Meet Lily, a pretty 1 year old DSH cat. This sweet girl enjoys a nice soft kitty bed with a blanket over it to hide and sleep. She knows her name, Lily, and will talk to visitors at her cage. Lily loves head scratches, but isn’t fond of being picked up and held. This sweetie also loves playing with cat toys. She would be best with adults.
Lily’s adoption fee is $60.00
this includes first shots, worming, and sterilization. Anyone interested in adopting Lily, please go to heberspringshumanesociety.com and complete an adoption application. A volunteer will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.
Pretty and Petite Gwen is a 1 year old miniature Foxhound brought to the shelter as a stray. Gwen is very shy around people and learning to trust humans in her foster home. She wants to be part of a family badly, but just doesn’t have the confidence yet to join in with family activities, instead she watches from a distance. She loves running and playing with other dogs and needs to be in a home with other dogs. If you want a rewarding challenge to transform a shy sweetheart into a confident sweetie, pick Gwen. She needs you!
Gwen’s adoption fee is $100.00 and this includes sterilization, shots, and worming with an optional microchipping and registration for an additional $20.00. We have a dog park to check compatibility with existing dogs. Fill out an adoption application at heberspringshumanesociety.com If your application is approved, a volunteer will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.

Here we are, looking the Holidays right in the eye! I can hardly believe it, how fast the months go by!
The older we get the more I see it speeding up, and the more I’d like it slow down!
While I do enjoy the hustle and bustle of rushing about town and picking just the right gift for family members and friends, I want to make sure I remember to enjoy the small stuff that happens during that time, like hot chocolate with the grand children and the decorating process itself, the family gathered around and the fabulous meals we enjoy together!
Enjoy your month with Thanksgiving and take some snapshots of the small events that will surely fly by! - Gina Slagley

Thomas began by playing the local tag match with the local Mossy Bluff Disc Golf Club, “It is mainly adults, but there are a couple of juniors that will play sometimes.” His hours of practice earned him 2nd place at the Junior World Disc Golf Championship for the MJ12 division in July of this year. He shared, “I also won the Arkansas State Amateur Championship this past summer.” His mom, Kati, added, “At age 11 he was the youngest to ever win this championship. He played at the highest amateur division MA1 and was one of the few juniors there, so he was mainly competing against adults.”
Thomas enjoys playing in all the tournaments, “I love being around other people that love disc golf as much as I do. There are not a lot of people that play disc golf that are my age in this area, so it is
Disc Golf: noun - A game in which a concave plastic disc is thrown into each of a series of metal baskets situated on an outdoor course, the object being to complete the course using the fewest possible throws.
Local Heber Springs Middle School Student, Thomas Rouse, is an energetic 12 year old who is working his way up through the ranks of Disc Golf champions. He credits his dad for setting his course, “My dad played a lot so I had stacks of discs and baskets always available around the house. He took me to the Mossy Bluff course when I was little and that’s where it started. I would throw for hours trying

Thomas’s persistence has paid off and he is now proudly sponsored by Dynamic Discs. Thomas shared, “Dynamic Discs is the company that sponsors the Pro disc golfer, Ricky Wysocki.” Wysocki is a professional disc golfer based in Fort Mill, South Carolina who turned pro in 2010. He is a 2 time PDGA – World Champion and is considered one the best players in the world. As of May of this year he is rated the second highest player in the world behind Paul McBeth. Wysocki signed a 4 year / 4 million dollar contract with Dynamic Discs in January of this year.
Dynamic Discs is a company born out of the desire for owner, Jeremy Rusco, to find a way to pay for his new found interest in disc golf when he was a student at Emporia State University well over a decade ago. In the years that have passed since his first home dyed disc began selling on EBay the company has grown
exponentially. Out growing minivans, trucks, an attic and three basements the company made the move to their current location at 912 Commercial Street, Emporia, Kansas in 2011. Since then the company has continued to grow and expand at an extremely fast pace. They began and continue to sponsor tournaments, players and even found time to create their own line of discs. Today, Dynamic Discs serves as home to nearly 50 employees between the retail store and Dynamic Distribution. They have over 100 sponsored players and a vast array of disc golf gear. They are constantly working to help players become better disc golfers through their social media presence, YouTube videos, and educational programs.
So, as you can see Thomas is in good company with his Dynamic Discs sponsorship. Thomas is also sponsored by Persimmon Ridge Resort in Greenbrier, “It has one of the top disc golf courses in the country.” Persimmon Ridge

is ranked 12 in World’s Best Disc Golf courses and is located at #1 Fairway Drive in Greenbrier. Their expansive and intricate course was exclusively designed by Matt Loyd of Dynamic Discs. The Persimmon Ridge courses invite you to get in touch with your inner champion, and Thomas has done just that.
When asked what advice he would give another young person interested in the sport of disc golf he offered, “Practice is everything.”
Thomas is the son of Jamie and Kati Rouse, owners of Rouse Fly Fishing, an award winning Orvis endorsed outfitter. He has an older sister, Allie. The family shares their home with 3 rescue dogs and 1 cat. When not playing disc golf Thomas enjoys playing soccer for United with Coach Tate and he also enjoys being outside playing with his dogs.

Notes from the Clearing
Joey ThomasAnd, as if it were spoken by the very Universe, the lightening struck. The boy didn’t hold any certainty that he had commanded it, but it felt as if there were the slightest possibility; that this one time he was given validation for his potential. He tried again and again, with the arrogance that he wished to drop and leave behind, but the Universe had more lessons to teach; such as modesty, patience, hope, and acceptance in the not knowing. Conducting lightening, even once, even with no proof or witnesses to hold him in reverence, even for a moment, still allowed him the hope that he could be anything; that he could one day know more; one day know everything worth knowing.
