SYNOPSIS
This research investigates what it means to destroy a monument in our times, when the availability of tools to record and distribute representations of destruction is huge. Many had been the events and the consequent images of destruction in the last eighty years; our devices always framed what was important to keep, and the spectacle of destruction invaded increasingly our everyday life. We’ve been conditioned, imprinted or educated by movies themselves to respond to images like these as sources of entertainment - we go to movie houses where we are supposed to feel a kind of pleasure. It’s the seducing power behind the possibility to create and endlessly rewatch disasters. The futurists saw that the greatest satisfaction that comes with destruction is the clarity that is emerging out of it. It is an entity to which politics, art and design constantly orbitate around. Every new invention brings with itself new kind of disasters - with production it comes consumption - if there’s no consumption there is an accumulation of energy that is ending up recent case of destruction and dissect it, to isolate its causes and effects in order to understand all the shades in between.
