Eye Gallery is The Californianâs annual celebration of local visual artists. Along with The Bakersfield Museum of Art, our partner, we asked 14 artists to interpret the theme âClose to Home.â We will publish their work, and short biographies of each, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sept. 9, when the museum will host a reception in their honor.

Beitzell says this portrait, called âBark,â is one of her favorites and always makes her smile.
