the weaning period plus one week, minimum, this is for health depopulation purposes. 02.04. Technology and innovation
You may control the temperature status, ventilation, heating and cooling systems as well as any other working parameter within your farm, even through a remote control and live. On top of it, you may also modify the working data and check the database and information stored in the system. You may study the air inlet control, exits, cancellations, etc. in your production farms.

Loop commutation
Regarding large farms, where several production centers are separated one another, and where the distance is also caused by the dispersion of the buildings, it is important to have a global production vision. The loop communication system monitors the building computers in a centralized way, which allows us to draw out and present the graphic data chosen. The system can transfer the data to each farm manager individually, but it is also possible to get the data from several farms, and transmit them to a central office in order to prepare the analysis corresponding to each production unit, with the purpose of keeping on optimizing the performance. configuration may be copied to the remaining computers. The system presents the climate control and production data clearly while provides the poultry breeders with a quick vision of the whole picture, on top of allowing them to keep track of each lot development. The system can draw out a lot of data, for example, key values in terms of the fogging, cooling, mortality, fattening levels of the animal population, etc., this enables us to access the climate control and alarm data of all the computers. You only need an Internet connection. The application allows minimizing the risk of losses in case of some system failures taking place, this way we can continue to monitor the animal development even if we are not physically in the building.
Surveillance and early warning systems
Current buildings work in a way that they can include the highest number of animals inside with the smallest area possible; this can cause the animals to suffer a collapse because of asphyxia as they compulsorily depend on forced ventilation. In case the electric power supply fails, Exafan recommends installing an alarm system controlled by a computer, so that the response is immediate in the reference case of failures within the facilities and so to find a solution as soon as possible.

Detection and warning systems
The farm remote communication systems proposed by EXAFAN enables you to visualize your animals anytime and anywhere, there is no need to actually go to the farm, it is also feasible to monitor the facilities with the different surveillance cameras available. To view the condition of the animals in your farms live, how they feed themselves or how they are located. These monitored cameras allow observing any point within the facilities, zoom, and progressive scanning‌.
Due to the importance of this immediate response in case of failure or wrong operation within the facilities, Exafan offers you a wide range of failure detection systems: independent safety thermostats from the electric power supply, “failure by areas� warning devices, supply sources so that the warning system works without any electric power supply, acoustic and bright signals.

In intensive breeding farms, we have to provide the animal with the very best environment guaranteeing its health, and ultimately, the maximum production level possible thanks to this comfort achieved. For the last years, the importance of the environment and the internal housing equipment on the animal health and as a consequence its productivity has been constantly highlighted. Minimum ventilation enables renovating the environment inside the farms by restricting the noxious gas and hanging particles inside, which could become very harmful under determined concentrations. Zenithal air extraction

Exafan has created a new kind of detachable and stackable chimney designed to work in air extraction mode but also to drive the air inlet inside the farm by leading it to the required areas thanks to its diffusor. Conic feature
Air flow
The new conic chimney model enables extracting air more fluently and quicker due to the “Venturi effect”, which is caused by the air inlet and outlet from the chimney.
The ventilation chimney has been designed to supply the maximum air flow possible, this way we reduce the fan electric consumption level due to the conic widening part from where the air comes out, which produces the above mentioned Venturi effect.
This construction principle concerning the conic air inlet and outlet ensures an improvement in the fan performance.

Exhaust fans Exhaust fans (Ex36-Ex50) At Exafan, we have developed ventilation systems on the basis of a certain ventilation logics (present in all of our computer programs). This is done, by linking the climate control system in one single concept, which guarantees a low consumption cost rate, on top of controlling the convenient quantity and air direction inside the building, avoiding disturbing air flows on the same level as the one of the animals. In other words, no doubt about it, we are certain that the system developed by the Exafan Corporation is the only one dealing with these two parameters the way they deserve. However, in some production phases, usually for intensive ones, farrowing crates for farrowing sows, piglets in transition, etc‌it is required for the animal welfare and profitability to control the farm environmental conditions by means of dynamic or forced ventilation, which at the same time, may be complemented by static ventilation.

The new aerodynamic design of the blades improves the efficiency of the whole set by achieving a higher air flow value (m3 / h) per electrode consumption in watts. The new shutter improves the aerodynamic coefficient of the whole set and enables a better protection degree against the intake of light and air inside the facilities. The centrifugal system is made of black acetal resin with UV protection. The sliding motor has been specially designed to reduce the stress of the motor bearings. The new performance of the highly efficient electric motor extends its endurance along with a higher energy consumption saving. A special support made of plastic fixes the mesh, which eliminates any vibration.

Control of the air inlets EXAFAN has developed the most complete range of products to be found nowadays, any kind of system to control the ventilation flow (fans, chimneys, air inlets), as well as the largest range of intelligent electronic computers capable of providing with a reliable solution to any kind of problem it may arise. In this chapter, we will cover the range of climate controllers and actuators used to open the air inlets as well as the required devices to automatize them.

Air inlets The air inlets manufactured by Exafan have been designed to obtain an optimal distribution and regulation of the air flow getting inside. These air inlets are made of materials resistant to corrosion, durable and resistant, on top of it; we have made sure that the unbeatable insulation provided avoids the action of thermal bridges and therefore, the disturbing condensation.
Air inlets made of polyurethane
The use of high quality polyurethane with a high insulating degree makes it an ideal material to be used for air inlets given their “plastic thermo - stable” feature, high resistance and low weight; resistant against corrosion and acids. Its high insulating value does not create any condensation. Its lightness enables us not to have to over – dimension the metal structures.
Air inlets made of PVC
Feasible and adaptable solution to any kind of facility; either a reform or a new building design, its great resistance makes it possible to be used inside or outside facing harsh weather conditions.

The air inlets made of polyurethane by EXAFAN (type VEA) are made of high density polyurethane while using screws and bolts made of stainless steel.
The frame contacts the blade on all of its corners; it includes insulation and water tightness systems, as for example closing weather strips.

The fodder transportation system by means of a chain conveyor is the ideal system for pig facilities using dry fodder such as flour, crumbs or pellets. The dragging element (equipment) and accessories are made of stainless steel, which provides with a perfect finishing and longer lasting system. The system is totally modular, whereby we may adapt it to already existing or new facilities. The distribution of fodder may be done through the silo outlet with no need to implement a spiral worm gear conveyor. Given the large amount of accessories available to unload the fodder, the distribution may be done to any hopper, dispenser or feeder. The dragging system directly attacks to the chain conveyor link, never to the plastic block, this way we avoid its wearing and breaking (Fig. -1)

Nesting boxes for piglets Nesting box The comfort area heated is a surface enabling to keep an ideal microclimate for the piglets in the farrowing pen during their first days. At the same time, it allows improving the sow level of comfort. The specific comfort space for the piglets inside the farrowing pen avoids any heating loss, which enables considerable power saving since it makes the temperature in the other areas of the room remain below the level needed by the piglets, a fact that improves the sow comfort. The protection area is made of high technical long - lasting plastic material, which gives the nesting box the required rigidity and resistance to support the aggressive conditions we may find in the farrowing pen. They provide with tenacity no matter what temperature. This is especially interesting for cold environments, where other plastic materials are fragile. They provide with some mechanic resistance and rigidity. It is very easy to clean thanks to their design including round edges.

We recommend using a nesting box during the farrowing period, not only because of the piglet comfort, but also because of economic reasons thanks to its power efficiency. The additional costs generated by our choice are recovered in the short term. The fact of keeping the adequate temperature inside the farrowing room considerably reduces the heating requirements in winter on top of improving the thermal requirements of the sow (between 18ยบ C and 20ยบ C), it also provides with a microclimate for the piglets at an optimal and homogeneous temperature between 28ยบ C and 30ยบ C. Besides, we come up to optimize the sow feeding process with a higher production level of milk and consequently, with better results regarding the piglets.

Tracking Electronic dispensers A dramatic loss of weight by the sow in the farrowing crate has some negative consequences for the following cycle: a shorter heat period and a later weaning one, significant decrease of the ovule quality and embryos, fewer piglets and more repeating sows. This decrease in terms of viability and quality of the embryos can be no longer rectified with good feeding in the first part of the gestation period. Thanks to the automatic application of a feeding strategy with the feeding program in the farrowing crate, we reduce the risk of losing weight while the sow remains in optimal conditions. Dosing the feeding process on the basis of the animal individual requirements means a great step further towards an optimal condition and good performance. The feeding system in the farrowing crate goes one step further by including the possibility of dosing the feeding process in several portions.
Thanks to the possibility of dosing the feed in several portions, the ingestion of feed is optimized, and avoids the generation of waste or even the rejection of feed caused for example by a too fast increase of the feeding portion after the birth.
The birth means an enormous effort for the sow. To motivate it after the birth in order to help it to stand up and eat small quantities of feed, will contribute for its recovery. This improves the sow vitality and decreases the piglet mortality risk.
