South Carolina House of Representatives and an attorney, were wed on a balmy December afternoon in an intimate ceremony in Washington Square, a quiet park behind Charleston’s City Hall.

escorted with her mother to the park via the fashionable fixed-top convertible, The Pink Figgy, a rare Nissan Figaro. Megan entered the park from Chalmers Street—one of the most iconic cobblestone streets in the city, shaded by gorgeous oak trees and lined by a wrought iron gate masterfully forged by Philip Simmons, the legendary local African American blacksmith known as a poet of ironwork.

and friends, around a bespoke flower installation by Salt + Stem Flower Co., Violinist Preston Barbare of EdgeWire Music serenaded the small group and the newlyweds made it official by jumping the broom—an African American tradition that Megan was adamant on including in the ceremony.

couple at Henrietta’s, the restaurant inside The Dewberry hotel. The space was filled with flickering candles and decor that highlighted the holiday season. Cocktail hour was hosted in the bar, and a fourcourse meal with wine pairings followed in the dining room. Tables were adorned with lush verdant garlands, candlestick sand bowls of fresh seasonal fruit, and each place setting had a menu with the guest’s name written in calligraphy. The ceremony flowers were repurposed around the dining and cake tables and the evening concluded with dancing and a celebratory champagne toast from festive hand-blown red glass coupes.

Hotel room blocks for weddings allow guests to stay in the same hotel (or several different hotels) and make planning and transportation a breeze. Start with hotels within proximity to your reception venue, next consider amenities, and finally price point. You should reserve hotel room blocks with at least two hotels if you are having a lot of out-of-town guests and a larger-thanaverage guest list of over 200. Share with the hotels of your choice expected arrival and departure dates, as well as any special requests you’re hoping they can accommodate, like welcome bags or in-room gifts. Book a smaller number of rooms at first and add more later if needed. This will help you avoid penalties if rooms go unreserved. Once you’ve found a property that meets your needs, you will need to negotiate the contract terms. This is where a wedding planner’s industry experience becomes invaluable. evening, signaling to your guests they were welcome to head home. Grooms cakes, now another delicious dessert option, were once used as the wedding favor. The cake was sliced, boxed, and given to guests upon departure. Unwed women would sleep with the cake under their pillow, hoping to dream of their groom-to-be, a superstition similar to the bouquet toss. The cake’s top tier, reserved for the newlyweds, is saved and consumed on the couple’s first anniversary, a sentiment of good luck and prosperity. Subtle ruffles with metallic accents and pops of fresh flowers to colorful cascading candies, these works of art are good enough to eat.

CHARLESTON PLACE A Classic Winter Wedding in Charleston Caroline and Chris had a classic, intimate celebration with 65 of their closest friends and family in the Grand Ballroom of Charleston Place. Rescheduled due to Covid-19, the couple finally celebrated their nuptials at the stunning St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic church in the Carolinas and Georgia. After, guests walked through the church’s garden courtyard to a cocktail hour held in the Grand Hall of Charleston Place, overlooking King Street. After, guests mingled under the picturesque chandelier and the happy couple even cut their wedding cake with a family saber. A December wedding, the bride chose colors that celebrated the holiday season including winter whites, rich ruby reds and bold blush tones. Furs for the bridal party completed the winter wonderland vibes.
