The Years of Culture initiative is dedicated to bringing people together by highlighting similarities while celebrating the uniqueness of each culture. Sharing art, traditions, and stories helps us connect on a deeper level and find common ground, no matter where we’re from.
That same spirit of connection is what brought the Longines Global Champions Tour to Rabat for the first time. This prestigious equestrian event is more than just a competition; it unites people from around the world through common interests. Hosting it in Morocco’s historic capital is a perfect representation of how sports and culture intertwine. As we proudly celebrate the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, the shared passion for equestrian arts makes the introduction of the renowned Longines Global Champions Tour in Rabat a key milestone in strengthening the cultural bond between the two countries.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the first-ever edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rabat founded by Years of Culture as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024.
We are delighted to be staging our 2024 LGCT and GCL Championship Finals in the Moroccan capital. I have no doubt the region will evolve to be one of the big players in show jumping as equestrian sport continues to grow strongly here.
Indeed, our sport continues to grow in popularity worldwide and following incredible events this

“Years of Culture” has named Morocco as Qatar’s partner for this year 2024. It is a great honor for us, a unique opportunity, and an exceptional occasion to showcase or rediscover in Qatar and around the world the richness of Morocco’s cultural heritage in all its diversity, as well as its unique characteristics, which make it a centuries-old, one-of-a-kind country.
This year, “Qatar-Morocco 2024,” is especially important as it highlights the depth of the strong and historical ties between the two brotherly nations and their leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Under the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, Morocco is a centuries-old country rich in its history, traditions, culture, and arts. It is this ever-evolving human and civilizational capital that we will be showcasing to Qatar and the world during this cultural year of QatarMorocco 2024.
The program will include the promotion of both countries’ art and craftsmanship traditions, as well as major exhibitions, culinary experiences, musical events, and sports encounters.
The Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) is one of these prestigious sporting events that Morocco will host as part of this cultural year. After iconic cities
such as Paris, New York, Monaco, and Riyadh, this world-renowned show jumping circuit will take place in Rabat.
Rabat, City of Light, will rise to the occasion. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the city wonderfully combines ancestral traditions with modernity. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the city aims to be the symbol of Moroccan culture, home to numerous cultural monuments.
Moreover, Morocco, and Rabat in particular, holds a special connection to horses that spans centuries, deeply rooted in the country’s heritage traditions. This is an additional asset for all the participants who will take part in this event and who will be able to discover the richness and unique aspects of Morocco’s equestrian world.
We warmly welcome all participants in this event and all those who will visit Morocco as part of Qatar-Morocco 2024, as well as everyone who will take part in the many Moroccan events held in Qatar. I am confident that Morocco, Land of Light, will dazzle you.
Finally, I would like to thank, on behalf of myself and our country, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Qatar for this wonderful initiative, “QatarMorocco 2024,” a unique event that strengthens the exceptional bonds of fraternity between our two countries.
The 2024 Longines Global Champions Tour in Rabat is the perfect setting to showcase the new Mini DolceVita models with exclusive double tour straps. With its discreet profile, classic styling, and aesthetic variations that are at once timely and timeless, this collection exquisitely expresses, in equal parts, Longines’ quiet luxury and elegance.
Available in various sizes and colours, these models are equipped with straps that are designed exclusively by Longines and encircle the wrist in comfort and softness. A subtle reference to the equestrian world so dear to the Swiss watch brand, the holes in the straps are numbered in hot-press printing from 1 to 6, just like the stirrup leathers that, as the name suggests, connect the saddle to the horse’s stirrups.
Presented in a stainless-steel rectangular case measuring 21.50 mm x 29.00 mm and equipped with a high-precision L178 quartz movement, the new Mini DolceVita models are available in six variants as elegant as they are unique. Three versions sport a silvered rectangular Roman dial distinguished by its flinqué decoration. These models are distinguished by a double tour strap in Nappa leather in a choice of colours: black, beige gold with ivory topstitching, or pink. The two latter models are adorned with 38 Top Wesselton diamonds. A further three variants are available with a circular silvered sunblasted Cosmo dial. In an expression of the collection’s contemporary elegance, these models sport Nappa leather straps in a choice of colours: red, orange or green.
This contemporary jewel watch collection has an impressive lineage: it was inspired by a Longines legend created in 1927 and, of course, the original DolceVita collection.
WELCOME TO
Rabat on Morocco’s sun-kissed coastline is a captivating fusion of tradition and modernity adding another fascinating new destination to the Longines Global Champions Tour circuit.
The Moroccan capital, on the Atlantic shoreline, invites visitors to discover stunning ancient monuments, beautiful gardens and ultra modern architecture. The Longines Global Champions Tour of Rabat founded by Years of Culture as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 show ground is close to the magnificent new Grand Theatre of Rabat, the city’s new cultural nexus designed by the late legendary architect Zaha Hadid. The spectacular and elegant silhouette of the Chellah, an ancient fortified monument dating back to Roman times, is another unmissable site that is part of the truly memorable cultural experience for visitors to Rabat.
Visitors and guests at the LGCT of Rabat can soak up the unique ambience, enjoy traditional culinary delicacies and views of the modern city skyline and ancient city. Located on the Atlantic shoreline, where beaches stretch towards the city of Casablanca, Rabat offers an unforgettable experience for lovers of culture, music, sport and history.
We are part of a global community, often more connected than we realize when we take the time to look beyond the surface. This is the essence of the Years of Culture initiative – facilitating deeper bonds and providing a platform for discovery through an exchange program that pairs Qatar with a different country each year. The initiative’s comprehensive programming encourages the exploration of cultural identities through creative industries, social development, innovation, and heritage.
Since its launch in 2012 by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Years of Culture initiative has championed the idea that cultural exchange is fundamentally important to building mutual respect and understanding between diverse societies. It has become a powerful platform for bridging gaps between cultures through long-lasting ties, such as exhibitions, festivals, educational partnerships, and exchanges, organized in partnership with local and international collaborators.
The 2024 partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco is the first Year of Culture that Qatar celebrates one-on-one with a North African country. A full lineup of events has been tailored to encompass various cultural components to spark exploration and connection between the people of both nations. This partnership reflects the Years of Culture’s ongoing commitment to enriching lives and creating lasting bonds through the universal language of culture that makes up the fabric of our daily lives.

MADRID IN MOTION
As the 2024 GCL heads into its final stage in Rabat, Morocco, the spotlight is on two powerhouse teams: Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian, the reigning champions, and Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames, an allfemale team making waves in their debut season. The question on everyone’s mind: Who will lift the 2024 GCL Championship trophy?
Riesenbeck’s Reign: The Kings of Consistency Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian has been a dominant force since the 2023 season. Last year, they clinched the championship title with an astonishing six stage victories out of 15, demonstrating not only talent but also remarkable mental toughness. Team manager Ludger Beerbaum, a legend in the sport, expertly guided the team, keeping them focused and calm under pressure.
Fast forward to 2024, and although Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian has only secured one stage win this year, their hallmark consistency has kept them in the race. The team secured second place with 264 points heading into the final showdown. The margin to first may seem large, but Riesenbeck’s resilience could be the game changer in Rabat.
Cannes Stars’ Meteoric Rise: A Debut to Remember
In stark contrast to the seasoned Riesenbeck squad, the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames are new to the GCL stage. However, they have quickly proven that they belong in the top tier of the sport. Led by top riders like Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, Katrin Eckermann, and U25 talent Sophie Hinners, this all-female team has defied the odds and expectations.
With four stage wins in 2024 and a commanding total of 287 points, the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames have been at the top of the leaderboard for much of the season. Their powerful performances in cities like St. Tropez and Monaco have marked them as serious contenders, while their ability to handle pressure has kept them in first place going into Rabat.
But despite their lead, the team knows that Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian is closing in fast. Just 23 points separate the two teams, and with everything on the line, the battle in Rabat promises to be a nailbiter.
As the two teams prepare for Rabat, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Riesenbeck, with experience and consistency, is determined to close the gap and repeat their 2023 success. Cannes Stars, riding a wave of momentum, aim to make history as the first all-female team to lift the trophy.
Adding to the suspense is the Stockholm Hearts powered by H&M We Love Horses, sitting third with 245 points. While they’re not out of the race entirely, the focus remains on the top two teams, whose head-to-head rivalry has captivated fans all season long.
With everything on the line in Rabat, fans can expect a dramatic conclusion to the 2024 GCL season. Will Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian repeat their 2023 triumph, relying on consistency and composure to reclaim the title? Or will the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames, with their trailblazing debut season, defy the odds and lift the trophy in Morocco?
One thing is for sure: the final stage will be a battle for the ages.
