Never has photography been more vital to communication than in this digital age, where information is disseminated with such remarkable speed. The power of images has always been profound, connecting civilizations far and wide. Photographs tell untold stories, illuminate knowledge, and describe visually what is impossible to describe with words. In recent years, the Internet has transformed publishing into an egalitarian industry, making it possible for anyone, anywhere, to been seen and heard by millions. Celebrities are made, elections are swung, and, most recently, revolutions are staged and streamed online for the world to watch and participate in. The ability to experience an event across the globe, in real time, has affected our culture remarkably. We are a global community of infinite stories and unique perspectives, which we capture in images that have the power to change the world. Recognizing the growing value of photography to our culture, SeeMe has launched the The Exposure Award, making it possible for photographers around the world to have their work seen by an audience of millions. Assessing entries from around the globe, the EXPOSURE judging panel was overwhelmed by incredible work in multiple genres: documentary, travel, fashion, and fine art photography among them. The array of work was simply awe-inspiring: photographers illustrating their ideas, beliefs, loves, geographies, histories, and livelihoods to demonstrate that, with all our differences, we are one community connected through our love of images. It is with great reverence for the history of the printed image that we are delighted to present this publication, paying homage to the unbridled power of photography by featuring the top photographers of the fifth annual Exposure Award.
