Cave Collection The work of Nature has always created amazing shapes, materials and colours stimulating our existence and sensibility. CAVE is a Rug Collection inspired by marbles and their own shades of colour. The uniqueness of the marble colour and grain is shifted from Marco Piva’s creative thrust into the preciousness of the Sahrai Milano Rug ‘s workmanship. The colours blend of handknotted wool and silk transforms the firmness of the marble element. This amazing metamorphosis has created a series of unique beautifully crafted Rugs in line with the latest aesthetic needs of the interior design world. The research process is based on the selection of designs drawn from Nature in collaboration with Antolini the Italian marble producer. A solid colour of marble is introduced as a disruptive element and becomes a graphic signature, an intervention intended as a breaking element within the natural landscape enhancing the Rug’s manufacture. There are eight chromatic families generating different expressive moods to use in diverse contemporary interiors with a palette full of nuances from neutral to decisive colours.

City of Light
In the exhibition White Architecture inside White in the City project (Pinacoteca di Brera, Salone del Mobile 2017), Marco Piva has designed for Helios Automazioni the sculpture City of Light, a further investigation into the ratio between matter and light in Marco Piva’s Architectural projects where Aluminium, Marble, and Light merge together. In a play between scales and volumes, various volumetric elements of different heights arise and grow vertically, simulating the architectural environment of hypothetical metropolis. The installation consists of 20 blocks of white polished marble, supported structures that uniformly disperse the light through the stone material. The base plate, which recalls the regular grid of an urban plan development, contains a system of LED projectors characterized by a frosted cold light.

My Light Years Inside one of the most beautiful monumental complexes of Milan, the famous Palazzo delle Stelline, in the atrium of the central courtyard, in occasion of the Design Week took place MY LIGHT YEARS by Marco Piva, an exhibition to show, through images and selected products, the theme of Light as an essential factor in the configuration of his Architectural, Interior and Industrial Design projects. Icons of Light, created by the architect’s inspiration over the years for some of the most representative companies, such as iGuzzini, Italamp, La Murrina, Vitrum and Zonca International, together with a selection of innovative solutions by the companies Forma Lighting and Solatube, show the infinite variations that light sources can take. In collaboration with: 5VIE Art + Design Partners: Casale del Giglio, City Design, Effeitalia, Forma Lighting, iGuzzini, Italamp, La Murrina, PPAN, Solatube, Vitrum, Zonca International.

Drone Collection
From the collaboration of Glamora and Marco Piva comes Drone: a collection that explores the potential of wallcoverings, not merely as decoration but as a powerful narrative element in spaces. Images from the natural or anthropised environment seen from above as from a hot-air balloon or Google Maps and further analysed, broken down and transformed into original graphical motifs, with a “wow factor both in residential and collective environments. The three motifs presented, in different chromatic possibilities, are: City, Desert, Ocean.

Conversation on Stone
Sinuosity and lightness come together in the installation “CONVERSATION ON STONE designed by Marco Piva for the company Helios Automazioni at Marmomacc 2016. The stone material is presented in an unusual duality, solid and dynamic, in a scenic area of encounter and reflection, characterized by robust yet lithe seats on which to meditate. Epigrams, considerations and thoughts are ideally imprinted on thin slabs of curved marble, depicted symbolically as sheets by the wind. The marble material shows its nature and at the same time becomes something else, hovering in space like the pages of a book yet to be written: an inspiration to start a conversation on the new possibilities offered by technology and the artisan wisdom, capable of shaping this material in ever new surprising forms.

TWO THIN METAL LAMINAS SEPARATE IN ORDER TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER CREATING A COLLECTION OF SELF SUPPORTING MIRRORS A thin lamina of polished steel is hidden behind the reflexes of what surrounds it, it shows itself thanks to the natural black metal, thanks to the corten, thanks to the brass leaf and thanks to the treated copper. The union of two valuable materials creates the function: the reflexing steel lamina is supported and is revealed by the other mertal, as an extension of itsel. A collection of objects revealing their identity through overlap and fold, amid hidden elements and visible elements reflecting the image of the observers in a strict correlation of emotions.

A COLLECTION OF CONCEPTUAL BRACELETS MADE OF BRASS, IRON AND ALLUMINIUM INSPIRED BY THE FIVE SENSES. A collection of conceptual bracelets made by De Castelli introduces into the world of perception, the skin becomes an instrument for taste sensetions. The bracelet, usually considered as an ornamental object, mainly involves the sense of sight as to the five senses, and only involves the sense touch only in a secondary manner. The decoration, which is inside the jewel, is on the contrary, in direct contact with the body to recount the tastes. Sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami become graphic signs which involve our haptic perception on recognizing the tastes. The collection of bracelets shows the beauty and the inportance of the taste through jewels.

THE REFLEX OF OUR IMAGE OPEN AN ACTIVE COMPARISON WITH THE CONTEXT AND WE OURSELVES BECOME THE REFLEX OF OUR ACTIONS The mirror becomes part of the landscape, opening new perspectives, horizons of perception and interaction with reality. Showing our image, an active comparison with the context begins and we ourselves become the reflex of our actions. The polished laser cut metal and the Centola Marble in grey, hand made in three finishings melt together becoming one complementary to the other. A collection of mirrors reflecting the elegance and the tradition of the autochthonous handicraft.

Inviti Inviti is a collection of cutting boards, trays and not only inspired by the concept of extension, but intended as the ability of an object to live in a articulated environment, capable to adapt and invent itself according to the situation and to our way of thinking, which is not always the same. Behind the simplicity of these objects and their combinatorial flexibility an open dialogue is set among the individual elements, the person and space, giving life to unique combinations, despite their industrial applicability. Made of beech wood raw and three types of marble.
CONCEPT AND STUDY MODELS
Emergenze Urbane A VASE WHICH ASSUMES ENDLESS SHAPES INSPIRED BY THE COLOMBINO TECHNIQUE AND BY THE FLORA WHICH FREELY GROWS IN THE CITY A vase inspired by the concept of emergency. Emerging behavior or emerging characteristics properties can appear when a number of simple agents come together in a location, giving rise to more complex forms of behaviour as a group. The “coil” technique (term used to indicate a particular way of shaping clay, by the peoples of South America), has been used since Antiquity to create vases, cups and vessels in clay. This technique was abandoned after the discovers of the potter’s wheel. The aim of the project was to use this particular tecnique, keeping the initial structure and transporting it into a functional element, not just a means of construction. The user can model the structure manually, creating gaps between the rings of rubber. The product has been created in a plastic material which has the possibility of changing shape without breaking and yet keep its new shape. The structure will therefore be able to take on countless shapes, depending on the individual user.
CONCEPT AND STUDY MODELS
Concept Museum A SPACES DEDICATED TO THE ART OF COSMETIC AND TO ITS INSTRUMENTS FROM ANCIENT TIMES UNTIL TODAY A museum of the History of Cosmetics containing reperts dating from 10.000 b.C to the present day. The space available was that of a classroom with a high ceiling at the Isia in Rome. The area was divided in two levels, connected by a stair. A series of display cases were created on both levels, containing small and medium-sized articles. The materials used to build the display cases were mainly wood, glass and cord. The lower floor had two tables: a central one with different types of viewing the objects, namely, small reproductions set on a support of cord, glass sliding containers and elements in wood. The second tables set under the stair , with wall mounted sliding containers. The upper floor had a false ceiling that filtered the light through a mosaic-like structure, a multi use table in the centre, an interactive table and two types of wall-mounted dispay cases: one for scents and one for face powder containers. The museum was designed as a space that could be changed as required, where the various elements could assume ever-different configurations, depending on the subject of the exhibition. Wood, glass and elements in cord are materials that give form to a warm yet minimalist space in constant transformation.
