“Get me out of this backward town.” “I cannot wait to leave Slowbile, Alabama.” “I’ve gotta get outta here and be in a big city.” I’ve heard these comments and many more for years from friends thinking that somewhere else has more opportunity or is more glamorous or gives one more status. Meh….you’ll be back in time. Mobile has a magical charm. Whether MIMO/ LODA is your speed or WEMO/EIEIO is your speed, this wonderful area calls us back as the mercies called to the fisherman of much longer ago. Like a boomerang, fling your “antsy grass is greener” butt hither and yond, but YOU WILL RETURN. The Mobile Boomerang Effect; we sit, watch, and wait. HERE THEY COME RUNNING, FLYING, SPEEDING BACK to what we’ve always known was the right place to have been. Having asked for recounts of folks that left to pursue their dream or left “kicking and screaming, “ having been gone 6 months or 30 years, having been immature and/or in the winter of life, Our Beautiful Village with arms spread and ready to embrace her children never left you when you left her. …and she had a place for you. I’ve lived here for almost 40 years. This place is amazing. The people are amazing. The surrounding areas are amazing. Mobile, Our Treasured City, is amazing.

Bold is in! Whether you choose a sultry smoky eye or a daring, deep lip, make a statement with your makeup this season.
This season, one of the hottest hues in lip color is burgundy. Keeping your eyes neutral will bring focus to your vampy pout.To recreate this look, try MAC Nightmoth lip liner and Dior Addict Extreme lipstick in Bellissima. Add a quick coat of mascara (try Lancome's Hypnose) and a touch of MAKEUP FOREVER Star Powder in Iridescent Pale Peach on the lid. Now you're ready for a night on the town!
The ever-classic smoky eye is another look on trend for the winter this year. Pair this with a nude lip, and stop traffic with your smile! Getting the perfect smoky eye is easy! Line your waterline with a black kohl liner like MAC's Feline, and smudge a cream liner (try Merle Norman creme eyeliner in Black) on the top and bottom lash lines. Finish with a bold mascara like Diorshow Black Out. Dab Urban Decay's Lip Junkie lipgloss in Midnight Cowboy over your lips for a perfect look
Without a doubt, this is a season of detail. From the careful selection of colors, to the delectable mixing of paired prints, everything about fall is a statement—the colors, the accessories and the fabrics. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite items and some things to keep a keen eye on; we definitely don’t want you to be the last one to find out.
Layered Arm Candy. Incorporating accessories is the easiest way to instantaneously update or change the look of any outfit. There are so many options: leather cuffs, bangles, and bracelets. Add in spiked leather pieces or a few gold cuffs to texture a look. The Leo bracelet, available in gold and silver metal. Www.urbaneboutique.com $24.
Textured and Patterned Leggings. This secret was just too good to keep to ourselves. We were the first introduced to Gal Stern after being gifted in a small white box. Little did we know that the gift would be our new favorite crush. With eclectic motifs and designs, plain black fishnets look like child’s play. Goldfish Black & Gold Sheer Tights www.gal-stern.com$24.
Make-up, please. Sephora’s collection has done the unimaginable— a palette that contains 130 colors for the eyes, lips and face. The collection is perfect for jet-setting divas that are constantly on the go and have to transition effortlessly from downtown shopping to gala showstopper. The $210 bundle is being offered for $49.50. Available at Sephora of J C Penny www.sephora.com.
By far one of our favorite trends that has transitioned from Spring 2013, leather adds an instant wardrobe update that can change the entire dynamic of an outfit. From full leather pieces, to leather detailing, leggings and leather-paneled blazers, even the evolution of faux-leather has changed the game. We love Lashes of London’s pleated skirt in faux leather, which is offered in a deep wine hue. www.asos.com; $74.75
BCBG Max Azria’s Zurich Pump: Object of Affection. If there is one investment shoe for the season (and next season too, for that matter), the Zurich pump gives everything a girl could want in a shoe. The pump is crafted with a silver metal heel and metallic capped toe, and offers an exaggerated ankle cuff that embraces the base of the leg. While you’re browsing BCBG, take a peak at the Upas blazer. The perfect mix of structured blazer and cape, this jacket is an amazing modern interpretation of a classic piece. Shopping with Deedee Bonner Mother of Alabama Crimson Tide Quarterback, AJ McCarron Dee Dee Bonner is known to some as the mother of Star Quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide, AJ McCarron, but there is more to this amazing women. Not only is she an active mother to AJ and his three brothers she has a career as Manager of Legislative Affairs for Austal Shipbuilding. As if she didn't have her hands full enough, Dee Dee also has a passion for helping children who are ill or injured. This is something that is very close to her heart after AJ was involved in a very serious jet-ski accident when he was five. Being faced with the horrific idea that he may not survive or would be serioulsy disabled was a mom’s worst nightmare. His miraculous recovery led him and Dee Dee on a mission to help others in need.
Starla is one of the children that you may be familiar with as Dee Dee is the President of the Board of Directors for a Foundation that tries to assist families with kids that are ill. Dee Dee said, “Starla’s Mom, Dad and a group of us started the foundation in her name. The Foundation helps with bills or whatever might come up while kids are in the hospital. AJ would like to start of a foundation as well once he is able to. Once he goes into the NFL he wants to start AJ’s Champions to help children that are ill or injured. Helping children plays a large part in his future plans.” When she is not working, taking care of the family or helping others in need you can find Dee Dee shopping for shoes! When asked who her favorite designers were she had this to say. “Helmut Lang, Jimmy Choo, I love shoes. I love good buys. I have like 14 black dresses and then my shoes. I may have a hundred pair of shoes.” When asked about fashion and comfortable clothes she mentioned that she can be comfortable in anything. “I can be comfy in a dress, blue jeans, Mickey Mouse pajama pants. People laugh because I wear high heel shoes all the time because I’m short. I’m 5’4 on a good day.”

Not Just A Problem Faced By Teens
Bullying comes in many forms, and most adults have had experiences of childhood bullying as being either physical, verbal or covert. Physical bullying can vary from the stereotypical kid who stole your lunch money to being tripped, pinched or hit by someone larger than you. Verbal bullying can include: name calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, homophobic, sexist or racist remarks. Covert bullying is often done behind a person’s back in order to harm their personal reputation or cause humiliation by spreading lies and rumors.1 A more recent form of harassment that some adults engage in is called Cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can be overt, covert, private, and public and has emerged with the explosion of digital technology sharing via personal laptops, Ipads and smartphones. The majority of attacks are targeted toward females online by other women. Adult cyber-bullying tends to start in chatrooms and social network sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Attacks vary widely from condemning parenting skills, judging romances, to criticizing personal appearance. The comments can be extremely vicious and demeaning. Women who stoop to this type of bullying are personally insecure and feel protected by cyber anonymity, often writing things that they would never say to a person’s face. Andrea Weckerle, founder of CiviliNation and author of “Civility in the Digital Age”, states that few people understood the extent cyber bullying affects adults. "It's incredulous how many people still believe that cyber bullying is something that only impacts
children and teens. The sad fact is that online reputation attacks, threats and intimidation against adults take place on a daily basis in all corners of the world. In many cases the victims suffer in silence, not knowing what to do to stop the onslaught or without the financial and legal means to pursue their attackers. Online attacks have become an epidemic and I fear it's just a matter of time before an adult takes their own life."2 1

Tips to Combat Cyber Bullying: -Do not reply to trolls. Delete and ignore them. Bullies are just looking for a reaction. -Block the bully's social media profile or account. -Report the user to site administration. -Remember that once your views, thoughts, pictures are posted they are in cyberspace forever, even if you hide & delete the posts. -Check your privacy settings! Do not list home or work addresses, phone numbers or email. -Only accept friend requests from known family and friends. -Take screen shots and keep offensive messages as evidence. -If abuse and harassment continues, report it to police.

Motherly duties, 40 hour work weeks, meetings and tight schedules is the typical everyday life. Sometimes it is vital to call some of the girls who share the same tasks and throw a good ol’ pajama glam. Pajama Glam gives ladies a time to kick back, have girl talk, get all dolled up like young giddy teenagers; and finish the night off with a touch of glamour. In essence there is nothing wrong with having a night off with the most fashionalbe silk and satin pajamas. This is also a great time to catch up on the latest gossip about “who’s who” and the newest fashion trends around. With the ever evolving make up industry, this is also a great time to practice the latest facial and make up tutorials found on the infamous YouTube. Of course, a pajama glam isn’t complete without some good music. Playing some oldies but goodies would definitely crank up the night. So kick back and try out some new dance moves with the girls. If you really want to spice things up a bit, have a pillow fight to relieve some of your stress and just have fun. You are never too old to have a night with the Girls and Glam it up!

Four People with Four Amazing Stories In the Gym 5 days a week, benching 300 pounds, eating right and in the best shape of my life at nearly 40 but wait...You have Diabetes! Diabetes doesn't run in my family. How is this possible? This was the diagnosis I received after I had been loosing my vision (which I thought was age) and losing weight (which I associated with my intense workouts). After a trip to Disney World and just not feeling myself I decided to get my blood sugar tested and it was a whopping 740! I was told the bad news is you have Diabetes but the good news is you didn't have a stroke or worse.Hearing a Physician say “You are a Lucky Man” is scary. I feel lucky to be alive and now know that Diabetes does not discriminate. I am still able to do everything that I have always done and I don't let Diabetes run my life...it is just another part of it. Listen to your body and take care of it. Don't assume "It can't happen to me." If it does and life throws you a curve - Take the Ride and Smile and know it all happens for a reason. If God brings you to it he will bring you through it.
Mike Soule' My name is Desha' Ringe; I am 25 years old and have had Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes for nearly 15 years. I was first diagnosed in 1998, when I was 10 years old. Through the years, I've struggled with the disease, as my multiple daily insulin shots were not keeping my blood sugar levels low enough. I've been hospitalized with Diabetic Ketoacidosis twice, have developed glaucoma, and even lost a child because I . was not healthy enough. After 14 years of battling highs and lows, I finally decided to give an insulin pump a try. I now use the OmniPod insulin pump-the only pump on the market without tubing and uses Bluetooth technology between the monitor and pod. It has changed my life and made living with diabetes much easier for me. My amazing family has supported me throughout the years and made sure I never stopped trying to get myself healthier. I can't thank them enough for everything they've done, as they pushed me to get the pump and are the reason I finally got one. I now have an a1c of 7.0 (the lowest it's ever been) and am able to live a better, healthier, and more fulfilling life because of it!
Desha’ Ringe
We don’t know how strong we are until being strong is the only choice... Something was wrong. I didn't know what. Went to my doctor a tage 41 and had the blood work done, and then she called me back into her office."Ray, I'm going to tell you something that is going to change many things for you. You are a diabetic." Had no clue what that meant. I do now. It means that I don't have the same freedoms as the rest of the world. I can't eat what I want. I can't get life insurance and/or health insurance as readily. I have to be compliant. HAVE TO BE! Hard is not the word to describe having to deal with this disease. I was mad; may still be mad...ish. Now 45, I feel it, and I deal with it. I run/walk/shuffle and kinda try to be compliant. It happens to the best of us. It happened to me. Be vigilant with your healthy diet and exercise, and prosper and grow old the best way. You were given this life and your vessel; be good to them!
Ray
Coming from a family of medical professionals, the last thing you want to do is develop type two diabetes! My grandfather and Mother both developed type 2 diabetes. I have always been active! From playing every sport available, year round in high school, to college volleyball, to working out and coaching for a career. However, as life gets busy and we try to cram everything in we tend to take less care of ourselves. I started to notice weight gain, frequent headaches and almost constant nausea. I also started to experience crankiness when I didn’t eat every few hours. I would become shaky and not be able to do much. I went to the doctor and they told me I was in the danger zone of becoming a type two diabetic. They prescribed me metformin and I began to monitor my blood sugar. I didn’t want to be labeled for the rest of my life. So I began to make lifestyle changes. I got back to exercising regularly,.I cut most simple carbohydrates from my diet and almost all alcohol. My doctor was amazed when I returned for my annual checkup.. my AIC was in perfect range. I stopped taking my metformin and have not taken it for 10 years. I don’t plan on itever again, as long as I can control my fate. This will be a constant battle as my weight changes often since my thyroid was removed in 2008. The busy lifestyle we Americans have adopted makes it difficult to stay on top of our health but we have to make it a top priority.

...A Thousand Miles for Inspiration Like most of us, I’m a huge lover of all social media; so when I was hooked up with my OmniPod insulin pump for the first time in March, I had it on my stomach and decided to post a picture of it on Instagram. That same day, I received a comment from a girl, Emily Dobson, whom I’d never spoken to before, asking questions about the pump. Emily, 19, was diagnosed with Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes in 2010 and was taking several insulin shots a day. As a senior graduating from high school in Ontario, Canada, she knew having to worry about taking her shots would be a hindrance in her busy life, once she started college in the fall. I told her how amazing the OmniPod was and that I had been diabetic for nearly fifteen years and was always afraid of trying an insulin pump because I didn’t want to be “hooked up to something constantly.” That was actually a main reason why I chose the OmniPod--it has no tubing, like other pumps. I proceeded to tell Emily how much easier having my pump made my already-hectic life and encouraged her to research it more. We became friends via Facebook soon after, and I one day spotted a picture of her sporting a trial pod that OmniPod had sent her! She tagged me in her picture and said she was inspired by my story to try it for herself. Me? The girl who took less-than-perfect care of herself for fifteen years because she was afraid of a bulky insulin pump? The girl who was too shallow to think of having to wear a pump that could possibly show through her clothing? From over 1,000 miles away, I inspired this amazing girl, who shared my very same fears, to conquer those fears and better her health. Just a few weeks ago, Emily’s insurance approved her, and she is now training on how to use her new insulin pump! To this day, seven months later, we still keep in touch, almost daily. She believes that I am an inspiration, but she is my true inspiration. She once told me, “I’m ! honestly glad I found you so that you could help me.” Because of her, I know that I can turn the negativity of having a disease around for the positive and help others. She made me realize that it isn’t always just about yourself; it’s about what you can do for other people. I thank her for that.

Coping with Diabetes in Non-Traditional Ways Diagnosed with diabetes at only three years old,Jacob received his insulin pump at five after traditional methods of multiple daily shots proved unable to control his blood sugar. He told his parents he was sad because he felt different from other children because of his pump. So Camille Boivin and Philippe Aumond decided to get tattoos that match their son's pump to lift his spirits in support for his daily fight. "We had those tattoos done to inspire our own son, but it seems like our son was not the only one touched by what we've done." says Camille. Jacob, now seven, continues with his insulin pump and is doing wonderfully.
Daisy, a nine month old white golden retriever, is being trained for pet therapy at The Diabetes Center in Ocean Springs, MS. KC Arnold, NP, brings Daisy to her clinicevery day for her training; and she currently helps young children by aiding them in their transitions from multiple daily insulin shots to insulin pumps. KC shared a story of a three year old girl who was learning to use her new pump and turned to Daisy for comfort, "When we went to start the device on the little girl, she became scared. I asked her if she wanted Daisy to come help. She said yes. Daisy came and gave her paw to the little girl to hold onto while we started the pump." Daisy is well on her way to being certified for pet therapy, and we all can't wait to see the differences she continues to make in children living with diabetes' lives.

Do you ever feel like a bomb that is about to explode?
Everyday stresses have a way of depleting our energy, spirit, and joy. Give yourself a break and take time out to relax and enjoy a few moments without worrying. Try these three simple tips to help relax body and soul.
Rejuvenate
1 Breathe Deeply
Sit comfortably and take a few deep cleansing breaths. Inhale slowly through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. Meditation lowers your blood pressure, relaxes and calms your nerves almost instantly. This simple technique only takes about five to ten minutes a
2 Soak Your Cares Away
Draw a hot bath, pour in your favorite bubble or bath salts, light some candles, turn on your favorite tunes, and leave your worries at the door. Remember to drink plenty of water and use body lotion to rehydrate.
3 Get Plenty of Sleep
Adults should have at least seven to eight hours a night. Anything less leads to physical and mental fatigue and health issues. Grab a book and crawl into bed early for a well deserved and restful night's sleep. Sweet dreams!
