Topics of ESS The Delegates will be allocated in 7 committees to discuss the following topics in the scope of the EYP School Session: 1.

COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT AND TOURISM (TRAN)

Cities play a crucial role as places of connectivity and innovations, but are also places where various economic and social problems are concentrated. The development of sustainable mobility and easy touristic accessibility is a key challenge for the cities of tomorrow. Which innovative solutions should be introduced and implemented to boost the process of capital city of Yerevan becoming a center of tourism?

2.

COMMITTEE ON CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS (AFCO)

In the light of the continually declining voter turnout in European and national elections: in an age wherein the world’s leading democracies are making a shift into the digital world, what should Armenia and Europe do to re-vitalize their democratic culture?

3.

COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS (AFET)

More than nine million Syrians have been forced to leave their homes in the last few years. Now, with ISIS advancing in both Syria and Iraq, the situation is getting worse. What actions should international community take in order to mitigate the current tension in Syria? What can be the role of the EU in the process of peacemaking?

4.

CIVIL LIBERTIES, JUSTICE AND HOME AFFAIRS(LIBE)

According to different sources the total number of Muslims in Europe in the year of 2013 amounted to 56 million people, thus accounting for 8% of the whole population within European borders. With the rising fear in the Western European countries (where most of the Muslim population is concentrated) that Muslims are not integrating into the European society, do not accept Western values and pose a threat to security Italy, Germany and Austria have started exercising the policy to limit building new mosques in their countries, while Switzerland is doing so directly with “Mosque Ban Act” adopted since 2010. What should the EU’s stance be on protecting the religious freedoms of its people while ensuring the security measures are in place. 5.

COMMITTEE ON INDUSTRY, RESEARCH AND ENERGY (ITRE)

The EU aims to get 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 to enable cutting greenhouse emissions and make it less dependent on imported energy. But on the other hand the stability of Europe’s electricity generation is at risk from the warped market structure caused by skyrocketing renewable energy subsidies which have led to unacceptably high utility bills for the ]residents and businesses, and even risk causing continent-wide blackouts. What trade-off the EU should come up with to address the current issue? 6.

COMMITTEE ON EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS (EMPL)

With budgets still tight and austerity measures in place, Europe's youth unemployment rate stands at 23.5 percent, with every 4th young European being unemployed. Taking into account that youth employment it’s the backbone of competitive economy and failure to ensure the latter may result in social tensions, the abovementioned issues have become very urgent in recent years for the EU and EaP. Thus, what should be the main pillars of the program to reverse the rising joblessness for the under 25’s in the EU and EaP countries?
