Qiu Shengxian

Background: Qiu Shengxian is an established contemporary artist with a studio in Shanghai. The creator of “Mother and Son” and "Fuwa Integration" styles of painting, his expression integrates classical Chinese art with contemporary fashion art expressionism. The artist was born in 1955, in Jiangxi Province and was admited to one of the most noted art academies in China -- Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute majoring in Sculpture, in 1982. Qiu Shengxian comments, “In my paintings a bare head has a religious nuance - in Buddhism for example, a monk or nun often shave their heads - the shaven head emphasizes contemptuous thinking and reinforces narcissistic attitude; not only in

fashion, but the spirit of adventure and open-mindedness. Red lips are a sensuous female representation in traditional aesthetic culture - hold the words, which spring to her lips! The expression or costumes of “Mother and Son” are symbols, conveying more than emotions and love, rather a feeling of the aesthetic and commentary on human spirit. I am seeking sustained and strong visual impact.” The artist’s “Mother and Son” and “Fuwa Integration” bodies of work reach out, with a distinct structure. Not just an essence of beauty, but feelings for love and life values, and commentary on human spirit. “When I create a body of work, I map out thumbnails in my mind and paint the canvas one by one. Some take a month to complete, others less time. I rarely paint more than 20 or so works a year”, notes the artist.

Collectors of Qiu Shengxian’s works: The influence of Qiu Shengxian’s paintings has won recognition amongst both public and private collections. Qiu Shengxian’s paintings are held by noted corporations and art organizations internationally, such as Siemens, Deutsche Bank, Philips, French Art Academy, H&M, IBM Corporation, Van Shung Cheung Holdings, Liu Haisu Art Museum, the White House of The United States and several politicians including President Obama and former Prime Minister Schroder.
