SEE IN FOR SIDE HIG MOR HLI GHTE S!
Welcome to our NEW LOOK Stitches & Craft Show! The show is jam packed with MORE features than ever before. This year there are plenty of new things to see and some new twists on traditional crafts. Hats off to milliner Jennifer O’Brien who will demonstrate hat making techniques and show you some of the amazing styles she has created. Try your hand – you could start by just making a small embellishment to add to an existing hat. Crafty handmade birds will be preening their feathers before they go on display. We’re bringing the finalists of our Make a Birdie competition. People from all over Australia created birds using various techniques from paper mache, to sewing, textile sculpture and crochet. Stitch up a storm with Paula. See fresh modern quilts, toys and soft furnishings by designer Paula Storm and then sit down with her and learn how to quilt. Celebrate Flower Power – and enjoy an amazing freeform knit and crochet installation made of hundreds of psychedelic flowers and sixties symbols from knitters around the world. When hundreds of people get together, beautiful things can be created! Confess to colouring. When the kids are colouring in do you want to join them? Colouring-in for grown-ups is a huge trend at present and adult colouring-in books are on best seller lists all over the world. It’s relaxing and stress-busting. Colour in our huge mural from the famous Secret Garden book. Fashion or art? When you see the Art U Wear competition outfits you’ll see some of them cross the boundaries from sewing to artwork. The theme this year was Iconic Australia. Textile artist Fiona Hammond works with felt and beads to make lovely accessories. She’ll teach you too! And if you haven’t tried quilling – the art of creating with rolled paper strips, then I think you’ll be inspired to after you see the work of guest artist Christine Donehue. Plus we have the QuiltHouse SchoolHouse for the first time, new international quilts, craft for kids, papercraft pop up classes, woodturners and more, read on for details. And the NEW LOOK? We’ve had a makeover! At the show this year you’ll see our stands have a chalkboard with their show specials or new products, and a colour-coded flag which represents their product category. See you there,
PS. We’re only here once a year – come along and make the most of it! Grab a copy of Yours or Take 5 magazine* to get $5 off your entry ticket! Be inspired by daily demonstrations of this beautiful craft

Colouring-in for adults is the latest craze – try it for yourself with our interactive murals using work by popular artist Johanna Basford. The artwork is from her best-selling book, Secret Garden, An Inky Treasure Hunt and Colouring Book, which features stunning illustrations of flowers, insects, birds and small animals. Originally published as a colouring book, crafters are now using the designs as inspiration for embroidery and quilting designs too! See Johanna’s artwork at the show in all its glory – and you can have a turn at colouring it in! Johanna says; ‘I hand draw all my images, preferring pens and pencils to pixels. I delight in smudgy finger prints, wobbly hand penned lines and the odd ink blot, these little imperfections are what give drawings character, soul and that true sense of organic.’ Presented by Johanna Basford and Expertise Events.
Christine will be running FREE 30-minute demonstrations on basic quilling techniques including scrolls, coils, crimping and much more. Demonstration times are 12noon, 1.30pm and 3pm.
International Art Quilts on Display Enjoy 50 A4-size pieces of textile art from Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA) This unique trunk show – ‘Trunk Show F’ is designed to showcase SAQA’s diversity of talent and its mission to “promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications.” Learn more about these quilts at the show.
