Located in market towns, each hotel has a place in English history; from raffish goings on at Lainston House, our fairy tale of The Manor House in World Heritage site Castle Combe, the noted formal Japanese gardens at Fanhams Hall to South Lodge, one of Winston Churchill’s favourite retreats.
We don’t sit in the past; we’re creating new legacies too: like Pennyhill Park, home to England Rugby, which is fast becoming a centre of excellence where elite teams engage, train, and learn winning techniques.
The focus on employee mental health and wellbeing in the workplace means every event we host needs to also support delegate wellbeing.
We’ve studied circadian rhythms and cortisol highs to enhance events and the delegate experience. As a consequence, each hotel has practices that promote networking and wellbeing. For example, we’ve launched a nature immersion experience on our estates, inspired by Shinrin-yoku, to improve health and happiness.
We also encourage the use of evidence -based therapies in meetings. At our cookery school, culinary therapy helps delegates develop patience, organisational skills, and confidence.
We’re committed to bringing purpose to our business and we challenge, change, and champion everything we do to ensure a positive impact. We’ve amended our Articles of Association at Companies House to give demonstrable annual changes, gains, and plans around our purpose and practices.
We link our supply chain with our purpose and spend over £1.5m annually on fellow B Corp products and services.
Partnering with Land App, we track biodiversity and carbon capture across our 691 acres so we can support and enhance the local habitats of our seven locations.
We use biomass, renewable and clean energy resources and we combat fossil fuel use. Any electricity we must purchase comes from renewable sources. We focus on reducing mains water consumption and invest in grey water technology and boreholes.
Our 850+ team is guided by our Respect Charter which encourages everyone to speak up and have their say through our employee app. Our team’s welfare is of utmost importance, we look to promote from within and have strong development plans in place for our people including our Graduate Academy and Chefs’ Academy.
Communication is our watchword, and through our internal company app, Hubbub, we share each hotel’s activities and highlight our employees’ good deeds.
We impact wider communities by giving a minimum 2% of our profits annually to charity. Supporting local and national charities, and giving every employee a paid volunteer day annually.
A home of discovery

WARE, HERTFORDSHIRE
Fanhams Hall, a Jacobean mansion north of London in Hertfordshire, always buzzes with activity.
Built as a private house in the 18th century, it was later enlarged and encased in stone to resemble a Jacobean country house. The interiors are Arts and Crafts style, with an historic Long Gallery and Great Hall available for dinners or meetings.
Under Lady Brocket’s ownership (1934-1949), the grounds were transformed with a focus on Japanese horticulture, featuring ornamental lakes, maples, and a Japanese tea house. The Queen Anne style architecture and beautiful grounds attract movie clientele from nearby Elstree Studios and Warner Bros. Studio.
For high-octane company retreats, Fanhams Hall offers an energy zone, break-out rooms, characterful meeting rooms, and outdoor spaces. Talented chefs keep guests satisfied, and comfortable bedrooms ensure restful stays. The activity field is perfect for team building, and with high ropes, zoo conservation, and white water rafting nearby too, there’s plenty to entertain your people, followed by dinner and drinks at the bar.
Local attractions include Knebworth House, a Grade II* listed treasure, and Harry Potter World, welcoming muggles and hotel guests alike.

We even have a cookery school, which is a huge draw for foodies and some of Britain’s best loved chefs and bakers.

We place pads and pencils at the back of your event space to be used only when needed, reducing waste.
Our bottled waters are environmentally friendly; glass is easier to recycle, and sourcing from the nearby South Downs minimises transport.
Through event:decision, we provide organisers with formalised processes to plan, deliver, and track their event impact.
We collect water from half-used bottles in meeting rooms and bedrooms, transferring it to water butts for use around our estates.
Our food is seasonal and British, sourced from local artisans, growers, and suppliers.
We focus on growing our own ingredients with kitchen gardens across our estates.
We work with Klimato to show the carbon footprint of each menu item, helping organisers make informed decisions and contribute to their ESG policies.
We eat root to flower or compost leftovers. Food waste is separated and sent to anaerobic digestion or Rocket Composters at South Lodge and Lainston House.
Our coffee supplier safeguards growers, repurposes grounds and packaging, and turns grounds into logs for our fires.
We use British milled flour, free-range eggs, and recycled British rapeseed oil. We favour Silver Spoon sugar from domestic sugar beet and avoid palm oil.
Our fish is listed on the Marine Conservation website to protect endangered species.
Molton Brown provides our guest room amenities, using refillable large bottles to reduce single-use plastic.
We have phased out shower caps as removing and recycling them has a greater impact.
Single use sewing kits are being replaced with larger kits available upon request.
Plastic milk jiggers have been replaced with small glass bottles.
We’ve switched to compostable bin liners in bedrooms and bathrooms.
