WELCOME
GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO TODAY’S GALLAGHER PREMIERSHIP GAME AGAINST HARLEQUINS.
It doesn’t feel all that long since the start of the season and here we are at our last home game of the 2023/24 season. It’s been quite a journey for our young squad.
With talent, determination and hard-work on their side, this Chiefs squad has already competed in a Premiership Cup semi-final and an Investec Champions Cup quarterfinal. And today will help to determine whether a top four spot in the Premiership is also on the cards.
I would like to commend our players, coaches and back-room staff for everything they have already achieved this year. This is a squad with real promise, and I believe it is one which will be competing on the big stage for a good number of years to come.
We have continued to announce our player re-signings for the 2024/25 season, and I would like to remind everyone that a season ticket is the perfect way to ensure
you are there to watch every game at home next season to see your favourite players in action.
I would like to personally thank our supporters for their dedicated support this season. We have welcomed a handful of sell-out crowds throughout the year and your continued support at Sandy Park has created a fantastic atmosphere for our squad to run out in front of.
Finally, please join me in extending a very warm welcome to the Harlequins directors, coaches, players and supporters. We hope you have a fantastic day at Sandy Park.
TONY ROWE CBE
CHAIRMAN AND CEO
EXETER RUGBY CLUB
ROB BAXTER OBE
WELCOME TO SANDY PARK FOR OUR LAST HOME GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON.
It is still mathematically possible for us to enter the top two but this is now unlikely, so we are focused on making sure that we give a performance for our home fans that we can be proud of and gets us excited about being here again next season and the journey a new season might bring.
The supporters club will be awarding their player of the year post-match and the players will also do a lap of the pitch to thank you for your support, so please stay and acknowledge their appreciation of the efforts you make.
The best thing about this weekend is that the competition is still exciting for us. Our aim every year is to be in these competitions for as long as we can and although our last home game against Bath Rugby was always going to be pivotal, things are still far from decided in the Premiership and it still feels like there is a lot to play for.
Our last performance away at Gloucester –where we claimed 5 points – really kept us alive and now we have two great opportunities to test the level of improvement we have made this season but also put some markers forward for next year.
We want to be a team on the up, one that looks and feels like it is only getting better. My aim is for us to grow individually and collectively for a long time but we need to work hard at getting better, not just hope it happens!
I’d like to personally say thank you for your support this season, especially those of you who have been there at away games, when we have had some tough results. I hope you feel that the players care and are doing their best and please stay on the journey as there are good times ahead.
Finally, I would like to welcome Danny Wilson, his staff, players and the supporters of Harlequins to Sandy Park.

HEPBURN, DEVOTO AND STEENSON TO DEPART CHIEFS
It has been announced that at the conclusion of the season club stalwarts Alec Hepburn, Ollie Devoto and Gareth Steenson will depart Sandy Park.
Front rower Hepburn will join Welsh URC side Scarlets after a decorated career as a Chief. In 10 seasons, he amassed 179 appearances and seven tries as well as a Champions Cup and two Premiership titles.
Somerset-born centre Devoto will move on after eight seasons, 127 appearances and 21 tries in the era of three titles – two domestic and one European – for Chiefs.
Fan-favourite Steenson returns to Northern Ireland as a legendary part of Chiefs’ journey. The man who kicked the promotion-clinching points, who replicated that winning feat for the maiden league title and has been integral to all the success Chiefs experienced in the aftermath walks away with 312 appearances and 2,593 points to his name.
The club would like to sincerely thank all three men for everything they have given to the Chiefs shirt, and we wish them the very best of luck for their future adventures.

SIO COMMITS TO CHIEFS
Loosehead prop Scott Sio has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.
Arriving at Sandy Park in the summer of 2022 for his first taste of rugby outside of Australia, the physical front rower has flourished in a Chiefs shirt. Already having clocked 41 Chiefs appearances, Sio believes there are still some career highlights to come.
“I’m really excited to be staying on at Chiefs and to see what the future holds for this group.
“There are lots of younger players coming through and I hope to continue to be part of their development while also growing as a player and person here in Exeter.
“The club wants to contend for trophies and be successful, which is something I want to be a part of and is a big reason for my re-signing.”
END OF SEASON AWARDS
The Exeter Chiefs End of Season Awards evening was held at Sandy Park last night and we would like to thank everyone who joined the celebration of our men’s and women’s season.

WOMEN'S ALLIANZ PWR FINAL TO BE HELD AT SANDY PARK
THE ALLIANZ PREMIERSHIP WOMEN’S RUGBY FINAL 2024
WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY 22 JUNE AT SANDY PARK STADIUM IN EXETER.
Building on the huge success of last year's showpiece event, the 2024 Final will showcase the best of women’s rugby, to crown the inaugural Allianz Premiership Women's Rugby champions.
Following a competitive tendering process, where all Premiership Women’s Rugby clubs were invited to bid, Sandy Park was the unanimous choice to host the final.
Sandy Park Stadium is also one of eight venues to host a Women’s Rugby World Cup match in 2025 and has previously staged Red Roses games in front of more than 10,000 fans.
Belinda Moore, Chief Executive of Premiership Women’s Rugby said: “Everyone will remember the incredible 2023 Final at the newly-named Queensholm Stadium and we are expecting another great day for women’s sport in England this June, targeting a crowd of more than 10,000 this year.”
Tickets have gone on sale for the final, starting at £5 for adults (with early bird pricing) and all junior tickets are just £5.
Loyal supporters of local businesses and communities for over 90 years, we help our clients face the future with greater confidence. THE GALLAGHER WAY. SINCE 1927.
HARLEQUINS AT SANDY PARK WAS A STANDOUT GAME FOR CHRIST TSHIUNZA LAST SEASON. THIS YEAR, HE IS LOOKING TO PUT HIS BEST PERFORMANCE ON THE PITCH HAVING RECENTLY RETURNED FROM INJURY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE RUGBY WORLD CUP.
Sidelined with a foot injury was not how the Welsh international expected to spend the majority of his season having landed back on Devon soil from France in October. Toiling away in rehab, Tshiunza made his comeback during the Guinness Six Nations international break a couple of months ago and has been competing for selection since.
“Since making my return from injury, I’ve just been trying to make the most of the time we’ve got left as a group. Missing that much rugby while injured meant I didn’t get that much time with the boys, but now that the sun is out and I’m back out training, I’m trying to make the most of every moment.”
In the Chiefs ranks, competition is rife among fellow talented youngsters Daffyd Jenkins, Rusi Tuima, Ethan Roots and Greg Fisilau. However, the Welshman says there is nothing but respect amongst the teammates vying for the same shirt.
“I think the second and back row competition is massive, it’s exciting. It’s good because all it does is
POSITION: LOCK
HEIGHT: 1.98M (6FT 6IN)
WEIGHT: 114KG (17ST 9LBS)
make us push each other. It’s competitive amongst us but we’ve all got a very healthy relationship in which we respect each other and understand we can’t all play at once.
“We’ve got really good international back rowers now, so I look forward to the competition because I think it will push us all to be the best versions of ourselves.”
The environment fostered by this current Chiefs squad not only allows competition but bonds between teammates to thrive. Tshiunza believes a lot of the success seen on-pitch can be relayed back to the strength of relationships in the changing rooms.
And so, as recent weeks have been filled with the news of teammates committing their futures to the squad, he says the excitement is building at the prospect of remaining on the journey with such a close-knit group.
“I think the biggest compliment to give to Rob [Baxter] is that the type of boys he’s picked to represent this club, we’re a really close group – we’re like one massive family that really does look after each other.
“I think age is a massive thing as, we’re pretty much all best mates now and I think that’s what Rob likes because that’s what he had when he played alongside his brother. I think that’s just the Exeter way and I really like it.
“It’s like being back at school – you work alongside your friends and then you go out in the playground with your friends.”
“IT’S COMPETITIVE AMONGST US BUT WE’VE ALL GOT A VERY HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP IN WHICH WE RESPECT EACH OTHER AND UNDERSTAND WE CAN’T ALL PLAY AT ONCE.”
Stainless steal.
In 1972, famed designer Gérald Genta created an oxymoron. Priced more than many precious metal rivals, the ‘luxury stainless steel timepiece’ was not an immediate success. But eventually its tough, elegant body, integrated bracelet and patterned dial caught on. A watch that dressed up for dinner. Or down, at the pool. Today’s 40mm, base automatic of that original watch costs £22,850 more than the new ‘Twelve’ - named for its dodecagon-sided bezel and rear lock ring. Our watch is thinner, goes deeper and offers a choice of C1/BL Grade X1-lumed dials. A polished, brushed and sandblasted case of daylight (and night time) robbery?
Do your research.

FROM THE PRESS BOX
ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON, I HAD THE JOY AND PRIVILEGE OF SPENDING TWO HOURS IN THE COMPANY OF PRESENTER GREG HILL AND PRODUCER CRAIG BOWDEN ON ACCESS ALL AERIALS.
Access All Aerials is, as they say on their website, ‘a community radio station breaking broadcasting boundaries across Exeter and beyond. From our studios in Exeter, we're giving disabled people the chance to be heard and make AAAwesome Radio.’
In 2020, Access All Aerials joined CEDA – a registered charity providing learning and social opportunities with disabled people.
The station operates 24/7 broadcasting a wide selection of music and chat, either live or prerecorded, giving disabled people the chance to get their voices heard and experience how to create and broadcast a professional sounding radio show, either daily, weekly, monthly or just as a one-off opportunity.
Greg asked me on to his weekly two-hour drivetime show to talk about Exeter Chiefs, my 21 years of commentating on Devon’s premier rugby team, and my 32-year career in sports journalism and my other great love of speedway. Greg had prepared some excellent questions to ask me in a show interspersed with some great music.
During the spells in the studio while the music was playing out, Greg told me how much AAA had changed his life, and just in my two hours there, I could see what a fantastic set-up it is and the great work they are doing. I would highly recommend giving it a listen online.
And if you would like to listen back to my ‘interrogation’ by Greg, you can find it at https:// accessallaerials.yolasite.com/ReplAAAy.php
On to the rugby today, and what is likely to be the Chiefs’ men’s last home match of the season, unless of course they secure themselves a home Premiership play-off spot.
I must admit, after the disappointing home defeat to Bath, I was in the camp of those who didn’t expect anything to be riding on the Quins match from an Exeter point of view when we arrived at today.
However, a superb victory at Gloucester a
fortnight ago means that if the Chiefs can win this afternoon, and away to Leicester Tigers next weekend, they could just sneak into the top four and extend their season beyond May 18.
Quins arrive in Devon off the back of a valiant effort in their Investec Champions Cup semi-final last weekend in Toulouse – the quarter-final conquerors of the Chiefs – so they will be doubly keen to make sure they reach the Premiership play-offs and keep alive their hopes of ending the campaign with some silverware.
It is that time of year when supporters are asked to cast their votes for the Chiefs’ Player of the Year, and after much consideration, looking at the merits of several very worthy contenders, I plumped for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso.
My top three would be completed by his fellow England internationals Henry Slade and Ethan Roots, but as I said, there are plenty of other names that also come into the frame.
The Chiefs’ Supporters Club also usually hands out a Champagne Moment of the Season award, and my winner of that would be young hooker Max Norey, for having the audacity to sell a dummy close to the line in the Stade Felix Mayol back in December to score a crucial try against Toulon in the Champions Cup.
As for my favourite match of the season, that is a very tough one, with those big early-season victories over Saracens and Sale, joined by the European triumphs over Toulon, Munster and Bath.
I am sure you all have your own favourites. If this is the last home game, have a great summer and let’s do it all again in September!

SEASON OVERVIEW:
TODAY’S GAME IS AS PIVOTAL TO THE TOP FOUR HOPES OF HARLEQUINS AS IT IS TO EXETER CHIEFS.
The former champions sit two berths above Chiefs in the Gallagher Premiership table – taking the fifth spot on 49 points, just one win behind Bristol Bears on the same tally of points.
Both the Londoners and Rob Baxter’s squad have experienced varied luck with results this season, taking nine wins from 16 games. However, Quins picked up four extra bonus points to boost them higher on the table.
Quins come into today’s encounter following a lively clash in France
against Chiefs’ former opponents Toulouse in the semi final of the Investec Champions Cup. Falling to a close 38-26 loss at Stadium De Toulouse, they will be arriving at Sandy Park today looking to reclaim winning form in the penultimate game of the season.
There are attacking threats across the field as Andre Esterhuizen and Louis Lynagh are able to threaten from any angle across the back line while Will Collier and Alex Dombrandt provide heavy artillery in the pack.
HEAD COACH
DANNY WILSON
Harlequins head coach Danny Wilson joined the team at the Stoop last summer in preparation for the 2023/24 season. The Somerset-born man first picked up a coach’s whistle with London Welsh in 2008.
Since that first introduction, he has had a varied and successful coaching career. His CV career highlights include a Challenge Cup title with Cardiff, further URC involvement with Glasgow Warriors and international experience in the U20s age-grade set-up and more recently as forward coach with the Scotland men’s team.
As head coach, Wilson also holds the reigns of Quins’ lineout and contact areas. With a mixture of extensive league experience and youthful exuberance, Wilson has a very intriguing and determined squad under his leadership.
ONE TO WATCH: MARCUS SMITH
Fly half Marcus Smith, though still just 25 years old, has become an integral cog in the Harlequins machine with 158 appearances and a Premiership title already under his belt.
Since debuting as a fresh-faced 18-year-old during the 2017/18 season, the Philippines-born half back has honed his craft to gain not only club accolades but an England shirt and the honour of calling himself a British and Irish Lion.
In the quartered shirt of Quins, Smith is a key play-caller, working seamlessly with the likes of the experienced Danny Care in the scrum half berth of the Londoners’ half-back duo.
It would be the detriment of any opposition defence to take their focus off of containing his talent and flare as he could prove lethal on the front-foot to most opponents.

FOUNDATION UPDATE
LEXI CHAMBERS ‘END2END’ CHALLENGE ON BEHALF OF EXETER CHIEFS FOUNDATION
Charity campaigner Lexi Chambers will be using her standard wheelchair to wheel from John O’Groats to Land's End to raise money for Exeter Chiefs Foundation and the Aaron Lewis Foundation.
During the 1,400km journey – which works out at approximately a marathon a day – the 4x World Record Holder, Army veteran and ex nurse hopes to showcase the positive qualities of women’s rugby.
“Essentially the challenge is a rugby relay that I’m aiming to complete it in roughly 45 days – so it’ll be just over a marathon a day. We’re hoping to spread information on the women’s game. For lots
of people, it’s more than just a game. Rugby can become a lifestyle and an inspiration.”
Exeter Chiefs’ strength and conditioning department have had an important impact upon Lexi’s training regime as they have provided nutritional supplements and gels from SiS [Science in Sport].
Everyone at Exeter Rugby Club and the Chiefs Foundation wishes Lexi every success with her challenge and give her our full support.

COMMUNITY UPDATE
IT WAS GREAT TO HOLD OUR DEFENDER CUP AT NEWTON ABBOT RFC ON SUNDAY 14TH APRIL.
After two cancelled festivals due to bad weather and pitch conditions, it was great to finally host the U12’s festival. We had 12 teams enter, with these teams coming from: Brixham, Camborne, Cullompton, Exeter Saracens, Newton Abbot, Tavistock, Barnstaple, Penzance and Newlyn, Plymstock Oaks, Teignmouth, Topsham, Torquay and Exeter Athletic.
It was a great day with lots of good rugby on show, along with lots of smiles on faces with children enjoying themselves. We had over 200 boys taking part in the festival, with Newton Abbot RFC winning the overall event. As a result, they can now look forward to an exclusive trip to the Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham.
Massive ‘thank you’ to Defender for allowing the festival to run. Defender’s support is vital in fostering the values at the heart of the game. This event is designed to provide aspiring young players the chance to play competitive rugby in a format to aid their development, all within the spirit of rugby’s core values.
Newton Abbot RFC also did a great job with the pitches and facilities to make this Defender Cup so successful.
We look forward to holding another festival in the 24/25 season.
