March 2014 Dear Resident, I will be standing as an Independent Candidate in the Local Elections on Friday, 23rd May 2014 in the Rathgar/ Rathmines ward, covering the areas of Dartry, Harolds Cross, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Rathgar and Terenure. After 16 years as a Fine Gael councillor on Dublin City Council, Fine Gael Head Office did not select me to run on its party ticket. This was an intense disappointment to me and occurred despite the intervention of all my Fine Gael colleagues on the City Council, who wrote asking the Fine Gael General Secretary that I be allowed to stand in the local elections. The decision to stand as an independent candidate has been difficult and taken with a heavy heart I love Dublin and my role as a city councillor. With my accountancy background, I hope to gain support so that I can serve you and the city in dealing with how the Council manages the rates and charges it collects from you. I am the Fine Gael representative to the Budget Consultative Group of City Council, a role whose importance will come into sharper focus as the Council collects millions of Euro through the Local Property Tax. My commitment to fiscal responsibility and my dedication to my community have allowed me the opportunity to serve on two hospital boards: Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin and St. James Hospital. This has allowed me contribute to discussions on the New Children’s Hospital which is a vital project. Due to my long standing experience on Dublin City Council I have a deep understanding of how the Council operates and from this I am able to make effective representations on behalf of constituents in areas such as housing, traffic, planning and environmental improvements. I have the energy and commitment to continue to serve your best interest and ask for your No. 1 vote in the coming Local Elections on 23rd May. I am confident my perspective as an Independent councillor will be politically relevant in these changing times. I will continue to work with like-minded people as I have always done for the benefit of the city. I look forward to meeting you before Election Day on 23rd May and hopefully gain your No.1 vote. Yours Sincerely
