O n e o f t h e m a i n c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s o f t h e s i t e i s t h e S a n J o s é o a s i s a n d e s t u a r y, a s it constitutes one of the greatest epicontinental environments of the Baja California Peninsula. The characteristic vegetation is formed by typical oasis species such as palms and aquatic species. It plays an important role for migratory species, as it is the last resting stop for aquatic bird species migrating to areas in the south of Mexico, Central America or South America.
