It’s time to say
Good Bye
The Krumrichs Jewerlers business has been in the family for generations. Sadly it is time for that family tradition to come to an end. After more than 100 years in business, and 58 years of serving the jewelry needs of the Waukesha community, Krumrichs Jewlers is preparing to close. Dick and Donna Krumrich-Manke have decided to celebrate their impending retirement and business closing with savings of 30-70% off everything. Many items will be sold at or below cost. Everything must go! The Going out of Business Sale has started, so this is the time to buy that Diamond or jewelry item you have always wanted! Do you want to simply upgrade your Diamond? They can help with that as well! Donna would like to express her sincere appreciation for allowing her to be your Jeweler. The best gift she can offer to show her gratitude, is the lowest possible price on everything in the store. She will even offer lay-away for Christmas Eve pick-up. For anyone who stops in during this sale, you can register to win 1 carat twin diamond earrings (valued at $3,000). The winner will be drawn at noon on December 24, 2016, Krumrichs last day open. At Home with Country Life... Inspiring ways to bring country style into your home.
Frosted Christmas The magic of the holiday season is captured in the glitter of this frosted winter arrangement, created with everlasting greens and florals. Monches Farm’s floral designer Sue Morgan has been creating floral art for over 25 years. She would be happy to work with you to create a custom piece for your home using your design colors and reflecting your personal style. Call her at Monches Farm at 262-966-2787 for a consultation. To create this piece Sue used (all materials are everlasting/artificial): Victorian style urn (8" tall x 9" wide) 1 block of dry floral foam 2 frosted white berry stems 5 white floral stems 1 frosted evergreen branch (cut into individual stems) 1 frosted ivy garland, cut into smaller sections 1 frosted cedar garland, cut into smaller sections 1 frosted nest containing three glittered eggs Angel Vine Moss Secure foam in vase with glue. Cut and glue an extra, smaller, piece of foam on top of the first (this is where the nest will rest). n Cover lower block of foam with moss n Glue nest on to elevated piece of foam. n Cut ivy and cedar garlands into sections and place them evenly throughout the foam block, creating outline of arrangement. Bend some of the branches over the edge of the urn to create a draping effect. n Cut berry stems and frosted evergreen branches and continue to fill in spaces in a balanced manner. n Glue in white floral stems. n Tuck Angel Vine loosely in among greens to create an airy, natural finishing touch. n n n

Bringing Time to Life since 1932 Your Grandmother, or mother might have had one or you probably have seen one of these Retro clocks in your lifetime someplace in your travels. Kit-Cat Clocks have been around more than 85 years, becoming an incredible part of American history with their Happy and catchy look. This part of Americana has been kept alive since the 1950s by keeping the same unchanged look since the 1950s. Kit-Cat Clocks have been American made since their inception and will not deviate from this history. The goal of the Kit-Cat makers is to keep an American Icon made in America. Without the Kit-Cat there may not have been any USA made clocks anywhere besides a few high end clock companies. Kit Cat’s demand for USA Made clock movements has made them accessible for other US clock companies. The history of the Kit-Cat clock goes back to 1932, during the height of The Great Depression. The clock was first invented in a small Oregon town by designer Earl Arnault (1904-1971). With his signature wagging tail, rolling eyes, and contagious smile, Kit-Cat inspired joy during one of Americas roughest patches. In the 1930s, the allied Clock company was founded in Portland, or to manufacture these uniquely animated pendulum clocks. The first models of Kit-Cat were made with metal but Allied Clock soon adapted the increasing popular method of plastic molding and moved to Seattle, Washington. The 1940s & 50s were decades of explosive growth for Kit-Cat’s popularity and marked the first (and last) changes in his design. The top Continued on page 41

Handy Holiday Hints Simple steps to prep for a delicious turkey dinner One of the most memorable moments at any holiday dinner is when a moist, delicious turkey is brought to the table. Everyone grabs their forks at the sight of a perfectly brown bird glistening with juicy flavor. Make sure your holiday meal is a special one by following these simple tips for making the perfect holiday dinner: Planning the Meal n Get your plans in writing, including your menu, how many people will attend, any special dietary needs of guests and what time you plan to serve the meal. n Buy the turkey early, and look for a bird with a pop-up timer in the breast, which ensures proper cooking time. Learn more at volkenterprises.com.
Thawing the Turkey n Thaw your turkey in the refrigerator for 24 hours per 5 pounds in weight. For example, a 20-pound bird takes four days to thaw. Thaw it faster by covering with cold water in the sink and changing the water every half hour per pound of turkey. n Don’t unwrap a frozen turkey before thawing. n Refrigerate the turkey as soon as it has thawed, or cook it immediately.
Preparing the Bird n Baste the turkey with extra-virgin olive oil, butter, margarine or wine. n For an unstuffed turkey, place a stalk or two of celery, seasonings, a cutup onion and a handful of parsley in the cavity to keep it moist. n If you stuff the turkey, pack the neck and cavity loosely with stuffing prepared just before you plan to cook the bird. n Heat oven to 325º F. Place turkey breast-side-up on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. n Lay a “tent” of foil loosely over the turkey to prevent over-browning. n The turkey is done when the meat thermometer is 180º F and the

Handy Holiday Hints stuffing is 165º F. If you don’t have a meat thermometer, look for the red stem to go up on the pop-up timer, press a thumb and forefinger into the thick part of the drumstick to see if it feels soft or wiggle a drumstick to see if it moves easily. n For easier carving, let the turkey stand at room temperature for at least 20 minutes. Preparing Homemade Rolls n Purchase Frozen Rhodes Ready to
Bake Rolls, which give you that original homemade taste with no preservatives. n Coat baking pan and large sheet of plastic wrap with nonstick cooking spray. Place frozen dough on the pan and cover with oiled plastic wrap so it won’t stick to the rolls as they rise. n Let rolls rise for 4-5 hours, until they double in size. Carefully remove the wrap. n While you are carving your turkey, put rolls in the oven at 350 F and bake 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. n Brush tops with butter or olive oil, if desired.

n Dinner rolls can also be used to create side dishes or desserts, such as this Butterscotch Bubble Loaf.
Don’t Forget the Add-Ons n Surprise your guests with something different from years prior, such as new recipes or add-ons. For example, if you serve salad add something new, such as olives, pearl onions, raisins, nuts or mandarin oranges. n Mashed potatoes are expected. For a flavor kick, try adding mustard, garlic or other flavors when mashing. n Add color to your favorite green vegetables by placing pimento or strips of steamed red bell on top. n Try an unconventional take on stuffing, such as making stuffin’ muffins in muffin tins or serving stuffing inside an empty green bell pepper. Serving a Sweet Treat n Watermelon is a source of antioxidants and vitamins, and has more lycopene than any other raw fruit or vegetable. n You can also opt to serve a sweet treat with your turkey with this recipe for Watermelon Cranberry Sauce. Planning for Leftovers n After two hours at room temperature, cooked food should be stored in the refrigerator. n If possible, carve the entire turkey before the meal and store the extras as soon as everyone has a plate. n There are many great recipes that feature leftover turkey, such as stir-fry with vegetables, wraps, tacos, burritos and, of course, good, old-fashioned turkey sandwiches. To help with planning and preparation, and for more delicious recipe ideas for your holiday gathering, visit culinary. net. To learn more about food promotion and view a photo gallery of classic celebrities, such as Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Abbott and Costello, Dinah Shore and others, with turkey and other foods, visit adventuresinpr.com. n

paws and the Kit-Cats dapper bow tie were added. Due to his popularity, it was not long before Kit-Cat became synonymous with the 1950s in America. In 1962, Allied Clock Company moved production to Southern California and renamed itself the California Clock Company. In 1882, the owner convinced Ohio native and entrepreneur, Woody Young to take over as President/Owner and keep Kit-Cat going strong into the new Millennium. In the late 1980s the American legacy of Kit-Cat was almost lost! In the span of a few years, American motor manufacturing was almost exclusively relocated to Asia, leaving Kit-Cat without a US motor supplier. A battery motor powerful enough to move Kit-Cat’s exclusive “one second” animation had yet to be invented. With no other alternative, the California Clock Company was driven to develop a new battery technology. In the 1990s the first Limited color Edition Kit-Cats began to be manufactured, including the first 3/4 size Kitty Cat which was introduced in 1996. It was not long
before Lady Kit-Cat first burst into the scene in 2001, swapping out the bow tie for pearls and eyelashes. 2012 marked Kit-Cats 80th Anniversary, 50 years of manufacturing all of their clocks in California, and 30 years as Woody Young as President. To celebrate this milestone, Kit-Cat sponsored the only 100% US grown commercial in the 2012 Pasadena Rose Parade. In 2017, Kit-Cat will mark its 85th Anniversary and continues to prove that he is truly “timeless”. Kit-Cat Clocks are sold through stores in countries all around
the world. in fact. for the last 50 years, someone has purchased a Kit-Cat Clock every 3 minutes. These iconic clocks are a valuable piece of Americana that will brighten up your home or your office with their contagious smile. Kit- Cat Clocks are also the perfect “piece of our past” to give or receive as a gift this Holiday Season! They can be found at Hawkins Clock Center at 7301 West Greenfield Avenue, in Historic, Downtown West Allis, WI. Call 414-258-1148 for information about claiming your own Kit-Cat today! n
