ith The 100 Project, we mark a return to our roots showcasing the work of the creative toy community, from beginners just learning the ropes to veterans of the craft. We’ve learned more putting this issue together then any other previous edition as we get to know and learn from 100 distinct personalities with their own creative feedback shaping the issue from start to finish. Originally designed to be a small project, we went on to receive triple the amount of applicants for the spaces available. This went along way in validating our continuous goal of providing a showcasing space for creatives of all skills and backgrounds.

I
started collecting back in 2011 with a Halo:Reach two box set. Since then I would pick up a handful of Halo figures from then on. It wasn’t until 2016 where I finally purchased my first 6 inch figure, the Black Series Kylo Ren, that made me widely pursue more toy lines and figures that caught my attention. In that same year, I decided to open up my toy photography account on Instagram, where I was widely inspired and motivated to do so because of @odst1701. Since then I have gained knowledge from a college course and other photographers, met people in real life, and saw the awesome nature of the community, and blindly pursuing other toys and collectible items.

ello there! My name is Lizzy, also known as Force of Light. I’m just a gal who likes Star Wars, has a fairly large collection of toys and a camera. I started taking photos after I stumbled upon Instagram accounts that were creating outstanding art with just toys. Getting to take some figures, go outside, and let my imagination roam free is one of my favorite things to do. When looking at my gallery, you may find that lighting is a major aspect in each of them. Lighting can express emotion and set the scene. I use it to give my photos my own unique style. The toy community itself is friendly, helpful, and awesome to collaborate with! I do toy photography to share my creativity and love of Star Wars and figures with those who love them as well and to…be light in darkness…

I
am Nunzio Giorgio Carducci, and I am the mind behind Faceless Trooper. My first experience with photography was in an eighth-grade photography class. Until recently, I mainly took portraits, along with landscapes and macro photos, on my personal account @carducci_kid. My transition from collecting LEGOs to buying up action figures catalyzed the shift in my subjects, and on January 9, 2018, I created the Faceless Trooper: White Armor Black Rifle brand. It wasn’t meant to be too serious, just a casual attempt at making a content based around a specific type of photography, but the overwhelming positive response to my work told me that I had found my niche in the photography community. The ability to take two steps outside my house and recreate a scene from Tatooine or do portraits next to a window is what makes toy photography a great activity for me as a college student, It’s about helping new photographers grow by giving them feedback from my experience as a semi-pro photographer and creating content that I have a passion for.

I
started my Instagram page in January 2016, I had just gotten my first Star Wars the Black Series figures and was searching Instagram for more info and pics, and realized there was a lot of talented photographers posting these incredible photos of different figures. I thought I´d try it myself just for fun, but I soon became more involved in the community and met a lot of people that shared my interest and inspired me to push forward. As a mainly outdoors photographer I´ve spent a lot of time looking for locations and that is also a big part of why I´m doing this, I really enjoy being outside and finding new spots for the figures, trying to make them look as real and alive as possible in the surroundings.I´d like to call this photo “Victory Night Redux” as it´s kind of a remake of an indoors shot I did about a year ago when I first started to use different kinds of lighting and became more serious about my indoors photography. Since then I always wanted to try this shot outdoors with a real fire, just as the sun sets, seeing the Tusken Raiders celebrate another day in the Jundland Wastes.

I
t’s been more than 15 years since I started collecting action figures. The joy I feel when I find a figure that I really want, the excitement of waiting for my preorders to arrive or the smell of freshly opened figure box, all of these feelings are indescribable to me and fellow collectors know exactly what I’m talking about. It was pure coincidence that I started toy photography. Yes, I was a figure collector, yes, I was into photograpy but it never occured to me that these two hobbies of mine could be combined so beautifully. Until I saw a few accounts on Instagram. Then I knew what I was looking for and toy photography was just the thing for me. When I do toy photography, I feel myself shrinking to their size and I completely disconnect myself from the outside world, whether I’m indoors or outdoors. One day I even lost my car keys over a photography session. Was it worth it? Of course it was. (I found the key later so no worries).

y name is Jared, also known as @scout_trooper29 on Instagram. Not only I’m a toy photographer, I am a creature designer/ concept artist. Basically I sketch designs of various creatures, that I made myself, and sculpt them as well. February 22, 2017 was the date that I joined the toy photography community and posted my first toy shot on Instagram. After my first toy shot, that’s when I knew that I wanted to take part in this amazing community. I do toy photography because all of the figures that I own and take photos of, remind me so much of the memorable moments of my childhood. And now I feel like a kid again, which is nothing wrong with that. Also I think that toy photography is a good way to show the general public that toys aren’t just for kids and that these plastic figures are part of who we are. After discovering some of the most talented artists in this community, they really gave me a lot of inspiration into becoming a toy photographer.

I
’m Luke Jones from Pasadena, California. I first got into toy photography because I enjoyed toys and wanted to learn photography. It seemed like the perfect combination, and toys were very good subjects for an amateur photographer. Since I started, I have grown in photography, photoshop, and other photography related skills. I have a passion for thinking outside the box to bring the characters to life and put them in situations that they wouldn’t actually do, for instance, a picture of stormtroopers making coffee. I want to let the personality of each toy shine through, and I look forward to continuing to grow in this ability.

00 photos, 100 different styles and pictures. And here is 1 of mine. It’s 1 of mine that took me 7 days, 14+ hours and 200+ shutter punches to create. This photo is called “Who’s there!?”, and it features the mutant X-23 in a self-built snowy forest at a campfire. 97% of this shot has been done in camera. If you would like to see more, please visit my Instagram account @toy_kriz.I photograph Marvel, DC and Star Wars figures in 6” scale from various toy companies. I have become known for photographing a lot of female characters, but it is not only limited to that.Thank you Exclu for this concept. Exclu is the biggest reason I became so interested in this hobby. Through their themed shoot offerings, I was able to showcase my early beginnings as a toy photographer. And I only pushed my boundaries after that. I’m still not there yet, but who ever is? I keep on learning, and enjoying the content within the Toy Community.

I
’m a French graphic designer based in Paris, I mostly make web-design at day and toy photograhy at night (fighting crime wasn’t an option). I have been collecting toys since my childhood but 5 years ago, it became a passion that grew inside me… I started toy photography, at first just for fun with my phone but over the last three years I spent more and more time on this and now I guessed it is a serious thing. For me, toy photography is an extension of what I see in pop culture, mostly movies because of these famous franchises that have been going on for the past few years. It is a manner to create new things that pop culture doesn’t necessarily do, to pay tribute to heroes, and to shape new narratives in one single shot.

i! I’m Luke Random, but you may know me just as a Random Scout Trooper on Instagram. I’ve been doing toy photography for a year now. My favorite things? Star Wars, toys, 80’s music, action films and videogames. Indoor photography is my thing, and I love doing what I do. How did I get to know the toy photography community? A friend of mine showed me a photography page and I thought, I can do this too! So then, I created my page. Why a random scout trooper? As you may already know by looking into my feed, my favorite trooper is the Biker Scout. I think that the helmet design and their speederbikes are simply awesome. And random? I simply like how it sounds.

’m a person who really loves movies and taking photos. Naturally, I started to have interest in collecting movie based figures and taking photographs of my collection. By doing so, it almost makes me feel like I can enjoy the movies again. For me, not only buying and putting them on the shelves but also taking photos of them is also part of collecting figures. Life is tiring to everyone but at least, when I am taking photos of my figures, I can forget everything and really put myself into these characters and movies which release all the stress and makes me happy. Now, collecting figures and documenting them became something that I can’t detach from my life. I also found it very interesting to communicate with other collectors through this hobby and naturally, I wanted to show my works to more people. That’s when I found ‘The Exclu Collective’. It is really fascinating to have a platform to express creativities and show the works. To me, having magazine form for toy art is so appealing.

P
hotography itself has a long history and it represents a wide range of styles, trends and genres, but toy photography is something relatively new and fresh. It allows you to integrate different classic “directions” (ex. macro, portrait, object photography, etc) and therefore it demands a wide range of skills. This new direction is actually too deep and at the same time too wide (which is well shown by different artists, collectors, designers and everyone else in the community, each with his own style, vision and ideas) to discuss in a few sentences. This is just another world where your imagination can reach some new levels. Also, when you witness such a creative community every single day, it provides you with a challenge to constantly improve your own skills, to try something new every time and to try it harder. It’s motivating and it’s inspiring. This is one of the best things about toy photography, I guess.

hats up everyone my names Eric Hill. You all probably know me better as Heatfour on instagram. First off I just want to thank Exclu for letting me be a part of The 100 project. Right away I thought this would be a really rad publication to be a part of. So heres a little about me. My obsession with action figures runs deep and it always on my mind, I am always thinking about the next shot or the next figure I want to get. But I usually stick to three main groups, TMNT, Marvel, and Acid rain world. Usually thats where a majority of my time and money goes. The ninja turtles and LOTR is where my first toy photos stem from. Its where I learned and picked up new techniques that i still use today. I choose to recreate this scene from “ The secret of the ooze” because I wanted to shoot Raphael and capture a ninja turtle shot, and reach back to my roots. To show appreciation to the figures that molded me into the toy photographer I am today. This scene makes me laugh every time I watch it too. I hope you all enjoyed learning a bit about myself and thank you all so much for the support. I have met so many cool people through toy photography, I couldn’t do it without you.

After learning photography in school, my grandson taught me how to use a DSLR and although it took time to learn, we now post 5 photos a week. Over time, I learned how to use adobe photoshop to edit my photos in raw as well as add effects and color correction. I’ve met so many amazing and kind photographers through Instagram and can’t wait to meet more photographer friends!

All this started as a simple hobby, spending time trying to take a decent picture of my father’s action figures, later I discovered on Instagram a community of incredible toy photographers, that’s why I found enough inspiration to learn and keep improving day by day. My main motivation is to try to get other people to realize how great toys are, to rediscover that toys are not just children’s things.

eing a toy photographer never would have crossed my mind 6 months ago, but as I saw the amount of fun and support and friendship within the community, I instantly wanted to get involved. I started out using my phone camera, one Black Series 6” 442nd battalion clone trooper, and no knowledge on photography. Fast forward to 5 months later, and I’m almost to 1k followers, and have so much more knowledge on photography in general, many new, amazing friends, and an angry wallet at how many figures I have bought the last few weeks to add more diversity to my shots, so that I can continue to give good content for my amazing followers who support me with every shot I post. This is a hobby that I can see myself improving at, and striving to get better for weeks, months, and even years to come.

But never realy did anything with it except for the occasional pics on party’s and family trips. Until 1 year ago when i bought a Nikon D3300. I bought it to make better pics and eventualy maybe earn some extra money by being a photographer on events and weddings. About 3 years ago I also started collecting figures, mainly Marvel but also some random things I like. Decided to make an instagram page and post quick pics of new items I bought. But sometimes i saw some amazing pics of figures on instagram and thought hey, Im going to try to take some cooler pics instead of just the toy on a shelf. So thats when the addiction began. I now combine the 2 things that I love, photography and collecting Marvel figures. Every moment of free time, when Im not playing overwatch (my other addiction) Im taking pics of my figures, do a little editing and share them. And im glad I discovered this new hobby because I love being in this awesome toy community.

ased in Singapore, i’ve been pursuing photography as a hobby for the past 10 years, doing freelance works as an event photographer covering weddings of friends & family. I discovered that my true passion lies in taking photos of toys and it’s pop-culture counterparts, and so I have transitioned into Toy Photography since then. Ive spent the past 8 years shooting a wide range of toy products, from Sixth-Scale to Quarter-Scale figures, Statues & also Die-Cast vehicles. As a Photo Enthusiast with a Graphic Design educational background, my proficiency lies in using a wide range of professional cameras, lenses & studio lighting equipments. Software proficiency includes the use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. I aim to invoke as much realism into these collectibles, and so experiment with different angles, perspectives, lighting techniques & also the use of practical effects to capture screen-accuracy & to bringout the smallest of details crafted and painted, by the finest members of the collectible teams.

’m a family guy and a wildlife rehabilitator from the San Francisco Bay Area. My love for all this stuff predates Star Wars. As a kid I wanted to be Ray Harryhausen. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, 20,000,000 Miles to Earth inspired me to attempt creating my own stop motion figures, which never got past the rough sculpting stage. I’ve always had a need to create but never quite found a lane that satisfied me. Star Wars and comic books are what set me off on the collecting path and I’ve been an avid collector of statues and 1/6 scale figures since the 90’s. A couple years ago I discovered @galactic_warfighters, @sgtbananas and some others on Instagram and started thinking “Maybe, I can do that”. Eventually I tried a few shots in my yard with some sixth scale figures, my iPhone and no photography skills. A month later I started @MorpheusVisions on Instagram and bought a Nikon DSLR. It’s been about a year since I started and I’m having a great time and learning a bit about photography in the process.

i for those that do not know me from issue 4 of Exclu or instagram my name is Tony Mills a 45yr old father of three from Portsmouth, England. I am a lifelong Star Wars fan and have been collecting action figures and statues for as long as I can remember. I got inspired to start photographing my figures around 4 years ago when I started posting crude shelf pictures of my figures on instagram and soon discovered the amazing community of toy photographers on there, fast forward to present day and I feel honoured to be part of this amazing community of artists who inspire me daily. For those that following me regularly you’ll also know there was only one choice for this feature, Jyn Erso along with her tiny Stormtrooper doll has become a bit of a fan favourite of mine with so many nice comments every time I post a picture of her. I hope you enjoy this new picture of Jyn my aim was to capture a portrait of her in a jungle environment which I shot it in my back garden using some fake plastic ferns and using all practical effects.

became involved in Toy Photography because I wanted to tell a story. Photography is my favorite method of storytelling and action figures are the preferred medium for my narrative. Ultimately, the goal has been to let thee viewer forget that the subject is even a toy. I want my work to be more , I want to sell real emotion, to subliminally depict philosophies, contrast real world conflicts; I want to use a conventional item in an unconventional way. Personally, I dislike labels, but if I were to categorize my style it would be Realism Photography which is making an inanimate objecting look animated. I chose my handle because it encapsulates the desired narrative, a worn out trooper. Some of my favorite scenes to compose are action shots which are prominently highlighted in my gallery. Action Shots are my favorite to develop considering that the process is challenging and the end result is impressive, diverse and immersive. All of my effects are practical meaning they are done in camera, with only a few visual effect exceptions. At the end of the day, Toy Photography, to me, is my approach to clever visual storytelling.

y name is Christian Farlin, aka C.J. I have been a “toy” photographer for around 3 years. I was a stop motion maker that was influenced by many Lego, Megablok, and action figure stop motion makers. As I started to get older, my expectation for my stop motion quality rose, and my time to make them diminished. I was finally old enough to have an Instagram account, which was made around June 17th, 2014. There, I found the accounts of @warviews and @kuhper_, who is now known as @ joshdeleff . I thought it was stunning that you can show an entire story with just one image, so I decided to try it out with my Legos F I G U R E S and Megabloks. I became one of the first members of the unof- Star Wars The Black Series Scarif Squad Leader ficial Megablok community. On October 18th, 2015, I bought Star Wars The Black Series Scarif Trooper my first SWBS 6 inch figure, and I instantly became a fan of the series. For the next couple of years, I slowly expanded from just E Q U I P M E N T being a Megablok account to taking pictures of a variety of fig- iPhone 6s ures. I started my custom figure business on 4/18/16. Recently, a couple of photographers and I created a photographer group @KARATE_CJ called Vader’s Fist Photos.

he toy photography community is a special place, it allows us to create and share photos with each other. The community on Instagram has really provided me a place to share images I love to create, and it’s my primary creative outlet. I’ve met a handful of truly amazing people that have blossomed into friendships that will last a life time! I’ve had a lot of ups and downs throughout my time in the toy community, I appreciate everyone that has supported me all the way through. I’ve made mistakes, no denying in that. hotography is my favourite hobby. I tend to photograph anything that is worth encapsulating on a memory card, viewing onscreen or sharing. I love the immediacy of being able to create an image that stemmed from an idea almost instantly. I am also a big fan of pop culture in general – movies, music, comics, etc. I also love toys in the form of action figures. In my view, I believe that action figures don’t belong in sealed display boxes but in front of cameras and telling stories. I found this perfect combination of photography and toys both intriguing and engaging. Thus, I started photographing my toys or my kids’ toys whenever F I G U R E the urge came up. It was another approach to developing my DamToys SR-71 Black Bird Test Pilot photography skills. Then, in 2012, I discovered Instagram. There, I found a whole community of like-minded individuals shooting E Q U I P M E N T and sharing their images online.I’ve met toy photographers on- Canon EOS 6D : EF24-105mm line and in person which is great! This community fuels creativity, promotes learning, inspires and allows you to participate in your @_TTPS_ own special way.

hough I always liked photography, my passion for Lego has only emerged 5-6 years ago... I had some Lego toys in my childhood but as a grown-up I had completely forgotten about them. I have rediscovered the fun of these toys with the Lego Architecture series which illustrates some famous buildings and landscapes. Since then, my collection has expanded significantly... I am now an AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego). For the last 2 years I have tried to merge my 2 passions by taking photos of Lego in different situations. At the beginning, I have shared my work only with my family and some very close friends. They strongly suggested that I share my pictures with a broader audience. Therefore, during the summer 2017, I have created the bricks. alive account on Instagram. This was the opportunity for me to discover a wide community of toy photographers with very talented people and with a very wide range of skills (light, editing, narrative, close-up, etc...).I mostly use Lego minifigures for my pictures as I love the infinite possibilities offered by them in term of facial expression, clothes, hair style, accessories, etc...

s a clone trooper breaths heavily from wounds sustained from battle, he looks around for an enemy that he cannot see…. Using all his skills as a soldier he faces off with the unseen enemy knowing that his end is near. He would rather die on his feet than on his knees! He is a Clone Trooper of the Galactic Republic. It’s stories like this that I love to tell behind the photos I take. I got into this hobby originally due to my own experiences related to my deployment in Afghanistan but soon after found myself passionate about these clone troopers and the stories I could tell through them! Every time that I am behind the lens of my camera, the environment around me is now in a Galaxy Far Far Away and I can now take the viewer anywhere that I want to! It’s a true experience and a pleasure to have people look at my work and truly like the pictures that were just a concept at one time! I’ve always had a soft spot for 1:6 scale figures, so Hot Toys’ Marvel line has been perfect for me. Toy photography has given me a new way to enjoy my collection that lets me be creative. It’s been fun getting to share that passion with everyone and at the same time see the great shots from other collectors. One of my favorite characters is Spider-Man, so for my photo I chose the Hot Toys Spider-Man Homecoming figure. Those are actually a few of my childhood comics in the back so it was fun to sneak my old collection in there with Spidey.

n 2013 I walked into my first Comic Con in Indianapolis, Indiana. As I was browsing, I saw a Superman action figure and the likeness blew me away. The shop owner offered him to me for $180. He looked amazing but I was not a collector at the time, so I was hesitant and passed. While I was walking around, something kept pulling me back to that booth. I decided to go back and ended up buying my first Hot Toy. I came home ecstatic and immediately started taking pictures of him on my phone. From there, I started an Instagram account to post my photos. I could not believe there was an entire community of people who shared my newfound hobby. I was completely blown away by the talented people that were making works of art out of these toys. At that point, I had never tried photography but I eventually bought all the gear I needed to start taking photos. I have been trying to improve my skills as a toy photographer ever since. It is a fun hobby that has allowed me to meet many amazing people and relive that childhood joy of playing with toys.

t all started for me with Instagram. As soon as I started to explore it I found like minded people who were into action figures and Star Wars. From there I discovered toy photography and my creative side was instantly drawn to it. I started out by using my phones camera and an assortment of apps to add effects and backgrounds. For a long time this worked for me until I craved something better, something more realistic. Once I purchased a DSLR I wanted to try to capture as much as possible in camera to further bring the figures alive. This is when I started creating dioramas and it’s where my photography is today. I like to use a mix of scales and my tastes are varied but ultimately it’s about making that world believable.

s Vader meditates in his chamber his senses heightened as there was a disturbance in the force. Just then his chamber blew apart as a portal opened up to a tall structured figure that wore a gold glove. All he said was “kneel before your god!” As a big kid at heart toy photography was the best thing to ever happen to me! It has allowed me to be creative in so many ways. It has even made me feel like a kid again! In the past when I played with my son Anthony III, I got to set up his toys and watch as his imagination unfolded as he played! Seeing a bigger picture, I began to expand into photography! Taking what I had done as playtime with him drove me into uncharted territories! I have used mostly practical effects for my pictures but have also dabbled into the digital effects here recently! As I continue to expand my skills, I want to be the best I can in this community and push myself for each picture to be better than the last! This hobby has been amazing as my son can share this experience with me as well!

I
have lived my whole life in Canada’s capital of Ottawa, and as a Star Wars fan since the beginning, the franchise has been a big part of my life, both as a kid and as an adult. I discovered the IG toy photography community in late 2015 around the time The Force Awakens opened, and at that time my photos were just simple images of figures posed on the window sill, my desk or the cat tree. It wasn’t until I started following more people on IG that I began to see the cool shots that could be achieved using backgrounds, in-camera lighting and dioramas — all of which I’ve utilized in my Exclu shot. While I do dabble in other franchises like Alien, BSG and Doctor Who from time to time, my primary focus is Star Wars. This hobby is a way to recapture those early days as a youngling when I recreated favourite scenes and dreamed up new scenarios atop my bed, classic Kenner figures in hand. Now, that same imagination is armed with an always-expanding bag of tricks and inspiration that my 7-yearold self could only have dreamed of.

his shot was taken using my Nikon D60 on a 155 MM lens. The figure in question is none other than the fantastic fanstoys quakewave. If you can justify the hefty price tag you’ll find him to be a delightful representation of the original shockwave, sporting LEDs in his eye and cannon arm, a generous amount of diecast metal, and great proportions and weight. All this combined with the minimal amount of paint applications mean that quakewave is perfect for taking out and shooting with, which is why i feature him so frequently.

I started collecting a few years ago and mainly showed photos of my collection to friends and family. But things began to change when I got an Instagram account a little over a year ago. Before I got into the photography hobby I mainly showed off pictures of my collection and other toy collections that I have. I became really inspired especially by the amazing work from many photographers of larger accounts so I decided to give it a shot. When I first started out I would pose a figure on a table and use the toy displays of my walls as the background. The more I practiced, the more I improved. I can’t express how grateful I am for all the close friends I made through this community as well. Everyone has been a great support along the way. I have now reached a point where I have effectively mastered my artistic approach to my style of photography, which is the main thing has changed since my growth.

lot of the time we don’t have much control of the things that happen in life and we all have our mediums to escape. Toy Photography grants me that escape & control that allows me to utilize this thing called an “imagination.” I had a lot of toys as a kid and coincidentally even more as an adult. Playing with toys as a kid; I created epic battle scenes, made up worlds, and even mixed universes. Now as an adult, I’m still doing the same but I have a camera, editing tools, great locations, and Film/Tv Score Compositions which add to my creativity to bring that “scene” to fruition. I love listening to a composition by Hans Zimmer or Ramin Djawadi, let it build a scene in my head, get some figures, do my best to bring that scene to life, capture it, and share it with the growing Toy Photography Community.

New Hope came out on my 8th birthday and I became an instant life-long fan. Like most, I collected as many toys as I could and spent endless hours recreating every scene from the OT. A couple decades later, when I started having kids of my own, I couldn’t wait to introduce them to the extraordinary galaxy far, far away. Once they got a little older, they then introduced me to Instagram – or at least a need to keep a fatherly eye on their feeds. Little did I know, that would lead to the discovery of a whole new galaxy — one made up of toy photography. And like the eight year old me, I was instantly hooked once again. I love the creative outlet it provides along with the connection to an awesome community of genuine, kind and insanely talented people. This particular piece is titled “Dustin’s Dream” and in my mind I hear him saying — Don’t worry Luke, I’ve got this one! I’ve spent the last 25 years in the ad biz in Southeast Michigan where I live with my beautiful wife and three fandom-loving kids.

I’m more of a one sixth scale kit bashing customizer with my favorites to make being Predators, Mercenaries, Jokers, and Star Wars figures. Toy Photography was a away for me to creatively express myself. It was my therapy when I was going through some things in my life and really helped me stay focused and occupied. I prefer to shoot outdoors so there’s nothing like searching parks and city areas for the perfect locations, or any other cool place I stumble across that I can catch some shots at. I collect a lot of different figures, but one sixth scale customs are my favorites to shoot. I’d have to say the best part of it all is meeting and connecting with so many other cool and creative artists from all over the world. I have friends from Brazil, Europe, Asia, everywhere, that’s awesome to me. I chose this shot because it best shows what I do. I have about thirty one sixth scale customs with these six being some of my favorites that represent my ToyVisuals style.

Since then, my style and workflow has improved side by side with my visual effects work. I tend to use toy photography as an outlet for shots I want to create, as during my main job I do digital cleanup work on shots in movies and don’t do much creating of shots themselves. started in figure collecting about 5 years ago, since then I also made some pictures of my figures with the mobile phone without worrying of the lighting, the pose or the setting of the photo. Over the years I learned to better illuminate the photo, to choose a set, to take photos with a reflex camera and to edit them with tools such as Lightroom or Photoshop. All this makes collecting figures an extra reason for me. I find it boring to leave the figure placed in the display case. I think the figures make more sense if they are used for photo shoots.

ello! I’m Ethan or Kitsbricks as you may know me from Instagram! I have done toy photography for about 3 and a half years now with a special emphasis on Lego photography. I took a bit of a break last year, but I’ve been back and rapidly improving over the past 7 months or so. Growing up I always had and still do love Lego. I’ve collected it since I was right around 5ish, and I’ve never looked back since. I’m very active in different Lego and toy photography communities on instagram, and I have made it my goal to upload 2 photos a day for as long as I can. As of late I’ve began to branch out into action figure photography, deciding it for the best that I make use of my collection of them. My goal has always been just to make someone smile with my shots, even if I’ll never know it. I believe that toys and Lego are a wonderful medium for photography simply due to their possibility and the near-endless possibilities. I hope to keep doing this for the foreseeable future.

am actively involved in contribution to the Toy Photography community on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram groups so that people sharing the same passion are able to meet, make friends, to learn and inspire one other. Group members post behind-the-scenes activities of their setups It’s beneficial for fellow toy enthusiasts and general public who want to learn toy photography. In the beginning, I was not specialized into toy photography or photography in general. I did not get the idea of it. But when I met friends with the same passion, I saw my friend photograph and it inspired me to ask myself, how if I do this with my toys in my own way. I am a toy collector, I love collecting action figures especially egg attack action by Beast Kingdom. I am making stories about them through toys photography, so I can express what I want to present my expression through toy photography.

ctions figures have had an incredible influence on my life. As a kid I made stop motion videos with G.I. Joe figures and my dads VHS camcorder. Fast forward 20 years and I’ve got a full time position at Hasbro Inc. where I work as a digital artist on broadcast television commercials for toys. For me toy photography is an escape, a way to recharge, to challenge myself, and express myself through the things I love. My submission is an image Sabine Wren with a custom 3D printed Dark Saber. This image was only slightly modified digitally to add the DarkSaber effect. It is an homage to a wonderful artist who goes by DarthTemoc, who’s work always manages to capture the essence of a moment. My goal as a photographer is to tell a story with a still image. DarthTemoc’s work has been an incredible inspiration to that end.

y name is Eugenio Torres. I’m a 43 years old musician, sound engineer and movie addict living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’ve been an action figure collector for the last 31 years. I haven’t been a collector my whole life, officially I became one the day my parents took me to a family vacation to NY. In the darkest corner of a forgotten comic book store I found the “Mospeada 21 Cyclone Bike by Gakken”. In that moment I discovered admiration and respect for these figures, I saw the beauty in a cultural aspect not all of us were able to see. At the same time the epic battle started (I think all collectors fight the same war): to open or not to open the box!!! Many years and a million toys later, as a grown man, I found the most beautiful, amazing and fun excuse to unbox and play with my figures. Since then I’ve been working, studying and practicing on how to develop a language, a style that allows me to visually capture action figures not only the way I see them, but also the way I imagine them. Thanks to Exclucollective I have the opportunity to show you

ike every child growing up, I just loved toys. Growing up in the mid-eighties/early nineties I was completely obsessed with collecting action figures from my favourite cartoons and movies. As the years rolled on my enthusiasm for collecting toys never waned and by the time I reached adulthood I had amassed a substantial collection of toys from my favourite genres. As time went on and technology advanced so too did the toys being produced. Childhood favourite toy brands like Kenner, Playmates and Mattel quickly gave way to a new generation of ultra-realistic looking figures that were produced by McFarlane, Mezco and NECA which in recent years have given me access to excellent figures based on characters from my favourite films. Toys for big boys (and girls) you might say. I have been practicing toy photography for the last two years and it has become as much a favourite hobby of mine as collecting. For me it is pure escapism and it brings me back to a time when I would play with my toys as a child.

’ve always loved action figures and storytelling. The first time I wrote a story was so that I could recreate the dramatic moments in between the “battle scenes” of my playtime. I never really liked my photography before. I didn’t like what I was shooting and didn’t think I was very good at it. I used to take random photos of my toys just for myself but when I got the Sphero BB-8 it all just kind of clicked. I could tell a story with the image and a lot inspiration came after that realization. Star Wars is always fun to shoot but I definitely found a new muse from the Figma figures. I started writing stories that were much more personal. Just like my toy collection, the more I add to it the more it grows and I along with it.

’m Chris “Checkers” from Boston MA. Though I’m lucky enough to do a lot of my photography on nearby Cape Cod. As I’ve said before I owe a huge thank you to my daughter for helping me stumble into this hobby. It was her habit from an early age to create dioramas with her toys that got me to start taking pictures and doing more intricate set ups with toys. I then started posting some of the pics on Instagram and through searching of hashtags found this fantastic online realm of toy photography. It all really opened my eyes to what was possible in toy photography and the levels of realism that were achievable . It’s still to this day an incredible outlet for my energies and helps keep me out of any real mischief! It’s great to be a part of a community that is so incredibly supportive and helpful. It’s refreshing compared to most other “social groups” that are out there.

ey... how are you supposed to start one of these things. My name is Brett, I’m just now 30 years old and grew up a nerd when it wasn’t acceptable to be one and grow up simultaneously. Then all of sudden it was, super Hero movies left and right Star Wars every year and I’m in floating on a cloud. I got into collecting figures again during the Force Friday before The Force Awakens came out. I’ve always enjoyed figures and upon snagging a First Order Trooper (when I couldn’t find an elusive Phasma) I took to social media to share my nerdage. Very soon I accidentally stumbled upon the Toy/Figure Photography community and was blown away. I’ve made a couple groups of great friends and been blown away by the acceptance the community shows to one another. These people and this hobby have helped me find some control during my life’s most difficult and most stressful moments. With the birth of my son James and help from my wife, I got back into figure photography and have been very happy with the support and how much the community has continued to grow.

s an aspiring filmmaker, I enjoy telling and experiencing stories in various forms, from films to series, books to comics, video games to tabletop roleplaying games. And in 2015, I discovered storytelling through toy photography. The Hot Toys Marty McFly from Back to the Future was my first one-sixth scale action figure, and I was blown away by the likeness, the paint job, and the tailoring. I never knew such quality existed in licensed toys before. I was introduced to a whole new world of tangible, artistic creations linking me to my favorite franchises and a community of passionate fans. Being adults, licensed toys do still fulfill a similar purpose as to when we were kids: they allow us to interact with the spirit of a franchise and stir our memories and bring them to life on the table. In posing action figures and sharing scenes with other people, we engage in a dialogue about our favorite characters. And in so doing, the toy community celebrates the stories that have shaped us as people, and it makes those stories more personal, articulated, and truly alive.

love action figures. I have been into action figures since my first Star Wars figures (Vader and Chewie) in 1978 and after that I was hooked. Action figure photography is a fun and unique way to share your collection and interact with other people like myself who dig toys. It is also great stress relief. I work in the juvenile court system which generally consists of a daily litany of horrible things done to children. Taking pictures of action figures that I like and sharing them with other toy enthusiasts in the IG toy community serves as a great pressure release valve.

he Toy photography community truly changed my lifestyle. Before all that I was a regular psychology major aspiring to find an outlet for my creative cravings. I buried my dreams of becoming a filmmaker under a pile of responsibilities as a social worker and didn’t really have much on my plate, creative-wise... until I found Instagram. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd so naturally, my adventure with Toy Photography started by following work of my fellow Force aficionados and it wasn’t long after I decided to try the game myself. After a couple of months, I gave myself a crash course in photography, colour grading and CGI. My goal was always to create dramatic shots, capturing my subjects right in the middle of the action. Soon, hearty use of sparklers and lens flares became one of my signatures and the most cherished asset. After more than 3 years and 400 posts, I am here, among other 99 extraordinary individualsI am just happy to be a part of all this.

`m an 80:s kid that was born into the Star Wars era. Of course that gave me early feelings for the saga that later grew into love. Today I´m a father of one amazing little son and working security and studying to become a police officer. Joining this communty happened by accident, accident is maybe the wrong word to use, but it was just by posting a picture of Boba Fett that I came across it all and I was hooked immediately. After a while the love for collecting Star Wars figs grew and I even started taking shots of other stuff outside the Star Wars galaxy. The community welcomed me with open arms and it still does to everyone who wants to be a part of it. The helpfulness is amazing and people do collaborations, giveaways and other great stuff to keep the magic going. All this and tips and tricks from all the other great people here are still inspiring me every day to go out and take shots and to try new stuff and to evolve. It´s a living entity and I´m proud to call me a member of it.

y name is Cesar I was born in Mexico City back in 1975 and have worked in the retail business for more than twenty years. I have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember and have been collecting toys since childhood. All my toys are from a galaxy far, far away. All from Hasbro except for a few Lili Ledy 3.75 inch figures from back in the day. I started in toy photography very recently, 7 months ago actually. I like to have my collection displayed and last year I worked on a Yavin Rebel Hangar Diorama for my 3.75 figures and ships. When the dio was all done is when I started taking pictures of it. So by the end of last year I really got into the hobby of toy photography by moving on to take pictures of my other figures and ships aside from the ones in the Yavin diorama.I had an old Instagram account that I almost never used to post pics and started posting my toy pics. I really enjoy this hobby and expect to improve as time goes by, I am very happy for the friends I’ve made in the community and I appreciate the work from other toy photographers

t’s more than just toy photography. It’s what these toys mean, what they stand for. The story behind each one, that’s what’s important to me. Even the most hated villain has a story. Capturing these stories in a single figure image, or mashing them together in a comical, nonsensical way is mine. Ever since the first time I saw Back To The Future (probably 1989ish) I was hooked on sci-fi, nerd pop culture. I would sit with my Uncle and my Grandfather watching Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and playing pitfall on Atari for weekends at a time. Ah, the good old days. I loved them. This art form brings me back to that same feeling I had 30 years ago. The wonder and awe of it all. Toy photography keeps this excitement for great story’s and great storytelling alive in me. Toy photography is imagination.

I remember scrolling through the Spiderman tag on Instagram and came across an awesome shot by @vansman that absolutely blew me away and the rest is history. I’ve managed to make some real friends out of a stellar group of collectors, photographers and artists which makes me appreciate our hobby so much more. I have no plans on stopping anytime soon and definitely look forward to continuing learning, putting out solid work and watching the evolution of toy photography.I started out just shooting inside, with simple poses and no effects (practical or digital). These days I shoot almost exclusively outside and try to use as much nature to capture the “essence” as possible. Everything in this shot is practical; the water splash, the blood and the debris.

remember when I first discovered toy photography. I was completely entranced and inspired by the way so many incredible artists can make some old toys look so real. I had an enormous pile of Lego figures and a couple Star Wars figures lying around and decided to try my hand. Unfortunately, I’ve been on a budget since I started and haven’t been able to get my hands on a high end DSLR or any proper photoshop elements. As a result, I rely heavily on cinematic angles and to have the figures and background tell the story for me instead of having fancy explosions do the talking. Many people these days struggle to find healthy hobbies. Toy photography gives me justification too keep buying toys as an adult, and do something creative and constructive with them.

As times goes on my figure amount also increasing slowly, mostly Figma but I also shot some Pokemon figure, danbo and lego . Finally I ended up with wide variety of figure to shot. Since I love watching movies and anime, I bought one action figure, and try to take a photo of it. It turns out very fun, and I’m addicted to it. Later I found toys community on Instagram. Right now, I shot mostly 6-inch figure like SHFiguarts, Figma & Marvel Legends. I do various style for my photography including indoor and outdoor shot, applying practical effect, and adding visual effects with Photoshop. To contribute and helping all fellow photographers, I made a YouTube channel which contains editing tutorial and photography tips & trick.

hat I love about toy photography is that it extends that movie or television show or comic that you like watching or reading over and over again. In the palm of your hands, you can relive your favorite, or alter that same scene the way you think it should have gone. It stimulates the creative juices in your brain in a way that makes you happy, and when done right (or what you think is right), you can actually see that thought right before your eyes. It’s a bit exhilarating when you think about it. That rush is something I look forward to when setting up a shot. And people happen to like it as well, which is equally exhilarating. And then when you see a shot by another artist that blows your mind, it sets the bar up even higher. Toy photography becomes an emotional rollercoaster at some point, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I just hope the creative juices in my brain flows as long as I can afford buying all these action figures to shoot!

’ve been in the photography game for over 11 years now. My preferred genres are Portraiture and Street Photography, but I still remember the exact moment I really got into Toy Photography. It was the beginning of 2014 when I purchased my very first Hot Toys figure: The Dark Knight Rises DX12 Batman. I’d never owned a figure of that scale before, and I was floored by the surprisingly good sculpt and detail. This 12 inch figure was on a totally different level though, and I immediately had the urge to do justice to its realistic design by photographing it in the same way as I would a real person. My style of Toy Photography has been fairly consistent for the most part, with some minor experimental phases here and there. My fascination on using minimal/available lighting within my Portraiture and Street work, carried over to how I visually approach my Toy Photography. Toy Photography has not only added another creative outlet for me, but it’s also helped me further develop a better understanding of photography as a whole.

’m a Toy photographer based out of southern California. When I first started my instagram account I would just post random things from my collection or the progress of my ANH stormtrooper build to join the 501st with my phone nothing great. But it wasnt until later on that one of the persons I was following was joining the toypops sessions.I didnt quite understand what it was until I followed the tag he was using and was immediately blown away. So many people day after day posting their toys in different settings lighting etc not just in the sessions but on a regular. I wanted to be part of it! For years ive been collecting and just displaying my toys at home but I wanted to do the same and show what I could do.It took me some time to get good gear and understand what it takes to try and bring my figs to life in some way. Something im still working on but enjoy doing.

’m extremely proud to have a chance to present this image and be part of the 100 Project. When I first started out in the toy community I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on my life. Everything from the people to the community support just emanates positivity and inspiration. This composition of Iron Man is a culmination of many long months of learning from fellow photographers, practicing new techniques and trying to improve my photography and my skills have developed from simple studio photography to using dynamic effects, new lighting techniques and now creating digital art and this community has helped me every step of the way, through depression, mental and creative blocks, even my battle with cancer. This is why I’m proud to be a toy photographer and why it’s such a unique and amazing corner of the photography world.

was an illustrator and I was waiting for my chance to work for Marvel Comics. But a “grown up career in Real Estate kind of happened before Marvel could notice my mediocre talent. A few years later I discovered that photography was what truly made me happy and after discovering this unique toy community on Instagram it was only natural that I started photographing all these cool toys that I owned. I remember seeing the work of Trevor Williams, Alex Brooks, Ryan Fogg, and Rob Wood and being blown away by these images they created. So here I am today only a slightly better toy photographer than I was an illustrator. I am honored to be part of this toy community and even more honored to join 99 other photographers in this feature.

I
first started toy photography in my early teenage years, when I would photograph my 4” Star Wars figures on old disposable cameras. Since then my passion and hobby has evolved along with my various action figure and statue collections. I am a long time reader of DC Comics and the majority of my work focuses on the heroes and villains of the DCU. I’ve always loved the process of creating these miniature worlds and narrative and find it hugely satisfying seeing a small set of 6” figures transform into a life-like scene. I have chosen an image to capture the heroism of my favourite heroes, using the DC Icons figures. A line I have a particular soft spot for. I hope my passion for toy photography continues to grow, along with the incredible friends in the community I have been lucky enough to make along the way.

t’s more than just toy photography.

Between working as a computer engineer and running triathlons, he maintains his collection and works on new photographs. Action figure photography has provided Gates a creative outlet to use his collection and practice photography outside of pictures of his pets. He enjoys improving his skills by experimenting with new dioramas and props as well as refining his lighting techniques and digital editing. Gates is excited by the opportunity of the Exclu 100 Project to present his work to a wider audience through a publication he has enjoyed reading since its inception. ather. Husband. Stormtrooper. That’s usually how I describe myself in social media. My family and I are huge Star Wars fans; take the day off work for opening day of the new movie type of fans! I’m actually a member of the 501st Canadian Garrison! I used to shoot 35mm film using manual lenses back in the day, but for many, many years I stopped. Then someone gave me a Stormtrooper figure at Christmas time and now I just can’t quench that thirst which has become my creative outlet. The toy community is fantastic, everyone is supportive and encouraging and so many talented artists inspire and challenge me daily – it’s awesome! I selected this image because for me, I find the Scout trooper is one of the most well designed and photogenic figures. They pose very nicely with the arm/wrist articulation and have that iconic outline. The Scout trooper was made to get down into the mud – not afraid to get his armour dirty, and that’s what I was trying to capture here with the fresh rain soaked fields and cloudy skies.

reativity is a means to express yourself and share with the world what you are passionate about. In my case, I am passionate about toy photography! I spend my days as an account manager for an awesome eCommerce company in Atlanta, and in my free time, I play with toys. Silly, right? I have been collecting and photographing toys for over 8 years now. Amassing quite a varied collection of pieces - from Star Wars to DC Comics to Marvel and everything in-between. I get to use the photography skills I learned in college and expand on them, taking my toys everywhere. Toy photography has allowed me to explore my inner child, to test my skills, to expand my horizons. And the best part, all the cool toy designers and collectors I have met along the way!

have been meaning to get into toy photography for years. It’s never been a lack of resources that has stopped me (I have closet full of Star Wars, Marvel, and Ninja Turtle toys that say otherwise). My biggest hesitation has always been whether or not I would be taken seriously as a toy photographer. Watching the toy photography community grow on Instagram and spill out over other parts of the internet has given me the motivation to really sink my teeth in. That, and my loving wife, who lets me buy toys and equipment and tells me she thinks what I do is “cool.” Thank you to the Exclu Collective for letting me get me share my work and be a part of their community. And if you live in Utah, drop me a line and let’s go shoot!

One day I decided that I didn’t want to just sit on the sidelines so I went outside with some figures in one hand and my phone in the other, and so began my amazing journey into this even more amazing hobby and community. I
’m Julien, e-learning and serious game designer from Toulouse, France. As a pop culture enthusiast born in the early 80s, I had the chance to grow up with fantastic toy lines allowing me to relive and/or extend the stories of my heroes’ universes. I’ve started toy photography nearly 3 years ago just for fun, but little by little, I have been thrilled by the possibilities and all the artistic side that comes along. The picture I’ve made is a kind of summary of what I like with toy photography. Tamashii Movie Realization toy line is currently my favorite one, I discovered it thanks to fellows photographers. I like to use practical FX as much as possible and limit myself concerning VFX (even if it’s convenient in some cases). Every time it’s possible, I try to put a sense of movement and dynamism (mainly through lighting and/or posing). To conclude I would say that, apart from the artistic and creative point of view, what thrills me with this hobby, is its community, composed of supportive, inspiring and willing to share people.

’m a professional graphic designer and independent photographer, who’s got a passion for building LEGO models and collecting vintage Transformers. Toy photography gives me the chance to showcase my vast LEGO collection as well as my rare collectibles. I’ve been building custom LEGO creations since early childhood, and I’ve been a fan of the Transformers since the same age. In my LEGO creations especially, I like to incorporate elements from other fandoms such as Transformers, video games, and Disney. Currently I’m using my talents of toy photography to film a stop-motion animated short movie inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, featuring a new twist on an old classic, and blended with a lot of my eccentric quirks. It’s my ultimate goal to someday become an art director for a major toy company that allows my creative talents to thrive, so that I can share my creativity with future generations.

ello, my name is Anthony, from Northern California.Photography in general is not new to me but I started toy photography over a year ago. I’m mainly self-taught and continue to practice different techniques to improve my work. The daily grind at work always involves fixing something that is broke. In response to that, I primarily practice this hobby to get away from fixing things and instead create art. Due to my introverted personality, I usually fly under the radar on social media and tend to keep a low profile. I still have anxiety when sharing my work and when engaging with the Toy Community. I hope to work on this more in the future.

I
’ve been a keen hobbyist photographer for awhile and when a good friend of mine introduced me to the toy photography world on Instagram, I was intrigued by the incredible art that’s out there. (Perhaps being a physiotherapist by trade has a part to play as I do enjoy anatomy and posing figures.) Spider-Man is my all time favourite superhero character - unmasked he is awkward but when masked, he is confident, humorous and carries a strong sense of righteous responsibility. With my images, I’m intentional in being positive and having them suitable for all ages. It may sound naive but I do believe art can have a huge impact and I do hope to be a positive presence in the sometimes crazy social media world. The things that draw me to toy photography are the fun and photography, however, the community aspect has to be the best part of it all. I chose this image as it represents the leap into this awesome hobby. I’ve been interested in realism and texturing of late and have added these in the image as well.

hotography and photo retouching has been my everyday life since I work in a small wedding photography company in 2007. Until now, I always doing things related to photography. I found my interest on toy photography in 2015 when I was browsing on Instagram and made me curious because I’m collecting toy long before joining Instagram. Since then, I made my own account just for toy photography only, follow many toy photographers, try to experiment with my own toys, and joining toy photography community. Exclu collective has been one of my favorite communities on Instagram. I found a lot of inspiration and knowledge about toy photography from their feed. It’s always fun to take photograph with toys, mostly because they can’t complain if I took a lot of time just to set lighting or create a scene, it’s totally different if you photograph people.

’m involved in the toy photography community as it lets me bring my imagination to life. I began in August of 2016 after following the popular Star Wars The Black Series page on Instagram and seeing what people were creating. I’ve been collecting action figures for years and I have a smartphone with a camera so everything fell into place that year. Since 2016, I’ve experimented with almost everything, ranging from different angles, practical effects, and backgrounds to make my photos feel as if they’re from a movie or video game. I’m constantly improving but I have to admit that I really enjoy being a toy photographer.

long time ago in a city in Southern California, a young boy discovers Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Marvel Comics. His fate would forever be changed from this moment forward. Always on the look out for that ever elusive thing sitting at the top of his want list. The thrill of the hunt is so addicting that it keeps him roaming the shelves (and the internet) for collectibles till this day…At every phase of my life, whether it be my childhood or adulthood, I’ve always had a galaxy filled with turtles, decepticons, mutants and sith to retreat to. I was on Instagram and came across work by @sgtbananas and @hot.kenobi. They revealed to me a way that I could express my love of collecting with my passion for photography. I began to post shots and quickly learned that there was a vast toy photography community of awesome humans putting out fire!!! (posting great photos…not real fires). Toy photography has showed me that there are others that inhabit this galaxy I’ve been visiting my whole life, and that its not far, far away…

am an Australian who is currently residing in Indonesia. ( I was born in Indonesia but I grew up in Australia). Currently, I work in a logistic field. Toy-photography for me is a channel to release my creativity. I am quite a creative person, so I needed to channel and harness that creativity into something. I have always loved action figures when I was a kid. I would play with my action figure, creating stories as I put them into action. With toy-photography, I feel like I am the director of whatever scenes I want to create. I only started toy photography for about a year or so. At first, I was just collecting action figures. But then I started looking at toy-photography and was especially impressed with ACBA. The reason why I love doing ACBA, its because the challenges that one can face when trying to execute a scene. Since it is all practical, even a simple action such as running or jumping can provide a whole lot of challenges in itself. Since I do not know how to use photo-shop, ACBA style suited me best. There is still so much to learn and I absolutely love it.

y name is Eric Ronnebeck and I’m from Seattle, Washington. Toys have been a part of my life since I was 5 years old; starting with GI Joe, Masters of the Universe, and Transformers. I received my first camera when I was 8 years old but the two hobbies didn’t intermix in my life until I discovered the toy photography community in 2014. Not wanting to copy anyone’s style, it took some time for me to discover what and how I like to shoot but I’m happy with the stories I’m telling and what I’m creating. Taking photos of toys is fun but it’s become a lot more than that for me. Getting to know other artists in the community has become something I look forward to. The toy community is a wonderful thing to be part of. Putting your shots out there for all to see is fun and all but becoming friends with and learning from the great artists we have in this community is even better. I’ve met up with photographers in other states as well as in my own state and it’s made for some great experiences.

y interest in toy photography began a few years ago with my Godzilla and Lego collections. Nothing serious, just something to do to pass the time. Eventually, I decided to try taking pictures outdoors, because I had been inspired by other toy photographers who were doing the same. This time, my focus shifted to some of my older Star Wars figures and a few Stranger Things toys. Eventually I became more and more interested in the composition of the shots and how the figures are represented and what kind of scenes they are put in. I started to use more Star Wars figures, mostly from the Black Series line. I decided to start an Instagram account dedicated to my photos, because I was getting positive feedback from what I had done. I found a whole community surrounding toy photography. Everyone was so positive and encouraging which made me want to continue with my creative efforts. Not only is it great to get the feedback but it’s also inspiring to see all the other photos and the creativity that people put into them.

basically started doing photography when I was 7 years old with LEGO Stop Motion movies. Alongside making LEGO movies, I liked to take pictures of my toys and action figures. What I like to collect the most is Star Wars, Doctor Who, and LEGO. Each of these are very dear to me and have had a major impact on my life. I can vividly remember the first time I watched Doctor Who back in 2005, it was the season finale episode “The Parting of Ways.” When I saw a Dalek for the first time (and the Dalek Emperor of course) I was amazed. I was so mesmerized by their shape, bronze/gold color, lights, and especially their voice. To this day I still love everything about them and to me the Daleks are the greatest and most iconic villain in TV history. To showcase my love for them, I present to you the Classic 1960’s Dalek. I’ve been wanting to submit a Dalek photo to Exclu for a long time and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I’m extremely happy with the results and I hope you enjoy it as well. I’d like to thank the Toy Photography Community for their awesome support.

have been doing toy photography for a few years and still have a lot to learn. I was introduced to this hobby from my cousin, and he is one of many toy photographers I take inspiration from for my photos, along with comics, movies, and concept art. The majority of my shots and collection are from the Star Wars and Marvel universes. Toy photography is a way for me to relive my childhood, “play with toys, build my collection, as well as hone my photography skills. All my shots are practical and done with little to no photo editing. I try to adjust the lights with different colours and angles, as well as play around with different camera settings to achieve what I am looking to create in the scene. What makes toy photography fun for me is that I can use my imagination and just step into the world of the characters.

began toy photography two years ago at the age of 17. My interest in photography was sparked when I got an iPhone 5s and used it to take photos. I started to experiment with my Star Wars figures and was then hooked on toy photography. I started to collect figures solely for the purpose of taking photos. Gradually, I moved from taking static shots of figures to trying to create photos that told stories. I used my love of Star Wars, and my imagination to attempt to bring to life combat related scenes. My goal was to always create a photo that was realistic enough to look like it was a screenshot from a science fiction film or TV show. Once I started using practical effects, I started to be able to showcase what I had in my imagination.
