Events for Family Members Assisted Decision Making The proposed Assisted Decision Making Bill and the likely effects. A look at the current Ward of Court system and the move towards assisted decision making. Consent & Medical Decisions The law around capacity, consent and medical decisions including relevant issues such as Ward of Court, Assisted Decision Making and Medical Ethics. Consent & Sexual Relationships The law on sexual relationships and people with intellectual disability. Consent, the effect of the criminal law in practice and marriage and people with intellectual disabilities will be covered. Disability Policy and Law An introduction to disability policy and law in Ireland focussing on the National Disability Strategy. Making a Will – What you should know Making a will and considerations such as welfare payments, guardianship and trust funds. The focus of the presentation is on answering parent’s questions on how best to prepare for the future. Media Training How to advocate for yourself or family member on policy and legislation in print media or on broadcast media. Setting up a Parent Support Group Setting up and operating a parent support group, including the structure, use of social media and lobbying for change. Inclusion Ireland Workshops & Seminars March – June 2014
The following training is also available – Pathways to Possibilities, 6 day training course delivered by parents for parents and professionals on planning for the future HIQA Standards, training delivered by service users for service users and professionals on the HIQA standards and inspection process. Workshops will take place in March & April in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Louth, Mayo and Sligo Communications and Supporting skills, training for parents and professionals on improving communication, self care and support skills (multiple days) There is a reduced fee for members and members have priority booking. Individual membership is €40 per year and group membership begins at €150. Groups Training requests for groups will be accommodated where possible.
