6 Exotic Cars Magazine

Well, this is our first issue and I hope you like it. It took countless hours of research and talking with dealers, manufacturers and private owners to put it all together. Not to mention travel to car shows and dealers around the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions, setting up an office and lots of time interviewing collectors, dealers and others involved in the exotic car industry. But here we are with our first print edition after over 16 years on the internet. Why, do some ask, are we going from the internet to print, something that is almost unheard of in the magazine industry? The simple answer is, because those who follow us asked that we do! And it's not only those older Americans who were born in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but millenials and other young people, who really prefer to hold something in their hands that is much easier to read than a tiny phone or computer screen. So as the old saying goes, Ask and Ye Shall Receive. To celebrate our 17th anniversary as an online publication as well as our venture into the print world, we selected the Rolls Royce Sweptail as our first cover car. Built as a one-off for a wealthy Rolls Royce enthusiast, our writer Sameer Shah put together the story of how this amazing car came about from its first life as a line drawing to a finished product ready for delivery to the customer. As for new production models, we lead off with the brand-new McLaren Senna, named after famed Formula One racer Ayrton Senna de Silva who was killed in a crash while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix for the Williams Racing Team. Senna, who won three F1 Championships in his brief career for McLaren, was the UK-based company's inspiration for this car, which is intended to be the ultimate track concentrated car for road use. Other production models for this issue include the Ferrari SuperFast, Apollo IE, Fenyr Supersport and Bentley Bentayga, with the Gumpert Apollo Intenza Emotionze rounding out this issue's lineup on recently introduced exotic cars.

For a bonus, I've written an article about one of my favorite cars of all time, the Rolls Royce Serenity, released back in 2016. Not only is it a Rolls, but the interior is decked out in silk! Plus this fine example of a luxury automobile also has rare Smoked Cherrywood for some of the tirm plus Arctic Wool Leather on the front seats. Anyway, check it out starting on page 50. Regular features in this and future issues include a lifestyles section featuring luxury items, celebrity news and other articles relating to the exotic car lifestyle. We also have a photo gallery of six of the best exotic cars in the world and plan to continue that feature in future issues. There's also a story on What is a Hypercar, written by ace staff writer Sameer Shah, who is not only an automotive engineer but interned with BMW recently. His list includes such classics as the McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari LaFerrari so be sure and check it out! Next month's issue will feature a gaggle of Lamborghinis including the Centenario and other models as well as a history of the Lamborghini brand. So be sure and check it out when our second issue hits newsstands in Mid-April nationwide! And if you're wondering where to find us, you can find a newsstand copy at any of these retail chains. Barnes & Noble Wal-mart Albertson's Kroger Publix Meijer CVS Drugs Walgreen's Quantities vary by location and you will be able to find a list of what states and cities we are in just by visiting our newly redesigned website at exoticcarsmagazine.com. For those of you wanting video, check out ExoticarTV on Youtube. Until the next issue, take care and I'll see you then!

Record year for Lamborghini in 2017 Continuing the sales pace it has set for the past seven years, Automobile Lamborghini S.p.A. set another record record in 2017 by delivering 3,815 cars to customers worldwide. That number is a 10% increase over last year’s 3,457 and builds on a trend that began in 2010 when the exotic car maker sold just 1,302 units worldwide. The USA was the company’s strongest market, accounting for 1,095 units or nearly 29% of the total, followed by Japan (411), UK (353), Germany (303), Greater China (265), Canada (211) and the Middle East (165). All of them setting new sales records in the process. “In 2017 Lamborghini has proven to be in consistently good shape. Delivering another all-time high for the seventh consecutive year confirms the sustainability of our product and commercial strategy. We also significantly increased brand awareness, especially with the young generation, proved by the success of our social media channels. This is a real team achievement and I would like to thank the whole Lamborghini team for the work done. These accomplishments are all the more remarkable as we mastered an unprecedented double challenge: preparing for new models in our super sports car range, while simultaneously doubling production capacities at our headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, heralding a quantum leap in our product portfolio. The world premiere of our new Super SUV Urus in December was, without doubt, the highlight of the year,” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. Currently, the brand has 145 dealers serving 50 countries, with sales balanced evenly across the company's three regions, with each accounting for one third of the brand's sales. Both major model lines achieved record sales, with sales of the V12 model Lamborghini Aventador growing by 6% from 1,104 to 1,173 units and the V10 Huracan from 2,353 to 2,642 units. Next year, the company expects even more sales next year with the December 2017 launch of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. McLaren Senna

By Sameer Shah Staff Writer Ayrton Senna da Silva was a Brazilian racing driver who won three Formula One world championships for McLaren in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. He died in an accident while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix for Williams.

McLaren paid tribute to Senna through their next car, the “McLaren Senna” which has been designed, engineered, and developed with single-minded purpose: To be the ultimate McLaren track-concentrated car for the road. Legalized for road use but not sanitized for it, the new Ultimate Series deliberately compromises McLaren’s trademark breadth of supercar daily usability by providing the purest connection between driver and car to deliver the most intense circuit experience of any road McLaren. An all-new recipe creates this entirely new level for the classic McLaren supercar: Ultra-lightweight construction with carbon fibre 12 Exotic Cars Magazine

chassis and body panels, a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 McLaren engine, driven from the rear axle. Sophisticated race-derived suspension delivers an unparalleled blend of control and dynamic balance. Electro-hydraulic steering rewards accurate inputs and provides the purest feedback. And two seats - but with absolute focus on the importance of the one occupied by the driver. These credentials demonstrate that only a short time has elapsed since the pioneering sports and supercar company was founded in 2010, but the brand has already established an impressive pedigree. The carbon fibre Monocage III chassis that forms the core of the McLaren Senna is a further development of the structure that underpins the McLaren 720S and the strongest monocoque ever built by McLaren for a road-legal vehicle. Each and every body panel is made from carbon fibre, in line with a relentless focus on the weight of every individual component that has resulted in the McLaren Senna being the lightest road-legal McLaren since the iconic F1 road car, at just 2641 pounds. With a maximum power of 800PS (789bhp), the McLaren Senna enjoys a power-to-weight ratio of 668PS per ton. This statistic immediately underlines the performance credentials of the newcomer to the McLaren Ultimate Series, a product family introduced with the McLaren P1 that is reserved for the rarest and most extreme McLaren cars. Unsurprisingly, there are strong echoes in the new McLaren Senna of the incredibly focused philosophy behind the McLaren P1 in which the latter was designed to be the best driver’s car on road and track. The ambition for the McLaren Senna, however, is to claim the post of best road-legal track car, setting a new benchmark for circuit excellence with track prowess absolutely taking precedence.

“The McLaren Senna is a car like no other: The personification of McLaren’s motorsport DNA legalized for road use but designed and developed from the outset to excel on a circuit. Every element of this new Ultimate Series McLaren has an uncompromised performance focus, honed to ensure the purest possible connection between driver and machine and deliver the ultimate track driving experience in the way that only a McLaren can,” said McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Officer Mike Flewitt. Given the famous name of this new McLaren, its unrivaled extreme performance and dynamic excellence should come as no surprise. The legendary Formula 1 racing driver was renowned for his exceptional powers of concentration and single-minded focus on being the best on the track. The McLaren Senna driver is hardwired into the dynamic experience the car delivers. The driver’s connection to the car flows through the steering wheel, the pedals and the seat. Every sensation emanating from track speed is precisely communicated through the controls, placing the driver in total harmony with vehicle and velocity. History The indomitable spirit of Ayrton Senna is still alive at McLaren and the Senna will further amplify his global legacy and link to the McLaren brand. “Our family is extremely proud of the naming of the new Ultimate Series McLaren Senna. This is the first project that really connects with Ayrton’s racing spirit and performance. The McLaren Senna honours my uncle because it is so utterly dedicated to delivering a circuit experience that allows a driver to be the best they can possibly be. There is an absolute, seamless connection between car and driver and this pure engagement, these sensory cues that a driver responds to and relies upon, ensure an experience so focused and immersive that you are left in awe of the depths of excellence the McLaren Senna possesses,” 16 Exotic Cars Magazine

commented Bruno Senna, racing driver and McLaren Ambassador. Visuals Visually, the McLaren Senna sends shockwaves. The first impression is of an aggressive, unforgiving machine, organic shapes having given way to a design language that is purposely fragmented in pursuit of absolute performance. With downforce and aerodynamic balance the guiding principles, this car is the purest expression yet of the “form follows function” design philosophy embraced by McLaren. Viewed from above, the body is nature’s most efficient shape - a teardrop - with body components “clipped” onto the cabin to deliver optimal aerodynamic performance. McLaren’s designers went to extremes by cutting open the “shrink-wrapped” body to reduce weight visually and functionally. While recognizably a McLaren in proportional terms, you cannot follow a single line from the front to the rear without it passing through a functional air intake or vent. Aerodynamics The McLaren Senna introduces a new generation of ground-breaking front and rear active aerodynamics, raising downforce and aerodynamic control to an unprecedented level to ensure optimum performance. Every element of the body design, from the front splitter to the double diffuser at the rear, has been developed to optimize downforce and aerodynamic balance, whether under braking, adjusting the throttle mid-corner, or applying power on corner exit. There is also an opportunity for added visual drama, with the front aero blades available finished in one of five “By McLaren” theme specifications that include Azura Blue and McLaren Orange. The same linked accent colour can also feature on the brake calipers, visible door gas struts, and seat trims. The double diffuser at the rear of the car is unmistakable. Created as a single piece of carbon fibre, it begins under the rear axle and as it increases in height accelerates air out from under the vehicle.

This creates a low-pressure zone that sucks the McLaren Senna even tighter to the ground. Equally unmissable is a huge, double-element carbon fibre rear wing that at its highest point sits 48 inches from the road when the car is stationary. Hydraulically actuated and with a planform surface area of more than 6,500cm2, the wing constantly adjusts to optimise the levels of downforce and aerodynamic balance, and doubles as an airbrake for extreme slowing. Interior The depths of connection with the new Ultimate Series car will be experienced in full once in the driver’s seat and on a circuit, but the intimate relationship with the McLaren Senna begins before that, simply by entering the car. McLaren F1-inspired dihedral doors hinge forwards and upwards, opening with a portion of the roof to expose noticeably low sills and an aperture of sufficient size for drivers or passengers to easily enter or leave the cockpit, even while wearing a helmet and race suit. The cockpit environment reflects the stripped-back, functional nature that is evident in every aspect of the McLaren Senna. Designers utilized visual carbon fiber extensively. Depending on customer preference, Alcantara® or leather, covers the seats, facia and side airbags, but the absence of any other interior trim saves weight and reveals the construction of the doors. Even the gas struts are exposed to save vital pounds. Driver controls have been deliberately kept to a minimum to reduce “cockpit clutter” and the three-spoke steering wheel is free of buttons and switches, creating a pure focus on sensory feedback. All the information the driver needs comes from the high-definition McLaren Folding Driver Display and central infotainment screen. And while McLaren designers stopped short of removing the second seat altogether, there is no contingency for excess baggage. Storage space is restricted to a chamber behind the seats integral to the Monocage III with just enough room for two helmets and race suits.

Engine Codenamed M840TR, the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine at the heart of the McLaren Senna is the most powerful road car internal combustion engine ever created by McLaren, producing 800PS (789bhp) and torque of 800Nm (590 lb ft). The engine’s dry sump lubrication and flat-plane crankshaft are technologies with their roots in motorsport. Lightweight internal components reduce mass in the powertrain and combine with ultra-low inertia, twin-scroll turbochargers, and electronically controlled wastegates to deliver lightning-quick throttle responsiveness. From the outset of the program, McLaren engineers determined that the full mechanical symphony of the engine - from intake to combustion to exhaust - had to be central to the sensory experience. Those fortunate enough to drive the McLaren Senna will feel the cockpit come alive with the sound of air rushing into the roof-mounted “snorkel” intake and mixing in the carbon fiber plenum, producing precisely tailored high-frequency audio impulses of vivid experience. At the same time, low-frequency sounds from the engine are transferred into the cockpit through unique engine mounts, exciting the double-walled rear structure of the carbon fibre Monocage and amplifying every change in engine RPM, making it seem almost as if the V8 is sitting alongside the driver. A dual-clutch, seamless-shift, seven-speed gearbox delivers power to the rear wheels. A fully automatic mode is the default, with the driver able to choose full manual control of gear shifting via paddles mounted on a rocker behind the steering wheel. The elongated carbon fiber paddles are optimized for use with and without racing gloves, and create a deep sense of mechanical connection with the McLaren Senna. The character of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo McLaren V8 and the transmission can be tailored using the Active Dynamics Panel, with the driver having a choice of Comfort, Sport, or Track powertrain modes. Whatever the mode, performance is suitably savage. Throttle response is immediate and neck-snapping, pinning the driver back into the seat.

A Peace Pod For All Seasons....

Suspension RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II) hydraulic suspension works in harmony with front and rear active aerodynamics and the ultra-rigid Monocage III to deliver an extreme experience on a circuit. Every element of the McLaren Senna has been designed to maximize the connection between driver and car, at all speeds and in every situation. Painstaking work on the damping and steering weight has ensured that the car feels fully “alive” well below its upper limits; even when the suspension is not fully loaded and tires are not absolutely compressed, the rich texture of communication blends with the feedback transmitted to the driver as aerodynamic levels and cornering speeds build. RCC II is a double-wishbone suspension system that additionally features hydraulically interconnected dampers and a hydraulic replacement for conventional mechanical anti-roll bars. It also further develops the variable stiffness and ride height technology first seen in the pioneering hydraulic system in the McLaren P1. The adaptive dampers are interconnected hydraulically, both left to right and front to back, with two valves per damper to independently adjust for compression and rebound. Stiffness of the McLaren Senna is separately controlled using a kinetic roll system, or K-damper. McLaren’s continuously variable RCC II system advances the control strategy introduced on the McLaren 720S and also adds a Race mode, which introduces a lower ride height, lower center of gravity, and significantly stiffer suspension. Designed for race tracks but approved for road use, its design enables the McLaren Senna to be driven to a circuit. The third model introduced under the McLaren Track22 business plan, the McLaren Senna will be hand-assembled in England at the McLaren Production Centre. McLaren will limit production to 500 vehicles, each already allocated, with pricing starting at $1,046,902.

What is a Hyper Car? Editor's Note: Besides what is known as a "super car", there is the "hyper" car. Below is a summary of what a hypercar is according to our writer Sameer, who is also an automotive engineer and former BMW employee. By Sameer Shah Hyper cars are top of the line supercars that are the absolute finest in most, if not all, of the elements of standard supercar. These elements include, but not limited to, acceleration, price, rarity, top speed, sound and appearance. Definition Hyper cars take certain qualities of supercars to a new level, such as extreme horsepower, weight-efficient builds, and creative aerodynamics. Although certain characteristics could magically appear in a truly outstanding supercar, hypercars excel in all these areas while including fuel efficiency and exceeding typical Autobahn speeds. Usually powered by 10 or more cylinders and sporting carbon fiber exteriors with engines in the rear for better weight distribution and aerodynamics, a hypercar focuses more on straight line speed rather than handling performance. Hypercars are a more intense breed than the supercar. Supercars are eye-catching factory stock machinery that accelerate faster and cost a lot more than 98% of the other cars manufactured in that same year. By definition, all hypercars are supercars and then some, but not all supercars are hypercars. Hypercars make up only about 1% of supercars. Hypercars therefore comprise that small sub-section of extreme machines in the larger category of "supercar". Criteria When it comes to sorting among qualifying factors that determine if a supercar can rise to the level of hypercar, one encounters a significant amount of unclear and open-ended criteria. The qualifications are not obvious or easy to distinguish and there is not a patent definition of the mechanical grace of hypercar due to its recent arrival. In order to gain acceptance into the hypercar family, contestants must meet all the criteria of a supercar while exceeding those boundaries in style and performance. Possessing extreme technology and a modernized, creative and unique design are the main requirements of the open-ended criteria. Every aspect of a hypercar should be a step into the future for automotive technology, engineering technology and exterior body design. Dreaming up, fabricating, and producing these ultimate machines serves as a competition to see who can design and manufacture the sleekest and the fastest. Certain supercars like the Lamborghini Murcielago and the Ferrari Enzo (which are still ultimate driving machines but now disqualified as hypercars) are slowly sliding down the supercar scale due to the fact that hypercars continue to push the envelope even further in design, speed, and elegance. The hyper requirements therefore challenge the technology and forces competition into the future, bypassing previously known hypercars and challenging their creators to build more extreme and radically desirable versions of their automobiles. At this rate, every remarkable breakthrough we learn and apply to these vehicles today will very soon be tomorrow's common feature when the next models scream down the track.

Every other characteristic of the supercar plays a role in determining if it can transform from "super" to "hyper" class, namely acceleration, top speed, price, exclusivity, style, handling, and horsepower. Although advances in any single area may require consideration, the overall package of new design and performance causes the most attraction. The search is on for the fastest and most inventive. By Sameer Shah Statf Writer She has got class… She has got the grooves… She has got the body worth flaunting… but a really aggressive heart… Yes we are talking about the new Fenyr Supersport by W Motors. Its maternal cousin made a huge impact in our hearts and also on streets through the movie Fast & Furious. But this time the Fenyr is back with much more adrenalin and rush… Fasten your seatbelts you are about to go on a fast ride with this Exotic Hyper beauty. Made its debut in Dubai Motor Show, it looks a class apart with its much sharper cuts and great body work. This is truly a masterpiece crafted to the pinnacle of excellence. Its performance is mind throbbing and it does a 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed exceeding 249 mph. A supercar developed with a focus on achieving the best performances without compromising its inherited luxury. The production won’t be as limited as the HyperSport’s, the SuperSport will be more affordable than its predecessor, even though it will still be a million-dollar car. What’s inside this Aero-Auto Marvel??? The Fenyr Supersport develops a peak output of 900 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six engine from famous Porsche tuning firm RUF. wheels only, the engine rockets the car from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and on towards a top speed of 248 mph. The original Lykan Hypersport came with 770 hp and could hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of around 245 mph. Just like the HyperSport, the upcoming SuperSport features a layered surfacing design that creates the impression of an armored vehicle. While it may seem tough, the SuperSport is actually very light, as the entire body is made from carbon-fiber and bolted on a tubular lightweight aluminum chassis. The supercar has an aggressive front fascia with LED headlamps and massive air intakes, a ventilated hood, and protruding side skirts. “The supercar has an aggressive front fascia with LED headlamps and massive air intakes, a ventilated hood, and protruding side skirts.” The side air intakes extend toward the canopy-like roof, making the SuperSport look like a miniature, wingless jet fighter. Around back, it features a large diffuser, slender taillights, and a rather unusual configuration of spoilers. There’s a larger, more traditional unit that runs the interior width of the rear fascia, as well as a pair of additional spoilers mounted higher on the rear fenders. This monster coupe comes with a light carbon composite body infused in it is W Motors styled bodywork DNA. The car in the first look gives some serious magnetism to our eyes. Thu futuristic look with sharp headlights makes it a cunning beast. The majestic V shaped front grill with tricky aerodynamics does most of the work which is not only a beautiful masterpiece but a technological marvel. The side air inlets makes the air swirl around the front and is directed towards the ground which produces suction under the

chassis and the car can be driven at optimum traction. The most distinctive feature of the car is the double lines on the door. The air which is directed from the front curves around the doors and hence maintaining a good streamline with and it gushes directly into the engine compartment. The engine is twin turbo charged and makes good use of this air by putting on 885 poundfeet of torque on the road. Like most modern supercars, it also features an active rear spoiler. Dubbed “Triptych,” it is composed of three separate moving flaps and operates using a complex electro-mechanical system that guarantees the synchronous movement of all three surfaces. Which is something very much similar to Pagani Huayra. The side panels deploy automatically at 50 mph and the main center panel deploys at 75 mph. The innovative system helps the car to keep the rear planted when driving at high speed. During braking, the tree-piece spoiler folds back seamlessly into the body. While it may not be a beauty contest winner, the Fenyr SuperSport is definitely unique and a lot more aggressive than the Lykan HyperSport.

Gumpert Apollo Intensa Emozione

By Marty Knight The Apollo IE marks the return to the truest, most organic form of the hyper-car. Created from a blank sheet of paper, the IE is the beginning of the next chapter of Apollo. From the beginning, Apollo set out to build a car that is lightweight, aerodynamically efficient, and connected, but unimpeded by any emotionally dilutive technological systems. During the course of achieving this goal, engineers poured in heart and soul, sweat, and tears. The IE is a superleggera that combines the aerodynamic efficiency and mechanical grip of a modern GT1/GT3/LMP race car with the classic thrill of a high-revving naturally aspirated V12. This car has an organic granularity that other modern hyper-cars strive for, but are unable to deliver. All this while featuring a modern, intensively striking design language that symbolizes the brand. This is a car that captures the lost emotion and fading spirit of the cars we grew up loving, a car with its own soul. A car that provides the driver with modern yet nostalgically pure, unadulterated sensory experience. A car that is fuel for the senses. A car that lives and breathes intense emotion. This is Intensa Emozione. This is the Apollo IE. The Name Quite literally, “Intensa Emozione” means intense emotion. These two simple words carry great significance - they are the backbone of everything Apollo does, they describe the journey they trekked, and it is the final product of their passion. Apollo is known as a brand

30 Exotic Cars Magazine

with passion, ideal, and demands. Not only have they built a hypercar with world class performance, but they also made certain that driving this machine is an event in and of itself. Design The Apollo IE embarks on a new chapter to showcase an intensively striking design language that symbolizes the brand. Pushing the boundaries of design, engineering and extensive applications of exotic materials. The IE’s radical body surfaces are sculpted for tremendous efficiency and highly optimized functionality, inspired by tactical fighter jets and apex predators such as sharks and raptors. The IE’s body narrates the language of airflow. The streamlining concept of the IE is to pierce through and manipulate the air around and also through the vehicle. The convergence of its body panels illustrates the radical depth of its surfaces and the stunning continuity of the body lines. A narrow teardrop-shaped glass house allows the IE to achieve its stunning, bold and balanced proportions. Precise creases and exposed wheels facilitate precise streamlining of airflow whilst resulting in a lightweight appearance grounded by powerful stance. Every part of the Apollo IE is designed for highly functional purposes with a radical approach to style. Prominent elements such as the striking shark like nose, distinctive side aero fins, large angled wing mounts and the trident exhausts make it instantly recognizable as an Apollo.

CHASSIS & MATERIALS From the early stages of this project, the car was designed to deliver extreme performance. Apollo wanted to create a modern chassis for the next-generation. Utilizing advanced technologies and composite materials they were able to create a state-of-the-art, all-carbon fibre chassis which delivers maximum torsional rigidity, safety, and a lightweight, aerodynamically efficient shape. The chassis consists of not only a bespoke carbon monocoque frame, but also carbon fiber front and rear subframes. This allowed Apollo to create more organic surfaces and a tighter packaging, which in return has a positive correlation to its robust aerodynamic efficiency. The entire chassis, including the main, front, and rear subframes, has a total weight of a mere 105kg. Safety remains of utmost importance to Apollo and with that in mind, nothing was sacrificed. The IE features bespoke carbon fiber front crash structures, which until today, have been reserved for only the front-runners of motorsports such as Formula One. BRAKES A partner of Apollo, Brembo has always delivered outstanding performance and remains at the top of its segment. The IE uses a new Brembro carbon ceramic (CCM) system with a 380Ă—34 mm, 6-piston caliper in the front and a 380Ă—34 mm, 4-piston caliper at the rear. TIRES Michelin is the official iyre supplier and partner for Apollo. They work 34 Exotic Cars Magazine

together to identify and develop the optimal tires to extract maximum performance from the IE. The Michelin tires pair well with the Apollo IE and allow the car to achieve lateral forces in excess of 2G. SUSPENSION The IE features a Formula One-inspired double-wishbone with full push-rod and rocker arm architecture at both front and rear, along with adjustable anti-roll bars. The dampers provided by Bilstein are adjustable by the driver in three modes (Comfort, Sport, and Auto). In addition, the design of the suspension and components selected allow for a personal tuning and modification for each client. Apollo provides clients with the ability to develop their own bespoke suspension setup. The development of the suspension system was designed to achieve maximum performance but also carry a targeted level of refinement in order to provide a capable, yet reliable driving experience. The IE suspension permits the driver to have full control of comfort and performance levels with electronic damper adjustability at their fingertips and the practicality of an Electro-Hydraulic lifter system that can raise the vehicle height by 50 mm up to 30 kph front and rear. All this was achieved along with incorporating a pneumatic quick-lift system with 4 air-jacks for easy pit-service operations in order to allow the IE to partake in serious circuit events and the Time Attack Program (to be released at a later date).

ENGINE No turbos. No hybrid systems. A proper balance of old and new. The Apollo IE is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3 liter V12 engine. This ICE unit produces more than 780hp and 760Nm of torque at RPMs up to 9000 RPM. The power unit was developed in partnership with Autotecnica Motori. The IE features three engine Mapmodes selected by the driver: Wet, Sport, and Track, with selection indicated on “Engine Map page” on the main display. The decision to refrain from using any emotionally dilutive technological systems, such as hybridization, was made to deliver a modern, yet pure, unadulterated sensory experience. GEARBOX The power and torque of the Apollo IE is transmitted through a longitudinal Hewland sequential 6-speed+Rev gearbox with fully interchangeable gear ratios. The gearbox is operated via electro-pneumatic paddle shifters that move with the steering wheel so the next gear is always within the driver’s reach. Utilizing this solution allows for a strong, race-proven gearbox that provides significant weight savings over a dual-clutch unit and yet lightening-fast gear changes. The powertrain is connected to the wheels by two superalloy lightweight semi-axles, designed by the Austrian specialist Pankl Racing Systems AG. AERODYNAMICS One of the key distinctive features of the Apollo IE is its aerodynamic efficiency which allows it to achieve world-class performance and extreme levels of downforce that far surpass other cars in its category. At 300km/h the IE produces over 1,350kg of net downforce. The downforce is properly balanced with 44.5% on the front and 55.5% on the rear. The IE has an aerodynamic efficiency in excess of 3, which places it closer to that of an LMP2 race car than a proper GT road car. EXCLUSIVITY To maintain exclusivity, Apollo will only build one sole batch of 10 units of the Apollo IE, each to the highest degree of customization 36 Exotic Cars Magazine

requested by its owner. Those who order the Apollo IE will be granted exclusive access to the Time Attack program that will be run by Apollo on the most relevant European racing circuits, and will also gain priority rights to order the future sibling of the Apollo IE, the Arrow, which is scheduled to appear in 2019. Apollo also offers a unique opportunity for the clients to partake in the fine tuning development process of the IE and the development of the future Apollo cars from the beginning. IE owners will be invited to accompany Team Apollo to private testing sessions. This bespoke and personal experience allows IE owners to see what goes on behind the scenes during the development process of a new car and have the opportunity for their input to play a role. A privilege only a select few in the world can claim.

The Most Expensive Car ever built with a price tag of $13 Million!! By Sameer Shah Staff Writer

Rolls-Royce is the truest synonym for luxury, class and exclusivity. When it comes to exquisite luxury, Rolls-Royce has gone a few steps further by creating a masterpiece over the space of four years, creating one of the most expensive models ever and thus establishing itself again as a class apart. While most people will focus on the $13 million figure, they will find it almost irrelevant when it comes to the Rolls-Royce Sweptail, a coach-built Phantom Coupe with a two-digit British license plate milled from ingots of aluminium and then hand-polished for a mirror finish. The Sweptail gets the largest ever aluminium grille in a Rolls-Royce, also hand-polished. The signature ornament “Spirit of Ecstasy” is also the largest ever. Under the hood, the Sweptail gets a giant 6.6-litre V12 engine and despite being a two-seater coupe, spans more than 6 meters. 42 Exotic Cars Magazine

The mere idea of a modern coachbuilt Rolls-Royce was not enough for one specific connoisseur, however. This individual approached the manufacturer with his own idea of a two-seater Rolls-Royce that he wanted created in the here and now. That motor car is here, now, and bears the hallmark “Sweptail.” In a nod to the swept-tail design of early Rolls-Royces from the 1920s admired by the client, he asked Rolls-Royce to reimagine this feature for his one-off motor car. From the side, to keep the lines as clean as a sleek yacht, Rolls-Royce managed to wrap the bodywork under the car with no visible boundary to the surfaces, preparing viewers’ eyes for the main attraction that is, of course, the coupe’s swept-tail back. Introduction Presenting the car to the media at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “Sweptail is a truly magnificent car. It exudes the romance of travel for its own sake, and immediately places ‘Sweptail’ in the

pantheon of the world’s great intercontinental tourers. Rolls-Royce’s history as the world’s leading coachbuilder is at the very core of its identity as the world’s leading luxury brand. The arrival of (concept car) 103EX a few years ago shone a light on the future of Rolls-Royce in this field, and ‘Sweptail’ is proof, today, that Rolls-Royce is at the pinnacle of coachbuilding. We are listening carefully to our most special customers and assessing their interest in investing in similar, completely exclusive coach-built masterpieces. At the same time we are looking into the resources which will allow us to offer this unique service to these discerning patrons of luxury.” Unique Elements Built for only one lucky man, the owner of Sweptail worked directly with Rolls-Royce’s design department in its creation over a period of four years. The car features several unique design elements, including a system that deploys a bottle of champagne at the touch of a button. The exterior styling has been crafted with design details of both vintage Rolls-Royce machines and luxury yachts. The Sweptail name refers to the swept-tail look of 1930s Rolls-Royce creations. The Sweptail’s front features the traditional Rolls-Royce front grill, though the largest version ever constructed. The grill is milled from solid aluminium and polished by hand to a mirror finish with the rear of the car tapered

with a raked stern, a design nod intended to evoke images of racing yachts. What is a Sweptail? “Sweptail is the automotive equivalent of Haute Couture,” comments Giles Taylor, Director of Design at RollsRoyce Motor Cars. “It is a Rolls-Royce designed and hand-tailored to fit a specific customer. This customer came to the House of Rolls-Royce with an idea, shared in the creative process where we advised him on his cloth, and then we tailored that cloth to him. You might say we cut the cloth for the suit of clothes that he will be judged by.” The “Sweptail” is without question a Rolls-Royce that fits to the brand’s DNA. Its initial formality when seen from the front signals is that this is one very different and distinct Rolls-Royce. One’s attention is first attracted by the confident and solid character of the front profile, centered on a new treatment of the iconic, largest-ever Rolls-Royce Pantheon grille. The periphery of the front face of “‘Sweptail” is framed in brushed aluminum. As one moves to the side of “Sweptail” one finds that it is the striking silhouette that defines its unique character. Flowing as they do from upright and formal frontal aspect, the lines of “Sweptail” resolve into a graceful and elegant form of which the scale and grandeur of this regal-looking coupe is truly striking. In 2013, Rolls-Royce was approached by one of its most valued customers with a very particular request. A connoisseur and collector of distinctive, one-off items including super-yachts and private aircraft, this gentleman came to Rolls-Royce to realize his vision of a one-off luxury motor car like no other. Rolls-Royce delivered, and then some. From the leading edge of the windscreen, the roofline accelerates as it fires backwards towards the rear of the motor car, overshooting the boot lid edge to emphasize its length. The longer side window graphic and wide C-pillar finisher underscore the length and proportions of this more wonderous of conveyances. The coup de gras of the rear is the ultimate homage to the world of racing yachts that inspired the client, with its raked stern. The panoramic glass roof Inspired by the beautiful coach-built Rolls-Royces of the 1920s and 1930s, the client’s desire was for a coachbuilt two seater coupe featuring a large panoramic glass roof. As a connoisseur of Rolls-Royce, he was inspired by many of his favorite cars from the family’s golden era of the early 20th century, as well as many classic and modern yachts. The grandeur, scale, flamboyance, and drama of the 46 Exotic Cars Magazine

1925 Phantom I Round Door built by Jonckheere; the smooth tapering glasshouse, dramatic dash to axle proportion, and up-sweep of the rear departure angle of the 1934 Phantom II Streamline Saloon by Park Ward; the elegantly falling waist-rail, swept tail coachwork of the 1934 Gurney Nutting Phantom II Two Door Light Saloon, and the flowing roofline, rising departure angle, and again the swept tail coachwork of the 1934 Park Ward 20/25 Limousine Coupe were all considered by today’s Rolls-Royce designers in the creation of this very distinctive motor car. The Exterior Seen directly from behind, the rear taper contrasts strongly with the front of the motor car, shaping a completely new perception of a dramatic Rolls-Royce Coupe. Both the roof line as it tapers towards the center line of the car, concluding in a “bullet-tip” that houses the center brake light, and the sweeping lower bumper area, combine to create a greater feeling of elegance in motion. The cleanliness of the surface of “Sweptail” is maintained as the bodywork wraps under the car with no visible boundary to the surfaces, a treatment that is akin to the hull of a yacht. The underside of the motor car was designed to deliver the visual of a progressive

upward sweep at the rear departure angle of the car, culminating in the swept-tail that gives “Sweptail” its name. And finishing off the uncluttered rear of this oneoff motor car is its identifier and registration number, 08, two individual digits milled from ingots of aluminim and hand polished. The highlight feature of “Sweptail,” the uninterrupted panoramic glass roof, is a design conceived by the client. Allowing entry of all natural light available, the view invites one into the magnificent interior. Hidden features Not all of the custom design touches of Sweptail are visible. Many are yet to be explored and many will remain a mystery since only one model will be ever built. The elements inside – made from Macassar Ebony and Paldao veneers, the Moccasin and Dark Spice leathers of the seats, doors, and the hand-stitched steering wheel, were all designed and built to the customer’s specifications. Rolls-Royce has also developed full set of luggage for the Sweptail, which has two hidden panniers in the trunk to fit bespoke laptop cases, which slide forward when the passenger presses a button.

Perhaps the most spectacular feature of “Sweptail,” indeed, the coup de gras of this one-off masterpiece, is as personal to the owner as every other unique feature. This feature is concealed in the center console: a champagne chiller that reveals a carafe of champagne and two crystal flutes, designed to articulate the refreshment at the touch of a button to the perfect position for delivery. The vintage? The client’s favorite, of course, the year of his birth. The Interior The interior is ruled by a philosophy of simplicity and minimalism leading to a distillation of componentry and a purification of clutter. The value of beautiful materials takes precedence here, resulting in a fastidious suppression of switchgear to the absolute minimum to make way for the richest of materials applied in the most honest of fashions. The commitment to efficiency ensures an uninterrupted and harmonious visual absorption of every surface inside the cabin. As mentioned before, generous quantities of polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao wood adorn the interior, creating visual and tactile contrasts for the owner, both classical and contemporary. All their forms, however, are thoroughly modern as Exotic Cars Magazine

47

they echo the exterior lines of “Sweptail,” hand-formed to encircle the occupants with some of the most beautiful natural materials in the world. This choice of dark and light, Ebony and Paldao, is set off by contrasting light Moccasin and Dark Spice leathers that adorn the seats, armrests, and dashboard top. But it is what those materials have been made to do that is the most fascinating aspect of this one-off cabin. True to the spirit of a transcontinental GT that Rolls-Royce established in the 20s and 30s, in place of the rear seats is a vast expanse of wood creating a mid-shelf with an illuminated glass lip, and a hat shelf which flows to the outer limits of the interior volume. Sitting under the rear opening backlight, the hat shelf is in itself a thing of beauty, highly polished and inset with luggage rails. Behind the occupants, a feature named the Passarelle flows from the rear edge of the windscreen to resolve in a teardrop as it connects to the hat shelf to join all interior volumes. This element also includes the only visible presence of this singular motor car’s name as “Sweptail” is discreetly debossed into the surface exactly on the center line. The Macassar Ebony veneer seen around the cabin has been handcrafted to adorn the dashboard in the most modern fashion. With the cleanest Rolls-Royce dashboard to date, the minimalist ethic not only dictates that only one control now appears on it whilst all other switchgear is discreetly relocated, but that the clock blends seamlessly too. In a world first, the face of this singular Rolls-Royce clock is also handmade of the thinnest Macassar veneer, 48 Exotic Cars Magazine

visually embedding the clock into the fascia. The delicacy of this particular piece of veneer allows for its rear illumination to pass through showing the hour marks, meaning the only physical elements on the clock are its hands that are precision machined from titanium. This use of titanium then extends to the faces, numbers, and dials on all three hand-assembled instrument dials. More Surprises Two final surprise and delight features have been secreted inside ‘Sweptail’ to the stringent standards of the client. Concealed in the outboard panels on either side of the motor car, behind the opening of the coach doors, are two identical panniers. Each pannier, when activated, deploys forward to present the owner’s bespoke attaché case which has been carefully packaged to exactly house his personal laptop. The cases themselves have been hand-constructed from lightweight carbon fiber, wrapped in the finest leather that matches the interior of “Sweptail” and detailed with machined aluminium and titanium clasps and locks. A most personal, coachbuilt Rolls-Royce for a specific customer, every aspect of the material treatment of “Sweptail” exudes handcrafted quality and exacting attention to detail. This is indeed a Rolls-Royce, but like none other.

2016 Rolls Royce Serenity

By Mike Weber Of all the exotic car makes that I have grown to love over the years, the one that sounds out the most for me personally is Rolls Royce. Although I've driven just one in my 30 plus year career as a journalist, the look and the comfort of Rolls Royce has given me butterflies every time I've seen one either at a show or in one of the many magazines I've subscribed to over the years. I saw my first Rolls Royce in the streets of Seattle while courting my first wife in the late 1970's as it was driving down 1st Avenue towards the Kingdome. Maybe on the way to the ballpark or one of the theaters in Seattle's Pioneer District. My love of the brand increased even more after I started Exotic Cars Magazine as an online publication way back in 2001 while I was a local newspaper editor in Iowa. Then I really began going to car shows, attending such events as Autorama in Rock Island, Illinois and Des Moines while going to numerous cruise-ins and local car shows throughout Iowa and Illinois. Each time Rolls Royce came out with a new model, I featured it on the online site, almost purchasing an early 1960s model in 2004 from a dealer in Michigan. Since then, I've been working towards getting a new Rolls and finally the brand has come out with the model I've been waiting for all my life. Just introduced this year, the Rolls Royce Serenity is all I've come to know and expect from the manufacturer both inside and out, from its famous grille to the silk interior. I mean, seriously, SILK? Now that is an upgrade over the usual leather and mahogany featured on all Rolls Royce models since the brand was first launched in 1906 by Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. To line each car in silk takes an entire roll of the stuff that the manufacturer imports from Suzhou China.to its factory in Sessex, England. After 2 days of hand weaving into 10 square meters of fabric, the silk is shipped to London, where the intricate blossom motif is painted on in a detailed process that takes 600 hours to complete. 52 Exotic Cars Magazine

Besides the silk, the interior also features rare Smoked Cherrywood that's used for the rear seat valances plus Arctic White Leather that's used on the front seats. Other places that Smoked Cherrywood is used include the dashboard, rear console and doors, but it's also complemented by bamboo inlay touches. Another ultra high-end feature is the Mother of Pearl the manufacturer uses in detail areas such as the driver's instrument dials and faces of the clock. The car's exterior Mother of Pearl paint job is the most expensive one-off paint Rolls Royce has ever conceived, and is applied in a three-stage pearl effect and then polished for 12 hours to produce a stunning outer body sheen. As for power, the Serenity comes equipped with the usual V12 Rolls power plant mated to an 8 speed transmission. Regarding price, Rolls Royce said back when it was released in 2015 that this model would be in the $1 million range. As of the date publication I have not seen anything different but guess the silk makes it worth it!

Bentley Bentayga

70 Exotic Cars Magazine

By Neil Winton The Bentley Bentayga is a spectacular combination of luxury, performance, and utility. It will zoom away from the lights like a Ferrari, cosset you like a Rolls Royce, and carry you safely across deserts and mountains like a Land Cruiser. The fact that Bentley is now owned by Volkswagen of Germany doesn’t seem to have changed its perception as a traditional British luxury marquee. After all, most of BMW’s SUVs are now made in America, and its sales go from strength to strength. All that matters to the buyer of one of its magnificent machines is the high quality and exclusivity of the product. And given that to buy a Bentayga you will likely be shelling out way north of $230,000 after tax, you can assume that the would be customers will spot a phoney a mile off. When you open the door to the Bentayga the smell of the best quality wood and leather hits you. Everything around you is pure class. The “organ 72 Exotic Cars Magazine

stop” devices which control the air conditioning vents are beautifully made. The analogue clock in the centre of the dashboard glints in the sunlight. No surprise because Bentley says it is a Breitling with “a light mother of pearl face” and inlaid with diamonds. The wood and leather are the result of many hours of top flight craftsmanship at the factory in Crewe, which unlike most modern car plants is actually full of highly skilled people and eschews robots. It’s hard to avoid superlatives with the Bentayga, which Bentley says is the fastest, most luxurious, exclusive and most expensive SUV in the world. That might well be true now, but soon when the Aston Martin, Mercedes-Maybach, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, and even Ferrari join the club, it might have to dilute this hyperbole a bit. Falconry version The engine is a 12-cylinder 6-litre, twin-turbo monster developing 600 hp, enough to blast this leviathan from rest to 60 mph in 4 seconds. There is an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Press the starter

button, and the 12 cylinders ignite a spectacular high-pitched whine which quickly settles down into an ominous whisper. If you plunge offroad, there were eight settings available at the touch of a dial to match the conditions, or you can let the computer make the decisions. A panoramic glass roof is standard, a word you won’t find often used by Bentley. (see “extras” below). When you visit the local horse show, you should add the folding event seat which slides out from the back. There’s a special version aimed at the Middle Eastern market called the Bentayga Falconry, believe it or not. On unlimited German highways this beast will manage 187 mph. If you’re wondering why Bentley engineers settled on such a weird number, that adds up to 300 km/h in most of its markets. If a Bentayga buyer cares about fuel efficiency, ambling along at about 50 to 60 mph on country roads half the cylinders will shut down to cut gasoline use. In Bentley’s history, it’s a fair bet nobody in the showroom has yet even asked how many miles to the gallon it might get. The Bentayga felt a bit floaty on the road but held itself amazingly flat through winding and tight high speed curves. Even on Britain’s third world, pot-holed roads the bumps were swept aside with disdain. The steering was beautifully weighted and a delight to use. There are so many drivers’ aids that it would take an intensive course to find them all, but I did push a button and stumbled on the “head-up display. That projects speed limits and sat-nav instructions above the bonnet without having to take your eyes off the road. Canary Islands The Bentayga, named after a mountain peak in the Spanish Canary Islands in the Atlantic close to Morocco, comes with 4 or 5 seats. A third row will be added next year. When Bentley says this costs $231,825 before tax, it doesn’t include a huge list of options, which we lesser mortals might expect to be included. The Naim

stereo will add $4,690, electronic safety aids ($7,870), folding seat added to the cargo area ($3,200), rear seat entertainment ($7,155)

right down to stitching on the steering wheel $210, and a heated one $455. Is the Bentley perfect? Even at this price level you can find niggles. The turn indicators didn’t make enough noise and I occasionally left them pointing either left or right by mistake. And once, when slowing down for a junction, the Bentayga’s computer detected some nonexistent hazard, and tightened my seat belt so hard that it felt like someone had punched me in the chest. It goes without saying that all mod-cons in terms of connectivity and driver safety are on board. “I hope you don’t mind me saying mate,” he said, “but isn’t it a bit ugly?” Because the Bentayga is so huge and therefore makes a big initial impression, the conventional wisdom seems to be that, sure, it’s impressive, but is in fact rather ugly. That was my impression when I first saw the prototype, but reckoned it had been improved by the time the production version hit the road. I have to say that my own ad hoc survey resulted in Exotic Cars Magazine

an overwhelming view that indeed it was ugly. One comment came from a plumber at my local gas station who wondered over and asked for a look inside. He was impressed. “I hope you don’t mind me saying mate,” he said, “but isn’t it a bit ugly?” UTube viewers of the drone video say the same thing. But Bentley won’t be worrying. Sales around the world are ticking over nicely at about 5,000 a year. Trying to make a judgement on a vehicle which is so far out of the reach of normal mortals is difficult. Other SUVs are almost as big, like the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 (on which this Volkswagen subsidiary is loosely based), Range Rover, BMW X5 come close in size, and the biggest Mercedes. All these competitors are about to or have already announced plans to make bigger versions. They also have fantastic performance and much luxury. But the Bentley has that extra oomph in the minds of its super-rich buyers because of its devotion to craftsmanship and traditional materials, not to mention its iconic status. If you think Bentley, you see the first highspeed machines 100 years ago with their death defying and cavalier drivers. Much has changed since then, but not Bentley’s aura.

Ferrari SuperFast

By Sameer Shah The Ferrari 812 Superfast is a front mid-engine, rearwheel-drive grand tourer produced by Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari that made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The 812 Superfast is the successor to the F12 Berlinetta. This latest in the Ferrari line is the newest in a long line of front-engined V12s, hence the ‘12’ in the title. As stated above, It replaces the F12, which wasn’t exactly superfast itself, what with its 730bhp and everything. But now – and here comes the ‘8’ – peak power is up to 800 metric horsepower, or 789bhp, so if it wasn’t fast enough before, the chances are that it will be now. The spiky, angry, hard-to-drive special edition felt like it made double that power when it arrived in doses so heady that they overwhelmed a chassis featuring a rear-steer system seemingly intended to confound both itself and its driver. Ferrari called that system a ‘virtual short wheelbase’ but in effect it did precisely the opposite. By steering the rear wheels in the same direction as the fronts it was adding stability – virtual length – to the car's wheelbase. This was an attempt at which it would mostly fail, to tame a chassis that had been made deliberately unstable by fitting extremely wide front tires. Its 6.5L V12 engine produces a massive 800hp, which is 60hp more than the F12 Berlinetta, and 713Nm of torque — all of which makes it the fastest, most powerful road-going Ferrari ever (aside from a handful of limited special editions). To make full use of that huge power and to guarantee perfect weight distribution, the car exploits a highly evolved transaxle architecture that couples a front-mounted engine with a

rear-mounted transmission. In addition, it is is equipped with leading-edge vehicle dynamics control systems and components. It is striking for its highly innovative design and aero package, as well as its unparalleled handling and is also the first Ferrari to sport EPS (Electric Power Steering). Simply put, the 812 Superfast is the new benchmark for mid-front-engined sports cars. And at its heart is the new 12-cylinder which has forged its character. Like all cars with Prancing Horse DNA, this new model

"The most powerful series production Ferrari" delivers exhilarating feedback both on road and track, but equally promises exceptionally fluid handling and ride comfort that drivers will appreciate on longer journeys. The Ferrari 812 Superfast, in fact, is aimed at clients that demand the most powerful and exclusive Ferrari in the range. They want a blisteringly high-performance car, but refuse to compromise on the kind of versatility that will allow them to thoroughly appreciate driving it as a 360-degree experience. Engine The challenge Ferrari tackled with the 812 Superfast was to design the most powerful road-going engine in the marque's history (800 cv, 123 cv/l) while also cutting fuel consumption and emissions, and, naturally, retaining the inimitable Ferrari 12-cylinder soundtrack. At the development stage, the engineers set themselves

the goal of exceeding the specific power output of the F12berlinetta's V12 which itself delivered class-topping performance. To do so, they decided to focus their efforts principally on optimising the intake system and combustion efficiency to fully exploit the increase in the engine's displacement from 6.2 to 6.5 liters. These aspects increased the maximum amount of air that could be drawn into the engine (and thus its power output) thereby boosting its efficiency. The development process resulted in a maximum power output of 800 cv at 8,500 rpm, a new benchmark for the Ferrari range, in addition to a specific power output of 123 cv/l, a completely unprecedented figure for an engine front-mounted in a production car. Engine power is underscored by a full, rich exhaust sound that exploits the acoustic clout delivered by its increased displacement. These performance levels were achieved in part by optimising the engine design and in part by introducing innovations, such as the use of a 350 bar direct injection system for the very first time on a spark-ignition engine, and the control system for the variable geometry inlet tracts, developed on naturally-aspirated F1 engines, which is a further evolution on its application on the special limited-series F12tdf. These systems allow the increase in displacement from 6.2 to 6.5 liters to be exploited to maximise power output whilst retaining excellent pick-up even at low revs. The high pressure injection system also improves nebulisation of the injected fuel thus dramatically reducing the amount of particulates emitted when the catalytic converter is warming up, ensuring the engine complies with all emissions regulations. It's maximum power-to-fuel consumption ratio has also been improved, attesting to the engine's

exceptional efficiency in urban driving contexts. This was achieved in part as a result of Stop & Start On the Move strategies which cut and restart the engine while the car is moving. Particular attention was also paid to calibrating the Manettino settings to enhance the engine's potential and the sensation of extreme power delivered by the car. That said, the driver will always be able to easily and confidently dose the massive torque available with the accelerator pedal, thanks to smooth, progressive power delivery at all engine speeds. The result of all these developments is a boost in maximum power output to 800 cv at 8,500 rpm (an impressive 60 cv more than the F12berlinetta) and maximum torque of 718 Nm @ 7,000 rpm - a completely unprecedented achievement for a naturally-aspirated Ferrari production engine. A significant 80% of maximum torque is available at just 3,500 rpm, improving both flexibility and pick-up at lower revs. Exhaust system geometry was evolved to increase and balance the sound from the engine compartment and tailpipes, with a 6-into-1 manifold. The aim being of course, to enhance the car's already extreme and sporty character thus making the resulting engine sound strong and smooth inside the cabin in all driving conditions. Transmission The new Ferrari 812 Superfast is fitted with Ferrari's F1 dual-clutch transmission which has been further evolved to meet the car's track driving performance targets and cope with the boost in maximum revs to 8,900 rpm. Gear have been shortened by an average of 6% to exploit the extra performance and higher revs to the fullest as well as to improve the car's acceleration without compromising pick-up in higher gears.

There was particular focus on calibrating the gear-shift strategy to enhance the car's sportiness, further slashing response times and creating a feeling of massive power and speed both in terms of longitudinal acceleration and auditory perception of the rising rpms. In both up- and down-shifts, the transition time has been reduced by 30%. Combined with the shortened gear ratios, these modifications mean that occupants will instantly feel the car's powerful response to the throttle. On the track, this sharpened response equates to more down-shifts in the same time interval, when the driver uses the multi-down function. Vehicle dynamics The Ferrari 812 Superfast is the first Ferrari to introduce Electric Power Steering (EPS) which, in line with Ferrari tradition, is used to fully exploit the potential of the car in terms of performance by integrating it with all of the electronic vehicle dynamics controls. Also seen is the introduction of the Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system (PCV) which, starting from the experience gained with the F12tdf, combines electric front-wheel steering assistance with the mechanical concept built around tire dimensions and rear-wheel steering. All are integrated with the vehicle dynamics control systems based on Version 5.0 of the SSC, with the aim of improving the agility and response time to steering wheel inputs of the 812 Superfast. EPS integration enabled engineers to introduce functionalities that support the driver's performance experience by means of the primary interface with the road: the steering wheel. Ferrari Peak Performance (FPP): when cornering, the steering wheel torque will provide the driver with an indication that the car is getting closer to its limit of grip, improving it using dynamic input. Ferrari Power Oversteer (FPO): in case of oversteer, most frequently induced when powering out of corners, the steering wheel torque will give the driver feedback by means of inputs that are coherent with realigning the car correctly. Both functions are aimed at extending the driver's experience of the performance delivered by the Ferrari 812 Superfast while not interfering with control over the steering wheel input. By this method the driver remains the key to the driving experience. The mechanical setup includes the adoption of tires developed specifically for Ferrari by Michelin and Pirelli and retain the same sizes front and rear (275/315) introduced on the F12tdf to optimize the Passo Corto Virtuale concept. The Brembo Extreme Design brakes, which previously equipped the LaFerrari, are the most efficient ever developed by Ferrari. Combined with the Hi-Performance ABS of the 9.1 Premium ESP, braking performance from 100 km/h is improved by 5.8% compared to the F12berlinetta. Aerodynamics The Ferrari 812 Superfast's aerodynamics is part of Ferrari's ongoing commitment to continually improving performance with each new model, both in terms of speed and augmented vehicle dynamics for a more exhilarating driving 80 Exotic Cars Magazine

experience. Development guidelines aim to achieve exceptionally high aerodynamic efficiency hrough boosting of down force that influences a car's stability without increasing drag as the latter would negatively impact fuel consumption and maximum speed. Aerodynamic coefficient values delivered by the Ferrari 812 Superfast are also a significant improvement on those of the F12berlinetta. Mobile aero solutions, whether mechanically activated (active mobile aerodynamics) or activated by the pressure of the air itself (passive mobile aerodynamics), guarantee very low drag values. The choices made in this area were heavily influenced by those debuted on the special F12berlinetta-derived F12tdf, with which the 812 Superfast shares the same down force values. However, all of its aerodynamic coefficients have been improved. To the side of the air intakes for engine and brake cooling is a turning vane on the front bumper which is designed to channel air flow as it strikes the front of car to ensure airflow hugs its flanks, thereby reducing the width of the car's wake. This in turn appreciably reduces overall drag. Front down force generation is entrusted for the most part to a pair of diffusers just ahead of the front wheels, which increase the amount of air drawn in by the under body. To cancel out the drag associated with them, the diffusers have been equipped with a mobile aerodynamic system. When this activates, it completely stalls the diffusers, improving wheel control. The mobile surface integrated into the diffuser ramp is activated by the pressure of the air that as it enters from the lower intake on the outside of the bumper, is channelled towards the mobile surface. When the car reaches a speed at which pressure in the duct is stronger than the calibrated pre-load of an elastic spring, the mobile surface opens, thereby reducing the car's drag and improving front down force. And the front diffusers' capacity to generate down force is boosted by generous air evacuation from the front wheel arch along the side of the car. This vent on the flanks directs the energised air flow from the diffusers on the front under body, preventing pressure build-ups inside the wheel arch and thus improving down force and cutting drag. This effect is maximized by two sculpted air intakes on the front hood by the side of the headlights. Air flow is channelled by a specific duct to the front section of the inside of the wheel arch, where it reduces pressure before energising the flow exiting along the flanks. The spoiler on the car's tail also generates down force. The trailing edge of the spoiler is 30 mm higher than on the F12berlinetta as per the F12tdf. However, unlike the latter, it has not been extended rearwards in depth to avoid changing the car's dimensions, which has increased drag but is compensated for by the unusual gap at the bottom of the rear screen ahead of the spoiler. This discontinuity causes a separation in the air flow from the rear window, creating longitudinal vortices which boost compression on the surface of the bottom of the windscreen, thereby reducing drag associated with the down

force generated by the spoiler. The shape of the rear wheel arch has also been crafted to guarantee efficient down force generation. In fact, the lift naturally generated by the way the body curves over the wheel arches has been minimised by introducing an aerodynamic bypass between the bodywork and the inner rear wheel arch. Rather than following the curvature of the flank in that area, which would create lift, the air flowing over the car's belt line enters the intake behind the rear quarter light, which is then channelled into a duct that allows it to exit in front of the rear spoiler. Lift effect of the wheel arches is thus minimized, generating down force without adding any extra drag. Three pairs of curved dams that act as vortex generators were adopted for the front under body and are responsible for 30% of the increase in down force compared to the F12berlinetta. The dams create a ground effect by generating powerful vortices and reducing the wake from the wheels to the absolute minimum, further boosting the flat under body's down force generation capabilities. Unlike their F12tdf counterparts, the dams have new blowing slots which, by reducing overall pressure on the front side of the dams, boosts their efficiency, with the result that, despite the down force generated remaining the same, drag introduced in the area is cut by 15%. Because of the powerful suction created by the rear spoiler, the rear diffuser has been completely redesigned to enhance its extraction power. Firstly, the diffuser's trailing edge now features a wing in a deep recess created in the bumper. Air flows from both the lower and upper surfaces strike the splitter which extends across the entire width of the diffuser, boosting the down force generated by the latter by 12%. Since the rear diffuser is one of the main contributors to down force generation and the resulting drag, it has also

been given a system of three active flaps which rotate to a 14° angle in the minimal drag configuration to completely stall the diffuser, thereby significantly reducing overall drag. Exterior Designed by Ferrari Design, the new Ferrari 812 Superfast redefines the formal language of front-engined V12 Ferraris' proportions without altering either its exterior dimensions or interior space and comfort. Seen in silhouette, the 812 Superfast has fastback sleekness: a two-box design with a high tail reminiscent of the glorious 365 GTB4 (Daytona) of 1969, visually lowering an aggressive rear spoiler designed to guarantee down force. The draped design of the flanks visually shortens the tail and is characterized by sharply slanted crease lines and impressively muscular wheel arches that imbue the Ferrari 812 Superfast with the power and aggression warranted by its imposing V12. Full-LED headlights integrated into the design of the sculpted air intakes on the hood also emphasise that front muscle, integrating with and wrapping around the front wheel arch. The Ferrari 812 Superfast's sumptuously sculptural, three-dimensional flanks are characterized by a striking vent behind the front wheels designed to suck high-pressure air from the wheel arches and then channel it along the doors. The rear diffuser includes a suspended splitter that increases the diffuser surfaces by turning them into biplane wing, allowing the air to be drawn between the lower diffuser and the splitter. At the rear, four round tail-lights inspired by Ferrari tradition emphasise a design crafted around horizontal lines and give the Ferrari 812 Superfast a broad, imposing stance, visually lowering both spoiler and the very compact cabin without, however, sacrificing its space or that of the boot.
