PIZZA THE ACTION The regeneration of Kettering’s Market Place has been given a major boost with the announcement Italian restaurant chain Prezzo will open its doors there in the autumn.

Delighted town leaders say the news reinforces their message that Kettering is “open for business”.

Work started on the restaurant, which is reported to represent a £500,000 investment by the national chain, this week.

The major investment is being seen as a vote in confidence in the future of the town centre.

It will also create 20 new jobs.

Council leader Russell Roberts believes there is an exciting future ahead for the Market Place. He said: “We have demonstrated a huge amount of faith in our town, by forging ahead with plans to regenerate the Market Place in the current climate.

“However, we have seen

strong and steady interest in Kettering, despite the dire economic climate generally. Prezzo’s interest in our town helps to reinforce our view that Kettering is a place worth investing in.”

The council’s Portfolio holder for Regeneration Derek Zanger added: “Their arrival will give other investors, and retailers, the confidence boost that they need to invest in Kettering and, once again, show that Kettering is open for business.”

Prezzo chief executive Jonathan Kaye said: “We are looking forward to opening our new restaurant in Kettering. I am confident that it will prove popular with people of all ages.

“The restaurant will serve the

highest quality food in comfortable and stylish surroundings and I am certain that it will be a good addition to the social scene in Kettering.”

Prezzo’s investment has also been welcomed by Mark Robinson of Ellandi – which owns the Newland Centre.

He said: “We’re working hard to raise the offering and public profile of the Newland Centre and seeing a national restaurant chain open on the Market Place helps cement our investment.

“A stronger Market Place offering, along with an improved Newland Centre, helps nicely bracket the High Street ahead of any further improvements there.”

A report advising the council’s One Corby Policy Committee confirms the HCA is now in a position to enter the development agreements and is asking the local authority to do the same. The report will be discussed by councillors next Tuesday.

The former Willows Theatre and Tresham College site has now been cleared ready for regeneration. It is 20 per cent owned by the council and 80 per cent by the HCA. Once the agreement with the preferred bidder, Mulberry Developments, is sealed, it paves the way for the first phase of the Parkland Gateway project to begin.

This phase will include a sixscreen cinema and food outlets which the council says could be completed as early as the end of next year.

Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “It is fantastic news that this agreement is ready to be signed up to by both parties, which could result in work beginning on site as soon as the turn of the year.

“The residents of Corby have been eagerly awaiting their very own cinema and so we are very pleased that things are now moving forward.”

Food firm sold in multi-million pound deal > COUNTY A CORBY food manufacturer which has a 100-strong workforce has been sold in a multi-million pound deal.

Phoenix Goods, which makes a range of powdered drinks and food from hot chocolate to gravy powder, has been bought by North Yorkshire-based Speciality Powders Holdings (SPHL).

SPHL managing director and majority shareholder, Mike Kirby, said: “This acquisition is part of our strategic growth plan and Phoenix Foods has a reputation for producing quality and innovative products that very much complement our own offering.”

Phoenix, which has a £12million annual turnover, was sold by private equity investor Endless in the all-cash transaction.

He said: “It’s closing the wrong prison at the wrong time for the wrong reasons.” And he added: “I shall be doing everything I can to get them to reverse this decision.”

Wellingborough councillors have also spoken of their concern over the impact the prison closure will have on the local economy and jobs in the town.

Mr Bone has also invited Mr Clarke to visit the jail and he has called for the closure to be delayed until MPs have had a chance to discuss the decision.

Shock result in drugs-screening blitz > COUNTY TRACES of drugs were found on 16 out of 60 people tested at a pub and a nightclub in Corby as part of a major police clampdown.

A drugs screening device was used as a condition of entry to the venues. Two men were also caught with Class B drugs on them.

One received an £80 penalty notice and the other was bailed to appear at Corby police station at a future date.

Traces of Class A drugs were also found in the ladies’ toilets on both premises.

Plain clothes officers also visited six licenced premises in the town and carried out various checks as part of the operation.

Bar staff in one of the premises were issued with an £80 penalty notice for supplying alcohol to a person who was drunk.

UNDER WAY: Work has begun on the restoration of the Castle Fields bandstand.

> COUNTY THE sound of music is set to return to Wellingborough’s Castle Fields Park once the £75,000 regeneration of its 99-year-old bandstand is completed later this year.

It’s hoped the restoration will be completed by the autumn and the bandstand will then be brought back into use for community events and performances.

A steering group, including representatives from the Victoria Centre and Wellingborough Museum, has been set up to work with the council on its future.

The bandstand has been closed and shuttered since 2008. Although not a

listed building, it is an important heritage feature and local schools, community groups and historical societies have been campaigning for its restoration.

Paul Bell, leader of Wellingborough Council, said: “The renovation work will bring the bandstand back to its former glory.

“We are hoping to see concerts, events and drama performances taking place and we have local champions helping us make sure it is used and looked after.

“By getting the community involved in the project so that the benefits are felt by everyone, we hope the chances of vandalism and antisocial behaviour occurring again will be significantly reduced.”

Morris men join the festive fun > COUNTY ORGANISERS of this months’ Gretton Music Festival have signed up their latest act to entertain the expected crowds to the big summer event.

Rockingham Road is green for go Top national award for much-loved park > ROCKINGHAM ROAD KETTERING’S Rockingham Road Pleasure Park has won a prestigious Green Flag Award for the third year running.

The Sports Personality of the Year award (Arthur Nicholson Trophy) is the only award to be decided by a public vote.

Last year’s winner was Megan Twigg of Kettering Premier Judo Club. Megan, 14, is one of the best young female judoka of her generation: a national champion and gold medal winner at the British School Championships.

The Kettering winners will automatically be nominated in the Northamptonshire Sports Awards 2012, to be held later in the year.

The new building is expected to be open to the public and local clubs and organisations by April next year.

The centre, which will be run by a community management committee, will include a hall with storage areas, a secure office, toilet facilities, a kitchen and a communal area which will lead out onto a patio.

It will be a meeting place for local clubs and will be available to hold dance classes, music nights, community meetings and children’s parties.

The Sound Barrier Star Awards, run by Specsavers hearing centres in association with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, recognises the accomplishments or courage of individuals with hearing loss or who are deaf.

Ten regional finalists have now been chosen from all en-

tries received throughout the country and five will be be selected to go forward to the grand final in London to compete for the title of Sound Barrier Star of 2012 on August 21.

Sandra, who began experiencing hearing loss in her early 20s, was unable to have an operation because of the risks involved. However, she didn’t let this affect her everyday life.

She volunteers for the Angel Bear organisation, which distributes hand-knitted teddies to children in crisis, including those suffering with hearing loss.

Fashioning a bright future > COUNTY THE new owner of Corby’s Aquascutum clothing factory has spoken of his commitment to develop a strong manufacturing operation in the town.

Roger Gawn, chairman of Swaine Adeney Brigg, told the Extra that in future many of its luxury cloths and goods will be made in Corby.

His firm has reopened the former Aquascutum factory, which closed with the loss of 115 jobs.

A workforce of around 25 former Aquascutum staff have been recruited and started back at the factory this week.

They will be concentrating on finishing trench coats which remain in the factory for Chinese firm YGM Trading - which

Mr Gawn told the Extra he hoped that there would be further work from YGM for his new Corby operation.

IPCC review Leanne Mape’s claims after appeal from her Barrister AN APPEAL has been lodged with the Independent Police Complaints Commission that the case of Leanne Mape, who claims she was sexually abused by a number of Asian and white men as a young girl, not be investigated.

The appeal was mounted after the Standards Department of Northamptonshire Police initially rejected that the circumstances surrounding police investigations over the last 15 years be looked into, on grounds that the complaint was out of time and applied to the IPCC for dispensation.

Following the police request for dispensation not to take the matter further, Leanne’s representatives have appealed to the IPCC on the grounds that she was a minor at the alleged initial failings of the police and did not have constructive knowledge of her causes for complaint until many years later.

Leanne, now 27 and who lives in Corby, alleges that between the ages of 11 and 15 she was the victim of systematic sexual abuse. Despite a complaint being made when Leanne was15 by her mother and subsequently being interviewed on video by police and medically examined, she believes she has been let down by the police and social services.

A medical report at the time by a doctor at Kettering General Hospital onfirms “a history of systematic sexual abuse by a number of individuals over two to three years.”

She believes that officers failed to investigate her case fully over a number of years and this has deprived her of justice.

A case worker at the IPCC will now look at the case file and then make a decision.

Last night a police spokesperson said: “Northamptonshire Police can confirm that a complaint was received in June by the IPCC. The complaint is currently with the IPCC and, as such, it would be inappropriate to comment any further on the circumstances surrounding the case.”

A spokesman for the IPCC told the Extra: “Northamptonshire Police has applied to the IPCC for dispensation on the grounds that the complaint is out of time.

We are presently considering that request to dispense with the complaint and we have been in contact with the complaint’s solicitor.”

LAKELANDS HOSPICE in Corby, has become the first hospice to receive a national award, the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Accreditation Quality Hallmark Award for the quality of its end of life care.

Staff at Lakelands undertook the GSF Care Home training and adapted it for the needs of a hospice, in a pioneering development which the GSF Centre hopes will be help many other hospices, in particular those with outreach community services. They were presented with their awards at a special ceremony in Worcester. Assessors were so impressed with the standard of care demonstrated they awarded Lakelands Beacon status – the highest award.

Cathy Langtree, nurse manager at Lakelands, said: “This training programme has been very time consuming and we have had to work hard to adapt it to a hospice setting, but it has been incredibly rewarding.

“We have always prided ourselves on the quality of our care, but GSF has

helped us bring more structure to what we do and we now know we have achieved something for all our patients. It has also helped us feel more comfortable about talking freely about death and dying with our patients and enabled us to develop closer working ties with district nurses and GPs.” Following its success, Lakelands is now working with the National GSF Centre on a new programme specifically for hospices- the GSF Hospice Care Programme, to be launched at the next GSF Conference Nov 28th in London.

GSF is widely used by primary care teams by more than 2000 care homes, 32 hospitals, 29 community hospitals and many domiciliary care agencies across the UK to improve care for people nearing the end of life. GSF helps to increase the number of people approaching the end of their lives to receive the care they want where they want it, protects them from inappropriate hospital admissions and increases their chances of dying in their

Take the case of Paul Chambers, the 28 year old trainee account from Corby, who was convicted of sending a “malicious communication” in 2010 by magistrates in Doncaster.

Annoyed that snow had closed Robin Hood Airport and due to fly to Northern Ireland to see his girlfriend he tweeted to his 600 followers that if wasn’t sorted in a week he would blow the airport up. The tweet contained a number of swear words and was a “silly joke.”

However, an off duty security guard at the airport spotted the e-mail a week later, informed the police resulting in Chambers being fined £385 with £600 costs. He also lost his job.

A couple of weeks ago—almost three years after the tweet---Chambers’ conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal. The Lord Chief Justice, sitting with two eminent colleagues, said: “If a person, or persons, should

receive or read it (the message) or may reasonably be expected to receive, or read it, would brush it aside as a silly joke, or joke in bad taste, or empty bombastic or ridiculous panning, then it would be a contradiction in terms to describe it as a message of a menacing character.”

Lord Judge went on to say: “The more one reflected upon it the clearer it became that the message did not represent a terrorist threat, or any form of threat, but was a ‘conversation piece’ for Mr Chambers’ followers.”

However, rude, misguided and in bad taste this and Paul Chambers’ messages may be regarded should the police be raiding a house in the early hours of the morning or the CPS spending nearly £20,000 mounting a prosecution and fighting the following appeals?

Time difference permitting, I have been catching the Olympics here in Sydney and feel the need to have a whinge. To be honest, I have been rather shocked at the way the media, and a few of the sports personalities themselves, react to not winning that illusive gold medal. Sadly, several members of the Australian team really beat themselves up for coming second and stating that they feel they have let both themselves (and their countries) down.

Good grief, what does it take these days to be proud of our achievements, regardless of the outcome? Have we become a society where only perfection is good enough? Why do we find it so hard to actually pat ourselves on the back and say well done, whether it for qualifying for the Olympic or managing to get the kids off to school on time?

Remember that old adage ‘Self Praise is No Praise?’ Well it’s time to dump that as far as I am I am concerned!

As I am away travelling in the next few weeks, I am going to treat you all to a three part column on learning to be nice to ourselves. At the end of each column I am going to set you some simple action steps to

I am sure you would never speak to other people the way that you speak to yourself?

Most of us don’t even realise when we beat ourselves up with a big stick, putting ourselves down, cringing when we look in the mirror or telling ourselves that there is something wrong with us. We often spend far too much time comparing ourselves to other people thinking we are ‘ Not good enough’ The sad thing is that many of us are so used to treating ourselves this way that we don't know any different. It is really just a bad habit.

The fact is, we rarely praise ourselves for our achievements or speak lovingly to ourselves on a daily basis.

Get honest with yourself - Do you treat your friends better than you treat yourself?

When is the last time you spoke encouraging to yourself or soothed yourself when you were upset or sad? When did you last give yourself a pat on the back or told yourself what a blooming fabulous person you really are?

Learning to treat yourself with love and respect is the highest gift you can give yourself. Surely you deserve your own love?

Ok, here are few of my favorite action steps for learning to be your own best friend. You don’t have to do them all, just pick one and commit to doing it for at least 30 days. In my next column I will be sharing more hints and tips for you to work on. No excuses! As a Life

Action Steps • Every morning, commit to treating yourself with patience and kindness. If you can just say a few nice encouraging things to yourself every day then this will start to build up that self-esteem muscle.

• Each evening, write down ten nice things about yourself. Yes 10. No excuses, You can do it and you are worth it.

• Praise yourself every time you look in the mirror. Even a ‘Well done’ for a good day at work is sufficient!

• Treat yourself like you would a five year old child. Give yourself compassion and encouragement. Feeling scared about something? Top Self Tanning Tips

It's a fact that we all feel better with a tan, whether it's natural or fake.

Self tanning products have improved so much over the last few years, that applied correctly, they're virtually undetectable. I've tried lots of different products and also had lots of tanning disasters too, which has enabled me to put

together a handy checklist of do's and don'ts when it comes to self tanning. Preparation and preservation are the key to a great long lasting tan.

Here's a list of tip tips and what's likely to happen if you don't follow them!

Wax or shave the night before you plan to tan Exfoliate thoroughly the night before tanning Start applying your tan to your face first, then move down to the neck, chest back and torso, leaving the arms and legs until last

If you apply tan to freshly waxed/shaved areas, the tan will seep into the hair follicles and you may get tiny brown dots all over! Waxing / shaving after you've applied tan will only remove it and make it go patchy.

Applying fake tan to skin with dry flaky areas will result in the tan clinging to these areas and making it turn out patchy and uneven

Start by applying tan to top of one arm making sure to rub it in, use what's left to apply to the backs of the arms and make sure you don't forget the backs of the forearms.

Repeat on the other arm Next apply to the middle of the thighs and the backs of the thighs, avoid the knees and ankles at this time. Apply to the lower legs. Then using what's left on your hands wipe lightly over the knees and ankles and tops of feet Finally but most importantly – wash your hands. If you've been using gloves you must do this next step too. Apply a tiny dot to the backs of your hands and rub the back of your hands together (don't use your palms!) This finishes the perfect application.

Ok so you've done everything but you still have some undesirable irable results. Here are some troubleshooting tips to fix that pesky problem Patchy / Uneven Tan – apply a good body scrub, rinse and apply more self tan mixed with a body lotion or balm.

Orange Palms – use a sugar scrub to gently exfoliate the hands. Wet hands and massage in until the sugar dissolves.

Tell tale white patches – apply the tan again to these areas only Dark ankles and knees – apply body scrub gently and dry in a circular motion with a towel.

To prolong your tan, use products designed to reduce the skin's natural shedding tendency. Wash with a neutral ph showergel, don't use a shower puff, and pat skin dry rather than rub. Apply a good body lotion daily.

By leaving the arms and legs until last, you can make sure you apply the tan properly as these two areas are the hardest to get right Missing the backs of the arms is a classic self tan error, that shows up in white streaks and tan lines.

Knees, ankles and feet grab the tan colour very easily, so by only using what's left on your hands, you avoid dark brown obvious patches on these areas.

Forgetting to wash your hands is another classic self tan mistake and will result in bright orange palms! Also forgetting to apply more tan to the backs of the hands results in a 'white glove' effect, where the tan stops at the wrists

Kettering has a ranter!

Dear..EXTRA Ref Tony Whitwell,issue 25/7, we certainly need to 'rant' the local Tories out of office for 100 years too, as what actually improves other than the Market Square environment, in 15 years too ??

Whether this means Labour's return or perhaps a combination of new parties like English Democrats / UKIP, well the voters must decide.

The 'final straw' is surely this 'infallible belief' in electric train wires through here, unacceptable if for only 2 handicaps to life a) leaukaemia risk to children of lineside dwellers, the incidence said to be 2--3 times higher than people nowhere near high voltage wires b) swans/geese fly into them and break necks on impact; other reasons for abandoning this 'modern fad' number at least 12, some of which I cannot remember now, from a list once compiled. One new one is seemingly unthought generating capacity is not being added to for more trains, and reliance on wind power means that any journey could be delayed from 1 hour to 2-3 days in theory !! Others like high capital cost of set up and renewal have not been considered in relation to the real railways needs of recovering useful but lost 1950/60s/70s routes, eg for £500m the Matlock-Millers Dale / Coalville and Northampton--Wellingborough lines could be rebuilt ??

Free capital is not the best interest either, nor realistic in nartional debt terms, it further 'lame ducks' the industry, and creates ever higher fares, so Kettering Council and our 'fading MP' Mr Hollobone need to take stock, especially in terms of ruining grade 2 listed Kettering/Wellingborough Station canopy roofs.

The better £9-2b, borrowed at 0% loan, could pay for independent traction research (ideal is gas turbine, living in faith of cheaper hydro-gas production future from science advance),

straightening out curves here and there (not Kettering), re-opening up to 2,500 route miles (or beginning the process for 30--40 years agenda), reducing fares by 50--60% to win back lost custom, and actually removing the 'accursed 1955' re-equipment systems which cost so much 1960s, that there was no money left for rural lines upgrade.

Try restoring Kettering 15b depot too, housing 'new build' locomotives only, plenty to come yet -- the staff camaraderie/team spirit there pre 1955 plan effects is said to have been great -so much soul lost by 1955 'thinking', we could write a book on it ??

That's just one rant !! In NE Northants as a whole, there are so many, a good government would recruit 'moaners' to write the lot, and make it No 1 Region for the influence of recovery;?? One relates to the primitive River Nen Navigation and Northampton Canal which have claimed 2 young lives recently -- the Tories current mean planning for Inland Waterways is such a big rant needed, but regrettably a minority interest rarely attracts attention.

Yours sincerely Timo J L Collier Kettering Dear..EXTRA It is clear neither Adam Simmonds, the Conservative candidate nor Lee Barron, the Labour candidate, have the qualifications or experience necessary to be successful in the role of this county’s first Police and Crime Commissioner.

Neither have any police experience at all nor any relevant management experience within similar major organisations. Neither are therefore likely to be the right person to bring effective management and budgetary controls to any large complex organisation much less our county police service. Sadly, neither of the two

independent candidates which have so far declared themselves, are any better qualified for this important position.

However, voters need not be depressed at the prospect of a lack of choice of suitably qualified candidates. The UK Independence Party will soon be in a position to confirm its support for a candidate who is both Independent and very well qualified for the post.

The individual concerned, a long time resident of Northamptonshire and a senior local member of our party, will be self financed and not dependent on any outside financial assistance. His qualifications are beyond reproach as he has many years experience in senior management positions within major UK companies. In addition, he has local police experience which followed his RAF Commission, a UK Army Commission and service with UK Airborne Special forces.

We are satisfied that voters will agree with us in that his qualifications and experience make him clearly the best qualified candidate for the post. We will shortly be issuing a statement giving his details and supporting his candidacy.

We went to KOS last week and found that a lot of car hire companies were offering a full tank of petrol which you pay for in advance and you just return the car empty at the end of the hire period.

Now this is a scam, because the island was so small that you would have to do a lot of travelling to empty the tank, and if you return the car with half a tank left you don’t get a refund.

My advice is to go for the companies

Gerard Nesbitt Corby Dear..EXTRA I received a letter from the Principal Cultural Officer for the Corby Borough Council informing me that I had been refused a grant award to host my BERT JANSCH EXHIBITION here in Corby on the grounds it " did not have an adequate Strategic fit with One Corby Priorities of Community Regeneration". I am dissapointed but definately not surprised as my profile is definately not "Arty Farty" tea and biscuits. I was asking for fianacial assistance to host a "Homage in vinyl" to the late Bert Jansch of the PENTANGLE who died last year of Cancer, his wife (Loren) died a couple of weeks later also of Cancer. Having lived my life "Off the page" in Corby ,I do understand that had I known the right people and attended the right meetings I might have done better? However I have submitted a video application to the OPUS ENERGY GIFT competition, you can vote for me by going onto youtube and click on BERT JANSCH EXHIBITION to support me. I have already received a staggering 700 plus votes which clearly shows the support for such an exhibition.

Its not sour grapes on my part, I was warned before entering the CBC application by others who are involved in the arts in the town, that the track record for success and support in Corby is abysmal. If it involves a Kilt, a pub, or a reference to the good old days slowly choking to death in "THE WORKS" its a shoe in.

Its time Corby accepted, this is a modern town, with modern attitudes, I am sure my exhibition will succeed, its only a matter of time. A few hundred pounds won't stop progress.And if you are wondering if Corby really wants a Bert Jansch exhibition, how will you ever know if you dont try? Maybe you would rather spend the money on the Cube?Money is tight, but I wonder if Poets and Art galleries are just a bit too dangerous to support in Corby?

Decisions: “Do I go for the butterfly in 2030?

I am just loving the Olympics, I don’t normally follow too closely, but this year I can be found sniffing with the best of them at the hard efforts of those athletes. Can you imagine how it feels?

All those years training, so easy to say, but the reality is so much more. Putting in long days, endless hours of training, often alone. The sacrifices these people make to their social lives and their family, Some putting a family on hold until their personal goal is reached. On top of that the discipline, only eating the right things, training the right way, and holding vices in moderation, if at all. These athletes have trained for years to get to

the Games, and I am sure there are many more that we never see make it to the top class events, but slog endlessly to try and get there.

One could draw a parallel with motherhood? All those endless, endless hours of lost sleep, alone pacing the halls.

Hours and hours invested in love, education, discipline, careful food control and health monitoring. Parents sacrifice their social life, personal goals, sometimes friends, holidays, careers, vices and money too. We have a goal in mind, a happy healthy child and an adult who can achieve the best they can. We never know if we will achieve our aim for

maybe 20 years, but boy do we put in the hours. When does a parents Gold come, when school finishes, when the offspring are secure at work, on their wedding day or the arrival of their babies?

I’m not sure there is a day, but little showers of gold dust on many special moments.

So to all of those winning and representing Team GB, well done, we are all proud and thank you. To all you parents, the golds in the post! Keep up the good work.

The Rugby team was filled with Warwickshire Middleton Cup players and a couple of former Internationals.

But the Kettering Band BC team of Mark Turner, Rob Vowles, Connor Cinato, Martin Cinato, Steve Mason, Steve Dockerill, Dave Keller and Andy Britten triumphed.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds slip to defeat

> COUNTY AFC Rushden & Diamonds’ preparations for their inaugural season of senior football took a 3-1 sized denting at the hands of a Luton Town XI. Hatters’ striker Dan Walker scored all three goals in what was a first Diamonds loss of their pre-season programme. Manager Mark

Deven Ellwood’s looping header gave Diamonds some hope at 2-1, his and Alfie Taylor’s strong performances had an equaliser looking likely, but it was to no avail as the Conference Premier side would run out victorious.

Beck continues experiments > FOOTBALL KETTERING Town manager John Beck continued to experiment with his side this weekend as the Blue Square Premier side were beaten 5-3 by Grantham Town.

New signings Ryan Hervel and Omar Bickles would debut in a Poppies side that finished the match

with an entirely different XI than that which started it for the second game in a row.

Kettering’s Sam Azis and Jamie Griffiths would put Beck’s side ahead and concede their first goal of preseason in a first half that finished 2-1.

Inevitably, as 11 entirely different Kettering players took to the field at half-time, the momentum of the game changed and it would be the

team two steps down the football pyramid that would prevail.

Despite an early showing in the second half, Nathan Mukuna would start what would become an astonishing turnaround as he sliced Higginson down in the box. Paul Grimes would convert the spot-kick to level.

Grantham kept the dangerous Sean Bennett-Johnson away from the ball and profited from the results.

Grimes doubled his personal tally for the third and Sam Puricoe would add a spectacular 25 yard drive of a fourth goal in the 77th minute.

Four minutes later, Tony Battersby stole a fifth, slotting past Kettering keeper Laurie Walker. Bennett-Johnson’s well-earned final minute consolation wrapped up the day’s scoring.

There were positive signs for John Beck throughout as his Poppies side had a couple of shots cleared off the line and conceded sometimes through individual errors. Following a strong 3-0 win against a developmental Stoke City side and a 5-0 demolition of Cogenhoe, fans can still have hope of a strong start to the 2012/13 season.
