Garda vetting is a recurring problem with the providers. It is taking a period of approximately 4 months for an individual to be vetted and in some cases it can take longer. Garda vetting is not transferable and needs to be re-applied for each time and individual moves to a different job or area. C/Superintendent Phillips explained that there was one Garda Vetting office for the whole country and with every sports club coach, teacher, youth worker having to go through the process. The Chief Superintendents agreed to bring back the concerns to the Commissioner.
Cllr. McAuliffe
suggested that the Councillors progress the matter by agreeing a motion at the
January North West Area Committee and further on to City Council. He suggested that the youth service providers write to the Joint Policing Committee formalising their concerns.
D. Hurley of BRYR informed the members of Easy Street Coultry which is 'A proposal for youth work with young people in Coultry area'. The project is due to commence shortly. Information on the project to be circulated to the members.
Mary Ann Harris was pleased that the youth service providers are working in the parks and asked that if anyone wanted to contact her with new initiatives she would assist them in any way she could. Mary Ann Harris' contact details to be circulated to the youth service providers. 3.
