A raccoon trapped in a vending machine at a Florida high school is now free. Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesman Andrew Gant says a deputy at Pine Ridge High School was told of the trapped raccoon Wednesday and called animal control for help. A vending machine operator was also contacted.

Police have arrested a Florida man accused of threatening his neighbors with nunchucks and bug spray before cutting his own head when he hit himself with the weapon. Daytona Beach police spokesman Messod Bendayan said Larry Adams complained about music coming from a car in the parking lot of their building. Police say Adams sprayed four neighbors with roach spray, swung his nunchucks in a threatening way and hit himself. (AP)

A Washington state trooper who pulled over to help a disabled car found something else instead: The driver had eight phones simultaneously playing Pokémon Go. The driver was stopped on the shoulder of Highway 518 in Burien on Tuesday. The agency tweeted a photo of a blue foam square with the phones in rectangular cutouts. Sgt. Kyle Smith didn’t issue a ticket as he didn’t see the car move while the driver was using the phones. (AP)

Traffic warning: Mopeds are here The newest addition to D.C.’s transit scene might not be the last

TRANSPORTATION First came e-bikes, then scooters. Now the District is adding mopeds to the mix of micromobility services available in the nation’s capital.

Revel, which operates an electric moped rental service in the New York area, is bringing them to the District this weekend. The company is the first to secure a permit to operate mopeds in the city as part of a four-month pilot program and will be allowed to deploy up to 400 vehicles.

Revel’s motor-driven cycles are the latest entrant into the city’s app-based transportation market, and they probably won’t be the last this year. D.C. transportation officials say they’re open to testing whatever happens to be the next big thing in transportation technology.

Rocket skates? Hoverboards?

Unicycles? Maybe.

For now, the District Department of Transportation is focused on luring two other modes to city streets this year: electric tricycles — trikes — and e-cargo

“We want to give residents and visitors as many options as possible, so we will continue to expand the program as thoughtfully as we can,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian, whose agency regulates the services.

The city is finalizing an adaptive bicycles or tricycles program, Marootian said, that would give people with special needs or

disabilities access to the shared transportation services.

Officials are looking at the experience of other cities where companies are renting tricycles designed not only with extra stability for users who may not be comfortable on two wheels but also with extra storage capacity for hauling things like groceries.

The mopeds follow the entry of motorized scooters and dockless bike-share systems within

DDOT has created a team whose job is to work with the service operators and facilitate the inclusion of the services in the overall transportation system.

In addition, DDOT is creating curbside parking for scooters and bikes at locations where their use is high, and plans to have designated parking at 15 locations by fall.

Steven Reichert, a personal fitness trainer in Washington who has been a vocal opponent of the devices, said he had hoped the city would have set more rules before allowing new personal mobility devices onto the streets.

“Scooters have already made a mess of our city,” said Reichert, who has been documenting scooter misbehavior. “Adding more vehicles like mopeds and trikes will only add to the chaos on our sidewalks and make it more unsafe for pedestrians.”

THE DISTRICT A Catholic priest was convicted Thursday of sexually abusing two girls at a D.C. church after an emotional trial in which prosecutors said he used his position of trust to victimize young parishioners.

Urbano Vazquez, 47, showed no emotion as the jury foreman read the guilty verdicts in D.C. Superior Court.

The jurors found that Vazquez groped a 13-year-old girl in 2015 and kissed and groped a 9-yearold girl in 2016. The incidents happened while he was serving as an assistant pastor at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Columbia Heights.

“He took vows to act in a Godlike manner, to act like Jesus.

But he did not act in a Godlike manner and forever changed the lives of these girls,” federal prosecutor Sharon Marcus-Kurn said in her closing argument as one juror nodded. “He wore priest’s clothes, but underneath was a devil to them, sexually assaulting them.”

Both victims took the witness stand during the nine-day trial in D.C. Superior Court. One told jurors she initially kept the incidents a secret from her mother because she feared “something worser would happen,” like

Vazquez was convicted of three charges of second-degree sexual abuse of a child and one count of misdemeanor sex abuse of a child. The jury also agreed with the prosecution that based on the ages of the victims and Vazquez’s role of leadership at the church, his penalty should be enhanced. Vazquez faces a maximum of 45 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 22.

Vazquez denied the allegations, and members of the church came to court to support him.

Other parishioners came to support the victims.

“This is a relief for the victims.

We are sad for the community.

But this is some justice. We now hope for healing moving on,” Alex Taliadoros, 27, a member of the church, said outside the courtroom after the verdict.

Vazquez faces another trial of misdemeanor sexual abuse involving a woman who was also a member of the parish in 2017.

Prosecutors have also said they identified another potential victim, but the statue of limitations expired in that case.

The cooling system has been broken since 2015. Most recently, Metro said the problem would be resolved by mid-August. Driver killed, 4-year-old girl injured in Loudoun County car crash

Md. recalls 8,000 Real ID driver’s licenses TRANSPORTATION The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has recalled the driver’s licenses of 8,000 residents because they failed to meet requirements to comply with the Real ID Act — a federal law designed to tighten security for state-issued identification.

If any of those drivers are pulled over by police for any reason, the officer could confiscate their driver’s license.

The MVA says those drivers can avoid having their licenses confiscated by presenting proof of age and identity, Social Security number and Maryland residency to an MVA branch.

So far, three of those drivers have had their licenses confiscated by law enforcement, Diaczok said. All three have submitted documents and have their licenses back, she said.

In late 2017, the Department of Homeland Security notified the state that all drivers with the new Real ID would need to show copies of the required documents to the MVA. To avoid a crush at MVA offices, the state created staggered deadlines. Another 780,000 Maryland drivers with the state-issued Real ID license — identified by a star in the upperright corner — also don’t have necessary documents on file.

Pedestrian dies after car fails to stop and hits him A pedestrian struck by a vehicle whose driver did not stop on North Capitol Street on Tuesday night died Wednesday of his injuries, according to D.C. police.

Jascha Wilson, 29, of Southeast D.C. had been hospitalized in critical condition. D.C. has recorded 16 traffic fatalities so far in 2019, compared with a total of 21 in 2018. Police have said Wilson was not in the crosswalk when he was hit. (TWP)

New nationwide report says 15th Street setup can lead to collisions

THE DISTRICT The 15th Street NW bike lane — D.C.’s oldest and most popular protected bike lane — had the “highest injury risk” among protected lanes studied by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety unveiled Thursday.

The lane’s southern section, between Massachusetts and Pennsylvania avenues, where the two-way bike lane travels along two-way vehicle traffic, stood out as particularly risky, according to the report, which looks at how well protected bike lanes are working in the U.S. The lane on 15th Street, among the city’s most celebrated bike routes, has numerous risk factors for collisions and falls.

Its main problem, according to the report, lies in its configuration: a two-way lane on a roadway that has two-way traffic that crosses numerous major intersections and driveways. So many variables increase the opportunities for collisions.

“It is challenging for drivers to turn across because they have to monitor for oncoming traffic for cars and bikes,” said Jessica Cicchino, IIHS’ vice president for research.

Cicchino said the study provides yet more evidence that bike infrastructure works but that some areas could be made safer.

The study found that nearly all incidents on street-level, two-way protected bike lanes occurred in D.C. And the 15th Street NW bike lane accounted for nearly half of crashes or falls on street-level, two-way lanes in the study.

lane, which opened about a decade ago, is the busiest bike facility in the city, carrying as many as 2,500 people daily. It is the only north-south protected bike lane in the District, connecting

Northwest to downtown.

Greg Billing, executive director of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, agrees the route can be improved. WABA wants to add clearer signage, place bumps at or near driveways and investing in more bike signals. Ideally, he said, the city would put the northbound and southbound lane on each side of the road.

The city plans to create a team of bike-lane enforcement officers with the power to issue tickets for vehicles parked in bike lanes.

And it issued a set of new rules clarifying that stopping, standing and parking in bike lanes, as well as loading and unloading passengers and other obstructions of bike lanes, are prohibited.

‘Gay’ penguins in Berlin adopt egg together

IMMIGRATION Federal immigration officials said they have probable cause that all five companies operating poultry plants raided by authorities in Mississippi last week violated immigration law by knowingly hiring undocumented immigrants, according to search warrant affidavits that cite videotaped statements of managers.

There were clear signs that the companies were hiring people who could not legally work in the country, the search warrants allege. Some workers wore ankle monitors as they awaited deportation hearings; gave Social Security numbers belonging to the deceased; or were hired twice by the same manager even though the worker used different names on each occasion.

Since 2002, federal officials have reported more than 350 encounters or arrests of undocumented people who said they worked at two of the plants, Koch Foods and Peco Foods.

The companies for years have employed a stream of Guatemalan and Mexican immigrants who are not authorized to work in the U.S., according to the search warrant affidavits, unsealed in federal court after Aug. 7 raids of seven plants operated by Koch

5 companies’ practices under scrutiny after ICE raids in Mississippi

In the affidavits, Homeland Security Investigations agent Anthony Todd Williams Jr. said there is probable cause to believe that the chicken plants in Mississippi intentionally hired undocumented workers who presented fraudulent documents.

Williams wrote that individuals or companies shown to have “actual knowledge” of violating the employment law — meaning they knowingly hired at least 10 people not authorized to work for a yearlong period — can be fined as much as $3,000 per undocumented worker and imprisoned for as much as six months.

Neither the companies nor any executives have been arrested or charged with violating immigration law, although the documents name numerous managers who apparently knew about the widespread practice, according to the affidavits recently unsealed in Mississippi federal court.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement carried out the raids at seven chicken-processing plants operated by the companies, arresting 680 workers, about half of whom have been released to await further hearings.

U.S. officials said the extraordinary intervention by the president was part of his strategy to sow divisions within the Democratic Party by shining a spotlight on its most liberal members.

MOSCOW A Russian pilot was hailed as a hero Thursday for safely landing his passenger jet in a cornfield after a collision with a flock of gulls seconds after takeoff crippled both engines. While dozens of people on the plane sought medical assistance, only one was hospitalized.

The quick thinking of the captain, 41-year old Damir Yusupov, drew comparisons to the 2009 “miracle on the Hudson,” when Capt. Chesley Sullenberger safely ditched his plane in New York’s Hudson River after a bird strike disabled its engines.

Russian television stations showed passengers standing in head-high corn next to the plane, hugging Yusupov and thanking him for saving their lives.

“It was quite a feat to keep the plane from stalling and quickly find a place to land,” Viktor Zabolotsky, a former test pilot, said in televised remarks.

The Ural Airlines A321 was carrying 226 passengers and a crew of seven as it took off Thursday from Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport en route to Simferopol in Crimea.

Russia’s Rosaviatsiya state aviation agency chief, Alexander Neradko, told reporters that the crew “made the only right decision” to immediately land the fully loaded plane with its wheels up after both of its engines malfunctioned.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross expressed amazement that the standoff, which began Wednesday when officers attempted to serve a drug warrant, ended with no one dead and no life-threatening injuries.

It “could have been far worse,”

The gunman came out of the home after police used tear gas.

He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then placed into custody.

As officers flooded the scene, the situation grew chaotic at times. Police took to Twitter to ask media helicopters to pull back at the beginning of the standoff, saying they feared the gunman might be able to see police positions in the footage. Some residents shouted and threw things at officers.

NEW YORK CITY An autopsy found that financier Jeffrey Epstein suffered multiple breaks in his neck bones, according to two people familiar with the findings, deepening the mystery about the circumstances of his death.

Among the bones broken in Epstein’s neck was the hyoid bone, which in men is near the Adam’s apple. Such breaks can occur in those who hang themselves, particularly if they are older, according to forensics experts. But they are more common in victims of homicide by strangulation, the experts said.

The details are the first findings to emerge from the autopsy of Epstein, a convicted sex offender and multimillionaire in federal custody on charges of sex trafficking. He died early Saturday morning after guards found him hanging in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

The office of New York City’s chief medical examiner, Barbara Sampson, completed an autopsy of Epstein’s body Sunday. But Sampson listed the cause of his death as pending.

Asked about the neck injuries, Sampson said no single factor in an autopsy can provide a conclusive answer about what happened.

Germany is heavily reliant on manufacturing cars and other industrial goods to power its economy. Most of the world — including the U.S. — is currently experiencing a manufacturing recession. So far, the German government has been reluctant to spend to stimulate growth.

On top of manufacturing woes, the United Kingdom has seen an investment slump, largely because of uncertainty over Brexit. If Britain leaves the European Union in October without a deal — referred to as a “hard Brexit” — the nation is widely expected to enter a recession.

Italy struggles from continuing political crises that make additional economic aid from the government difficult. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is facing a noconfidence vote in his country’s Senate later this month and may have to resign, and Italy’s debt is one of the highest in the world.

The southern U.S. neighbor has also been a target of Trump’s trade and immigration battles, which appear to be taking a greater toll than many expected. Mexico has also suffered declines in business investment and confidence as companies fear leftist President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will nationalize industries.

Brazil has struggled to sell goods overseas and at home. Some thought it would benefit as China sought to buy soybeans and other products somewhere other than the U.S., but slumping commodity prices have hurt. The government is giving out cash payments to workers in an effort to stimulate growth.

Argentina is in crisis. On Monday, Argentina’s stock market dropped nearly 50%, the second largest oneday crash any nation has experienced since 1950. Middle-class Argentines are fearful they won’t be able to afford everyday products as the value of the Argentine peso keeps dropping, especially against the U.S. dollar.

Singapore has blamed the U.S.China trade war for its problems, as its economy is heavily reliant on exports. Many economists watch Singapore and South Korea as strong indicators for what’s ahead for the global economy because these nations trade with so many others, especially China and the U.S.

Japan and South Korea are in the midst of a trade war of their own that is expected to drag down growth and make it harder for South Korea to sell electronics and cars abroad.

Electronics exports are down about 20% in recent months, and semiconductor exports are down more than 30%, according to ING.

Russia has struggled since 2014 as oil prices plummeted and other nations put sanctions on Russia because of its military actions in Ukraine. Russia has worked to shield its economy as much as possible from U.S. sanctions by limiting deals with the U.S., but that has meant greater reliance on China, which is now slowing.

ECONOMY Nine major economies around the world are in recession or on the verge of one, raising fears that a global economic slowdown could help tip the U.S. into an economic contraction as well.

T he sto ck m a rket d r op Wednesday began after bad news from two of the world’s largest economies. China reported the worst manufacturing output in 17 years, and Germany said that its economy actually shrank in the spring.

Many of the countries slowing down or in recession have a common problem: They are heavily dependent on selling goods overseas. And this is not a good time to have an exportdriven economy. China’s slump and President Trump’s trade war are both undercutting the global exchange of goods that had helped power the global economy for decades, and some of these countries are seeing sharp declines in exports.

In other nations, notably Argentina and Russia, long-standing problems at home are bubbling over at a moment when global investors are skittish and quick to bolt, which exacerbates trouble.

As the woes add up, there aren’t a lot of obvious rescue boats to help, which is why investors are fleeing to the usual havens: gold and government bonds.

Trump is correct when he says many other nations depend more on trade than the U.S. does (exports account for about 13% of the U.S. economy, while domestic consumer spending makes up about 70%). But Trump is about to test the limits of whether the U.S. can stand alone as troubled spots grow around the world.

Here’s a rundown of key economies with recession worries.

HEALTH U.S. health officials are making a new attempt at adding graphic images to cigarette packets to discourage Americans from lighting up. If successful, it would be the first change to U.S. cigarette warnings in 35 years.

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday proposed 13 new warnings that would appear on all cigarettes, including images of cancerous neck tumors, diseased lungs and feet with amputated toes. Other color illustrations would warn smokers that cigarettes can cause heart disease, impotence and diabetes. The labels would take up half of the front of cigarette packages.

The current smaller text warnings on the side of U.S. cigarette packs have not been updated since 1984.

The FDA’s previous attempt to change the labels was defeated in court in 2012 on free speech grounds. That decision was later upheld by a panel of judges.

FDA’s tobacco director Mitch Zeller said the new effort is supported by research documenting how the warnings will educate the public about lesser-known smoking harms, such as bladder cancer.

The nation’s largest tobacco company, Altria, which makes Marlboro, said it will “carefully review the proposed rule.”

Nearly 120 countries around the world have adopted the larger, graphic warning labels.

Eccentric Brown to test the patience of Gruden

NFL When Antonio Brown arrived at training camp in a hot-air balloon, Jon Gruden laughed and tried to cozy up to a new reality.

“I expect a lot more drama from No. 84,” the Raiders’ coach said last month of his newly acquired superstar wide receiver.

“I really do.”

How prescient. And unsurprising. And ominous.

As eccentric as Brown can be, Gruden couldn’t have predicted the types of drama he already has presented. Frostbitten feet?

And an existential crisis over a new helmet?

Still, when his feet heal, Brown, 31, figures to remain the ultra-productive playmaker who’s finished with no fewer than 101 receptions, 1,284 yards and eight touchdowns in the past six seasons.

Gruden, the old coach who traded the best of his new tricks during his disastrous NFL return last season, acquired Brown partly because his decisions had left the roster desperate for a player with superstar impact. Now he needs a fruitful relationship with the diva receiver to erase the notion that his coaching style is too antiquated for the NFL. That was the concern entering last season, after Gruden signed a 10-year, $100 million contract

Then, in the middle of the 2018 season, Gruden traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to Dallas for a first-round draft pick. People joked that Gruden made the Bears and Cowboys playoff teams while watching his own squad go 4-12.

It contributed to the perception that this version of Gruden cannot tolerate today’s stars.

Now Brown is here to provide the greatest test of the coach’s patience. Finding a way to manage Brown is essential to the relaunching of Gruden’s career.

Kyrgios quickly returns to old volatile conduct TENNIS Nick Kyrgios seemed to have set himself on a slightly healthier and more productive path this month at the Citi Open in Washington. Sure, he smashed rackets, blasted a ball out of the stadium in frustration and hurled invective at umpires (calling one a “potato with legs and arms”), but he also won the tournament, defeating two top-10 opponents along the way.

Afterward, he seemed to display a newfound serenity, a condition that has eluded the 24-year-old over the course of his tumultuous career.

“A lot of habits needed to change,” he added. “I just had a lot of unhealthy habits, and it was starting to show on the tennis court. It was too up and down. It wasn’t healthy.”

But Kyrgios’ newfound calm didn’t last long. He fell apart Wednesday night during a second-round loss to Karen Khachanov at the Cincinnati Masters. Kyrgios came unglued when chair umpire Fergus Murphy (the same one he likened to a potato) warned him about taking too much time between serves. Later, Kyrgios called Murphy “the worst f---ing referee ever” and smashed two rackets.

The versatile star makes a messy mom lovable in ‘Where’d You Go, Bernadette’ FILM REVIEW Spiky, passionate, fierce and broken, the titular heroine of Maria Semple’s hilarious and touching novel “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” is one of the great characters in recent literary fiction. And she’s perfect fodder for the talents of Cate Blanchett, who radiates both otherworldliness and edgy neurosis in Richard Linklater’s generously humane film adaptation.

When we meet Blanchett’s Bernadette Fox, she’s living in rainy Seattle with her Microsoft engineer husband, Elgin (Billy Crudup) and teenage daughter, Bee (newcomer Emma Nelson), banging around a decrepit, halfrehabbed former reform school, trying desperately to avoid the other moms at Bee’s school, dictating manic to-do lists to her virtual assistant in India and nurturing an obsessive hatred of her adopted hometown.

From the state of her environment — falling apart but filled with ingenious design elements involving books, pencils and a chandelier that looks as if it’s been made of dog bowls — it’s clear that Bernadette, a once-famous

“Where’d You Go, Bernadette” is at its best as a character study in female ambition and motherhood, at their most passionate and ambivalent. It’s when the plot becomes, well, plottier that “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” starts to wobble: Twists, turns and what-are-you-doing-here? contrivances that work on the page look forced and schematic on screen, notwithstanding some stunning location photography amid the serene waters and icescapes of Greenland.

If the family dynamics feel too neatly resolved by the end of “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” Blanchett’s nuanced portrayal of stymied creativity, exacting taste and sensibilities too bold and well-judged for an uncaring world manages to be funny and uncompromising in equal measure. Shia LaBeouf teams up with Zack Gottsagen in “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” a sweetly comic drama about a young man with Down syndrome who dreams of becoming a pro wrestler. But the film essentially lifts its story beats from “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” which contributes to an unfortunate sense of derivation.

‘Good Boys’ knows how to party The raunchy comedy brings little new to the table, but it’s got heart

‘Angry Birds 2’ flies in the face of expectations

FILM REVIEW Much has been made of how “Good Boys” — an R-rated comedy about a trio of sixth-grade nerds caught up in a misadventure involving drugs, sex toys, beer and slapstick mishaps — looks like a junior varsity version of “Superbad.” The comparison is fair, and fairly accurate. The comedy, produced by “Superbad” writer-producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, hits all the expected marks for raunch and vulgarity, with the bonus that it is actually also kind of sweet.

Mostly, that’s thanks to the three young actors at the center of the story: Jacob Tremblay as Max, Brady Noon as Thor and Keith L. Williams as Lucas, playing an inseparable posse of newly minted sixth-graders whose voices haven’t yet changed and who are still obsessed with Ascension, a card-deck-building game of fantasy. They’re all appealing performers, but Williams steals the show, playing a tall-for-his-age dweeb who, by his own admission, loves rules and is struggling with the justannounced divorce of his parents (Lil Rel Howery and Retta).

The boys are mostly social outcasts, though Max somehow manages to snag an invitation to a kissing party at the home of the school’s most effortlessly cool rugrat rebel, a little James Dean-in-training named Soren (Izaac Wang).

The boys (Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams and Brady Noon) meet a living, breathing high school girl (Molly Gordon).

Because Max’s dream girl (Millie Davis) will also be in attendance, and because Max knows nothing about kissing, the three boys undertake a crash course on the subject, borrowing a drone video camera to spy on what the boys presume to be kissing experts: a pair of (relatively) worldly high school girls (Molly Gordon and Midori Francis).

This leads to a highly improbable yet pretty amusing concatenation of exploits involving MDMA, alcohol, a sex doll and a bicycle accident. The plot is silly and episodic, but plot hardly matters here. “Good Boys” exists for no other reason than to give us permission to laugh at

The central struggle of “Good Boys” is between the popular crowd and the so-called “tryhards,” epitomized by Thor, who loves musical theater, and his overly earnest friends, each of

whom is at that age when he is beginning to find another obsession to replace Ascension (girls, in the case of Max, or, for Lucas, the school’s anti-bullying group, known as the Student Coalition Against Bullying, or SCAB).

Sincerity, passion and effort, you see, are lame. Irony and not giving a damn are cool.

Except that “Good Boys” itself is kind of a try-hard. Sure, it makes anti-bullying efforts seem like a bad thing (one demerit for that). But it also knows when to pull back from the precipice of raunch-forraunch’s-sake and look for something sweeter. MICHAEL O’SULLIVAN (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Kevin Hart will produce and star in the comedy film “Night Wolf,” STXfilms announced Thursday. The movie, written by “Detective Pikachu’s” Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, follows Hart’s character as he meets his future father-inlaw, who he discovers is secretly a superhero. “It is a big, broad comedy and the idea is great fun and perfectly matched with Kevin’s comedic talent,” STXfilms chairman Adam Fogelson said. FILM REVIEW There’s a new movie that teaches valuable lessons about teamwork and forgiveness.

It boasts a plot and action premised on the foundational principles of mathematics. And it encourages girls to study science.

Also: It’s based on a smartphone gaming app.

“The Angry Birds Movie 2” is not great cinema. But the animated sequel — inspired by the popular Angry Birds games — goes above and beyond what is to be expected from such things.

The story takes us back to Bird Island, an avian paradise inhabited by flightless birds who, as in the game, travel via a slingshot. Our hero is hottempered Red (voice of Jason Sudeikis) — no longer an outcast, having saved his home from an invasion of green pigs in the first film. This time, the pigs’ leader, Leonard (Bill Hader), wants a truce. Pig Island, you see, is under attack from nearby Eagle Island and Zeta (Leslie Jones), a purple bird of prey. And she’s coming for Bird Island next.

In some ways, “The Angry Birds Movie 2” is standard kiddie fare. Yet, from its distinctive character design to its ambitious world-building, what might otherwise have been only a mildly diverting product tie-in is proof that video-game movies — just like video games — require a certain level of invention to keep players (and audiences) interested.
