A Rockford, Mich., couple with 13 sons is expecting a 14th child in April but waiting until the birth to learn its sex. “I would love to have a girl, but I just don’t think it’s in the cards,” Jay Schwandt said. He and his wife, Kateri, said adding another child to their family won’t be too hard; Kateri is used to large families since she was one of 14. Jay said this will likely be their last child — but the couple said the same thing when No. 13 was on the way. (AP)
Jo and Lonnie Harrison of Houston say they’re victims of a house heist. They told police that their one-bedroom, one-bath cabin was missing from their vacation property in Madisonville, Texas. They bought the land, with the prefabricated home on site, last year. Lonnie went to check on it last week. “All I saw were blocks and pipes sticking out,” he said. “The whole house was gone.” (AP)
Fans of big-box retailer Target, saddened by the closing of an outlet in Hutchinson, Kan., gathered outside for a candlelight vigil Friday. COMEDY People can seem so tense these days, says Megan Rummler. They walk around in their own orbits, consumed by their own thoughts and opinions. But comedy? It can offer a release, a way to talk about a difficult subject. “Comedy is like — it’s like this big sigh, right?” says Rummler, an American University graduate student. “It’s like, let’s take a big step back. Let’s breathe. Let’s re-center ourselves and go from there.” But comedy is also serious business, which explains why some at American are so interested in the intersection of comedy and social issues. Proving this is no laughing matter, American brought in a real pro with a fancy title: comedian in residence. Bethany Hall holds that title. In her role, she hopes to make people who aren’t on the same page as her socially laugh. Hall is a writer and performer, a regular on truTV’s “The Chris Gethard Show.” Her new gig as comedian in residence is a one-year fellowship that started in January and

is underwritten by a foundation. The arrival of the comedian in residence is the latest chapter in the Laughter Effect, which the school’s Center for Media & Social Impact inaugurated last year to enshrine its commitment to studying laughter, social issues and how good jokes can help us understand our world. Part of the Laughter Effect focuses on research, working to understand how comedy can engage members of an audience and how it can spur the public to connect with social issues.

Hall’s role is to create original comedy that addresses social issues. That material will not only draw from what researchers have already learned, but also will be released and studied. Hall said comedy has a “disarming” ability when it feels like there is a wall and people just don’t communicate with those on the other political side. “A good laugh kind of knocks a few bricks off that wall,” she says. “And very few other things have the ability to do that.” SARAH LARIMER (THE WASHINGTON POST)

MARYLAND Walter Irving Maddox was on the phone making New Year’s Eve plans when he heard a knock on the door of his secluded cottage steps from the creek where he’d spent decades hauling crabs. From the other end of the line, his girlfriend heard voices. Then, sharp banging, followed by groans and gurgling. The metallic sound, she would soon learn, was a neighborhood teenager, James E. Bowie, pummeling the 68-year-old Maddox with an aluminum baseball bat. Bowie was a high school dropout in 1995, fueled by drugs and anger. He never intended to hurt Maddox so severely, just to subdue him while a friend grabbed the waterman’s cash, Bowie said recently. Maddox, now 90, was never the same. Bowie was 17. He was sentenced in 1997 to life in prison with the possibility of parole — a possibility his lawyers say exists on paper, but carries no real chance for release. Maryland is one of three states, along with California and Oklahoma, that requires the governor’s signature to parole inmates sentenced to life. In the past two decades, no Maryland governor has signed off on a parole board

recommendation to release a lifer like Bowie who committed his crime before he turned 18. “My life experience stopped at 17,” Bowie, now 40, said from state prison in Hagerstown. “I needed to be punished for what I did … but the rest of my life is overkill. I’m not the same person I was.” His case is one of four being considered this week by the state’s highest court in Annapolis in a challenge to the legality of the Maryland parole system. Prison reform advocates say the system is unconstitutional. The question for the Maryland Court of Appeals is whether a young person can be sentenced to life without what advocates say is any realistic chance of parole. The outcome could affect nearly 300 lifers locked up for crimes they committed as juveniles.
In several rulings, the Supreme Court prohibited a sentence of life without parole for juveniles in all but the rarest cases, saying most juvenile offenders should have a “meaningful opportunity” to show they have matured and to be released. “The Supreme Court has been so clear and so forceful about how the landscape has changed,” said Sonia Kumar of the American Civil Liberties Union, an attorney challenging Maryland’s parole system in a separate federal case. “There really isn’t any excuse for why Maryland is still operating the way it is and denying people who were sent to prison as kids any hope of relief no matter how thoroughly they’ve turned their lives around,” she said. Virginia Senate passes teen sexting legislation Bill would no longer make it a felony to share explicit images VIRGINIA The Virginia Senate on Monday passed a bill intended to keep teenagers who willingly share sexually explicit images with each other from being branded felony sex offenders. The measure, which passed on a bipartisan 35-to-5 vote, would give prosecutors the option to charge “sexting” among minors as a misdemeanor. Under current law, the sender and recipient can be charged with dissemination and possession of

child pornography, a felony. That means prosecutors must choose between bringing felony charges or doing nothing, said Sen. William Stanley, R-Franklin, who sponsored the bill with Sen. Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax. Stanley said the legislation would give prosecutors the option to “do something in the middle, not to end someone’s life before it even begins with a felony conviction that doesn’t fit the crime.” Under the legislation, a minor who transmits sexually explicit images to another minor could be charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,500, as long as there is no
intent to use the image to harass, intimidate or extort money. That scenario might apply to teens who show off explicit photos of their girlfriend or boyfriend to friends, supporters of the bill said. A handful of senators said the legislation could make it more likely that minors face criminal charges for something that might otherwise be left in the realm of parental discipline. “You don’t need a statute to take the phone away,” said Sen. Chap Petersen, D-Fairfax. “It’s well-intentioned, but what we need is more involved parenting.” It now goes to the House of Delegates for consideration. LAURA VOZZELLA (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Panel votes to release rebuttal to GOP memo
CREEPY
Spider relative discovered in amber fossil
POLITICS The House Intelligence Committee voted Monday to release a Democratic rebuttal to GOP accusations that the FBI misled a secret surveillance court — but whether the information actually becomes public will depend on President Trump, who has heaped scorn on the effort. The vote means the political rancor roiling Congress is likely to continue, as accusations and counter-accusations fly about which party is misrepresenting or misusing sensitive intelligence surrounding the ongoing probe into whether any Trump associates coordinated with the Kremlin to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Before the vote, T rump charged in a tweet that the committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, Calif., “leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information” and “must be stopped” — suggesting the president may decide not to allow Schiff’s assertions to be made public. The committee’s Republican members previously signaled they would support eventually making the memo public, and the panel’s chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, RCalif., predicted the committee would approve its release.

Democratic response to criticism of FBI now awaits Trump’s review
Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has taken fire from President Trump, who dubbed him “Little Adam Schiff.”
The four-page GOP document released Friday accuses the FBI and the Justice Department of misusing information from a British ex-spy during the 2016 election to help justify their warrant application to surveil a former Trump campaign adviser, Carter Page. The Democrats’ 10-page rebuttal, written by Schiff and staffers, suggests that the Republicans’ memo is misleading and relies on cherry-picked information intended to discredit the ongoing probe into possible links between Russian agents and the Trump campaign. In his Monday tweet, the president accused “Little Adam Schiff” of being “one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington,” along with former FBI
director James B. Comey; Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Va., vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee; former CIA Director John Brennan; and former director of national intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. All had spoken out against releasing the GOP memo. Schiff needed Republican support to carry his motion. Even with the committee voting to release his memo, the final say belongs to Trump. Under congressional rules, the president has five days to consider whether to block the memo’s release. If he blocks it, Nunes could still ask the full House to override the president’s decision.
A new, spider-like species with both modern and ancient features was named after the chimera, a mythical creature with a lion’s head and a serpentlike tail. The species, dubbed Chimerarachne yingi, or “chimera spider,” was found in fossilized amber in Myanmar. Its mix of features — a long, skinny tail inherited from a distant arachnid ancestor, and a silk-producing organ like those found in spiders today — gave it its name. The new species, which was alive when dinosaurs walked the earth, was detailed by two Chinese researchers in a paper published Monday in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution. Researchers say it’s possible some of the species are still alive today. (TWP)

Senators push bipartisan plan on immigration Two senators eager to see Congress start crossing items off its long to-do list introduced a bipartisan plan Monday designed to settle two of the more pressing parts of the immigration debate. Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Christopher A. Coons, D-Del., introduced a bill that would grant permanent legal status to undocumented immigrants, or “Dreamers,” and start bolstering security along the U.S.-Mexico border. But the measure would not immediately authorize spending the $25 billion President Trump is seeking to fortify the border with new wall and fence construction. Some Republicans are seeking at least $30 billion. The McCain-Coons plan also would grant legal status to dreamers who have been in the country since 2013 — a larger pool of undocumented immigrants than the 1.8 million Trump supports legalizing. Coons told reporters Monday that he has not heard from top congressional leaders about his proposal and that he considers it one of several proposals that could earn a vote. Trump, however, appeared to stand firm on his demands to fund the wall as part of any DACA legislation. “Any deal on DACA that does not include STRONG border security and the desperately needed WALL is a total waste of time,” he tweeted Monday. nation+world In wake of ISIS’ decline, just 4,000 will remain, to keep training Iraqis IRAQ The U.S. has started to reduce the number of its troops in Iraq following Baghdad’s declaration of victory over the Islamic State group last year, an Iraqi government spokesman and Western contractors said Monday. The move marks a shift in priorities for the U.S. following the collapse of the extremists’ so-called caliphate late last year.
It also comes about three months ahead of Iraqi national elections in which paramilitary groups with close ties to Iran are set to play a decisive role. Some of those groups want U.S. forces out. Dozens of U.S. soldiers have been transported from Iraq to Afghanistan on daily flights in the past week, along with weapons and equipment, the contractors said. An Associated Press reporter at Al-Asad base in western Iraq saw troop movements reflecting the account by contractors. “The battle against Daesh has

A U.S. spokesman for the coalition did not dispute the reports. One senior Iraqi official said 60 percent of all U.S. troops still in Iraq will be withdrawn, according to an agreement with Washington. Salah Abdeslam, believed to be the last surviving member of the terrorist cell that mounted the deadly Paris attacks of November 2015, went on trial Monday, lashing out at prosecutors but ultimately refusing to answer questions. Abdeslam, 28, is standing trial in Brussels for an incident that happened four months after a coordinated series of Islamic State-orchestrated assaults across Paris killed 130 people. Belgian prosecutors are trying him for his alleged role in a Brussels shooting in March 2016, when Abdeslam was still a fugitive from the Paris attacks, and was Europe’s most-wanted man.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday let a court-ordered redrawing of congressional districts in Pennsylvania proceed, raising Democratic hopes that a revamped map might yield them several more seats this fall. Justice Samuel Alito, who handles emergency appeals from the state, rejected a Republican request to put the order on hold. Pennsylvania’s high court ruled last month that the current 18-district map violates the state constitution by unfairly benefiting Republicans. The decision comes just four days before the deadline for submitting a replacement map to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf. (AP)

Dow drops 1,175 points Downturn, though largely expected, raises concerns after stretch of upward progress Trump touts tax law
SPENCER PLATT (GETTY IMAGES)
MARKETS The Dow Jones industrial average plunged 1,175 points Monday in an exceptionally volatile day for financial markets across the globe, stirring concerns about the durability of the long-running bull market. In the biggest global sell-off since 2016, financial markets from Asia to Europe to America were rocked by concerns about inflation and a sharp rise in government bond yields. The sharp drop in the Dow — it was off 1,600 points in afternoon trading — was the largest ever intraday loss for the iconic index. But in percentage terms, the drop was far smaller — at 4.6 percent — a sign of just how much the Dow and the overall stock market have gained in value in recent years. The downturn promised to raise fresh anxieties among Americans who have seen their retirement savings climb steadily over the past year. It also threatened to deprive President Trump and the GOP of a favorite talking point at the nascent stages of the 2018 midterm campaign. While the declines were eyecatching, market observers have been anticipating a correction after months of a steady gain to historic highs in the Dow, the broader Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index and the Nasdaq. “This was crowd psychology at its best,” said Daniel Wiener, chief executive of Adviser Investments. “Investors had the weekend to worry about what happened Friday, and they sold on Monday. This is normal, everyday stock market volatility.” Luke Tilley, chief economist at Wilmington Trust, said a correction would be healthy for the market because it would return some

bond was trading at 2.851 percent on Monday. Bond yields are rising as the Federal Reserve trims its U.S. bond holdings. The rise in bond yields is also hitting utilities, Real Estate Investment Trusts and other reliable, dividendheavy stocks. The U.S. Treasury is also having to borrow more money, partly because of the tax cuts, and issuing more debt tends to raise yields. The stock market has lost $1 trillion in value in the first five days of February. TRANSPORTATION Federal investigators spent a second day Monday at the site of a deadly train crash in South Carolina, where an Amtrak train was mistakenly sent off a main track, along a side spur and into a parked freight train. The ensuing crash Sunday killed two people and injured more than 100. National Transportation Safety Board investigators are already focusing on a switch that may have caused the passenger train to barrel onto the wrong track. Authorities say the crash could have been prevented with a GPSbased system called “positive train control,” which knows the location of all trains and the positions of all switches in an area and is designed to prevent two trains from traveling on the same track at the same time. Regulators have demanded the implementation of positive train control for decades, and the technology is in place in the Northeast, but railroads that operate tracks used by Amtrak elsewhere in the U.S. have won extensions from the government. The deadline for installing the system is now the end of 2018. NTSB chairman Robert Sumwalt said the Amtrak train hurtled down a side track because the freight train crew manually locked the switch to drive it to the side track where it was parked. The system that operates train signals was down because it was being updated to positive train control, Sumwalt said.

A Super Bowl win doesn’t guarantee Nick Foles a spot with the Eagles next season.
SUPER BOWL LII
Foles showed no fear
Super Bowl MVP embraced prospect of failure, could be valuable trade chip for Philly NFL Along this unforgettable journey full of self-doubt and selfdiscovery, Nick Foles learned a valuable lesson about himself, the business of football and the redeeming power of failure. There were so many times he had fallen short of his goals, so many times he had failed to meet expectations, so many times when he wasn’t sure where his path would lead. But as he stood on the podium during a Monday morning news conference, in between the Vince Lombardi and Pete Rozelle trophies, the Super Bowl MVP spoke of how he’s embraced the struggle and found beauty in the setbacks. “The big thing is: Don’t be afraid to fail,” said Foles, who
threw for three touchdowns and caught a TD pass on a trick play in the Eagles’ 41-33 win over the Patriots on Sunday night Minneapolis. “Failure is a part of life, that’s a part of building character and growing,” Foles said. “Without failure, who would you be?” The quarterback was traded from Philly in March 2015, resigned with the Eagles two years later to serve as Carson Wentz’s backup and was then propelled into the starting role after Wentz suffered a season-ending knee injury in December. Foles went on to complete 77 of 106 passes (72.6 percent) during the playoffs. Only two other players in history had a higher completion percentage
Flacco’s run tops Foles’ In three playoff starts, Nick Foles averaged 323.7 yards passing and completed 72.6 percent of his throws with six TDs and one interception. But, based on passer rating, Foles can’t say he had the best-ever postseason by a quarterback. His passer rating of 115.7 is third (minimum 100 attempts) behind the Saints’ Drew Brees in 2010 (117.0) and the Ravens’ Joe Flacco in 2013 (117.2). (TWP)
in a single postseason (minimum of 75 attempts): Joe Montana and Troy Aikman. Foles, however, isn’t even guaranteed to be on the Eagles’ roster in 2018.
Less than 12 hours after Philly defeated the defending champions, coach Doug Pederson was pressed on his quarterback situation. The team that belonged to Wentz won a Super Bowl on the arm strength and accuracy of Foles, the backup-turned-starter who outdueled Tom Brady and is under contract for next season. Wentz is coming off major knee surgery, and it’s unclear when he’ll return. But the Eagles, who don’t have a second- or thirdround pick in this year’s draft, could field trade offers for Foles. “I knew I couldn’t get off the stage without that question,” Pederson joked. “You know what? We’re just going to enjoy this moment.” KIMBERLEY A. MARTIN

Butler questions benching Despite playing the biggest share of New England’s defensive snaps in the regular season, Malcolm Butler was benched in the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. Butler, who played 97.83 percent of defensive snaps this season and had a game-clinching interception against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl three years ago, was told just before kickoff that he would be replaced by Eric Rowe, a larger cornerback whom coaches felt would match up better against the Eagles’ big receivers. “They gave up on me,” Butler told ESPN after the game. “F---. It is what it is. … I could have changed that game.” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the move to sit Butler was a football decision, not a disciplinary one. (EXPRESS)

Philly cleans up after chaos
Philadelphia was cleaning up Monday after pockets of Super Bowl victory celebrations turned unruly overnight, with rowdy Eagles fans smashing department store windows, looting a gas station convenience store and toppling a number of city light poles that were greased to stymie climbers. The vast majority of revelers celebrated peacefully, and only three arrests were made, a spokeswoman for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said. (AP)

Ex-Patriots coordinator, aeronautical engineer will replace Jim Caldwell
NFL The Lions hired Matt Patricia on Monday, doubling down on the franchise’s hope it can copy the Patriots’ formula for success. The hiring of New England’s defensive coordinator came a day after the Patriots lost to Philadelphia in the Super Bowl.
“This position comes with great responsibility, and I will commit every ounce of my energy to this football team, starting today,” Patricia said in a statement released by the team. Bob Quinn, Detroit’s general manager, made the move to reunite with Patricia, his former coworker in New England. The Lions plan to formally introduce Patricia, 43, at a news conference Wednesday. The International Olympic Committee rejected a request Monday to invite 15 Russians to the PyeongChang Games, just days after the athletes’ doping bans were overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 13 active athletes and two retired athletes in support roles had their bans overturned by the CAS on Thursday. The IOC said evidence not examined by the CAS led to new doping suspicions. The IOC did not name the athletes. Russian officials have said they include two gold-medal winners from 2014 — cross-country skier Alexander Legkov and skeleton racer Alexander Tretiakov. (AP)
The worst sex-abuse case in sports history ended Monday with a third long prison sentence for Larry Nassar, and his victims vowed to keep fighting for accountability in the scandal that raised alarms about the ask-no-questions culture within gymnastics. More than 250 women and girls have reported abuse by Nassar. Monday’s sentence of 40 to 125 years was for crimes at an elite Michigan gymnastics club. Nassar, 54, was already guaranteed to serve a life sentence. Before serving his two state terms, the former doctor for Michigan State and U.S. Gymnastics must serve a 60-year federal sentence for child porn crimes. (AP)
World Series MVP George Springer avoided salary arbitration with Houston by agreeing Monday to a two-year, $24 million contract. Springer, 28, will receive $12 million annually and will be eligible for arbitration again after the 2019 season. Ahead of a hearing that had been scheduled for today, Springer asked for a raise from $4 million to $10.5 million and was offered $8.5 million. His case was bolstered by Mookie Betts, who was awarded $10.5 million in arbitration after the Red Sox offered $7.5 million. Springer tied the World Series record with five home runs as Houston defeated the Dodgers. (AP)
Bartolo Colon, 44, will attend spring training with the Rangers with a chance to make their big league roster. The burly right-hander agreed to a minor league deal with Texas on Sunday. He would get $1.75 million on a one-year contract if he’s added to the Rangers’ 40-man roster. Colon was 7-14 with a 6.48 ERA in 28 starts for Atlanta and Minnesota last season. He was released by the Braves in July, then signed with the Twins and went 5-6 with a 5.18 ERA in 15 starts for them. Colon has 240 wins in 20 seasons with 10 teams, including the Expos. He’s posted 21 wins against Texas, the most by any pitcher. (AP)

A stroke’s aftermath
double up the next week.” For example, say you’re in a run training program in preparation for a race and you didn’t do your assigned 10 miles one week. That doesn’t mean you should do 20 miles the next week. Rest is also key in preventing overtraining symptoms. Rest includes good sleep (seven to nine hours) and not repeating the same activity too often. “You want give yourself 48 hours of rest between intense activities,” Jo says. To circle back around, fitness should be about health first and foremost, Park says. If there are negative consequences, you should ask yourself: “What are the health benefits of this?” Because, he says, there is an ideal fitness routine for you out there — one that gives you the mental and physical rewards you seek without causing mental and physical pain: “Wear and tear is not necessary. There is a sweet spot.”
Only 1 out of every 100 people who survive a stroke do all the things research says should be done to restore their cardiovascular health and prevent a recurrence, according to a report last month from the International Stroke Conference. The American Heart Association says those seven steps are: get active, eat better, lose weight, don’t smoke, manage blood pressure, control cholesterol and blood sugar levels. The report, based on data from nearly 68,000 stroke survivors, found that fewer survivors have high blood pressure now (26 percent, down from 45 percent in the ’80s) or high cholesterol (10 percent, down from 37 percent). But diabetes and obesity rates increased, reaching 39 and 56 percent, respectively. Stroke survivors who are eating poorly also increased from 14 percent to more than 50 percent today.

When to stop pushing Learn the warning signs of overtraining — a danger even if you’re not an elite athlete EXERCISE Everyone knows that exercise in general makes you happier, stronger and more energetic. But what if fitness did the very opposite? In other words, if exercise brought on depression, injuries and lack of motivation? It’s called overtraining syndrome, says Sabrena Jo, a senior exercise scientist for the American Council on Exercise. “The first sign of overtraining is when the performance of the exercise starts decreasing,” she says. “Additional symptoms can be things like sleep disturbances, lack of motivation and moodiness.” Don’t bag your recently kicked-off 2018 fitness routine just yet. Overtraining syndrome mostly happens to elite athletes, says Joe Park, an orthopedic surgeon with the University of Virginia Health System. But it can also strike dedicated amateur athletes. Park says we can all benefit from learning the warning signs of overtraining — such as pain.
“What I tell patients is to observe the trajectory of pain,” Park says. “Is it better today than it was last week?” Sometimes with overtraining injuries related to running, the pain subsides during the run as the soft tissue loosens up during movement. So instead of examining the pain only during the activity, watch for it after the activity is done, he says. If pain doesn’t subside in 10 to 14 days, something might be amiss and should be assessed by a doctor. Kendall Black, a Washington physical therapist, says another warning sign is when the pain subsides, but the area in question feels tight. “Take note if there is stiffness and a decrease in range of motion,” she says. The next level of warning signs is when injuries start accumulating, Park says. “The same person might have a hamstring tear, an Achilles tear and a stress fracture,” he says. “It might be time to ask if it’s really the right sport for you.”
The hormonal effects Sleep disturbances, moodiness and lack of motivation may all be due to hormonal changes that can occur with overtraining. But the area is not well understood, exercise scientist Sabrena Jo says: “Cortisol — the stress hormone — plays a role, but it is not clear how.” For women, missed periods can also be a sign of overtraining. “That’s associated with bone-density loss and should be addressed,” orthopedic surgeon Joe Park says. G.B.
One way to avoid symptoms of overtraining is to ramp up exercises gradually, the experts agree. “The rule of progression is to increase no more than 5 to 10 percent every few weeks, whether it’s distance traveled, weight load or intensity,” Jo says. If you fall behind on a training schedule by a week or more due to illness, there is no way to make that up, Black says. “You just have to skip it. You can’t just

DR. ANDREA BONIOR | BAGGAGE CHECK
From boyfriend to mystery man Q. My boyfriend changed “in a relationship” on Facebook to private, yet still claims we’re a couple. He is secretive about his phone, and says the other women he spends so much time chatting with on Facebook are just friends. This is after 17 months of dating and living together over a year. Before, he said he wanted to get married one day; now he says he never will! Am I wasting my time? CONCERNED That depends. Do you consider being with someone who has completely changed his tune on the nature of his commitment, and is quite possibly being unfaithful, a waste of your time? Seriously, it’s all about what you want, and what you’re willing to put up with. Are you hoping for marriage? Well, he’s told you it’s not happening. Do you want a relationship that has
trust? Well, he’s acting like a bad cliche of a cheater and giving you no reason to believe otherwise. No doubt you love him, but is this the kind of relationship you want? I’d vote that he’s giving you very little of what you need. I’d also wonder what you think you actually deserve within a relationship, because if your letter is any indication, you are selling yourself short.
I can’t stand anymore! Pat is nice but in a screw-loose way. Pat talks out loud and whispers to the almighty Lord. Pat has prophesied the end of the world three times. HAVE HAD IT What’s the problem? I always work better when someone snoops around, looking for the reasons why I’m headed to hell! Pat’s behavior negatively affects your work environment, so you’ve got to speak up. Raising your concerns with a supervisor need not involve any ill will, or the stigmatizing of someone who quite likely has some cognitive … shall we say, idiosyncrasies going on. Go to a trusted manager or HR and give the fact-based bottom line — no more personal than needed. You don’t have a quiet place to work because of Pat’s behavior, and it affects your ability to be productive. Have specific examples, not necessarily of Pat’s unusual mindset, but of the behaviors that make your work environment unworkable. Then see what solution they can come up with. The San Francisco Bay area artist, who uses gender-neutral pronouns, feels plagued by the precarious nature of Instagram. The platform has expanded their reach, but its guidelines leave them never knowing what might lead to a post’s removal, or their account suspended or deleted. Instagram’s guidelines recognize that nudes can be “artistic or creative in nature” but says they can still violate its policies. The grounds for removal are specific: “photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fullynude buttocks.” Images of female nipples can also violate the guidelines, but photos of postmastectomy scarring and breastfeeding are allowed. TELEVISION Viola Davis knows how to make an audience see into the heart of a character, and she hopes the same holds true for the critical issue examined by the documentary series “Two Sides”: the deaths of African-American men and women in confrontations with law enforcement. It takes more than a video clip to understand a violent encounter, says Davis, an executive producer and narrator of the four-part TV One program, which airs its finale 10 p.m. Monday. (Prior episodes stream online at tvone.tv and via the TV One app.) “Despite the fact that so many were caught on camera and so much [is] in the public consciousness, it caused a divisiveness,” Davis says. Among the cases examined in “Two Sides”: Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old fatally shot during a 2016 struggle with two Los Angeles police officers; John Crawford III, a 22-year-old shot in 2014 by officers while carrying an air rifle at a Walmart store in Ohio; and Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old who was found hanged in a Texas jail cell after being arrested

Jennifer Lawrence on Sunday hijacked the loudspeaker on a Delta flight to cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles before the Super Bowl. “Everybody, this is not the pilot speaking. This is Jennifer Lawrence,” she said, as seen in a video shared on Twitter. “It’s Feb. 4, Super Bowl Sunday, and we all know what that means. Can I please get a ‘fly eagles fly’?” Some joined in before a flight attendant approached the star, E! News reported. (EXPRESS)
As the Philadelphia Eagles took the stage for the Super Bowl’s postgame trophy presentation, Eagles fan Kevin Hart was seen on TV trying to join them, but was blocked by security. “When alcohol is in your system, you do dumb stuff,” Hart said later in an Instagram video. “Me trying to go on stage with the trophy [is] definitely in the top two stupidest things I’ve ever done but who cares? The Eagles won the Super Bowl.” Hart also dropped an accidental F-bomb live on the NFL Network. “He gotta go,” the host joked as Deion Sanders escorted Hart off camera. (THE WASHINGTON POST)
