Few people know mexico like Santiago Lastra. When he took part in the NOMA Mexico project, his job was to search far and wide in order to find the ingredients that René Redzepi and his team would cook in Tulum in 2017. Years later, the time has come to create his own restaurant on a site decked out with two floors, an open kitchen, and a mezcal bar. “My dream was to have a restaurant where people would be equally proud of the project as I am,” says Lastra about his restaurant Kol. “When I took part in NOMA Tulum I realized that people wanted to learn more about [my] country’s cooking. That’s why I decided to open a restaurant in London. The idea is to show casual cooking from contemporary Mexico, removed from the quaint idea Europeans have about our country.” kolrestaurant.com

Pocas personas conocen tanto nuestro país como Santiago Lastra. Cuando participó en el proyecto de NOMA México, su labor era recorrer kilómetros para encontrar los ingredientes que el equipo de René Redzepi cocinó en Tulum en 2017. Años después, llegó el momento de crear su propio sitio, equipado con dos pisos, una cocina abierta y una mezcalería. “Mi sueño era tener un restaurante donde la gente estuviera igual de orgullosa que yo del proyecto”, dice Lastra sobre su restaurante Kol. “Cuando participé en NOMA, me di cuenta de que la gente quería conocer más de la cocina de nuestro país, por eso elegí abrir en Londres. La efectiva combinación de géneros y sonidos le ha valido una creciente base de fans, especialmente después de que lanzaran en 2019 el disco Matahari. When it comes to atmospheres, sound atmospheres are the specialty of this Parisian band. From an altar of elegance and femininity, this project departs from French pop in order to move it forward. The effective combination of genres and sounds have earned them a growing fan base, especially after the launch of Matahari in 2019.

Por sus figuras arquitectónicas, humanoides, lásers y beats profundos, el dueto de Tom Rowlands y Ed Simons es ya un referente de los ecosistemas electrónicos. La combinación de su música con el arte visual de Adam Smith y Marcus Lyall –con la que ya han llegado al Museo de Diseño de Londres– vuelve a México para encabezar este festival. With their architectural figures, humanoids, lasers, and deep beats, the duo formed by Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons has already set the bar in the electronic circuit. The combination of their music with Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall’s visual artwork, which has already landed them in The Design Museum London, sees them return to Mexico as the festival’s headliners.

Una carta de amor Retrato de una mujer en llamas, reconocida con la Palma Queer del Festival de Cine de Cannes, estrena en México el 13 de abril. Portrait of a Lady on Fire, winner of the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, premieres April 13 in Mexico.
Héloïse (Adèle Haenel) is about to be married for financial convenience. Her future husband, who doesn’t know her, will only agree to marry her should he find her attractive and beautiful in a realist portrait. Naturally, she refuses to sit for the painting. Thus her mother hires Marianne (Noémie Mérlant), to paint her portrait without her realizing it, under the guise of a chaperone. But complicity and love eventually win out: Portrait of a Lady on Fire is an homage to impossible yet intense romance, the kind that is consumed in flames. Céline Sciamma’s film, recognized with the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, is an ode to sisterhood and feminism, to the extent the cast doesn’t feature any men. It’s also an homage to female painters in 1770, whose names were vanished from history in order to impose the names of men. With its aesthetic, costume design, color palette, and photography, the movie is a painting in and of itself–a work of art. More than anything, however, it is a love letter between two human beings. 024

Resulta también un homenaje a las pintoras de 1770, cuyos nombres fueron desaparecidos de la historia para imponer los de los hombres. Con su estética, su diseño de vestuario, paleta de colores y fotografía, el filme es en sí mismo un cuadro, una obra de arte. Pero es, sobre todo, una epístola de amor entre dos seres humanos.

In the heart of Puerto Cancun, the private Novo Cancún development –featuring shops, restaurants, golf course, and marina– is undergoing a full-fledged growth spurt. Today, SLS Marina boats a new residential tower with the signature stylings of New York interior design studio Meyer Davis. 104 apartments distributed among its 20 floors were designed to anchor residents to the place. “We worked with natural materials found in the region and accented each space with textiles and handicrafts from different peoples of Mexico,” states company cofounder Will Meyer. Items from the top Mexican art galleries were chosen to decorate public spaces. “We wanted to capture the essence of the place and converse with the natural setting,” he adds. A pool on the first floor of the tower splits the building in two and leads one’s eye to the ocean, while the immense windows of each unit make the surrounding landscape impossible to ignore. slsmarinabeach.mx

POR LAS MUJERES Y LAS NIÑAS Ser presidenta de una nación, una gran investigadora, una influyente activista o defensora del planeta… Los derechos de las mujeres y las niñas están en la mesa, pero se necesita un trabajo en conjunto para hacerlos valer. Malala Yousafzai, activista por la educación, y Greta Thunberg, guardiana del medio ambiente, son ejemplos recientes de lo importante que es la igualdad de condiciones entre hombres y mujeres para hacer de este un mundo mejor. Pero, aun cuando las mujeres representan la mitad de la población mundial, la realidad es otra: en 2018 solo tuvieron 27% de los puestos directivos en todo el planeta, además de que sufren discriminación y diversos tipos de violencia. Por eso, uno de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), que propone la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, es lograr el empoderamiento de las mujeres y las niñas a través de la equidad en el acceso a la educación, oportunidades de liderazgo, acceso a la propiedad, además de la eliminación de todas la formas de violencia, discriminación y prácticas nocivas, entre otras acciones. Este objetivo forma parte de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible con la que Aeroméxico está comprometida, la cual también busca acciones en favor del clima, el trabajo decente y el crecimiento económico, así como producción y consumo responsables. Porque en el mundo necesitamos más Malalas y Gretas.

Being a nation’s president, a great researcher, an influential activist, or defender of the planet. The rights of women and girls are on the table, but we must work together to enforce them. Educational activist Malala Yousafzai and environmental champion Greta Thunberg are recent examples of how important it is to have equality of conditions between men and women in order to make this world a better place. Yet, even though women account for half the world’s population, reality paints a different picture: in 2018 they held only 27% of management positions worldwide, while they continue to suffer discrimination and different types of violence. That’s why one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) proposed by the United Nations is to empower women and girls through equality of access to education, leadership opportunities, access to property, as well as elimination of all forms of violence, discrimination, and harmful practices, among other actions. This goal is part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to which Aeromexico is committed, and which also seeks action on climate, decent work, and economic growth, as well as responsible production and consumption. Because we need more Malalas and Gretas in the world.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Admiring Un túnel de vidrio atraviesa una alberca inmensa habitada por tiburones que nadan libremente sin saber que los observan desde abajo. Todo el complejo, situado a solo dos horas de San Francisco, está diseñado para crear una sensación de inmersión en el fondo del mar: ventanas del suelo al techo, burbujas de vidrio que se adentran en los tanques y espacios abiertos frente a la costa permiten ver a los más de 35,000 animales, moluscos, plantas y corales de cerca, como si estuviéramos nadando junto a ellos. A glass tunnel crosses through a gigantic pool inhabited by sharks swimming freely about, oblivious to the fact that they’re being observed from below. The entire complex –located just two hours from San Francisco– is designed to create the feeling of being immersed at the bottom of the ocean: floor-to-ceiling windows, glass bubbles that protrude into the tanks, and open spaces looking out on the coast let you see the over 35,000 animals, mollusks, plants, and coral reefs up close, as if you were swimming right next to them. The otters are some of the luckiest inhabitants, spending their days swimming in an outdoor pool. This is also an important place for learning about the aquarium’s conservation efforts. It has several programs for rescuing native animals, restoring ocean health, promoting sustainable fishing, and finding ways to eliminate plastic waste in the ocean. Dunas de la Huacachina Sandboarding Las dunas gigantes de la Huacachina, en el desierto de Ica, al suroeste de Perú, son el escenario perfecto para desafiar la altura y la velocidad. Los buggies son vehículos diseñados para andar por la arena –aquí se les conoce como areneros–, con un armazón sin techo ni ventanas, y llantas anchas y grandes con las que pueden subir por las pendientes más empinadas. Y es que las dunas más altas pueden llegar a medir hasta 500 metros. Los buggies suben y bajan por la arena con rapidez y seguridad mientras los conductores encuentran el punto ideal para realizar la segunda parte de la actividad: el sandboarding. Cada viajero recibe una tabla para deslizarse desde la punta hasta la base de las dunas medianas en la posición que prefiera: de pie, flexionando las rodillas, o acostado sobre la panza con las piernas estiradas y la cabeza al frente para alcanzar más velocidad. Al terminar, y antes de regresar, hay que visitar la laguna azul turquesa rodeada de palmeras en el centro de este oasis natural.
The giant dunes of La Huacachina in the Ica Desert of southwest Peru are the perfect setting for taking on heights and speed. The buggies (called areneros here) are designed to get around on the sand with a topless, windowless frame, and large, wide wheels that let them climb up the steepest slopes –consider that the tallest dunes can reach up to 1,640 feet in height. Buggies go up and down the sand quickly and safely while their drivers look for the perfect spot for the next activity: sandboarding. Each person gets a board to slide down from the peak to the bottom of the medium-sized dunes in the position of their choice: standing up, bent at the knees, or belly-down, legs outstretched, and head forward for greater speed. When you’ve finished, don’t head back without checking out the palm tree-lined turquoise-blue lake at the heart of this natural oasis.

Haliburton Forest Camping Al este de Canadá, se extiende una zona boscosa tan grande que cubre la mitad de la provincia de Ontario. Ahí, la zona protegida del Haliburton Forest, muy cerca de Toronto, concentra 100 lagos y millones de árboles. En medio de todo, en donde los únicos sonidos que se escuchan vienen de los pájaros y el movimiento del agua, hay 17 áreas de campamento conformadas por varias casitas clásicas de madera –con literas, sillones, baño y una cocineta–, mesas de picnic y pozos para hacer fogatas al anochecer. Durante el día se pueden practicar diferentes actividades que varían de acuerdo con la temporada: canoa, pesca, senderismo y bici de montaña en los meses de calor, y trineos y motonieve durante el invierno. Por la noche hay que voltear al cielo y buscar la vía láctea. Alejado de esta zona, en un área protegida, está el Wolf Centre, que reúne distintas exposiciones sobre la flora y la fauna de la región y un observatorio desde el cual es posible encontrar a una manada de lobos paseando en libertad.

In the east of Canada there is a forest region so large that it covers half the province of Ontario. There, in the Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve, not far from Toronto, there are 100 lakes and millions of trees. In the middle of it all, where the only sounds to be heard are the birds and babbling water, there are 17 camp sites made up of several classic little wooden cabins (with bunk beds, sofas, bathroom, and kitchenette), picnic tables, and fire pits for an evening bonfire. There are all kinds of activities to do during that day that change according to the season: canoeing, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking in the warmer months, and sledding and snowmobiling during the winter. Be sure to take in the view of the Milky Way overhead at night. Further afoot, in a protected area, there’s Wolf Centre, which presents a variety of exhibitions on regional plants and animals, and an observatory from which you just might spot a pack of wolves roaming freely about.

Isla Espíritu Santo Snorkeling Muy cerca de la costa de La Paz, en Baja California Sur, habita una colonia inmensa de lobos marinos (se han contado hasta 400 ejemplares), una de las especies más emblemáticas de la península. Para jugar con ellos hay que navegar 40 minutos desde la marina hasta Los Islotes, en la punta de la isla Espíritu Santo, y saltar al agua con equipo de buceo o esnórquel. En las rocas, los adultos descansan acostados bajo el sol, mientras que las crías nadan a su alrededor. Están tan acostumbradas a los humanos, que juegan sin miedo con quienes se acercan nadando: muerden las aletas, serpentean entre las piernas y suben por la espalda hasta la cabeza para alcanzar el visor. Eso sí, es importante guardar distancia de la tierra, pues los machos adultos tienden a ser muy territoriales. Alrededor del archipiélago es común encontrar otros animales dentro y fuera del agua, especialmente gaviotas, tortugas marinas, mantarrayas, caballitos de mar y distintas especies de peces, como cola amarilla y trompeta.

Just off the coast of La Paz, in Baja California Sur, there is a giant colony (up to 400 individuals have been identified) of one of the peninsula’s most iconic species: sea lions. To play with them you have to sail 40 minutes from the marina to Los Islotes, on the tip of Espíritu Santo Island, and jump into the water with scuba diving or snorkeling gear. The adults lie in the sun, resting on the rocks, while the cubs swim around them. They’re so used to humans that they play without trepidation with those who swim up to them, nibbling on fins, squirming between your legs, and climbing up your back to where they’re level with your head and can peer into your mask. It is important to keep your distance from the land, as the adult males tend to be very territorial. It’s common to find other animals in and out of the waters of the archipelago, especially seagulls, sea turtles, manta rays, seahorses, and a variety of fish species, including yellow tail and trumpet fish.

Rápidos en Veracruz Rafting La mayor descarga de adrenalina llega en los ríos rápidos de Veracruz, sobre una barca de rafting. En Jalcomulco, a menos de una hora de Xalapa, está el río La Antigua, cuya corriente alcanza una velocidad de clase tres, que significa que es moderada y apta para toda la familia: en cada balsa caben ocho personas. Cerca de ahí, hacia el norte, está el río Filobobos, que se extiende 24 kilómetros y está dividido en tres segmentos: alto, intermedio y bajo. Los últimos dos, de clase dos y tres, tienen corrientes tranquilas, pero el recorrido está lleno de emoción gracias a las pequeñas bajadas empinadas que llevan a la lancha a rebotar fuertemente contra el agua, y a girar sorpresivamente por la forma zigzagueante del río. Después del rafting, para alargar la aventura, vale la pena adentrarse en la cascada El Encanto, escondida dentro de un cañón que sobrepasa los 80 metros de altura y es accesible solo a través de unos túneles rocosos por los que hay que remar para llegar a la fosa central.

For the biggest adrenaline rush, head to the river rapids of Veracruz. Less than an hour from Xalapa, in Jalcomulco, La Antigua River features class III rapids, making it moderate and suitable for the whole family, with rafts that fit up to eight people. Nearby, toward the north, there’s the Filobobos River, which is 15 miles long and is divided into three segments: high, intermediate, and low. The latter two are class II and III, with gentle currents, but the ride is full of thrills thanks to the small yet steep drops that will cause your raft to smack hard against the water and take surprising turns along the zigzagging river. After the rafting, keep the adventure going with a well worthwhile splash at El Encanto Falls. Hidden inside 262-foot-high canyon walls, the waterfall is only accessible by rocky tunnels you have to paddle through in order to get to the central pool.

l 10 de marzo, la icónica colonia Roma de la Ciudad de México se vistió de gala para recibir a la generación 2020 de 31 Mujeres que Amamos by She’s Mercedes. El evento comenzó con una alfombra roja en la que desfilaron las galardonadas e invitados especiales. Todos disfrutaron del vino rosado, carajillos, licor de granada y mezcal de La Europea, además de las botanas que llevó Lenovo e Intel para consentirlos. Algunas asistentes agregaron a sus atuendos accesorios en color verde y morado, como símbolo de apoyo a la lucha contra la violencia de género y al Día Internacional de la Mujer. Además complementaron su make up y su fragancia con las últimas tendencias llevadas por Chanel, que instaló una sala de lujo para ellas. Más tarde la marca les entregó un gran obsequio. Artistas, empresarias, deportistas, cineastas, escritoras y activistas lucieron entusiasmadas de encontrarse y disfrutaron cada momento, por ejemplo, a través de She’s Mercedes la plataforma de empoderamiento
de Mercedes-Benz escribieron un mensaje sobre la nueva GLB 250, hecha en México, que lucía resplandeciente. También Veuve Clicquot participó con sus burbujas, la plataforma Bold y la artista Nalini Vargas, quien cautivo a los presentes con caligrafía en vivo en un mural que representaba a las mujeres mexicanas. El momento cumbre llegó cuando Blanca Juana Gómez, directora general de Expansión Publishing; Claudia Cándano, directora editorial de Soft News y María Torres, editora general de la revista Quién, dieron la bienvenida y pusieron sobre la mesa las acciones que las mujeres han relizado en esta lucha por la igualdad de género. Todos disfrutaron de una gran comida para celebrar a las 31 Mujeres que Amamos by She’s Mercedes y las primeras dos décadas de la revista Quién. Frie is enamored of Mexican culture, the stories told by hand-crafted garments, and the virtues of natural materials. Those are precisely the values of Dulce de Lana: each article is woven by a Mexican woman working from home and is made from natural Merino wool. The fiber is light, hypoallergenic, and durable. “The material is perfect for a newborn’s sensitive skin. It’s so soft and warm that it makes them feel protected, as if they were in a cocoon,” she explains, “and it’s also very nice to the touch for the mom, so she benefits, too.” Today, the clothing line has sweaters, pants, beanies, blankets, and different accessories, including booties, sleeping bags, and teddy bears. El amor por la lectura se cultiva desde los primeros años de vida, con historias que estimulen su curiosidad y los hagan experimentar por primera vez esa resistencia a cerrar el libro aunque ya duelan los ojos de tanto leer. En la colonia Roma de la Ciudad de México se esconde Orion Kids, una pequeña librería infantil que asemeja a una salita de estar, pero con el componente mágico que le dan los foquitos que cuelgan del techo y las constelaciones y sirenas que decoran las paredes. Las dueñas del lugar curaron una selección de libros muy especial, tanto de grandes distribuidores como de editoriales independientes, las cuales fomentan el conocimiento, las relaciones interpersonales y la curiosidad de explorar y viajar. La intención de Orion Kids (@orionkids) es convertirse en un espacio en donde los niños puedan pasar horas leyendo y jugando. Para eso, organiza sesiones regulares de cuenta cuentos o canta cuentos, para los visitantes más pequeños. El espacio también reúne juguetes, disfraces y accesorios, como mordederas y móviles, que tienen un componente consciente, desde el uso de materiales naturales hasta el tratamiento artesanal. A love for reading is cultivated from the early years of life, with stories that stimulate curiosity and make one experience, for the first time, the feeling of not being able to put a book down no matter how much your eyes hurt from reading so much. In Mexico City’s Roma neighborhood you can find Orion Kids, a small children’s bookshop that looks something like a living room, but with a magical touch thanks to the tiny lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling and the constellations and mermaids decorating the walls. The owners of the store have curated a very special collection of books from both large distributors and independent publishers in order to foster learning, interpersonal relationships, and a curiosity for exploration and travel. The idea behind Orion Kids (@orionkidsmx) is to be a space where kids can spend hours reading and playing. That’s why they hold regular storytelling and story-singing sessions for the littlest customers. They also have toys, costumes, and accessories such as teethers and mobiles that have a conscious component, from the use of natural materials to the hand-crafted treatment. Kids need well planned physical spaces where they can play, experiment, and discover new colors, textures, and settings. Mi Bosque is a Mexican furniture and children’s accessories maker that seeks to combine functionality with play and surprise. The different pieces that industrial designers Julia Carreón and Paul Guzmán came up with are intuitive and easy to use. They let kids find other uses for them, like a fort or a hideout. The Mi Bosque catalog includes castle-shaped wall shelves, dinosaur-tail chairs, toy boxes, and toy cars, as well as bear lamps, rugs, and cushions in the shape of different forest animals. You can also create fully tailor-made spaces and objects. All the designs are based on Waldorf and Montessori pedagogical methodologies. The items are made from wood coated in natural beeswax and painted with brightly colored, non-toxic paint in order to foster curiosity. Mi Bosque can be found at a number of points of sale in Mexico City: Laguito df, Lorena, Ludotheke, and Taxonomía; and in Quintana Roo and San Luis Potosí. A small crafts workshop in hungary was the site where the first hand-painted board games created by artist Beatrix Bohony were made. Antes de zarpar es justo aclarar algo: me gusta Disney. Estoy lejos de tener una membresía en el club D23, pero confieso que atesoro mi DVD de Lilo & Stitch; lloré con Toy Story 3 (¿quién no?) y celebro nuevas historias como Intensamente. Dicho lo anterior, se puede adivinar que el crucero Disney Fantasy me resulta un feliz universo paralelo donde todos somos niños y los más grandes jugamos a ser adultos. En la entrada del barco, una engalanada tripulación aplaude la llegada de cada una de las familias, algunas parejas y grupos de amigos (varios millennials, solteros y sin hijos). Los destellos de un candelabro con miles de cristales Swarovski, las alfombras, los acentos dorados y la escalinata al estilo de los antiguos trasatlánticos, nos hace sentir como en un castillo flotante. Pronto los cruceristas expertos se distinguen de los novatos, pues antes de que se diga “Bibidi Babidi Bú” ya están disfrutando de las albercas y las delicias del bufet en el restaurante Cabanas. Aprovecho para navegar en la app del crucero y agendar las películas que quiero ver en el Buena Vista Theatre (es la oportunidad para ponerme al corriente con Star Wars en un cine de verdad); los shows de Aladdin y Frozen al estilo Broadway, y me programo para las fotos con mis favoritos: a bordo están Mickey, Minnie, Donald y Pluto, pero también las princesas, el capitán Garfio y muchos más. Al atardecer una fiesta en la cubierta marca el inicio de este viaje por el Caribe. Entre bailes y canciones atrás queda Puerto Cañaveral y en el horizonte nos esperan varias aventuras, entre ellas una visita a la isla privada de Disney.
Before setting sail, full disclosure: I like Disney. It’s not like I have a membership in the D23 club, but I must confess I adore my Lilo & Stitch DVD; Toy Story 3 made me cry (who didn’t), and I am a fan of new stories like Inside Out. Having said that, you might expect that the Disney Fantasy cruise is like a happy parallel universe where we’re all kids and the biggest ones are only playing adults. At the entrance to the ship, a decked out crew applauds the arrival of each and every family, couple, and group of friends (singles, childless, millennials). A sparkling chandelier with thousands of Swarovski crystals, the rugs, the gilded accents, and a staircase styled after the old transatlantic liners all make us feel like we’re on a floating castle. Soon, the veteran cruise passengers are making it clear this isn’t their first rodeo. Before you can say “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” they’re already wading in the pools and savoring the buffet delights at Cabanas restaurant. I find it’s a good time to browse the cruise’s app and make note of the movies I want to see at the Buena Vista Theatre (it’s a good chance to get up to speed on Star Wars), times for the Broadway-style Aladdin and Frozen shows, and which of my favorite characters I’ll get my photo taken with. On board we’ve got Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Pluto, but there’s also the princesses, Captain Hook, and many more. At nightfall, a deck party marks the start of this Caribbean voyage. With dances and songs, Port Canaveral recedes into the distance behind us while on the horizon a number of adventures await. Among them: a trip to Disney’s private island.

The tranquility of Senses Spa, with its ocean-view sauna and Jacuzzi, leaves anyone ready to check out the boutiques, dine at the Italian delicacy restaurant, Palo, or Remy, inspired by Ratatouille, and later drink champagne cocktails at Ooh La La Bar.

La primera oportunidad de explorar el mundo de la mano de Mickey llega en San Juan. Envueltos por el calor de la capital puertorriqueña visitamos el Capitolio, la relajante playa conocida como Ventana al Mar (a donde se antoja que llegue el capitán Sparrow para brindar con una piña colada) y el imponente Castillo San Cristóbal, construido en el siglo XVII para proteger la ciudad de ataques. Desde sus altos muros se tiene una vista muy bonita del mar y los coloridos barrios. Al día siguiente llegamos a Saint Thomas, en las Islas Vírgenes de Estados Unidos. Sus aguas cristalinas nos regalan un encuentro del que Nemo estaría orgulloso: al practicar esnórquel vemos una tortuga marina que nos recuerda a Chiqui y varios peces tropicales nadando cerca de un arrecife de coral.

The first chance to explore the world hand in hand with Mickey comes in San Juan. Enveloped in the heat of the Puerto Rican capital, we visit the Capitol, the relaxing beach known as Ventana al Mar (where it wouldn’t be out of line to see Captain Sparrow arrive to say cheers with a piña colada) and the impressive Castillo de San Cristóbal –a fortress built in the seventeenth century to protect the city from attacks. From its high walls you have a very pleasing view of the ocean and the colorful neighborhoods. The next day we arrived at Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Its crystal clear water affords us an encounter that would make Nemo proud: while snorkeling we see all kinds of tropical fish swimming near a coral reef and a sea turtle who reminds us of Squirt.

Few celebrities manage to capture the psyche of practically an entire society in their persona, but Diego Armando Maradona is one of them. That’s why he seems so omnipresent in his country. “Diego is present in the life of almost all Argentinians,” says Nazareno Casero, one of the three actors in charge of bringing the left-handed ace to life in Maradona: Blessed Dream, the Amazon Prime series set to premiere this year. “Even if you’ve never seen him play, if you’re Argentinian, he’s someone you know everything about, because he’s everywhere. It’s hard to imagine life in Argentina without Maradona, even if you’re not a fan.” The fact that he’s still a relevant figure in his native country and in the world of soccer goes beyond his exploits on the field. His relevance owes to the fact that he was an emotional powerhouse who transcended the game. His goals against England at the ’86 Mexico World Cup –the one with the “hand of God” and when he breezed past half the English team from midfield– were a historic settling of scores after the Falklands War, the 1982 conflict between the Argentinian and English armies. “It was epic, like David and Goliath,” recalls Juan Palomino, who plays Maradona as an adult, “and it was also politically incorrect. But that was Maradona: a drive to break with the status quo no matter the cost.” The Argentinian team’s jersey number 10 even

Pocas celebridades capturan en su persona la psicología de casi toda una sociedad, pero Diego Armando Maradona es una de ellas. Por eso parece omnipresente en su país. “En la vida de todos los argentinos está Diego”, dice Nazareno Casero, uno de los tres actores que se encargan de dar vida al crack zurdo en Maradona: sueño bendito, serie de Amazon Prime que estrenará este año. “Aunque no lo hayas visto jugar, si eres argentino, es un personaje del que lo sabes todo, porque él lo abarca todo. Es muy difícil imaginar la vida en la Argentina sin Maradona, aunque no seas fanático”. Que aún sea una figura relevante en su país natal y en el mundo del futbol va más allá de las proezas con el balón. Su vigencia se debe a que era una fábrica de emociones que sobrepasó lo deportivo. Sus goles contra Inglaterra en el Mundial de México 86 –el de “la mano de Dios” y cuando burló a medio equipo británico desde mitad del campo– fueron un ajuste de cuentas histórico tras la Guerra de las Malvinas, ese conflicto bélico de 1982 entre los ejércitos argentino e inglés. “Fue épico, como David contra Goliat”, recuerda Juan Palomino, quien lo interpreta en su etapa adulta, “y también fue políticamente incorrecto: pero Maradona era eso, una pulsión por romper con lo establecido a como diera lugar”. La caída del héroe
La historia de Maradona es la del viaje del héroe. La de un chico que encontró en el futbol el camino para sacar de la miseria a su familia y convertirse en el hijo predilecto de una nación… hasta que las tentaciones del éxito –materializadas en su adicción a la cocaína– lo consumieron. Es la historia de 106
moved his countrymen to tears. “Watching him raise up the cup in victory in Mexico was the only sporting event that ever brought me to tears,” recalls Claudio Rissi, who plays Maradona’s father. “I thought that was something only art could do to me.” However, over three decades since the feat, he continues to move even new generations. “I think I’m more Diego’s generation than Messi’s, because everyone in my family is a Maradona fan,” says Nicolás Goldschmidt, who plays Diego at his youngest in the series, when he began to make a name for himself in Boca Juniors. “I remember we were on the set and somebody jokingly said: ‘Here’s Diego,’ and I nearly started crying.” It’s that particular quality of Maradona, his ability to capture the essence of what it means to be Argentinian –regardless of the drama in his life– that made showrunner and director Alejandro Aimetta interested in spearheading this series. “What takes place doesn’t stray from Maradona’s story, but it’s also the history of Argentina through a sport,” explains Aimetta.

It’s the story of Icarus who flew too close to the sun and the heat melted his wings. “Maradona symbolizes a series of mirrors that represent certain moments for many people,” notes Juan Palomino, who had to put on 44 pounds to play him. “I think this game of mirrors is what, for me at least, motivates me to get inside his head, that of a boy who wanted to wear wings and fly to the sun.” In Maradona: Blessed Dream, whose first season will consist of 10 episodes, the producers assure that they have been in touch witht Diego in order to tackle his life as accurately as possible, without it meaning any kind of censure. “It’s honest, we didn’t shy away from any topic,” states Aimetta. “Diego is a brave, irreverent person. He’s got balls and we couldn’t not tell the story from that perspective.” Despite being a figure that has been explored ad nauseam, especially in Argentina, the aim of the series was to portray him at a more intimate, human level. “You can understand him as a media figure but here he’s depicted as if he were a character in a novel. When you can see his past, you begin to connect the information that’s in the public domain with what happened to him at a human level. You start to connect the dots and understand it,” concludes Nazareno Casero.

Ícaro, aquel que voló demasiado cerca del sol y el calor derritió sus alas. “Diego simboliza un circuito de espejos que van representando determinados momentos de muchas personas”, reflexiona Juan Palomino, quien tuvo que subir 20 kilos para interpretarlo. “Creo que ese juego de espejos es lo que por lo menos a mí me motiva a involucrarme en su psicología, la de un chico que quiso ponerse alas y volar al sol”. En Maradona: sueño bendito, cuya primera temporada constará de 10 episodios, la producción afirma que estuvo en contacto con Diego para abordar su vida con la mayor veracidad posible, sin que esto significara algún tipo de censura. “Es honesta, no le huimos a ningún tema”, asegura Aimetta. “Diego es una persona valiente e irreverente, un personaje con huevos, y no podíamos dejar de contar la historia desde esa perspectiva”. Pese a ser una figura explorada hasta el cansancio, sobre todo en Argentina, el objetivo de la serie fue retratarlo al nivel humano más íntimo. “Uno puede tener un entendimiento de él como personaje a nivel mediático, pero aquí se le presenta como si fuera el personaje de una novela. Uno empieza a conectar esa información que es de dominio público con lo que le pasaba a nivel humano al ver su pasado. Se va trazando una línea para entenderlo”, remata Nazareno Casero. Oaxaca es una fiesta para los sentidos. A la capital y sus alrededores se viene a saborear mole, chocolate y pan de yema; beber mezcal, arroparse con sus textiles y contemplar los centenarios edificios de cantera verde reconocidos como Patrimonio Mundial. También se viene al encuentro de quienes siguen construyendo su identidad: artesanos y cocineras tradicionales, herederos de una sabiduría que han sabido trasladar a la era de las redes sociales y la producción en serie. En San Bartolo Coyotepec, comunidad situada a media hora del centro histórico oaxaqueño, Omar Sutra sigue usando el torno prehispánico legado por sus abuelos para crear artesanías de barro negro. A la par, el joven diseñador explora otras posibilidades: el uso de barro líquido y moldes para crear piezas contemporáneas con fines decorativos, entre ellas lámparas, mosaicos para recubrir paredes y galerías de cráneos que representan un vínculo sagrado con los ancestros. “Reinterpretamos, más que inventar”, dice Omar, “la inspiración es un cúmulo de conocimientos, imágenes, sonidos, olores”. Todo, agrega, lo usa para madurar una idea, bocetar y crear alfarería que ha exportado a destinos nacionales o internacionales como

In San Bartolo Coyotepec, a community located half an hour from Oaxaca’s historic center, Omar Sutra continues to use the pre-Hispanic potter’s wheel passed down to him from his grandparents in order to create black clay crafts. At the same time, the young designer explores other possibilities: the use of liquid clay and molds to create contemporary, decorative items, including lamp shades, wall tiles, and skull galleries that represent a sacred link with their ancestors. “We don’t so much as invent as we do re-interpret,” says Omar. “Inspiration is a host of knowledge, images, sounds, and smells.” In sketching and creating the pottery that has been exported to domestic and international destinations such as Germany

En el taller, los visitantes pueden sumarse a demostraciones para conocer el proceso completo, sentir entre sus manos la frescura del barro y escuchar las burbujas de aire durante el amasado, prueba de que es bueno. A pocas cuadras del andador turístico del centro histórico oaxaqueño, hay un santuario dedicado a los ingredientes de la región: el restaurante Las Quince Letras. Comandado por la cocinera tradicional Celia Florián, no es solo uno de los mejores lugares para comer en el destino, sino una puerta de entrada a las costumbres gastronómicas regionales que se han transmitido de generación en generación. Celia propone a los viajeros una clase de cocina que incluye acompañarla por los ingredientes al Mercado de Abasto. En este universo de colores, texturas y aromas, cada puesto la va inspirando para armar el menú de la experiencia: el amarillo brillante de la flor de calabaza, el morado de los elotes nativos y el rojo intenso de los jitomates riñón. “No es mi mano, ni la sabiduría. Es el producto lo que hace que sepa rico”, dice con modestia esta experta, quien aboga por una cocina sostenible, el cuidado del agua y la preservación de la cocina mexicana. De vuelta en el restaurante, con su guía prepararemos sopa de flor de calabaza, tamalitos y una ensalada con quesillo, todo desde cero y aderezado con anécdotas.

Helmed by traditional cook Celia Florián, not only is it one of the best places for lunch in the city, it’s also the gateway to regional culinary customs that have been passed down from generation to generation. Celia offers visitors a cooking class that includes an outing to procure the ingredients at Mercado de Abasto (Provision Market). In this world of colors, textures, and aromas, each stand adds to her inspiration for the experience’s menu: bright yellow squash blossom, purple native corn, intense red beefsteak tomatoes. “It’s not what I do, or the knowledge. It’s the ingredients that make a dish taste great,” claims the expert, modestly. Back at the restaurant, under the guidance of the chef who advocates for sustainable cuisine, we make a squash blossom soup, baby tamales, and a salad with a stringy Oaxacan cheese known here simply as quesillo –all from scratch and peppered with our own anecdotes as we work.

Fantásticas criaturas cobran vida entre las manos de una singular familia de artesanos que habita en San Antonio Arrazola, también a media hora de la capital oaxaqueña. En su taller y casa-museo, el linaje del artesano Manuel Jiménez aún se dedica a la talla de figuras en cedro y copal, las cuales empezó a elaborar a mediados del siglo pasado. A Manuel, conocido como “El tallador de sueños” gracias a un cuento para niños, también se le considera el padre de los alebrijes de madera, cuenta con orgullo su hijo Isaías. Y fue gracias al documental sobre artesanía mexicana filmado por la estadounidense Judith Bronowski que cobró notoriedad, cuenta a los visitantes. La casa-museo es uno de los principales atractivos del pueblito y está abierta a los viajeros para que conozcan a detalle la historia, la evolución y el proceso de creación de estas piezas, algunas exhibidas en vitrinas: un conejo con cara y barbas de anciano, gatos azules con largas colas moteadas, venados con cuernos o una pequeña jirafa colorada. Incluso es posible aprender a pintar alguna criatura con la guía de las expertas de la familia. Con suerte, un mezcal para acompañar la experiencia no se hará esperar. De Oaxaca uno siempre se va con la panza llena y el corazón contento. Y después de visitar a estos maestros, entendiendo que una forma de contribuir a que la tradición se mantenga inquebrantable: jamás hay que regatear el trabajo de los artesanos.

At their workshop and home museum, the descendants of craftsman Manuel Jiménez continue to spend their days carving figures out of cedar and copal, which Jiménez began making in the mid-twentieth century. Manuel, known as the “Carver of Dreams” thanks to a fairytale, is also considered the father of the wooden alebrijes –the name given to the fantastical carved figures, shares his son Isaias proudly. It was a documentary on Mexican handicrafts shot by American Judith Bronowski that launched him to fame, he tells the visitors. The home museum is one of the tiny town’s main attractions. It’s open to visitors so they can learn in detail about the figures’ history and evolution, and how they’re made. Some are displayed in glass cases: a rabbit with an old man’s face and whiskers, blue cats with long, spotted tails, antlered deer, and a tiny red giraffe. You can even learn to paint a creature with the guidance of one of the experts in the family. If you’re lucky, it won’t be long until they offer you some mezcal. Oaxaca is a place you always leave with a full belly and a happy heart, and, after visiting these masters, the understanding that one way to help the tradition remain undying is this: never haggle over the price of a craftsperson’s work.

or the fourth year in a row, Club de Golf Chapultepec welcomed thousands of golf fans who let their passion for the sport run wild for five days at the WGC-Mexico Championship 2020. The gorgeous golf course was filled with families, friends, and colleagues enjoying a first-class tournament with the world’s best golfers. It was an exclusive event at which both old and young spent a good time being together, learning, and having fun. The venue was impeccable, while the volunteers and organizers made sure that those in attendance once again bore witness to the fact that this is one of the best tournaments on the planet. There were moments of doubt up until the final stages of the tournament, when Bryson DeChambeau, Erik Van Rooyen, and Jon Rahm tied for the top spot on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, Patrick Reed had a splendid performance with a stunning bogey on the 18th hole making him the big winner at the WGC-Mexico. Thus, the Texan took home the trophy and a check for 1.82 million dollars.

PLAYA SIN SOL A BEACH WITH NO SUN imagina que con cada paso que das, tus pies se hunden en arena blanca. Después, sientes el agua fresca que roza tus dedos. Que canta una pacífica melodía al alejarse y regresar a la orilla, alejarse y regresar. Los cálidos rayos del sol penetran cada poro de tu piel, la brisa llena tus pulmones, la luz pinta tu reflejo en el mar. Podrías estar hasta la eternidad recorriendo este lugar. Ahora cambiemos de panorama. Con cada paso, tus pies se hunden en la arena. Sientes el agua oscura que roza tus pies, que se escucha al alejarse y regresar, alejarse y regresar. Porque la gente no teme a la vida, sino que teme a una mala vida. Una vida sin sol, sin calor, sin energía. Una vida sin significado, sin camino. Un recorrido en una playa oscura, con el mar helado, sin rayos que irradien calor. Una vida muerta. Y con esto no me refiero a una vida difícil, con carencias materiales 118

Because in most cases, from the time of the cavemen, what one fears is death. However, I think the issue goes beyond that. That fear is much more superficial. Because people don’t fear life, but fear leading a bad life. A life without sun, without heat, without energy. A life without meaning, without a path. A walk along a dark beach, with a freezing ocean, devoid of the heat-giving rays of the sun. A dead life. And I’m not talking about a hard life, with material lack and physical suffering. I’m talking about a beach

y sufrimientos físicos. Me refiero a una playa sin la luz del sol, a una vida sin pasión. Porque una vida sin pasión es como un océano sin sol. El sol hace que los corales crezcan. Así como la pasión hace que tu misión se fortalezca. El sol es necesario para que los corales cumplan con su sentido de existencia y contribuyan a que la vida marina subsista. Así como la pasión es necesaria para que al cumplir tu misión descubras el significado de tu vida. Esos rayos de energía que llenan de vida la tierra, son los mismos que debemos usar para perderle el miedo a la muerte por haber vivido una mala vida. Ahora, el problema no es no encontrar esa energía. El problema está en no seguirla. Porque así como la tierra nunca existió sin el sol, los humanos nunca hemos nacido sin pasión. Esta energía es algo innato. Es ese impulso que sentimos en el pecho, es esa sensación de querer correr por el campo. Ese anhelo de algún día tocar el cielo. Y cuando la sigues y recorres el camino trazado por su luz, es cuando encuentras la magia. Cuando te encuentras con esa playa de agua cristalina y arena blanca. Cuando dejas de temer a la muerte por miedo a no haber vivido una buena vida. Cuando dejas de temer porque has seguido tu pasión, cumplido tu misión y encontrado tu sentido de vida. Cuando sabes que has vivido una verdadera vida. without sunlight, a life without passion. Because a life without passion is like an ocean with no sun. The sun makes the coral grow, as passion makes your mission grow stronger. The sun is necessary for coral to fulfill the meaning of its existence. In turn, it contributes to supporting marine life. Just like passion is necessary so that when you fulfill your mission, you’ll discover the meaning of your life. Those energy-filled rays that fill the earth with life are the same ones we must use to shake our fear of death for having lived a bad life. Now, the problem is not finding that energy. The problem is not following it. Because just like the earth never would have existed without the sun, humans never would have been born without passion. This energy is something innate. It’s the drive we feel in our chest, the feeling that makes us want to run through the fields. It’s the longing to one day touch the sky. When you follow it and take the path set out by its light, that’s when the magic happens. That’s when you find yourself on that beach with crystal clear water and white sand. When you stop fearing death out of a fear of not having led a good life. When you stop fearing because you’ve followed your passion, fulfilled your mission, and found your sense of life. OJOS BIEN ABIERTOS EYES WIDE OPEN Entre las cosas que más disfruto en esta vida están el café y sobra decirlo, los cocteles. Hace solo unos meses, me reencontré con una manera de unir las dos: el Espresso Martini. Era un coctel que, honestamente, estaba un poco perdido en mi memoria. Tenía mucho tiempo sin encontrarlo en una carta, y se me apareció en el Café Ocampo, uno de los lugares que han llegado a alegrar mi panorama coctelero en la ciudad de México. Eran alrededor de las cinco de la tarde, hacía un poco de calor, y lo primero que me ofreció el bartender fue un espresso martini. Dudé un segundo. No sabía si iba a estar muy dulce o pesado, pero era justamente la hora del café, y mi anfitrión me prometió que era una de las mejores bebidas de la casa, así que como hay que hacer cuando se visita un lugar nuevo, confié. Pero antes de que nos enteremos cómo me fue con la bebida, hay que tomar la tradicional clase de historia para entender de dónde viene este clásico. Como muchos de los grandes cocteles, el espresso martini nació en Londres, en el Soho Brasserie. Cuenta el mito que una noche de 1983, una joven supermodelo llegó a la barra y le pidió a Dick Bradsell, el bartender, que le preparara una bebida con café. Bradsell, que era toda una celebridad del momento –también se le atribuyen la creación de cocteles como el Bramble–, tomó un shot de espresso como base y lo mezcló con vodka, azúcar y licor de café. Así nació lo que en ese momento se llamaría el Vodka Espresso. Su nombre cambió alrededor de una década después con el boom del martini –cómo olvidarlo–, cuando ningún bar o restaurante que se respetara podía prescindir de martinis preparados con todo tipo de licores de frutas o hasta chocola120
Among the things I most enjoy in this life there’s coffee and –it goes without saying– cocktails. Just a few months ago, I had a reencounter with a way to combine the two: the Espresso Martini. It was a cocktail that, honestly, I had forgotten about. It had been such a long time since I had come across one on drinks menu, and then it showed up at Café Ocampo, one of the places that have brightened the cocktail landscape for me in Mexico City. It was around five o’clock in the evening. It was a little hot, and the first thing the bartender offered me was an Espresso Martini. I hesitated for a second. I was concerned it might be too sweet or heavy. But it was precisely time for an afternoon coffee and my host promised me that it was one of the best drinks of the house. So, as one must do when visiting somewhere new, I took his word. But, before we find out about how it went with the drink, first, it’s time for the traditional history lesson in order to understand where this classic comes from. Like many great cocktails, the Espresso Martini was born in London, at the Soho Brasserie. Legend has it that one night in 1983, a young supermodel came to the bar and asked the bartender, Dick Bradsell, to make her a drink with coffee. Bradsell, who was a total celebrity at the time (he’s also credited with creating cocktails like the Bramble) took a shot of expresso as a base and mixed it with vodka, sugar, and coffee liqueur. Thus came to be what was known at the time as the Vodka Espresso. It would receive a name change nearly a decade later with the martini boom (how could we forget it?), when no self-re-

te. Tal vez sea por eso que para algunos (como yo), este coctel haya perdido algunos puntos en la escala del respeto etílico. Después de todo, los que presumimos de ser aficionados del mundo de los destilados y los cocteles, recordamos con terror la era del Appletini color verde neon. Pero en realidad, el Espresso Martini juega en otra liga. Hay que empezar por considerar sus ingredientes. Preparar un buen Espresso Martini significa, de entrada, saber hacer una buena taza de espresso, tarea que suena sencilla pero es todo un pequeño arte, pregúntenle a cualquier italiano. Una vez hecho el café (fuerte, con un poquito de espuma, no demasiado amargo, y dejándolo enfriar un poco para que no derrita demasiado el hielo), hay que asegurarse de que el equilibrio con el alcohol, el azúcar y el licor de café sea ideal, para llegar a un coctel que sea potente, revividor y solo ligeramente dulce. El toque final: el shakeado, para aprovechar al máximo la espumita del café. Ahora, más de 30 años más tarde, en otro continente y con una persona común y corriente sentada en la barra, este discípulo de Dick Bradsell me entrega mi Espresso Martini con un par de granitos de café que descansan sobre la espuma. Le cuento que tenía probablemente 15 años sin probar uno, pero prometo que no volveré a olvidarlo. Perhaps that’s the reason that for some people (like me), this cocktail has lost some points on the ethyl scale. After all, those of us who claim to be aficionados of spirits and cocktails remember with horror the era of the neon green Appletini. But in reality, the Espresso Martini plays in a league of its own. Let’s start by considering the ingredients. First of all, making a good Espresso Martini means knowing how to make a good cup of espresso. It sounds easy, but it’s a small-scale art form –just ask any Italian. Once the coffee is made (strong, with a bit of foam, not too bitter, and letting it cool a bit so that it doesn’t melt the ice too much), you have to make sure that the balance with the alcohol, sugar, and coffee liqueur is just right in order to achieve a strong, invigorating, and only slightly sweet cocktail. The final touch: shaking in order to make the most of the coffee foam. Now, more than 30 years later, on another continent and with a regular, everyday Jane seated at the bar, this Dick Bradsell disciple hands me my Espresso Martini with a couple of coffee beans floating atop the foam. I mention to him that it’s probably been 15 years since I’ve tried one but I promise to never again forget. With a good dose of caffeine it will be easy to keep my eyes wide open.

El chef Romain Tischenko estará a cargo del proyecto mexicano que consiste en un menú degustación para 20 comensales con un maridaje de vinos biodinámicos y naturales. El restaurante estará en Círculo Mexicano, una casa del siglo XVIII bellamente remodelada detrás de la Catedral Metropolitana. Desde hace 43 años, el Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, con sede en Kenia, se dedica a rescatar y rehabilitar elefantes huérfanos, protegiéndolos de los cazadores y asegurándose de que se reintegren a su ambiente natural con éxito. Para crear consciencia sobre la importancia de estos magníficos animales, el SWT se alió con los artistas Gillie and Marc para crear la instalación The Orphans, que consta de 20 esculturas de elefantes que actualmente descasan sobre los jardines de Marble Arch, en Londres, y representan a 20 elefantes que la organización ha rescatado. On the idea behind the new restaurant, chef Olvera explains: “In Las Vegas, it often happens that chefs replicate their successful concepts for the casinos. We didn’t want to do that. Instead, we wanted to do something specifically for the site. The front is a cocktail bar that will also be open for brunch so you can nurse your hangover with micheladas and chilaquiles. The back is an 80s-style restaurant/club with bottle service where you can order bottles for the table. Dishes are served in large portions for sharing like a Tomahawk con hormigas (steak with ants sauce) and a barbacoa (pit-grilled meat) to be eaten with tortillas. En su viaje por recuperar el objeto, Katsumi se ve acompañada de un dragón con el que debe sortear obstáculos y poner a prueba los valores adquiridos en el entrenamiento con su sensei. Esta obra, dirigida por Andrea Salgado, se presenta en el apartado Teatro Para Niñas y Niños de la Coordinación Nacional de Teatro. A word to the wise is sufficient, and sometimes not even
a word. Katsumi and the Dragon is a play with no dialogue that is told through the language of vision, body, and sound. It tells the story of a girl who works hard to become the first samurai in her nation. However, she loses a saber that keeps balance in the world. On her journey to get back the saber, Katsumi finds herself accompanied by a dragon with which she must face obstacles and put the values learned in her training with her sensei to the test. Directed by Andrea Salgado, the play is being put on as part of Theater for Girls and Boys at the National Theater Coordination. Half hour before the final call, kids can take part in an origami crane workshop in Xavier Villarrutia Salon at the Centro Cultural del Bosque.

GET IN THE ZONE Si algo definió la cultura pop de la década de los 90, fue la música de Britney Spears que se escuchaba en MTV y en tu Discman. Para revivir la nostalgia de la época, en Los Ángeles hay un museo interactivo dedicado a recrear sus videos más icónicos. El pop-up Britney Spears The Zone es un espacio de 30,000 metros cuadrados que, dividido en 10 habitaciones, te llevará por una experiencia única para vivir en las canciones que hicieron la carrera de la princesa del pop. El recorrido comienza en una preparatoria inspirada en el video “Hit Me Baby One More Time”. Una de las instalaciones más increíbles es la de “Toxic”, ya que reprodujeron el avión que aparece en el video, y por supuesto, todo es perfectamente instagrameable. También hay una jungla que evoca la presentación de Spears con una serpiente pitón, mientras cantaba “I’m a Slave 4 You”. The walk-through begins in a high school that’s a riff off the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” video. One of the most unbelievable installations is “Toxic.” It includes the airplane that appears in the video and everything is, of course, perfectly “Instagrammable.” Not to mention the jungle that recalls Spears’ appearance with a python while singing “I’m a Slave 4 You.” Admission to the Zone includes an RFID wristband for recording photo ops, for example, a Boomerang of you holding the python like Britney.

WHITE IS THE NEW RED España acaba de añadir un capítulo a su extensa historia vinícola: por primera vez habrá vinos blancos bajo la Denominación de Origen de Ribera del Duero. No es que la producción no existiera antes, sino que hasta hace seis meses la D.O. únicamente era para vinos tintos y rosados. Los vinos blancos de Ribera del Duero se producen con al menos 75% de la uva albillo mayor, autóctona de la región. Alrededor de 30 etiquetas de vino blanco ya presumen la nueva D.O., todos jóvenes y frescos, sin embargo, la expectativa es que en los próximos años surjan opciones con reposo en barricas que se convertirán en referentes a nivel mundial. Spain has just added a chapter to its extensive winemaking history: for the first time, white wines will be included under the Ribera del Duero designation of origin (or D.O., denominación de origen). It’s not that white wine production did not exist in this region before, but, up until six months ago, the D.O. was only for reds and rosés. White wines from Ribera del Duero are produced with at least 75% Albillo Mayorgrapes, which are indigenous to the region. Some 30 white wines (all of them young and fresh) already boast the new D.O. During works, some domestic flights will be operated from remote positions, and passengers will be transported by bus in order to board their flight. En la mayoría de los restaurantes los chefs son hombres. En los festivales gastronómicos gran parte de los participantes son hombres. Esto debe cambiar. En Aeroméxico estamos comprometidos con dar mayor visibilidad a las mujeres, por eso invitamos a la chef Elena Reygadas a diseñar el menú de las rutas de Ciudad de México hacia Europa en Clase Premier. While women have an ancestral relationship with cooking, the world of professional cooking is dominated by men: the lists of the world’s best restaurants are practically devoid of women. Chefs in most restaurants are men.The majority of participants at food festivals are men.This has to change.
