Saying this is a museum quality piece is an understatement for this salesman sample. It was built in 1939 by LaPlante Choate. The patent issued was for the electronic blade. LaPlonte built implements and other things. This one was for an International HarvesterTd14 or Td18 crawler. This is a one of a kind piece that has every detail spot on. It includes the original transporting crate and manuals. It is located at Now & Then, where they always say, “You’ll Never Find it Again”which is so true with this unique find! How long have you been in business?
The Corner Mercantile opened in October 2017. We are entering our 6th year of business.
How did you get started?
We (Tom and Mary) have been friends for over 30 years. When this storefront, which is owned by Tom Boycks and Barry Luce, became available, Tom asked Mary if she would be interested in opening a shop following her retirement from teaching in the Cambridge School District. With Tom’s retail background and Mary’s love of antiques, they joined forces and curated a shop with a mix of new and antique, artisan and eclectic home décor and gifts.
What changes have you seen over the years open?
We’ve seen a surge in the return of small business. Since the pandemic people have realized how important it is to support local and small shops. Small businesses can satisfy their shopping needs with unique and quality products, along with excellent customer service. Our customers want us to be here.
What do you most love about your Industry?
We love that we can express ourselves creatively through our decorating. We tap into the senses visually through our displays, fragrant candles burning, a wide variety of music playing, and a neverending full candy dish for chocolate lovers! We love assisting our customers with their decorating or gift giving needs. We value the relationships and friendships we have built with our customers. Many have become dear friends over the years.
MASTER CONFECTIONERS FOR OVER 100 YEARS!
What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
Being a small business, our profit margins may not be like the big box or chain stores. We price fairly right from the start to avoid having too many items “on sale”.
What message would you most like to share with people?
When someone chooses to shop with us, we can guarantee the money they spend goes right back into the community through sponsorships, fundraisers, scholarships, schools, churches, and benefits. We believe in being active members in the community and love that this business keeps us connected to our community. It’s a win win
What would you like people to know about your business?
We value our customers wants and needs. We do our best to provide a place to find quality gifts, heirlooms, and home décor along with excellent customer service in a family friendly atmosphere. We love keeping in touch through social media.
What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
Our customers always comment on our window displays and shop vignettes. It makes them feel right at home. They recognize the detail we put into each display. That is the best compliment we can hear. We’ve even won a national window decorating contest one year sponsored by Bethany Lowe Designs! We love when customers return with family and friends and love when they are enjoying their visit with us. Its very satisfying to know they chose our shop to be part of their plans that day.
What are you most proud of?
We are proud of what we offer the community. We are family friendly and very welcoming to everyone who walks through our door. We are very tuned into our customers. We listen and learn from them and realize we continue to be in business because they value what we do.
How many employees/families work with you?
We have no employees. It is just us!
What are you most grateful for?
We are grateful that we continue to be very good friends. We think a lot alike when it comes to merchandising, buying, working, and have a strong respect for each other’s opinions. We truly enjoy working together. We couldn’t do it without each other.
Who/what can you credit your success?
Being of a mature age with life experience is what we attribute our success. We listen to our gut, take chances, and most importantly have fun! We treat our customers how we want to be treated. Having a prime renovated retail space in a historic corner building doesn’t hurt either!

Eco Evie
How long have you been in business?
We celebrated our 3 year anniversary this past fall. 2022
How did you get started?
Evie became really interested in animals and learning about endangered animals and facts about them when she was around 6-7 yrs old. She would ask for money for her birthdays to donate to the zoo, and at 9 years old asked if we could start a business to help raise money and awareness for endangered animals. I knew I needed to build a product that matched her mission, so I sourced the recycled fibers, fabric, and local manufacturing to make our 100% recycled water bottle shirts.
What changes have you seen over the years open?
We really launched just as a kids clothing line, and got such positive responses from everyone who saw it wanting adult sizes too! We launched our womens shirts about a year after our initial launch, and started offering mens/unisex hoodies last year. We keep happily expanding our line as we go!
What do you most Love about your Industry?
I worked in corporate retail for almost 10 years, and I produced a lot of clothing overseas. I love that with Eco Evie I was

able to reimagine what the retail “norm” has been and transform it into a totally US based business with minimal logistics and entirely sustainable materials. I’m excited about the future of the fashion industry because of the possibilities to make positive changes that create less environmental impact.
What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
Honestly, a lot! We really feel like we are changing people’s misconceptions about recycling, expectations of what a shirt made entirely from water bottles could possibly feel like (super soft, by the way!), and sharing the plight of animals most people have never heard of or even popular animals that people are not aware of their endangered status.
What message would you most like to share with people?
Evie clearly has her own why for starting this business, but my why is entirely different. See, Evie is autistic, and in starting this business with her I really wanted to show her and others that people with disabilities have a lot to offer, and they can really shine when we work with them to develop what they love into a career path. We don’t all have to be good at everything!
What would you like people to know about your business?
We really want to make sustainability fun and attainable for all ages, and it’s so much bigger than just a shirt. We hope to inspire people to take up sustainable practices in their homes and beyond, educate and raise awareness for endangered animals and generate change across generations to create a brighter future for everyone.

I hear a lot from people that they think I’m a great mom for starting a business for Evie. In all honesty, I’m a regular mom who wants to provide opportunities for my kid, and don’t we all do that? Maybe its not starting a business, but we all try our best with our kids. Also, a lot of parents of kids with a disability start businesses for their kids, it’s not unusual at all. But the reality of it is that many people with disabilities are overlooked in the workplace, and so parents create opportunities out of necessity. Of course, right now with Evie being 12, that seems far off, but I do know that this business is giving her some really valuable life skills to take into her future!
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of how Evie is really growing in this business. This has been a lovely confidence booster for her, as she has been able to be a part of fashion shows, interviews, and speaking engagements. Everyone has been so supportive of her, which means everything to us.
How many employees/Family work with you?
Its just me, Evie, and my mom Jeanne, who work on this business, but we couldn’t do it without my husband Bob, my youngest daughter Alma, and my dad Jim’s support and encouragement. Its just our little family business!
What are you most grateful for?
I am SO grateful for our customers, who believe in us and our mission. Our customers immediately become our friends, and we love hearing how they are spreading the word about Eco Evie to people they know!
Who/what can you credit your success?
Everyone! My family, our friends, our customers, and our allies championing our business each and every day!
Eco Evie Apparel is the creation of 12 year old Evie and her mom, Kelly. Evie wanted to start a business to raise money and awareness for endangered animals, and Kelly’s background in apparel production brought the idea to life! Together they make 100% recycled water bottle clothing for men, women, and kids.
Evie chooses the endangered animals that she wants to feature, and Kelly creates the artwork and design. Evie approves each design of course, and she also does much of the research on the different animals. Our recycled fibers and fabric are created in North Carolina, and our shirts are made just for us in our hometown of Milwaukee, so everything is done inside the US. We make small batches of our shirts, and we donate 10% of our profits to animal conservation programs.
To date, we have donated over $1,700 and we have recycled over 20,000 water bottles! ~
Earth Day is April 22. Celebrate by ordering an ecofriendly shirt today!

Amy Renee ’ s Kreative Touch
How long have you been in business?
Amy Renee’s Kreative Touch opened in Downtown West Allis, WI in September 2021. How did you get started?
Prior to opening a brick-and-mortar, I sold through various outlets, including a short stint at Antiques on Pierce in Milwaukee.
As a young child my favorite pastime was either playing dishes, or creating some type of art. It still is.
Collecting antiques began with furnishing and decorating my first home 40 years ago. Gosh, my first collectors’ item that I purchased was through Early American Life Magazine via mail order— cash on delivery (C.O.D). It was Dorothy Long Redware from Pennsylvania. A few pieces have survived the years.
What changes have you seen over the years open?
The industry is always evolving; however, most notably is that with Covid many new sellers have entered the online market. Instagram is a great showplace to share with the social community. Social Media in general continues to advance; however, I do think that the algorithms are limiting customers’ choices, and experience. Consumers are going back to purchasing in person and local. People are longing for nostalgia.
What do you most love about your Industry?
It’s a close network of friendly competitors who offer support, resources, guidance, and advice. It goes without saying, that having a love for antiques, an admiration for quality craftmanship, or an artistic expression, and being able to dabble in the creative really revs my engine. Then there’s this: the industry feeds my
PILGRIM ANTIQUE MALL
nerdy obsession for factoids. Meeting so many amazing people makes the day fly by. What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
There are many. One that stands out is that young people are not interested in, or do not appreciate antiquities. This is simply not true. My first-hand experience is that the younger generation is more sustainability conscience-recycle, upcycle is more than a trend; it’s a lifestyle. Growing up with fast fashion, fast food, and fast furniture, the younger generations appreciate quality craftmanship. (Joinery is in- cam lock nuts out.) They get excited about the stories behind a piece. It’s these stories and their own that make their home unique.
What message would you most like to share with people?
Purchase what you love and you cannot go wrong. Use your “good dishes” every day or at the very least more than those once in the blue moon occasions. Coffee or tea enjoyed from a beautiful cup is a great way to remind yourself that you are special. Every day.
What would you like people to know about your business?
The store is more of an antique-boutique.
In addition to antiques, candles, soap, plants are also available. Supporting local is important to me, therefore it’s not unusual to see contemporary or upcycled artwork from local artisans.
It’s my labor of love. I personally curate each item frequently from outside of the state and country. Ironstone transferware from the mid-19th and early 20th centuries are my soft spot. Selecting items with unique beauty that move me and in hopes that it moves the customer as well. It’s inspiring to work with a customer to provide direction juxtaposing their varied interests to create a look that tells their story.
What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
Repeating clientele and their referrals. Customers often remark how wonderful the store smells. I make my own candles and reed diffusers, so this makes my heart happy. Other feedback is that customers love how the styled uniques demonstrate how they may be used differently than intended. Many customers have remarked that it has a very homey feel.
It beams me to the moon when customers love the music, the dialogue, the personalized level-up service, for which they extend the compliment “You are so real.” “This store has the most amazing vibe!”
You know you’re on the right track when you’re hitting all the senses, favorably.
That’s what it’s all about.
What are you most proud of?
That I am doing it!
Seriously, 30 years ago I had this wild hare to open my own craft store with antiques. What I know now, that I didn’t know then: everything has its time.
Having had a long career in the financial sector prepared me well for the business and accounting aspect of this venture. (The thrill of the hunt is natural.) With a heavy emphasis on home décor with antiques and art, the business model isn’t the same, but it’s the right business model for me now.
How many employees/Family work with you?
My husband, John encouraged me to go fullin and has been so supportive with build-outs, heavy-lifting, “picking partner”, assisting with shop events, and being my sounding board. There’s so much. I really wouldn’t be this far ahead without his help. Several of our kids offer their help with staging, photography, and social media.
What are you most grateful for?
As it relates to my shop, being able to achieve my long-held dream. I am quite blessed to finally spend time creating for myself, and others. It is a work in progress to ultimately cultivate what I envision.
Who/what can you credit your success?
It truly does take a village. Aside from family, our friends have jumped in to helped during events. The city of West Allis and the Downtown West Allis Business Improvement District has been very supportive and generous with property improvement grants and promotional opportunities. The state of Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation by way of the Mainstreet Bounceback program really assisted with updating the storefront.
As mentioned before, repeating customers and their referrals are the life-blood of any business, without them, Amy Renee’s Kreative Touch would not survive. ~

JONES Market c
How long have you been in business?
Jones Dairy Farm started in Fort Atkinson, WI over 130 years ago. The Jones Market, our company store, originally opened over 85 years ago.
How did you get started?
The store was originally a local destination to sell fresh pork and Jones Dairy Farm products to the community. Then, it also became an outlet for the main Jones Dairy Farm processing plant to sell the “seconds”, or imperfect product.
What changes have you seen over the years open?
The company store opened over 85 years ago and has seen many changes through the generations. The most impactful change was a complete remodel and grand re-opening in 2016. The store grew to be 4 times larger, which allowed Jones to expand the deli case with exclusive products made in-house. In addition, we continue to offer our product seconds, along with Jones Dairy Farm retail and food service products. We also carry local, family-owned business products made from across the state of Wisconsin.
What do you most love about your Industry?
We love getting to talk to customers in-store and interact with them to make sure they are getting a product that they will love. We also love working with our restaurant customers who use our product and love it as much as we do!
What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
A common misconception about our business is that although we are named Jones Dairy Farm, we are not an operating dairy farm anymore. When the Jones family originally settled here, they started as a dairy farm. In the late 1800s when our founder, Milo C. Jones, got arthritis and could not do the physical labor that the family farm required, he began to make sausage and sell it under the Jones Dairy Farm name. They eventually sold the dairy, and the family chose to solely focus on continuing
production of pork. The name is a symbol of where we started, and it is what our loyal customers are familiar with and know best.
What message would you most like to share with people?
One message that has been a constant in our business for many years is that all our products are gluten free, and that we use simple ingredients. Our original sausage recipe only has three ingredients: pork, salt and spices. We use this recipe as a baseline for all of our sausage products, as we try to stay true to what our ancestors started!
What would you like people to know about your business?
Something that people may not know if they haven’t visited us before is that we serve lunch and have an ice cream parlor. We have a rotating lunch menu as the seasons change that is served each day that we’re open from 11a.m. – 2p.m. We also serve Cedar Crest Ice Cream in our ice cream parlor and have a walkup ice cream window from the bike trail in the spring and summer seasons.
What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
Our customers are always praising our exceptional customer service in store and over the phone. We are always looking to help you with any need you may have, whether that’s a product you are looking for or a question about an upcoming event! We also, of course, get complimented on our delicious bacon!
What are you most proud of?
We are proud of the events that we’ve been able to start and develop over the past six years, new and old. We try to have a mix of events throughout the year that are targeted at kids, adults or both! We are proud to see how far these events have come, and love seeing families come back year after year. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for one that might interest you!
How many employees/families work with you?
There are currently 13 employees here at the Jones Market, while the main Jones Dairy Farm office and processing plant employs over 400 workers.
What are you most grateful for?
We are most grateful to our community and surrounding area businesses that support our company store. We are also grateful for the many vendors that trust us to market and grow their business by selling their products in our store!
Who/what can you credit your success?
We credit our success to our Jones family ancestors who started this business and invented the sausage recipe that we still use today. Without that strong beginning, we would not be the business we are today that our community knows and loves.

Give Spring SaladsA Fresh Spin
With spring and warmer weather comes salad season, offering a perfect canvas for creating refreshing meals and appetizers centered around tasty greens, juicy tomatoes and crave-worthy dressings. Give your salads an update by avoiding the same tired mixes and instead create tasty meals fit for the season.
One easy way to up your salad game is by starting with quality ingredients like Fresh Express salad blends, NatureSweet Cherubs Tomatoes and Litehouse refrigerated salad dressings. These fresh, flavorful ingredients can be combined in a dish like this Chimichurri Chickpea Salad, a perfect way to go green this spring for nearly any occasion.
Part of the appeal of dishing up a homemade salad is the unlimited options you have at your fingertips to make the bowl of greens uniquely “yours.” For many, this means one thing: the more toppings,
the better. With grilled chicken, crispy bacon, tomatoes, ripe avocado, hard-boiled eggs, blue cheese and a bed of fresh lettuce, this classic Cobb Salad offers an ideal lunch or even a quick family meal.
Because both these recipes can be made in 20 minutes or less, they provide simple solutions when short on time. Plus, the fresh ingredients sum up everything spring meals are made of.
