Letters from the editor The artistic value in Photography here is certainly a struggle to compare the work of a photographer with that of a painter or sculptor. It also might be difficult to understand the artistic value of a photo, a medium which can be made nearly identical copies of. And last but not least, since digital photography became the norm, there is a great belief that everyone can be a photographer. Moreover! You don’t even need a DSLR or pocket camera to take photos nowadays. But despite all this, I truly believe, that photography can be seen as art, even today, where most mobile devices can take better images (in image quality) than some digital cameras could and that’s not long ago. But anyway, what a lot of people do not realize is that many photographers see art as a form of influence. You can see the influence of art, like painting for example in some landscape, portraits or even architecture photographs. The sort of photography I consider as art is the kind that has clear indication of a careful arrangement. This, in my opinion, is also applicable for street photography, where people often claim that one just have to “snap” a scene on street. I truly believe that street photography is often even more difficult to compose as so many things are random and only captureable for a split second.
T
With this in mind, the team of EYE-Photo Magazine proudly presenting its first issue in 2018. You can expect an interesting mixture of different and fascinating photographs and photographers. Bergina Leka, takes us on a journey in vivid street photography. Her art reaches out from pulsaing life to quite moments in urban life. Gautier Van Lieshout, our second
featured artist, connects portrait and high-fashion with fine art photography. In spite of his young age, he succeeds to create captivating images, appealing at the first glance. Ksenia Dolgorukova, our next artist, captures atmospheric and elfish portraits and concept photographs. Michal Magdziak, who contributes the cover photos, is presenting his latest project “Harlequine”. The harlequin make up and the puppet-like arranged models building a bridge between fine art and expressive dance. Saar Avigour, our next artist, is hunting the streets of TelAviv, always on the edge, capturing the vivid street life in this vibrant city. Our last featured artist, Sergio Boletti, is connecting different types of photography, in his own style; his portfolio is a vibrant mixture between high contrast portraits, landscapes, macros and many more. We continue our cooperation with John Hughes and his street photography group on Facebook, “no rules street photography” and presenting the outcome of their weekly selection, a mixture of high class contemporary street photographs. Traditionally this issue will be finalized by presenting our “EYE-Catching Moments” a mix of handpicked quality photographs, selected by our online editors, Helena Costa and Thomas Füngerlings from our Facebook photo group. We wish you a pleasant reading and look forward to an eventful and exciting new year!
Yours, Stefan Cimer Founder and Managing Editor

I
fell in love with photography when I was 17 during my trip to Germany. At that time I was more focused on photographing my holidays and moments of my life. It was during my years at university that my quest changed.
Now, an important part of my photography is focused on the concept of human loneliness in the non places.
I present this concept symbolically through isolated figures, turned away, blurred or camouflaged in the urban landscape. This perception is very much influenced by my studies in sociology, most importantly from the theories about super modernity.

rom the moment I took my first photo shots, I have been drawn to women in particular. I already had in mind the name of some of the greatest photographers such as Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton or Jean-François Jonvelle. Growing up, I was always surrounded by women. This is the reason why I wanted to show who and what they were. They are strong, full of energy and show a spirit which is impressive, obvious and unbeatable.
“Although I’m eighteen, I’m a photographer since two years. It took me a year of selfteaching in the main photo techniques before I could start working on my personal projects. The main thing I look for when shooting and also in the final pictures is to create such a close intimacy that all those qualities are brought to light. I have to be as aesthetic and neat as possible and the quality of my photos is one of my main priorities. That’s the reason why I need to know who the person in front of my camera is. I try to answer all of these questions while shooting in order to create the most perfect image of the woman I have in front of me or, at least, get the closest I can. Website:

ike many photographers, I have been feeling passion for photography since childhood. I grabbed my father’s camera and took photos of everything around me. Nature, animals, sunrise, sunset, and old buildings inspired me. When I grew up, I found out that every person is a world but not everyone knows about it and I’d like to help people to understand it.
My photographic projects are my way to show people different sides of their souls. “Beauty is not in the Face; Beauty is a light in the Heart.” I’d like to work with every model and show them that they are magnificent while they are smiling, while they are crying, dancing and so on, every mood or behavior are essential for me. My way as a professional photographer started with my first teacher Sergey Piskarev. He made a lot for me - taught me things that are connected with composition, light, and he also supported my endeavors. I accomplished modelling school to feel as models do. The best way to help somebody is to be in her (or his) shoes. For now I work in a few model agencies with girls of different ages, participate in exhibitions and workshops. My big dream is to travel around the world to know foreigners’ thoughts and explore their culture - for now it is a mysterious universe for me that I would like to discover.

Departing from the formalism in commercial photography and realism of press coverage, Saar roams Tel-Aviv streets, recording on his cameras own little stories he finds within the mundane, where the street is stage, its inhabitants are actors, and photographer is the director. His street photo body of work is mostly monochromatic. Omitting by intention any unnecessary layer such as color, Saar focuses mainly on the human interaction with urban environment. Saar counts with the founders of Israeli Street Photographers Collective – URBANICA. His works were exhibited in various galleries and shows in Israel, and sold occasionally to institutions and private collectors.

Sergio Boletti
Photoreview
I
am Sergio Boletti a passionate Italian photographer for around 30 years. I am convinced that it is not the latest electronic discovery that captures good images but that what is photographed is the reflection of what is inside. I love the adrenaline when you try to discover immortal unknown landscapes, human or animal subjects. I try to avoid using the camera as a filter to the world, while keeping great respect for any environment and subject I’m going to take. I especially like to look for my subjects in nature, the air that breathes in the morning soon excites me, as well as finding the subjects that are awakening and maybe even covered with dew. All this gives me joy to live a peaceful and free contact with the world.
The countries where I have photographed are Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, each of which has different characteristics but all offer great opportunities to immerse themselves in nature.

NO RULES STREET PHOTOGRAPHY photo by:
Milan Stanic
NO RULES STREET PHOTOGRAPHY Street photography must not be subject to any rules; at least that is the opinion of dynamic street photographer and Facebook photo group “no rules street photography founder John Hughes. Together with a few photo enthusiasts, the award-winning photographer founded the photography group, always in search of the ultimate street capture. From now on, the weekly nominated photos will appear as a small retrospective in our magazine, because, like John Hughes, we likewise are interested in tracing the trends and spirit of street photography.
