from the publisher As I ponder in silence, I think about how strong we are as women. How we band together in times of need and laugh together in times of joy. Life is anything but perfect, but with the trust, respect and wisdom that lie in the hearts of authentic women, we always stand in integrity. As natural leaders, we lead from the core of our inner strength and follow the inner principles of our being. We believe in ourselves and our ability to manifest our lives in a way that contributes to the beautiful world that we create for ourselves. As Pioneers, we learn to trust that whatever happens is part of the process that leads us to our success. We instinctively follow our characteristics of intuition, creativity, spirituality, love, and compassion. Personal growth and manifestation are always possible. Looking at the world through the eyes of a cup half full helps to ensure these possibilities. In the promise of the words below, I hope to encourage you to continue to live a full and abundance life.

Make A Promise to Yourself To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.” Diane Mariechil

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but great deeds. To live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you. —Christian D. Larson

Oracle, Author, Visionary. Up Close & Personal With

Colette Baron-Reid by Maria Savoy

R

ecently I had the pleasure of talking with an amazing woman that I have long admired and adore. As we spoke, it didn’t take long to realize that this spirited, sassy redhead was everything I had imagined her to be, genuine, kind, talented and humble. Within minutes, I felt as though I had known her forever. Colette Baron-Reid, an internationally acclaimed intuition expert and visionary, a best-selling inspirational author published in 27 languages, the star of the national hit Canadian TV show “Messages From Spirit,” and oh, did I mention her newly published book, Uncharted ~ The Journey Through Uncertainty To Infinite Possibility. A must read! Known as the Oracle, Colette opens up about her childhood, troubled teen years, past struggles in search of finding her truth, and the amazing life she has created for herself.

At A Glance

As our conversation began, Colette shared a few intimate details of her life. Colette’s parents were affluent European immigrants that migrated to Canada in the 50’s. Her father was a land developer, philosopher, and inventor, and her mother, 20 years his junior, was a socialite and very beautiful, a cross between Sophia Loren and Ingrid Bergman. eydisauthenticliving.com 19

Growing up Anglican, Colette loved going to church. One of her fondest memories was when her mother gave her a beautiful jeweled Russian cross necklace that she had gotten from Germany, which she wore proudly for many years. Colette was unaware of her intuitive abilities as a child. To know things and receive information about others seemed natural to her, it’s all she knew and thought others could do the same. “ I saw the world as alive in a way that I thought everyone did,” she shares. “I saw Auras and halos around people and thought everyone saw that.” It wasn’t until she began to have a reoccurring dream and her mother’s reaction to that dream that made her question the normalcy of her life. “I had a reoccurring dream over two years on a monthly basis of people being burnt in ovens, ashes coming down like snow with horrible odors. There was a skeletal-looking man whose skin seemed to stretch over his face standing by a table with piles of teeth and bits of metal. What was really uncanny about this was not so much the dream itself, but my mother’s reaction to it. Normally she would allow me to come into sleep with her, but when I had this dream, she would tell me to get back into my bed. So I really associated that dream with something being wrong.” It wasn’t until shortly after her father lost everything at the

age of 75, that she realized the impact of that dream. One evening she had a conversation with her mother who had been drinking. She remembers wearing the cross necklace and her mother abruptly telling her to take it off. “I asked her why and she blurted out because you’re Jewish.” Colette shares. She was stunned as her mother continued to tell the story of her Parisian grandfather who was killed in Dachau Concentration camp. That dream became an important storyline in Colette’s life. It confirmed that she had the gift of know things about others didn’t. That she had access to images and pictures in her head as though she was remembering the past or seeing the future.

first drink. Drinking made her feel “normal” in a way that she wasn’t afraid of herself or her experiences. Coping with what she was seeing and hearing and keeping everything to herself, proved to be very difficult. Despite her adversities, Colette was able to focus on her studies and when she graduated, her parents sent her on to school with the aspirations that Colette would become an attorney. In a brave moment, Colette shared that at the age of 19 while attending college, she was gang raped, a horrendous act that changed her life forever. Colette remembers leaving her body, moving away from the situation as though she was

observing it. As horrific as this experience was, Colette was able to disassociate herself from the pain and trauma that would prove to help her later in life with her Intuitive abilities. “What I realize now is that I was able to leave my body, through a psychotic break and went to a geographical location in the room, which is actually where I go now when I am doing readings,” Colette shares. A moment of surrender showed up in Colette’s life at the age of 27. She remembers being in the basement of a drug dealer’s home strung out on cocaine, hadn’t bathed for a week, and her skin was yellow from jaundice. As she unsteadily walked up the stairs and into

Colette admits, “I never wanted to do this work, I had such a chip on my shoulder, and my parents were so against it that we never really talked about it. I found it a bit shocking that after my parents died, a family friend shared that my father also had this gift. I was told that my parents use to go to parties and my father would go into a trance and read things about people in their Turkish coffee cups.”

Defining Moments

Colette was overwhelmed by the world for most of her early life and needed to find an escape and so she started drinking and doing drugs at the age of 15, believing now that she was an alcoholic at her

“My desire for my future vision was stronger than the addiction that was living in my body.” – Colette Baron-Reid the bathroom, she glanced into a mirror and for the first time, she saw herself truly as she was and what she had become. “I held on to the side of the sink and said help me. It wasn’t like the “help me” from before, help me, help me, please help me and I’ll be a good girl. It was a complete and absolute surrender, I could not do this anymore. I had felt so useless, dirty, and worthless. Then suddenly this translucent bubble surrounded me, and I heard this voice telling me “it’s over.” I then remember leaving in a taxi and I just knew I never had to go back there again.” Colette sought treatment for her drug and alcohol addiction, which 22 | Eydis Magazine

proved to be a defining moment with huge shifts in her spirituality. Although the journey was not an easy one, it was a journey into the uncharted, which actually is the title of her new book. She was now walking into the unknown and had to fully surrender to the new experiences that lie before her. Colette is living proof that it is possible to not only change but to be the conscious Co-Creator of your own life.

Moe’s on Queen Street… Where it all began Shortly after getting clean and sober in 1986, Colette certified as an aromatherapist and continued to pursue a career in music, which was always her

first love – but an aspiration that was waylaid by Spirit’s other plans for Colette. As she began touching people through her aromatherapy, messages and visions immediately appeared causing her to relay information to her clients about their lives that ultimately lead her in the direction of her intuitive gifts. Showing a map of people’s pasts and helping to guide them into the future is what Colette does. She is very candid in revealing that this was not her first choice in a career path, however, she now teaches that you should embrace your gifts, honor yourself and be exactly who you are with no apologies.

Uncharted ~ The Journey Through Uncertainty To Infinite Possibility

Uncharted was written as a sequel to Colette’s book, The Map:

“It is in the uncharted waters, during uncertain times, when you feel most lost that you actually have the greatest opportunity to begin manifesting the life you desire.” – Colette Baron-Reid

Finding The Magic and Meaning In The Story Of Your Life. As I ask her about the creation of her new book and how she came up with the theme, she made me laugh at the authenticity of her answer. “It’s a book created through a collaboration with my guides

who give themselves the name “Fred,” she smiles. I said to them “Fred!” really! A chorus of guides all singing and humming messages in unison, she says with her arms flying up in the air, and that’s the truth, it’s as real as my coffee cup!” She continues, “Stepping into the unknown and releasing ourselves from the prison of our own making is the way forward for all of us, and what we need to do. It’s about co-creating your reality through a new map of life, one that you can

always trust, to reveal itself as each new experience awakens the miracle maker in you. And it’s a deliberate conscious partnership with Spirit that is at the very core of co-creating. “ Something profound happened while Colette was writing this book. The information inside was meant to be of serve to others and it works. If you follow the exercises, Colette shares, that you will have an epiphany. To purchase her book go to colettebaronreid.com

Oracle cards

Known as the Oracle, this is Colette’s passion and obsession. “Oracle cards are a reflective tool for what you cannot see with our own eyes. They give you an understanding of how you are being influenced by the outer world. How you are being influenced by your own thoughts, feelings and beliefs, and how to stay in alignment to your highest good and understand the yearnings and calling of your own soul.” Colette has many decks to choose from on her website at colettebaronreid.com. As a gift, you are able to select a card from one of her decks for a daily reading. Colette does this to teach and empower people to tune into their intuition and to make it a daily practice. Colette has a couple of new decks coming in 2017; “The Good Tarot”, “The Mystic Shaman” created in partnership with Alberto and Marcella Villoldo, along with “Post Cards From Spirit” giving you the ability to connect with your guides and loved ones who have passed. “I love what I do, I feel like an Oracle Elf sitting in the corner at Hay House creating these amazing cards,” Colette smiles. For those of you who are unsure of what Oracle cards are or maybe you just want to learn more about how to use them, Colette offers an online class on the basics of using her cards, that you can find on her website. www.colettebaronreid.com 24 | Eydis Magazine

“Reality is an addiction. We are addicted to seeing the world the way we perceive it through stress and discomfort. We then tell the universe; yes we want more of this.” – Colette Baron-Reid

Advice From Colette Baron-Reid What advice would you give parents who have a child showing intuitive abilities?

Teach them how to meditate. Meditate, meditate, meditate. Mindfulness meditation is crucial. Allow your child to express what they are seeing and hearing, and don’t ever tell them to stop. I think the acceptance of this is really crucial for kids and finding someone really reputable for them to talk to, is equally important. The key is not to suppress it in a child. What we really need to know and remember is that intuition and the access to other dimensions are our first sense, our primary sense. It’s not our 6th sense; we were souls before we were human. We need to work with the GPS (our navigation system) of the soul.

In using just our 5 senses, it creates the illusion that we are all separate. For us to live in this material universe, we have learned to see it as a place of disconnection, separation, scarcity and competition. We have also falsely understood that nature was based on the survival of the fittest but what Darwin’s Theory Of Evolution really said is that nature is based on the survival of those who fit best with one another. It’s about connection. When we look at the world from the connected perspective, there is no scarcity, abundance is everywhere, and resources are not scarce or limited. It is our minds and our belief systems that are limited. That’s why I think people liked the book “The Secret” so much, and why many of us are now again talking about the laws of attraction and other laws of manifestation. I think the book “The Secret” became so popular because we felt it; we knew it at some level to be true. The problem is that people want the familiar and certainty and so to re-condition our minds to something else can be a challenge. The uncharted can be scary but once we get there, it’s like wow!

In Conclusion

“We are at a time where people are capable of manifesting so effortlessly right now, it’s crazy. But what they don’t realize is that when they are tied so closely to their past, that’s why they are sometimes getting mixed results. The way to truly live and choose your reality is to co-create – surrendering the form of your desires to Spirit and keeping your focus on the essence of it. There is a delicate balance between intention and surrender, it is so easy to get caught in the wanting of things but the desire has to be released. Then, of course, we need to remember we co-create our reality within the Matrix of possibility, and we need to make room for whatever our soul wants to experience, which might be different than what our egos want. Everything is a miracle. Everything.” “Gratitude is the abracadabra, the magic. Be grateful in advance for whatever Spirit has in mind. Gratitude is the frequency of receiving. Being grateful allows it to come to you.” To learn more about Colette Baron-Reid, experience her Oracle cards or to purchase her new book, Uncharted ~ The Journey Through Uncertainty To Infinite Possibility, visit www. colettebaronreid.com eydisauthenticliving.com 25

ASK THE LIFE COACHES

Our Sacred Choice by John Schalter and Carrie Hall Schalter

Dear Friends, We felt compelled to change the format of my usual article to share a teaching/learning experience from our own lives. We are all on a wonderful journey on a road of life lessons. It is our belief that in the end, every teacher (or life coach) must teach through example rather than words. This past week John was diagnosed with cancer. Needless to say, this kind of news gets your attention, even though we do not know yet what the stage is or the progression of this condition. However, the stage of cancer does not matter. In this moment, we have a Sacred Choice…a special opportunity. And we choose love and light and to see this news as a blessing. This will become clearer when you read John’s poem listed below. As a writer, John felt great comfort in being able to express himself creatively and using this forum as an opportunity to teach and share. We thank you for that. The beginning of this journey has already been an incredible experience of God’s love manifesting in so many different people, places, and things. As John says… “In life, it does not matter what happens to you as much as what you do with what happens to you. Our greatest power is in this Sacred Choice and the discovery of God’s blessings.”

In the meantime, always remember that “it all good” and “we are all too blessed to be stressed.” Peace and Prosperity, John and Carrie John and Carrie * are Life Coaches and available to help you with almost any life challenge. You can listen to their radio who called “The Butterfly Moment” on the Empower Radio Show to listen to their shows every Tuesday morning for archived on this website (empowerradio.com) If you would like to discuss private sessions call them at 248-568-7021. The Answer By JJS

What if we saw cancer As a beginning rather than an end

For in God’s arms, we lie Our gaze fixed towards the morning sky

And welcomed its entry in our life Like a loving long lost friend

Ever knowing…always showing We finally see…

A friend who is also a teacher

The wonderful truth for you and me When we take the c from c ancer

Who knows just what to do To show us how to live with joy

All that is left is God’s answer

And give strength to me and you What if cancer was as an honored guest?

“We always have a choice Inside the fear to hear His voice

A hidden source of love

No matter what darkness we feel…

Sent to reveal our heart’s resolve A gift given from above

Only the love and light is real”

Whistle WHILE YOU by Sharon Carne

WORK

W

e see more people than not these days with white cords dangling from their ears like spaghetti. We love our music, don’t we? We dance to it. We sing along with it. We eat our meals accompanied by it. We drive to work with it. We study with it. We shop with it bombarding us. We revel in it with our favorite TV show or movie. We are distracted, calmed, angered, energized or relaxed by it. Music is everywhere. Including where we work. Like the wonderful dwarves from Disney’s Snow White, advise – work is a lot easier when you can whistle or sing or listen. The result is increased productivity. Or at least it used to be. Singing while you work, especially at physical labor, does indeed make the job easier. This knowledge goes back thousands of years when there was a special place in a boat or ship for the drummer to keep the rowers in rhythm. Otherwise, you end up with a pile of broken oars and your ship stranded at sea. Recently, neuroscientists have found that the auditory system connects directly to the part of the brain responsible for movement. That’s why most of us can’t sit still when listening to lively, rhythmic

music. It’s like a direct line from your ears to your feet or hands. Your muscles respond to rhythm and your mood responds to pitch and melody. That’s why it is always easier to do rhythmic physical labor to a beat of a song. Work songs have been a part of human culture for thousands of years. Productivity to a beat. There are over ten thousand documented work songs in Canada alone. Hammering, spinning, digging, rowing, marching are more tolerable to a beat. Interestingly, humans are the only species that can synchronize to a beat. Neuroscientists have also discovered that the hormone oxytocin is released when people sing or play music together. Oxytocin is the ‘feel good’ bonding hormone. However, fast-forward to the 20th and 21st centuries and much of the work scene has changed. Many people are sitting in offices and using their brains more than their bodies. Music is very much around, but it has a different role. And it can either enhance or inhibit productivity. Now we have Muzak and background music. During World War II, some factories found that

Inappropriate music or sounds in a retail environment can lower sales as much as 28%. Grocery stores with slower paced background music have shown an increase in sales as much as 40%! Here is a real kicker for those who work in a noisy office – especially an office with a cubicle design. Productivity in such an environment can be as much as 66% lower than working in a quiet office. 66%! That means that working in a quiet space can triple your productivity! Think of what that would do for the bottom line of a business. Not to mention your frustration level with distractions. Depending on the nature of the work, a noisy working space can be a serious problem or a great opportunity. If you are distracted by noise in a busy office, try slipping on some headphones and listening to some bird song or soothing music and see if that helps you focus better. Dear Liberty

I’M MISERABLE IN MY MARRIAGE by Liberty Forrest Dear Liberty,

Dear Miserable,

For a long time, I’ve been convinced that my husband is cheating on me. There have been some suspicious emails with one particular woman. He insists it’s just work stuff and harmless flirting but I’m sure it’s a lot more than that.

Everything I am about to tell you comes from an awful lot of both personal and professional experience. Trust it.

He is also very insulting and sometimes I’m afraid for my safety. He has hit me at times, but it’s not very often. He’s been drinking a lot for a long time, too. He gets nastier when he drinks. He tries to hide it from me but I find empty bottles hidden in the house. When I confront him, he makes up excuses. I know he’s lying but he sounds so convincing I’m starting to doubt myself. I keep looking for proof, some real evidence that he’s having an affair or that he’s drinking as much as I think he is. I keep going to psychics and many of them have said yes this is all true but I still feel like I need proof. I am very unhappy in my marriage of 30 years but do not seem to be able to leave it! I left him for a few months and was very happy in my apartment. He was so nice to me then, promised to go to counseling and talked me into going back home. But nothing has changed except to get worse. What should I do? Signed, Married and Miserable

34 | Eydis Magazine

Stop looking for proof. You’ve got more than enough evidence that your marriage is toxic and dysfunctional. At the very least, your husband insults you and hits you. This is abuse and should not be tolerated. As long as you stay, he thinks it is okay to continue with this behavior. Your life could be in danger. I would highly recommend that you get somewhere safe or at least talk to a women’s shelter about your options. As for the affair and the drinking, you already know the truth. Your instincts will no doubt be correct about both. Alcoholics often attempt to hide their drinking in order to minimize the amount they’re consuming because they know it’s a huge problem. And both abusers and alcoholics (or other addicts) are accomplished liars and can convince you that they’re right and you’re wrong - and then you start doubting yourself. Over time, this erodes self-confidence.

Then you begin to wonder if you really did hear this, see that etc. and you think maybe you’re crazy. You’re not. Stop going to psychics for evidence. You’re wasting

your money because you already know everything you need to know - and you do know this. I suspect you’re afraid of the truth because of what it will mean for your future.

Getting away from this toxic environment and seeking professional help will assist you in trusting yourself and finding your strength so you can create a much happier life.

“There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.” Ansel Adams

Dear Tamara I am single again and was hoping to meet a man organically, but it hasn’t happened. Therefore, I’ve decided to try online dating. Can you give me some tips on creating online dating profile photos that attract high-quality men? Signed: Camera Shy Dear Camera Shy, You made a great decision to try online dating. It is one of the quickest ways to meet a volume of men in a very short amount of time. Since males are very visual, you’ll have more success attracting high-quality men when you follow the photo tips below. Some years ago, there was a study conducted with hundreds of single men. The researchers 38 | Eydis Magazine

gave each man a large binder with thousands of photographs of women of all ages, sizes, races, poses, apparel, etc. and asked them to choose the ladies that they found attractive and worth pursuing. The study revealed that generally speaking, men chose the following components as very desirable. (Note: There are two kinds of photos for dating site profiles,

Primary and Secondary Photos.) Primary Photo – This is a headshot photo and the most important feature of your profile because it makes the first impression. This photo should attract and intrigue the viewer. Lighting is important, so you may want to consider hiring a professional photographer. However, if you don’t have the

funds for that, then ask a friend to take 100 photos of you, both in and out doors. You’re bound to find a hand-full of photos that’ll be fantastic.

TIPS FOR A GREAT PRIMARY PHOTO In the study mentioned above, men mostly chose women who were: •

Wearing any shade of the color red.

Wearing longer hairstyles (chin and lower). However, short hair was found attractive if the hair was styled in the latest trend.

Wearing a top or dress with a scooped neckline (showing some skin but not too much cleavage).

Looking directly into the camera, smiling with all of pearly-whites showing, with a look in the eyes that say, “I really like you.”

Wearing feminine jewelry (but not too much).

Wearing tastefully done makeup.

Wearing no glasses, sunglasses or scarves around the neck.

Once you’ve got a man’s attention with your Primary Photo, he has clicked on and opened your dating profile, which means he now has access to your secondary photos. These photographs are great for showing your personality, hobbies, travels, etc. These include both full-body and headshot photos.

TIPS FOR GREAT SECONDARY (OR ALBUM) PHOTOS In the study mentioned above, men mostly chose women who: •

Showed at least one fullbody shot. Most men didn’t care if women were thin or large, as long as they could see that she had a shape. For example, women wearing outfits that were belted or pulled in at the waist were popular because it showed that she had a womanly figure. (Tip for the older woman: wear jeans because they inspire a youthful look.) Did not have anyone else in the photo except herself. Photos with other people tend to cause confusion and distraction.

Did not have pets in the photograph. Even though there are many pet-loving men, they want the sense that they (not the pet) would take priority in a woman’s life.

Showed themselves doing something active, such as, bicycle riding, hiking, traveling, walking, running, gardening, socializing, etc.

Have at least one photograph of being dressed up. So, next time you are invited to a wedding or some other dressy event, make sure you ask people to take some photos of glamorous you.

WHEN THE COMMON APP GOES LIVE EVERY YEAR, ANXIETY AMONG THE NATION’S PARENTS AND FUTURE COLLEGE STUDENTS KICKS INTO HIGH GEAR. by Sari Cicurel

P

arents want to help their children get their best shot at admission to that dream school, the one that may not have been such a stretch when they went to college. They don’t know how to help. And the mixed messages that come from colleges, high schools, books, TV and the Internet trigger confusion.

40 | Eydis Magazine

Wow Writing Workshop’s Kim Lifton and Susan Knoppow just penned the first guide for parents that gives Mom and Dad permission to help their children write college application essays – and instructions for doing so without writing it or taking it over! “We embrace the parents

whose children are applying to college rather than pushing them away,” said Lifton, president and co-founder of Wow, a national writing company based in Royal Oak, MI. “Parents tell us they are tired of being told to step away and back off. They want to help. There is a fine line between assisting and writing the essay

for a child. However, we believe parents can play a critical role in the writing process.” The Inside Scoop for Parents clarifies the mixed messages that confuse parents and students and also defines the college essay within the holistic college admissions process. The book gives

parents a job that will help their children write better, more meaningful application essays. The essay is the most daunting part of the application process for many students; when parents help the right way, the essays are more effective. Admissions teams don’t grade

college essays with a rubric, but they say the best college essays answer the prompt and show insight into a student’s character. At its core, the college essay is all about reflection; that’s challenging for students because most 17-year-olds have very little practice with this type of thinking and writing. eydisauthenticliving.com 41

HOW TO WRITE AN EFFECTIVE COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY

The Inside Scoop for Parents is short, easy to follow and gives parents simple instructions to teach their children how to reflect on their life experiences so their children are better prepared to write college essays that get noticed. “I wish I had this guide when my oldest daughter was applying to college,” said 42 | Eydis Magazine

Debbie Logan, a professional editor from Bloomfield Hills, MI. “I sanitized my daughter’s essays; I have no idea if that hurt her or not. I just wanted to help. I did not know how.” Rebecca Gold, of Word Gets Around Publishing, in Providence, Rhode Island, is about to put her third child – a rising senior - through the application process. She said the book was “very helpful and exceptionally well written.”

“Even though I’ve been through this process already, I learned a lot, and I found this guide easy to understand and follow,” Gold said. “Rather than telling me what to do, it helped me understand what my child needed to be successful in this process and what I could do to support him. The quotes from the college admissions people throughout the guide made it quite engaging, and in fact, I read it cover to cover in one sitting, which is saying a lot for a reference book!”

Lifton said the book idea transpired after Wow advised a super-involved parent to step away and let the child write in private. The parent asked what she could do to assist her child and suggested she and her partner, Susan Knoppow, Wow CEO, give parents a job, a little guide, so they don’t do the wrong thing – like write it for the child. “There is so much bad information floating around in this industry that we wanted to give parents something useful,” Lifton said. “There was nothing on the market that spoke directly to parents and gave them something useful to do to really guide their children. We’re parents and teachers; we understood the desire to assist as teachers and as moms.” Colleges, high school counselors, and other wellmeaning adults do know what colleges want in an essay; few understand the college audience to teach them how to write the essays.

“It’s a thinking task as much as it is a writing task,” Lifton said. “It’s not as hard as it appears, but it is not a simple task. That’s why parents can support the process by helping their children reflect at the beginning. It is a critical role. Who else would go to the moon and back to help their child?” Wow’s guide gives clear instructions for assisting with the reflection exercise and provides tips for knowing when to step away and let the child work independently or seek out professional guidance. “Like the students, parents need short, easy to follow directions and a lot of perspective,” Lifton said. “A simple guide for parents will give Mom and Dad a roadmap for assisting their children in a healthy way. It minimizes the confusion and the stress. When students come to us with the ability to reflect, they answer the prompts and write more meaningful essays that show insight.” Wow Writing Workshop, launched in 2009, is the leading national expert on the college application essay. Wow speaks at schools, conferences and college fairs. In September, Lifton will moderate a panel featuring the college essay at the largest industry conference – The National Association for College Admissions Counseling’s annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio. Panelists include admissions directors from Cornell, University of Chicago, Amherst and the University of California – Berkeley.

Wow works directly with students, and trains school counselors, English teachers and independent educational consultants who want to improve their essay-coaching skills. Wow also consults with business and nonprofit professionals, managing their biggest writing challenges, teaching them how to write, or taking on their projects themselves. Author and development psychologist Susan Pinker wrote recently in the Wall Street Journal,” People who had face-to-face contact with children, friends and family as infrequently as every few months had the highest rates of [depression] Those who connected with people in person, at least three times a week, had the lowest.” Pittsburgh blogger mom Molly Pascal’s recent Modern Love Column recounted how infrequently she and her husband of seven years talked to one another. “This dynamic — of being physically together but emotionally disengaged — had also bled into the mundane of the every day, with too much silence and space between us on the couch and with us cooking on opposite sides of the kitchen island.” Her cure? Talking. Darvick, a mother of two

young adults, understands and appreciates the benefits of technology. A decades-long observer and writer on topics of parenting, relationships, and spiritual growth, she also understands the primal necessity to connect without it as well. Unique among the genre of discussion starters, the prompts use nature photographs (taken by her husband from their extensive travels) to inspire each card’s theme. Grief, mindfulness, new parenting, and making difficult decisions are just a few of the conversation topics presented. “This is not just about a conversation with friends and loved ones,” she says. “Because we are so outwardly engaged with our devices, we are not only losing touch with one another but with our inner self. These questions ask us to look within. They open doors to selfdiscovery.”

Having overcome those difficulties Marla now hopes to share her story to reach and empower others. Being a mother of three she is no stranger to seeing again the peer pressure and bullying that goes on. She is also well aware of the toll these kinds of abuse can have on someone’s selfconfidence and self-esteem. Just recently, Marla took the opportunity to put a call out to families who have adopted in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month (November), of course, a cause near and dear to her. During this time, Marla seizes the opportunity to empower her subject by instilling positive self-esteem and embracing and highlighting the beauty of her subject. When the client returns to the studio for the “reveal” Marla puts together a custom show, for her subject and their loved ones to enjoy. A life changing journey has begun. An Enchanted portrait session is focused on celebrating emotions and highlighting relationships. Families are brought together after the session to Marla’s enchanting studio to a screening of their photo session to share the sacred moments that were beautifully captured. The resulting images are uplifting and empowering.

Connecting You With You

IT’S TIME TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR SELF! by Amanda Butler

I

magine, as you wake up in the morning, you give your Self a great big hug and you’re happy to be alive. You feel good about your Self. You love and accept your Self no matter whom and no matter what. Imagine, as put you put your feet on the floor, you’re excited to start the day, even if there are challenges or obstacles you must address. Imagine, knowing and trusting you are the creator. You are the ‘I AM’, who can create the experiences you Truly desire and you look forward to it as you move into the day.

“There are two basic motivating forces... fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life. – John Lennon

lovable and successful we must achieve on the outside, whether it is finding love with another, attaining our career goals, having money in the bank. We forget and don’t necessarily know how to love, to care for ourselves, to cherish and adore ourselves along the way. Instead we programmed and conditioned to criticize, judge and push ourselves to the brink of exhaustion, frustration and even destruction before we decide that something needs to change. We forget to acknowledge the steps we make along the way, to praise the work we have done and to celebrate our wins.

The Universal Energy Form of Compassion from The Diamond Co-Creative System™ provides the energetic vibrations to help you activate your Soul Codes of Destiny and Success. This sacred geometry technology assists you to create MORE acceptance, compassion and love within your Self and others as you align with your Soul’s Essence and the Universe’s Highest Potential which it holds for you.

So maybe you can’t imagine this. Maybe you can’t envision this for your Self. Well, let me assure you, it can be so. The first step towards making this a reality for you is to be committed to be totally and utterly in love with your Self. It might be piece by piece and step by step, but it can happen! Unfortunately, many look outside of themselves to fall in love and to be in love. And through their

56 | Eydis Magazine

experiences they become disappointed, hurt and even disillusioned with love. What they have forgotten is how to be in love with themselves, regardless of who is in their life, or what is going on around them. We’re not taught how to love ourselves, how to take care of ourselves, how to value ourselves. Our conditioning and programming has shown us in order to be considered

Typically, when we achieve a goal we immediately move on to the next thing and don’t even revel in the joy of what we just accomplished. And this happens with our love relationships too … never quite satisfied, taking inventories of what’s not or who they’re not, and someone including your Self not living up to unspoken or unrealistic expectations. This occurs when you don’t feel the love for your Self within and looking for outside influences to ‘fill you up’ and make you feel good. When I work with clients I usually begin with the journey of having them learn how to fall in love with themselves. To learn how to love free of conditions, which means to rid themselves of conditional love and all of the judgments and non-acceptance they have about themselves and others.

When we conditionally love, you and others must ‘show up’ a certain way through the rules of what it ‘should’ look like, how you or they ‘should’ act, how you or they ‘should’ be. There is definitely a lack of acceptance, compassion and grace. I guide them how to be in relationship with themselves first before being in it with others. According to Webster’s dictionary, the definition of relationship is “connection, association, or involvement: an emotional or other connection between people.” What most forget and have not learned is the most important relationship first and foremost is to have one with your Self. To be in connection and relation with Self. It’s the most generous and kind thing you can do for your Self. In John Lennon’s quote he said, “We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create.” His point about loving all parts of ourselves is the key. Yes, there may be things about your Self you don’t like, how you feel, or what you may have done or didn’t do, but this gives us a playground of opportunities and expansion to play within.

your Self. Acceptance does not mean you condone the action, it just means you accept what happened and from there you can learn and change it to match to the vibrations (thoughts, feelings, beliefs, words, actions) of what you desire. What you want to create in the futures as to your new experiences and outcomes. Without contrast, we would not know what doesn’t work for us and what we don’t like and don’t want. We can shift our perspectives of problems, issues and challenges by seeing them as opportunities, then as gifts and pathways to a new way of ‘be’-ing. We do so by being open to become aware, to acknowledge, to accept, and then choose what you want to do with it – ignore it, or change it. ‘It’ being the energetic vibration of what you are creating within you and around you … in your relationships, life, work, health, money, etc.

Life is full of ups and downs, of problems and solutions, of failures and successes. When you are in love with your Self, rather than beating your Self up, hating who you are, comparing your Self to others, you can move through any aspect of your Self and life with acceptance, compassion and grace. Even at times in which you’re not happy with how you behaved, what you said or did, you can still have the unwavering vibrations of love and connection with your Soul’s Essence and the Universe to support and guide you. Fear no longer stops you. Before falling in love with your Self, fear shows up as judgment, blame, guilt, shame, not good enough, not lovable, not successful, envious, jealous, condemnation, to name just a few. But when you are in love with your Self, fear has a different definition and motivation. Rather than the

These “imperfections” give us the opportunity to learn, heal and grow. It does not mean anything about us except that ‘it is, what it is’. Acceptance is a huge gift you can give to eydisauthenticliving.com 57

energetics of fear being about Finding Evidence that Appears Real (all based on the past, conditioning and programming), it is about Focus Energies to Alter Results. You have the power within to choose what you do with your fear. You can choose that is no longer stands in your way. In fact, you can utilize it to get you where you want to go by focusing the energy in a positive manner. And “when we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance” as John says.

Accept your Self as you are … “the goods, the bads and the uglies.” If there are aspects you want to change, then be willing address them and find the help and steps to assist you.

Give your Self a big bear hug and tell your Self “I love me!” at least once a day. At the end of the day before you go to sleep, write down at least one (if not more) win for the day and one way you appreciate your Self (even the small ones count!)

HERE ARE 5 TIPS TO HELP YOU TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR SELF: •

Make the commitment to journal every day; the most optimum time is in the morning when the subconscious is near the surface after you awake. This helps with becoming MORE aware about what’s going on within you and your life, and to connect with your Self and your Soul at a deeper level. Get in touch with your feelings. I know this sounds sappy but most don’t know what they really feel about themselves, others or circumstances. They try to stuff or ignore their feelings because they’re afraid of what they think it means about them or their life. They rather stay in denial which only leads to more issues and unhappiness.

THE DEAFE SOUND

Sile

by Elaine M. Grohman

T

here is silence – and there is silence. There is one type of silence that is wholesome and good, luxuriant in the quiet that offers the heart and mind the time to drift into a deeply contemplative and meditative state. This type of silence is peaceful, joyful and rich with possibilities – offering 60 | Eydis Magazine

the mind a fertile landscape in which to conceive new and beautiful ideas, insights and answers. This silence is accessible to anyone willing to be quiet long enough to be in that silence – whether in the appreciative watching of a sleeping child, or the breathtaking brushstroke of a sunrise or sunset or in the

silence where new insights are born. Within this silence we can glimpse the hours and days we have yet to experience, calling forth the potential futures we wish to participate in creating. And then there is the other kind of silence - the kind of silence that is forced. This

ENING D OF

ence

is the kind of silence that is born of oppression, fear, anger, and separation. From this, human dignity is overlooked, and eyes, ears, and voices are averted, squashing futures and extinguishing dreams. This kind of silence causes thinking and untapped gifts to lie dormant in the contaminated environment of oppression of any kind.

Have you ever wondered how it is that humanity has learned to allow unkindness and atrocities to occur without us stepping in to do something? Have you ever found yourself drowning in the anger of your own unheard voice, as you wind your way through the maze of perceived impediments to your well-being? I have pondered that question many times. I have thought long and hard about things that have decreed autonomy, clarity, and peace nearly nonexistent for countless people. I wanted to understand the depth and reason for the silences that have held us bound both today and in centuries past and why we choose silence over goodness, and inequality over equality. Why have we allowed it to become commonplace for us to be willing to denigrate and undermine our fellow human beings, seeing it as newsworthy entertainment rather than the truth of what it is? In the attempt to comprehend this human flaw, I began to watch historical documentaries and movies, along with reading books that shone light on the ongoing challenges that people have faced over the centuries. One common thread has woven through the fabric of our know history, in times that has gone unchecked for far too long. This thread is the latter kind of silence that allows oppressive silence to unravel the lives and futures of others. If imposed silence is ignored, what was once beautiful and workable will become rare, with nothing remaining but a tattered pile of strings, leaving behind little semblance of the magnificence of our human potentials. The question remains. What will we choose? The story by Hans Christian Andersen entitled, “The Emperor’s New Clothes, illustrates how some remain silent in the face of clear untruths, believing that somehow they will gain. When we learn to no longer remain silent like the children in the story, we will remember that we all have the ability to see beyond pretense or grand illusions. And then we can appreciate the best kind of silence - the silence that allows us to dream a new and better life into being for us all.

Forget

YOU NEVER

62 | Eydis Magazine

by Ann Leach

T

hey say you never really forget how to ride a bike, but I beg to differ. No, wait, I don’t. I see now that we do remember how: straddle the bike, balance yourself on the saddle, put your feet on the pedals and your hands on the handlebars and go.

Fortunately, my mother knew it was best to support me in seizing the moment, lest it passed and my fear continued. We went out to the sidewalk and I instantly knew to pedal and balance and steer and move. It was a glorious moment of freedom and pride. And I felt so grown up.

But there’s that whole part about the fear that they forget to tell you could still be part of the remembering. That’s been my experience as I recently accepted a challenge to ride my bike sixty miles per month to commemorate that auspicious milestone birthday that hit me last May.

Author Elizabeth Gilbert discussed her own fears in her latest book, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, and wrote “It seems to me that the less I fight my fear, the less it fights back. If I can relax, fear relaxes, too.”

I don’t recall how old I was when the training wheels were removed and I took off on my bike. It was after my dad died and I was 8 when that happened. My mom would go outside with me and walk beside me as I pedaled away with the training wheels to support me. Some friend of hers must have advised her that it was time to remove them because suddenly one day, without consulting or warning me, I went out to ride and found things were different. And I was petrified. I felt like my good friend, the bike, had betrayed me and was growing up without me. For days, maybe weeks, Mom would cajole me into trying to ride the bike once again. I resisted because every time I got back in the saddle it just felt so uncomfortable and scary that I wouldn’t let myself go anywhere. I remember clearly being at dinner and just knowing I could ride the bike unassisted. I announced to my mother that I had to go ride my bike right then, despite the fact that dinner was not over. But when you know something is right, you just know it.

I’ve been surprised that my friend Fear has been such a part of my bike riding adventure at age sixty. Shouldn’t I have outgrown this phase by now? Don’t I know a few tips for squashing fear after a lifetime of coping with it? I do and I have, but that really doesn’t matter when we’re doing something new, despite having done it years ago. But that is exactly what has helped sooth my fear as I venture farther out of my comfort zone with my new trusted companion, Flourish the bike: remembering that I have done it before. I have evidence that I have ridden a bike before, thanks to my positive memories, and those rides with neighborhood kids are imprinted in my cell memory. So at sixty, I just kept reminding myself “You’ve felt this feeling before and overcame it and had a great time.” And that is working for me today. The Butterfly Moment What is a “Butterfly Moment?” There is an incredible “HAPPENING” that occurs when a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. The caterpillar is encapsulated by a cocoon of its own making. It is imprisoned in a state of total immobility and darkness. Understandably, it must be a time of pain, panic and despair. However, as a certain life force of “allowing” takes over, this creature instinctively “lets go and lets God” an incredible transformation occurs. It is a transformation and struggle that is totally personal. Scientist tell us that if you help a caterpillar by cutting it out of the cocoon it will die because this struggle pushes life giving energy deep into its growing wings. In other words, “no pain…no gain.” As life energies slowly break loose the caterpillar from the cocoon, an incredible moment occurs. This caterpillar has a realization. It is a moment when it finally understands that all of this pain, panic and despair were for a reason. The caterpillar is not what it thought it was! It is one of the most beautiful insects in the world… that can fly!

Can you think of a more “AHA!” moment that this?

ensitives come in all ages, sizes, races and faiths. They can look like everyone else, and yet stand out by being empathic, compassionate, creative people. Sometimes they are at peace with these gifts, but for others, it creates inner turmoil and can lead to minor or significant difficulties.

MENTORING AND PARENTING SENSITIVES Are you, or is your loved one, a Six-Sensory?

To additionally complicate the situation, some Sensitives have anxieties and/or ADHD and may even be on the Autism Spectrum. They often love nature and animals. They tend to seem older than their years, or may be characterized as ‘old souls’. They are often right-brain thinkers who are creative and artistic. They are deep thinkers and tend to be bright. In school or the workplace, they may be unsuccessful or seem unmotivated because of the mismatch between their learning style and the system. Sensitives may be argumentative and headstrong. They are frustrated with our society because they came into the world knowing how things should be in our institutions, systems, and relationships. Yet as children they don’t have the power to create this change. Their ability to comprehend their world may be great, but their ability to cope with this awareness is compromised because they have neither the life experience nor the emotional maturation to handle what they know. eydisauthenticliving.com 67

Sensitives may feel misplaced and alone. They frequently verbalize their dislike for (or discomfort with) their school, peers, and/or community. Their belief is that few individuals truly understand them and think as they do. Their feelings of personal isolation and different-ness can lead to anxiety and depression, then be exacerbated by the “negative emotions” they absorb while in the presence of others. Sensitives are often referred to as Six-Sensory Beings because of their heightened awareness of the six senses, sometimes in varying amounts: • Touch: The individual complains about irritating fabric, embroidery, tags or the sensation of water on the skin. Some are uncomfortable being touched by others.

68 | Eydis Magazine

• Hearing: This individual hears everything (other than directions to clean their room or put out the garbage). Certain tones can be distracting or even distressing. I had a student who was bothered by the classroom TV’s high-pitched sound. In a noisy classroom or environment, the individual can have difficulty distinguishing a specific voice in the midst of others, or might feel the need to tune everything out. • Taste: Flavors or textures can limit the types of foods eaten.

Sensitives don’t necessarily realize that they are sensing the emotions of others. In fact, their anxiety, anger or sadness might be coming from people in their surroundings. Understanding the Sensitives in your life allows you to avoid focusing on what seemed to be undesirable traits and provides the opportunity for empathy and acceptance for yourself and others. Here are ways to support these individuals: • Teach them that being different is not bad.

• Smell: Sensitivity to chemicals or fragrances.

• Allow them to verbalize their experiences.

• Seeing: These individuals will take in their entire visual surroundings and notice all the details.

• Keep your own energy and emotions calm when communicating, especially when offering criticism or suggestions.

• Sixth sense: Intuition and the awareness of others’ energies and emotions.

• Focus on their gifts: compassion, empathy,

creativity, intelligence, rather than any challenging behaviors. • Help them realize that they may be affected by the moods of family, peers or even people that they don’t know who are nearby.

• Provide structure and familiar routines. • Encourage breath-work and relaxation. • Teach grounding techniques for anxiety, agitation or hyperactivity: Sit or stand with your feet on the ground. Imagine the trunk (torso) of your body is the trunk of the tree. Feel the strength of the tree move down through your legs and feet (the roots), anchoring you into earth. • Use your own energetic skills to clear the negative energies from physical spaces (more about this in a future article). • Find a mentor or counselor who understands Sensitives’ six-sensory experiences and who can teach them how to set verbal, physical and energetic boundaries and to recognize their inherent gifts. • Continue to educate yourself about Highly Sensitive People, Indigo Children, and Crystal Children.

I believe Sensitives will help us to create a peaceful world that promotes and maintains ecological and social responsibility. We who are Sensitives and we who understand Sensitives have an extraordinary opportunity to parent and mentor these SixSensories to achieve their destiny. I hold the Sensitives in my life (and yours) in love and light. May we all know and attain our highest

5 TOP TIPS FOR NEW MIDLIFE

Entrepreneurs by Pat Duckworth

70 | Eydis Magazine

F

or most women, midlife is a time of change: physical changes in the body as a result of hormonal shifts; changes at home as children grow up and become independent; and changes in close relationships as they mature or come to an end. For some women, these changes are accompanied by developments in their careers and work lives as well. These changes can be positive and life-enhancing or they can be the start of a realization that you are feeling unhappy and unfulfilled. Midlife can be a time to re-assess where you are in what you wanted to achieve and how close you are to achieving your dream or life purpose. More and more women are becoming midlife entrepreneurs. The good news is that 70% of businesses started by people in their 50s survive for at least 5 years whereas only 28% of those started by younger people last that long. This may be due to factors such as life and professional experience, transferable work skills and bigger networks of business contacts.

Here are 5 tips for becoming a successful midlife entrepreneur:

1

Follow your dream. Setting up your own business can be challenging. If you choose an enterprise that you love and feel passionate about, you will stay motivated to overcome obstacles and embrace opportunities. So take time to consider what makes you happy? What could you set out to achieve that would mean the world to you?

2

Surround yourself with supportive people. Who you spend time with is who you become so it is essential to spend time with people who support and encourage you. These may not be the same people who were your supporters in your pre-change life. Those people may feel threatened and concerned about your new direction. Create a new community of supporters who are relevant to your enterprise through physical networking as well as online networks. Set up a Mastermind group of likeminded entrepreneurs.

eydisauthenticliving.com 71

3

Believe in yourself. It is almost inevitable that as soon as you start doing something new you will hear that little voice in your head telling you what you can’t do, those unhelpful thoughts. They are only thoughts and you don’t have to listen to them. Replace them with enabling thoughts about what you can do, what you can achieve. You may not completely believe those thoughts at first but the more you think them, the more real they will become.

4

Don’t do everything yourself. As an entrepreneur, you need three skillsets, entrepreneurial, managerial and technical. You will already have skills that come easily to you. These are your ‘superpowers’. You will be most effective and 72 | Eydis Magazine

successful when you are in a role that plays to those skills. The challenge is to recognize them and leverage them in your new enterprise. Outsource the tasks you are less good at.

5

Celebrate your successes. Be your own cheerleader. At the end of every day take time to acknowledge all of the positive things that you have achieved during the day, the big and the small things. You could keep a gratitude journal in which you make a note every day of the good things you have noticed that day. You can have a ‘Happy Jar’ and put notes in it of all the good stuff. Put it somewhere prominent in your workspace. And celebrate with your support community – cake or a glass of wine is always acceptable. Remember, you are making this

change to improve your life. Check in with your emotions every day and notice any negative feelings you have about what you are doing. Don’t judge the feelings, just listen to the messages they are sending you and make adjustments. Mostly, have fun! You can do this. Dear Dream Expert,

Dear Space Traveler,

I’m on a small spacecraft heading into deep space. There is only the pilot and myself. He has parasites that I must not catch. I wear a special suit, but they are everywhere and I’m terrified. I try to help him, but the infestation is so severe that nothing I do seems to help. They are little tiny spider looking things that will go into any orifice. The trip is long and arduous; I’m exhausted. We arrive at a huge space station and are not allowed to dock because of these [parasites]. I feel I’m going crazy. Finally, things are handled and we are allowed to dock. The pilot is helped and healed physically. I have trouble trusting the danger is over and returning to regular work. Someone in a desperate plea for help infects me with the parasites. The pilot is asked to comfort me as I endure the treatment, but he refuses. I regain my health and we part ways. I’m injured and resentful he wouldn’t help me after I helped him.

Your dream is a great example of a narrative dream. This dream follows a story line and can maintain the story over several nights. The cohesiveness of the story shows that your line of thinking during the day is also cohesive and follows a theme. Dreams about space deal with expansive thinking. This can be called superconscious mind. The pilot is a part of yourself; you can think of him as a facet of your personality. Parasites drain your energy by feeding on the nutrients that you need to be healthy, so this is a habit that drains your energy. The pilot is the one infected at first, so the part of you that can journey deep into your consciousness is being drained by this habit. This part of you is eventually healed, but then your conscious waking mind is infected with the same draining habit. This often occurs because thought energy naturally moves from the inner mind to the outer mind. Even though you eventually change and heal this habitual thought/action you are hurt and resentful because the “spiritual voyager” within you did not come to your aid after all of your efforts.

Sincerely, Space Traveler

3 PREVENTATIVE PRACTICES FOR

Heart & Soul by Anna Pereira

I

t’s time to admit that what we think about, impacts our life. It influences how we act and react. How and what we think about affects us physically too. Stress, headaches, chronic pain, overeating, not eating, and so many other physical ailments

78 | Eydis Magazine

come about due to what goes on in our mind. We likely are triggered by something that has caused us emotional pain, has left us feeling abandoned, alone or fearful. Many of our thoughts

are so deep in the back of our psyche, that we don’t even acknowledge the thought, but suffer the effects. Trying to control your thoughts is really difficult. One example is, how to forgive someone for

wronging you or a loved one. Just the thought of a person who has caused physical or emotion pain stings the heart and clenches the gut. We have heard, ‘To forgive them is to release ourselves from the shackles’ and so as we

incorporate this belief into our consciousness, and if we accept this belief with full self-love, we can forgive. But how do we take where we are, and safeguard ourselves from future trauma, slipping into

the abyss of stress, depression or worse? We hear it all the time, ‘Think Positive’ and it’s not something you can easily do in the moment unless you have built up the proper reserves within eydisauthenticliving.com 79

your spiritual and emotional self. Let’s try some prevention, shall we? During the times of trial and upset, is the most difficult to shift our thinking and refocus our attention on what is good in our lives. Let’s face it, to count our blessings during a downturn requires at some time prior to that, acknowledging our blessings existed in the first place. It is human nature to go through life day by day and when something bad happens, we call it out and get so entrenched in the negative. How do we not keep spinning down, down, down?

It is important to have positive thinking and train your thoughts to be positive as a preventative measure to your well-being. Have you ever thought of it that way? Prevent getting drowned by negative thoughts (and destructive behaviors) by learning to be able to think positive NOW. I have 3 suggestions to help you create a preventative strategy to help you daily and when the hard times hit, you will have done the work to have more resilience. You, in essence, will be emotionally and spiritually stronger and what may be a storm coming, you react and internalize it as a mere sun shower. It is all in our mind.

Prevention Tip Number 1 Practice Affirmations You rise every morning and see either the same wall, door or window in front of you. Put a note there: ‘I am thankful for waking up today’. You then enter the bathroom, feed the cat, or start on your daily routine. Put notes along the path of where you will pass. Mirrors, walls, doors, on the coffee pot, on the refrigerator and even in the refrigerator! These notes need to be in plain view. Don’t ignore your ‘Positive Thinking & Prevention’ notes (also known as affirmations). Don’t allow them to blend into the wall. Read them each day. Breathe them in, they are your well-being supplements, just as vitamins are to your body for preventative physical care, these ‘affirmations’ are your emotional and spiritual preventative care. Some note suggestions: I love all that I Am. I Am Kindness. I Give 100% to what I believe in. I Am Blessed and Grateful. I Am every decision I make, and I make decisions in my best interest. I Am worthy. I Am beautiful. I Am abundant. I Am prosperous. I Am healthy. I Am joy.

80 | Eydis Magazine

Prevention Tip Number 2 Meditate For those that meditate, not one person will tell you they have not received positive benefits from it. In fact, meditation is the ‘cure all’ for relieving almost any type of emotional unrest, stress, finding the answers you seek and so much more. I know, ‘But I can’t relax my mind’ you might be saying to yourself. You can research meditation and find thousands of techniques like to concentrate on your breathing, imagine yourself filling up with water, try it laying down, try it outside, try it with tranquil music, and so many more suggestions. I urge you to try different methods to find what is right for you. My personal method, and not sure why this works for me, is to be in silence (a commodity

for many to find and I truly appreciate and honor the silence). Since I am a highly visual person, I need to ‘imagine stuff’ occupying my mind. The way I trick myself into floating into a meditative state is by imagining a white room with white furniture. I enter this room and walk to the other side where there are panoramic windows and I see nothing but ocean and sky. As I imagine myself feeling tranquil and l am looking out the windows, I begin to slip into a meditation. For me, it’s like a lucid dream and I then start to guide my experience and also receive messages. It’s really amazing. Sometimes, I purge negative feelings and open my eyes with tears streaming down my face, but the effects of this practice, I can tell you, cleans house on a deep emotional and spiritual level like nothing else I’ve experienced.

Prevention Tip Number 3 Heal Your Heart Heartbreak. Eck. That is one of those words that automatically makes you frown. We all have experienced heartbreak. Either being disappointed in someone, ourselves or being hurt by someone we deeply loved and perhaps lost. To heal your heart from someone or something is a practice that should be done when you just can’t seem to shake the feelings of hurt and pain when you think of that person or time in your life. It also is about forgiving yourself. It was okay to give your heart over to someone, but now it’s time to take it back. Again, I am only passing along this amazing visualization because it was suggested to me and by golly, IT WORKED! I prepared for this visualization with a candle, dark room (my

beat, crying like an all out mess! But I can tell you, this worked. Try it and I think you will find great comfort and healing that you may not have imagined possible. I hope you try one or all three of these suggestions. When you care for yourself, give yourself love and feed your mind, body, and soul with the nutrition it needs, you will see how much stronger you are when the tough times come. bedroom, my sanctuary) and complete silence. And tissues, don’t forget the tissues. This visualization is much like a meditation. Again, for those who think they ‘can’t do meditation’, yes you can. I sat cross-legged on my bed and stared into a candle, allowing my focus to be there, in the flame for a few moments until I was centered and my breathing was even and relaxed. My palms were up, resting on my knees (typical meditation position you see in the photographs) and I closed my eyes. I began to visualize a heart floating above my head. It was transparent with a glimmer and sheen as it is made of glass, glistening with the most beautiful beams of golden light shooting out from the inside! It was alive and radiating pure love. It hovered above my head and I started to cry as I focused on its beauty and not the visual 82 | Eydis Magazine

beauty of its magnificence, but the feeling of beauty it held. I honored that heart. It was all and everything of who I was. It was my past, present and future. I reveled in its glorious silence with beaming light causing everything else to stop, look and listen to it. It was the essence of me, and yet I gazed upon it with the highest respect as if it wasn’t mine and I was just its keeper. What an experience! As I visualized this pulsating glowing glass heart for several minutes, tears running down my face, palms facing up resting on my knees, I felt when enough purging was done through the tears, I (physically with my human hands) grasped the heart like it was the most valuable, delicate object in the Universe, brought my hands down to the center of my chest and put my heart there. I gave my heart back to myself. I sat for several minutes with my hands over my heart feeling it

I am living proof, and I promise you, YOU CAN DO IT. Start where you are and see how much more positive you become in 5 days, 10 days, a month, a year. You will change the world when you change yourself to be more positive. Sending you divine blessings my Friend! You are Love, Kindness, and Joy. Tap into it. It’s all there for you to experience. NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE

FULL LIFE VS.EXPERIENCE

by Kate Sholonski

Y

ou have probably heard the phrase “Near Death Experience” or NDE, the phenomena in which a person dies and experiences a sense of leaving their body while feeling complete peace and love. 86 | Eydis Magazine

From accounts that I’ve read, it is apparently a mind-blowing event that puts people in a challenging position of choosing to come back to life or to continue to travel the road of pure bliss. Although I can

honestly say I look forward to going on that ride, I’m not in a big rush to leave this life. One morning while hiking a back road near my home, I was playing with the thought of a

“Near Life Experience”. Even though my heartbeat is strong and regular and my breath is in sync with life itself, I wondered if I am as alive as I could be. When I am fully present, I feel the sweetness of each breath. If I am completely connected to the person or people around me, I feel inexplicable joy. On the other hand, when my mind is busy working on something, or I’m distracted by some problem or challenge, I’m not feeling all that alive. In this stress-filled world, we’re all living in, I imagine there are many people that have a very low level of aliveness most of the time and rarely even get a whiff of bliss. Clearly, the day to day challenges we all experience are not going away soon, so it would be wise to stay awake the best we can so we know if we’re selling out on our joy, peace and love potential. Since I think simple is the best wisdom, I offer three simple tips to have full life experiences.

1

Stay awake. Practice

being present and fully tune into the people or activities that you face rather than mindlessly going through the motions. In other words, get out of automatic mode.

2

Create space for you. If you are always in

service to others and you are not filling your own joy tank, you are depleting your ability to not only enjoy life at it’s best, but those around you get a watered down version of you.

3

Practice Gratitude.

When you are frequently and deeply feeling grateful, everything that felt off or not right in your life takes a back seat to all that is perfect and beautiful. Since we are clearly better functioning humans when we live with a focus on JOY and LOVE, it makes sense to amp up our cylinders so that our near life experiences turn into full life experiences. I’m up for more of that....how about you?

A

s the fall season quickly approaches and daylight grows shorter there’s a breezy, crisp chill in the air. Suddenly without notice, we feel the seasonal change unfolding more rapidly than we expected. Depending on your location it can be faster or slower but CHANGE is in the air none-the-less. Now it’s October and the yearly routines are off and running. October also brings us to “all hallows eve” or Halloween which is quickly approaching. This is a fun time in the fall season that excites children to live out their superhero for princess fantasies with great pleasure while keeping their Dentists happy too! For many, it’s a time of year to reflect on those who have passed. Historically it’s widely believed that the veil between life and death is thinner at this time of year. Age-old folklore for many nations and even religions has christened Nov. 1st is ALL SOULS DAY or Day of the Dead in many cultures worldwide. For many, death doesn’t stop us from being haunted by our own ancestors even those long dead and gone. My specialty of Constellation ancestral healing is bringing closure to the living while healing grief eydisauthenticliving.com 89

to have a better life and better health now. It isn’t so much that the dead still haunt so much as the unresolved grief that accompanies it. I often find that it’s the lack of closure that causes the most pain around death and loss. This grief whether it be a family member or a friend that lives on in us, one thing I know for sure:

“Death by definition will always have the upper hand.” As we know “death” seems to be something everyone fears. It may be the lack of control or our sense of powerlessness of a force that’s truly bigger than life. “Death” in and of it’s self seems to fit the bill. I find comfort and refuge with a larger view that “death” is really the rebirth back into spirit. One thing I do

90 | Eydis Magazine

know is that our consciousness lives on long after we depart this physical realm. Healers, shamans, psychics, and mediums access these hidden realms easier than most of us. They too can help us reconnect to those who dearly departed. For many, death grief and loss always sting as it can take years to recover as well. Many baby boomers are now losing their parents and of course, we can also lose many others along the way from siblings to friends and children too. The key to resolving grief either recent or ancestral is to take your time and being gentle with yourself. Also show great care and sympathy for those in your circles suffering as well. It takes its own time and one thing I do know is life goes on in spite of the shock over tragic or unexpected losses that affect us greatly from our day-to-day life. Even when a “death” is

expected or seen as a great relief it is still shocking to many.

“Time, care and sharing heals deep grief” I’m an expert Constellation healing facilitator specializing in transforming emotional baggage from our collective ancestral field. I often find the consequences of unexpressed grief of any kind either past, present or in our ancestral history can lead to deep emotional problems in our present life. Many people often suffer from depression to addiction or alcoholism and even chronic illness from unresolved grief. These powerful emotions or even our own powerlessness can lead to “dis-ease” if grief isn’t processed or released in a timely manner. Most find it difficult to do this no less model it for others. It’s better to address grief and loss sooner than later as sadness can eat away at you with a shoulda, coulda, woulda tinged with an endless guilt that doesn’t ever seem to go away. Death may take many away from us but our love lives on for them regardless. We can find solace in feeling an eternal love that most times never dies. Death, grief, and loss is all part and parcel of the continuum of life as everyone sooner or later has to face their own dance with death our own or others at some point in time.

Here are some antidotes to grief:

u Share your sadness over any loss with someone close to you at the time of the event.

u Do not postpone your feelings unless it is necessary from shock or an untimely departure.

u Take as much time as you need as grieving can be a long process.

u Be gentle with yourself and try not to blame or shame yourself or others over their behaviors connected to their way of grieving.

u Allow others to process their grief in their own way. A warm hug can go a long way. Experiencing grief and loss are part of our growth and maturation as adults. Always remember, “We all come from a long line of dead people.” Life is shared and gifted to us by our ancestors who carried the same pains as we before they passed on. When we heal and process “grief” for ourselves we also transform it for all those in the past and the present as well as the future. Every human being and even many different species of animals share similar reactions in kind. Everyone has their own date with destiny and their fate for each incarnation, as we all are essentially spiritual beings having a human experience. The situations and circumstances may vary or be

different but the commonality of our tender, human emotions connects us all. GENERATIONS They gave We receive They die We grieve Life goes on, Life goes on We give They receive We die They grieve Life goes on, Life goes on The Beginning is the End or is the End the Beginning?

Gary Stuart, Author, Constellation Facilitator, Teacher, Lecturer, has been documenting his healing experiences over the past several decades. YOUR MONEY MANIFESTO

WHAT IS YOUR BELIEF AROUND MONEY? by Ellen Rogin, CPA, CFP®

W

hat do you believe is true about money? What you think and say about your money has a huge impact on what shows up in your life. Your thoughts about money are the filter through which all of your 94 | Eydis Magazine

financial actions and decisions are made. If you believe that it’s really difficult to manage money, or that you don’t have the skills to do so, you’re likely to struggle with your

finances. Even if you are great at bringing money in, you’ll likely experience stress around dealing with financial issues. On the other hand, if you believe that it’s easy to make financial decisions or even that it’s easy to learn to

One way to start to identify your money beliefs is to consider your money messages as a child. What is your earliest memory about money? How was money dealt with in your home? Was it talked about? Fought over? Never discussed? Did you think you had a lot and really didn’t? Did you think you had no money and really did? How might these early dealings with money be affecting you today? Awareness of these issues is a great way to start to build on beliefs that are supportive and replace ones that are less than excellent. If you could start from scratch and create an entirely new set of money beliefs that helped you to build the financial life you desire, what would they be? Perhaps you’d include beliefs similar to:

make good financial designs, chances are you’ll find supportive ways to handle your financial situation. Where do these beliefs come from? Dr. Bruce Lipton says that many of our subconscious

beliefs are formed from conception through age seven. These subconscious beliefs are playing in the background as you are making decisions about money and often without you even being aware they are there.

Money flows easily and effortlessly to me.

I am a good steward of my money.

I use money to affect positive change in the world.

Managing my finances is fun and easy.

People are honest when it comes to money. eydisauthenticliving.com 95

I make wise financial decisions.

I will always be financially okay.

I easily learn what I need to about money.

Consider creating a Money Manifesto: a statement of what you truly believe when it comes to money and prosperity. It’s okay to add ideas that you are working toward believing … ideas you don’t quite believe just yet but concepts that will grow your prosperity. 96 | Eydis Magazine

I recently created a money manifesto for my financial advisory business. To start this process, I wrote in my journal about what my belief was when it comes to money. I focused my attention on how, in an ideal world, money would function for me and my clients. Next, I shared these ideas with my team and then my coach. We took our time with this process to make sure the manifesto covered the concepts that represent our views and ideals.

Once we got our ideas on paper we edited them further and when they were just right… we had them put into a graphic. We’ve put this image onto a canvas and it is now hanging in our offices to greet us each day. WHAT’S IN A LABEL?

A QUICK BUYER’S GUIDE by Liz Bull

O

ne of my oldest, dearest friends is an avid (and fast!) reader. She can devour a hefty book in an evening. And, she will literally read anything that’s handy.... including things like cereal boxes....just for giggles. While reading cereal boxes

100 | Eydis Magazine

to read the bottom part- the Ingredients - FIRST! The Ingredients list on a food label reveals what is actually in your food. The ingredients are listed in order of quantity. This means that the first ingredient on the list is the most prevalent in the product, while the last ingredient is the least represented. This is where it gets interesting. Just because there is a small amount of something does NOT mean that it isn’t harmful. Reading Ingredients lists will help you understand what you are eating and in what proportion. They help you decide whether or not to eat them at all.

may not be your idea of entertainment, I suggest that learning how to read food labels is a vital and necessary life skill... and a key to maintaining your health, avoiding illness and, yes, losing weight. Reading labels is critical to learning about the food you are putting in your mouth. And, labels can be tricky and misleading! LOW FAT often

means HIGH SUGAR. There can be a huge discrepancy between the information on the front label (with the colorful and enticing brand, photo, etc) and the nitty-gritty information on the back... on the Ingredients list (usually in small print way down at the bottom). Do not make the mistake of looking only at the top part of the Nutrition Factsthe part with the calories.... where most people stop. Learn

Let’s compare two crackers. Triscuit (Rye) lists whole grain wheat as its first ingredient and vegetable oil and whole grain rye next, then caraway seeds and sea salt. Lance Toast Chee Peanut Butter lists enriched flour, then peanuts, vegetable oil, dextrose, sugar, salt and nine (9) other ingredientsincluding artificial color (Yellow 6) and corn syrup. Foods that give the impression of “healthy” and “natural” ... like granola bars... can be loaded with sugar. Here’s an example of the Ingredients list for a popular brand of sweet and salty nut granola bars: Roasted Peanuts, Corn Syrup, Whole Grain Oats, Sugar, Palm Kernel Oil, Rice Flour, Fructose, ... and Tapioca Syrup....and Honey. eydisauthenticliving.com 101

Reading labels isn’t always easy. Often the ingredient lists are long. They contain words that would stump spelling bee contestants.... words that you can’t easily pronounce. What can you do? Here are three easy ways to identify healthy food:

1

Look for food as close to its whole state as possible. A whole food has only one ingredient – that food. If I see more than six ingredients on a label, I put the food back. In truth, I prefer to see fewer. Examples: Beets, Water, Salt. OR Artichoke Hearts, Water, Salt, Citric Acid and Ascorbic Acid. OR Tomato paste, Citric Acid. Avoid canned fruit. It

102 | Eydis Magazine

tends to either have corn syrup or sucralose (Splenda- now linked to cancer). Buy fresh or frozen instead.

2

If you do not recognize an ingredient, put the food back. Healthy, real food should be immediately recognizable. If the Ingredients list reads like a science experiment, it most likely is. There is actually a science of flavoring, designed to make processed foods more appealing and even addictive. If the list has MSG (Monosodium Glutamate), reject it. MSG promotes obesity, inhibits growth hormones and is at the root of many other ailments.

There are over forty sneaky names for MSG. Worse, a product labeled “No MSG” may still have MSG or free glutamic acid as a result of protein processing, as long as pure MSG was not added. The truth is, MSG is found in just about every highly processed foodeven things like veggie burgers and other “health foods”. If Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Textured Vegetable Protein or Yeast Extract are on the label, put the package back.

3

Beware of sugar’s many aliases. If “high fructose corn syrup” is on the Ingredients list, put the item back. Almost every processed

food contains high fructose corn syrup . It is even in Campbell’s vegetable soup. Unfortunately, it provides zero nutrients for the body and promotes weight gain. And pay attention! Some foods now list “corn syrup” as an ingredient and have dropped the “high fructose” part. Often, tapioca syrup is substituted for corn syrup. Anything with “ose” is a sugar: dextrose, sucrose, lactose, fructose. No doubt about it, we love sweets and sugar. But how much is too much? The recommended daily limit for sugars is 25 grams for women...a bit higher for men. Keep in mind that this is actually quite a lot of sugar. There are four (4) grams in a teaspoon...so this is nearly seven teaspoons of sugar. This is where reading the top part of the label Nutritional Facts - is useful. Back to the granola bar example... one bar contains 9

g (grams) of sugars and 160 calories. Contrast this to a cup of fresh strawberries (with naturally occurring fructose and fiber to slow its absorption)7 grams/49 calories... or a plum...7 grams/30 calories. As a bonus, studies by Texas AgriLife Research suggest plums may help ward off metabolic syndrome — a name for a group of risk factors, of which belly fat is a predominant determinant, that increases the risk for obesity-related diseases including diabetes. The properties of this fruit come from powerful phenolic compounds that can modulate fat-gene expression. The next time you shop for groceries, put on your detective hat. Take a second to read the Ingredients list. If there are more than six ingredients, you can hardly pronounce the ingredients, and/or you see

high fructose corn syrup/MSG listed, put it back on the shelf. Head for the perimeter of the store, where the real food is. BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Inside and Out by Cindy Nunnery

104 | Eydis Magazine

W

e try and try and try and it just never happens! Those pounds just don’t go away, or they sneak back on. The skin looks good one day but the next – not! And let’s not ignore the energy roller coaster that seems more like a permanent ride. What we need to really understand is that no matter how hard we try on the outside, it is all still a reflection on what is happening inside our bodies. So what can you do? It’s pretty simple. I have put together 8 of the top tips to get you where you will glow on the outside and feel like a rock star inside! Are you ready? Follow these 8 Top Feel Good Nutrition-Based Tips and you will be on your way to feeling good and being happy inside & out. You will be amazed at how good you can feel so quickly. Enjoy! eydisauthenticliving.com 105

Tip 1

Tip 2

The simple combination of warm water with fresh lemon can boost up your immune system, alkalize (balance your PH) and give your digestion a kick-start. It also can improve skin health with the boost of Vitamin C, and hydrate you as well. Skin glows and radiates when hydrated and fed the vitamins it desires.

Morning is a very special time of day - it sets the pace for how the rest of the day will play out. This is especially true for breakfast. Studies have shown that people who skip breakfast or eat a high-glycemic breakfast are 80% more likely to eat more calories throughout the day compared to those who eat a healthy low-glycemic breakfast.

Use organic lemons if possible or be sure to thoroughly wash the outer skin even if you are not putting the lemon wedge in your water – pesticides and chemicals can get on your fingers.

If you begin each day by with a healthy breakfast of lean protein, good high fiber carbs, and some healthy fats, you’ll quickly find that your overall health and eating are greatly improved no matter what challenges the day brings. You’ll be happy inside and

Sip hot water with lemon every morning.

Want a bigger morning boost? Add a little cayenne pepper.

Eat a healthy breakfast within an hour of waking.

out. Choose healthy nutritious smoothies or eggs with veggies added and a small piece high fiber 100% whole grain bread (which is not the same as100% whole wheat). Check out my blog at www. poweredbynutrition.com for some great breakfast and smoothie recipes.

Tip 3

Stop Dieting and Skipping Meals Think about this… people ‘go-on’ a diet and by its very design, a diet is meant to ‘gooff’ of. What this simply means is that diets are not a longterm solution for weight loss or weight management. Studies show a majority of those who lose weight on a ‘diet’ eventually gain it all back. The diet industry is large and very, very good at marketing. If you notice, there isn’t a shortage of diets – The Low Carb Diet, The High Protein Diet, The Pink Diet, and so many more. Plus, they pretty much all include deprivation and taking out whole food groups (who wants to be deprived for the rest of their lives). Stop dieting- get healthy with a smart nutrition plan. Going along with diets is skipping meals. Skipping a meal (even if you are trying to save up calories for later) causes your body to go into starvation mode - this slows metabolism and starts a hormone dump that ultimately

106 | Eydis Magazine

leads to fat storage. Your body then kicks into high gear sending you out to eat anything you can get your hands on and a lot of it (we call this overeating or binge eating). Instead keep your blood sugar and metabolism stable by eating 5-6 healthy meals and snacks daily.

Tip 4

Have a plan for eating when dining out, going to parties, traveling and when you on the go. Having a plan when you are going out to eat or traveling is vital. If you don’t chances are you will eat more than you need to. If you skip lunch because you know you are eating out for dinner, we know what happens (see Tip 3). When you get to your dinner table, you will polish off that basket of bread before you know it plus your whole dinner - you can’t help it. Eat healthy small meals throughout the day and when you are choosing at the restaurant, choose the healthiest freshest low-carb/sugar options. Bring healthy snacks with you if you can or stop at the health food store when you get there and pick some up so you have them in your hotel room. Eating well and planning in advance for when it may be more challenging, will provide you the ultimate support.

Tip 5

Come on let’s move-it, move-it We all know that exercise is so important to our health and wellbeing. It helps us manage stress, keeps us feeling good and looking younger, improves our ability to recover from illness and even releases “happy hormones”. Exercise is also one of the greatest anti-depressants. Find movement and exercise you love to do and you will do it more often. Walk. Run. Dance. Yoga. Hike. Zumba. Be sure to build in both muscle and cardio because too much of one thing isn’t good even with exercise. This tip is part of what we call Primary Foods and I included it with the nutrition tips because of its importance to our health and effect on our body. There are of course other Primary Foods like calming your life and minimizing stress, nourishing

your soul and doing what you’re passionate about.

Tip 6

Learn how to make a nutritious and delicious smoothie A power green smoothie is a great breakfast option and a nutritious meal on the go – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Healthy green smoothies are simply blended superfoods. You can create just about any flavor you want – they’re a nutrient dense meal or snack you just can’t beat (I have one every day). Start your morning off with a burst of energy (remember Tip 2) and it can also help you slim down. Plus, with all the great ingredients, your complexion will be glowing like never before. NOTE: An all-fruit smoothie is not what I am talking about here. They lack balanced ingredients and are higher in fat, calories & sugar. eydisauthenticliving.com 107

• Add fresh lemon or lime juice to power-up it up and give it a burst.

Tip 8

Take a good quality multi-vitamin, probiotic and fish oil. Everyday.

Tip 7

Drink Thou H2O Water. We can’t live without it. It is good for our heart, skin, gives us energy, it helps with digestion + digestive issues and can take away the hungry feeling. Our bodies are more water than anything else so we need to keep the tank filled. Here are some simple water tips: • Drink the first glass of H2O within 15-20 minutes of waking and before any other morning beverage like coffee or tea so you hydrate your body first. • Spread out drinking your daily water - drink a glass between meal and snack in midmorning and midafternoon. • Limit water with meals to 3-4 oz. • Drink a glass 30 minutes prior to a meal. 108 | Eydis Magazine

If you are looking for the simplest and easiest thing you can do to improve your health – it is to take these three supplements. Not only is it like “insurance” against nutrient deficiencies, it is also the way to Future Proof Your Health™. A high-quality multi-vitamin feeds your cells the micronutrients (a.k.a. vitamins, minerals and antioxidants) they need to keep your heart healthy & working well, your skin fresh, glowing & renewed, your muscles strong and working, and your all-important digestive system working like a charm. A pure fish oil supplement of the essential omega-3 fatty acids feeds your brain, hair, skin, and benefits your heart, joints, eye and bone health. Did you know that our bodies are not able to make these fatty acids? They are also very important to cell membrane health and this is where the absorption of all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants occurs. The probiotic is essential to your digestive health and immune health; it can also help with acne and make your skin glow. Gut health is so important to our wellbeing and how we feel – taking care of it is an absolute - the health of your gut affects every single aspect of your health.

Bottom line, when you take care of your cells, your cells will take care of your body – it is their ultimate job after all. Forget the cheaply made stuff and that you can get 500 pills in a bottle for a very low price and don’t buy at the same place you can buy tires for your car. Be sure they have a potency guarantee and are the highest quality. Remember we don’t get a gold star just for swallowing the pill— it has to work, too. And even if your diet is already good, you should still take some. If you need help, I teach you more about what you can be eating and doing to give you the best chance for optimal health and wellbeing – just reach out and contact me or connect with me on social media. After all, you need health, vitality, energy and your body on your side so you can do those wonderful and awesome things you want to do. Here’s to you!

PUMPKIN AND

Spice

by Annabel Cohen

I

t’s fall and everywhere you go, you see “pumpkin spice” this and “pumpkin spice” that. From coffee to donuts to air fresheners to whatever, when the season’s change, so does the obsession with pumpkin spice. The problem with this is that most of these foods and 112 | Eydis Magazine

things actually have neither pumpkin or real spice and are often artificially colored and flavored. Still, pumpkin spice is not a bad idea. Especially when the giant orange orbs are everywhere Those giant pumpkins, the type

you carve into jack-o’-lanterns, are certainly edible but are not the best eating kind (except for the seeds). The smaller varieties are often sweeter, softer and more luxuriously “pumpkin” flavored. They are both light and rich, tender and creamy. Often called “sugar” pumpkins, each

small pumpkin will yield 1-2 cups of pureed flesh. And here’s a way to yield puree. Preheat oven to 350˚. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment . Cut the tops off each sugar pumpkin. Cut in half through lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds

and strings. Brush the flesh with oil and place face down on the prepared baking sheet. Prick the skin several times with a fork and bake for about an hour or until tender or a sharp knife pierces the skin easily. Remove from oven and cool before peeling and pureeing.

If preparing homemade puree isn’t right for you, canned pumpkin works just as well. By the way, all the recipes below work with most any hard squash with the exception of spaghetti squash.
