A MINERAL REVOLUTION Written by

“ When it comes to make-up,

many of us prefer to stick with ‘what we know.’ So, what if we told you that switching to mineral products could do you a world of good? Actually, we’ll go a step further… and prove it.

Think twice before throwing the same old products into your shopping baskets. This stunning shoot features mineral make-up, the new form of beauty product taking the industry by storm.” “Made using specially-sourced mineral rocks, mineral make-up is free from all irritants including artificial preservatives, harsh dyes and fragrances. The minerals have anti-bacterial and antiinflammatory properties which help to nurture and heal your skin, whilst enhancing its appearance. As they don’t clog pores (non-comedogenic) and provide SPF protection, you might start to see mineral make-up as an absolute hero. It’s been a good while since a single product, with such minimal ingredients, could boast quite so much. BareMinerals and Sheer Cover are among the top mineral make-up companies, but there are still many new ranges and products constantly being introduced. Yes, mineral make-up is fast, simple and effective, but it takes a bit of trial and error before you can unleash its full potential. The greatest difficulty people experience when transitioning from liquid to mineral is the application process. It might be difficult to believe at first, but mineral foundations provide excellent coverage from minimal amounts. Once on, the foundation stays in place without the need for continuous retouching throughout the day.

1.

FACEON’S TOP 6 TIPS: 1.

Always try a product before you buy it, and if cautious, introduce one product at a time starting with a foundation.

2.

If you find that your skin becomes shiny there could be a problem with your application techniques.

3.

Try not to create too many layers and stick with a brush rather than a sponge.

4.

For those with greasy skin - invest in facial blotting sheets and use before applying your make-up.

5.

Are you finding your mineral make-up is highlighting your pores or any fine lines? Try blending into a moisturiser with similar qualities to create a cream mineral foundation.

6.

Dark circles are far from an issue with mineral makeup, just use a lighter toned foundation to hide them from sight.

FACEON RECOMMENDS: Maybelline Pure Blush Mineral Powder - 50 Opal Rose. Maybelline New York Pure Blush Minerals glides over the skin highlighting and brightening without causing any damage or looking clogged. It adds a soft healthylooking glow to cheeks.

www.maybelline.co.uk Naked Minerals, Luminous Mineral Highlighter. Bring out your ‘inner diva’ and highlight your assets with this gorgeous universal shimmer. Created to look glamorous on all shades of skin, it’s the quickest way to turn your ‘Day’ look into ‘Night’. Simply give your eye shadow an added pop, or give your cheekbones a lift. Don’t forget your décolleté, shoulders, arms, and back for some extra sparkle. Be subtle where a light dusting will do or look like a rock star and glam it on. Either way, you’re sure to get noticed every time.

www.nakedminerals.com freshMinerals Mineral Brush -on Powder Foundation. Perfect for any skin tone, this lightweight mineral powder comes incased with its very own powder brush.

Bear in mind, that as mineral foundations are of such a fine texture, it’s a necessity to purchase brushes that have been specially designed for these products. The best way to apply mineral foundation is with a gentle ‘buffing’ technique.

www.freshminerals.co.uk

A little tends to go a long way, so without putting too much powder onto your brush, gradually ‘buff’ into the skin until you have achieved your desired coverage. If you’re a bit too generous it can produce an over-worked, aged appearance.

A unique, pore refining skincare brush for combination skin that’s prone to imperfections. This targeted skincare product instantly reduces the look of enlarged pores and mattifies shine, making skin appear visibly smoother and more even. Skin quality is improved and ready for a flawless make-up application.

Mineral make-up is amazing at covering redness, scars, acne and even Rosacea. A noticeable sheen is created which can double up as a highlighter, and allows the light to naturally bounce off prominent areas of the face.

Yves Saint Laurent, Top Secrets Pore Refiner Skincare Brush Pore refining moisturizer.

www.ysl.com

Be sure to get the right shade by doing a quick colour match test along the jaw line in natural lighting. With mineral make-up being so easy to apply, and available in a variety of shades and for all skin types, it’s easy to see why so many people are making the switch. For any make-up professionals, there are plenty of mineral make-up training courses that are definitely worth considering, because we get the feeling mineral make-up is here to stay.”

Being flirty, flouncy and fantastic is how all ladies should feel. This festival season is the time to do just that with the revival of vintage sportswear accompanied with striking, yet semi-natural make-up. Can you pull this off?

30

Make-up Artist, Marcela Stipkova shows you how! Step by Step

STEP ONE Prime the skin ready for the foundation, I used Lancôme La Base

STEP FIVE Start from the middle of the forehead and in a downward ‘c’ shape apply blusher. I used Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric no.2.

STEP TWO Shake the foundation and tap the top to ensure no spillage. Pour a little onto your clean hand or a make-up palette, and apply to the skin using a sponge or brush. Ensure that you cover your neck, eyes, lips and ears for complete coverage. I used Giorgio Armani’s Designer no. 5.5.

STEP THREE You can use a ‘corrector’ both before and after the application of your foundation. If the correction area needs extra attention then layer the corrector with a ‘dabbing’ motion to ensure and even coverage. I used MAC corrector no.2.

STEP FOUR To set the foundation and corrector apply your chosen powder, again in a ‘dabbing’ motion – I find that if you apply powder with a brush, you may waste a lot of product. I used MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing.

STEP SIX For your eyes, apply a base close your skin tone before you apply any colour. In a ‘dabbing’ motion (yet again) apply your chosen colour. I used MAC Pearl Cream Colour Base and Georgio Armani ‘Eyes to Kill’ Silk Eye Shadow no.13.

STEP SEVEN Apply eyeliner along the base of the eye. I used Black, Giorgio Armani Maestro Liquid Eye Liner in no.1.

STEP EIGHT Apply mascara. Begin by brushing in a downward motion (to create build up) and then sweep upwards to set. Reapply until you’ve achieved your desired look – and don’t be scared to layer it on! I used Giorgio Armani Mascara.

STEP NINE For your lips, you don’t always need to use a liner if you’re looking for a less dramatic effect. Using a lip brush, apply your chosen colour carefully. I used Lipstick Rouge d´Armani Lasting Satin Lip Color.

Wednesday April 17th was the Iron Man 3 premier and the excitement was buzzing!! My dates for the night were Brian Friedman, his partner Danny and Hofit Golan. Earlier in the week, I worked with the sweet stylist, Anna Marie for the FACEON Magazine columnists shoot. She gave me her card and said if I needed a stylist for any upcoming events to contact her. So I did, only it was the night before the premier! On the day (and in usual London fashion), it started raining in the morning and Anna was running around town to get some pieces. Hofit had introduced me to the insane Falguni & Shane Peacock dresses years back and the one I wore did not disappoint! Anna also brought ‘kick ass’ Golden Python boots by Fury - which I died for. Normally, I wouldn’t have put the dress with those shoes but I loved the contrast for this event! Topped with an eclectic necklace by Jane Bowler, the look was complete. My first stop of the day was the spa, of course…! Possibly the best spa in the world! Seriously – it was called The Corinthia. They have Cleopatra marble beds to warm and relax your muscles. Pure rejuvenation! From here, I proceeded with the preparation of my hair and make-up. Originally, the premiere was scheduled for Wednesday but the Iron Man knew he had to clear the way for the Iron Lady. Since Margaret Thatcher’s funeral was the same day, it was pushed to the next day. That, in turn, threw our scheduling off for our glam squad. Luckily, the wonderful Shauna Walsh at Selfridges saved the day and dolled us up with Armani makeup. I loved the Eyes To Kill palette she used (in copper brown). Next stop was the Daniel Mikhael Salon, where Danny and Joe styled our hair. Hofit went for a traditional ‘do’ and I wanted a super hero Barbarella coif! It was the Iron Man 3 premier after all! Danny & I had worked together back in the day with the Pussycat Dolls and he did an amazing job again! We had fun gabbing until the car came. Of course we were running late!! Aaaaaarrrggghhh….

About Iron man 3 “Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark (Iron Man) against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

Audi was the sponsor car for the film, so their stunning luxury hybrid A8 picked us up and drove us right into Leicester Square and the huge red carpet! Wouldn’t you know, the car in front of us had my former band mate Kimberly Wyatt with her sweetie, Max! I hadn’t seen her in 3 years so it was such a lovely surprise. Mind you, it was no fun on the red carpet. I remember the wind blowing soooo hard and cold! When we got into the theatre, they handed us popcorn and the cool Stark 3D glasses (which

I still have!) It felt like a cozy movie night party in someone’s big living room! The movie was fantastic…. We screamed and I definitely started the applause when Gwyneth Paltrow kicked some butt at the end. Girl power! (My secret desire was to be a Bond girl!) All in all, it was a great night filled with entertainment and glamour. But it all starts behind the scenes with a fabulous team of Creatives! Thank you to all the brilliant artists out there that make celebs look their best! We couldn’t do it without you…” www.amtstyling.com

CHAMPAGNE GOLD What better way to make a make-up statement, than with additional facial detailing. Carla Sakrzewski has created some fantastic eyebrow features for you to practice yourselves. Now you’ll never have to let anything go to waste, just keep on adding items to your make-up kits and start creating.

The Make-up Used: Primer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate, MAC Strobe Liquid Concealer: Graftobian concealer palette Foundation: Cinema Secrets Professional Creme Foundation Highlight: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle Before you can even start to attempt these magnificent ideas, you’ll need to create a base to work on. Prime skin by blending Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate with MAC Strobe Liquid, and this will produce a gorgeous, dewy appearance. Neutralise any redness and hide any blemishes or dark circles with a concealer. You can now build on this by applying your foundation using a Beauty Blender, before highlighting cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and lip bow. With that completed, you’re free to begin. Take your pick!

Glitter Brows When working your make-up around glittery eyebrows, it’s best to try and restrain the use of bold and dramatic make-up on other areas of the face. Apply a warm blush on the cheeks. We’ve used MAC powder blush in Pink Tea, and moisturise lips using Smith’s Rosebud Salve. By combining MAC eyeshadow in Modelette with Napoleon Perdis , Loose Eye Color Dust Bronze Ambition, you’ll make the eyes stand out by just the right about for them not to be too overbearing. Follow with MAC Fluidline eyeliner in Blacktrack and give the lashes a few coats of CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion mascara in Very Black. A great addition to this look is to paint nails with Sally Hansen Gem Crush Nail Color in Big Money.

Beaded Brows Keep this look as cute as possible, by sticking with bright feminine shades. This time, work MAC Sheertone Shimmer Powder Blush in Stunner onto the apples of the cheeks and apply MAC Lipglass in Wonderstruck to the lips. Work MAC eyeshadows in Frisco and Jest onto the eyes, and use carefully to highlight the brow bones too. Finish with MAC Fluidline eyeliner in Blacktrack and CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion mascara in Very Black. Choose from a variety of nail art beads to attach to the eyebrows, go as crazy as you dare.

To add to the look, opt for gold mirror nail foils, which can be found at a reasonable price from any good online retailer. Try Celebrity Nail Foil/Wrap/Sticker/Decal/Nail Art Moon Fishnet Gold- Millennium Celebrity Nail Foils/Forms Professional Celebrity Nail Foils - Full Coverage or Professional Cut. Each pack will cover 4 hands or both your hands and both feet so 20 (Nail) Applications. Get the latest celebrity Look with the next wave in Nail Style and Technology. Available in a variety of styles. www.supplymebeauty.com

Lace Brows Applying the stunning Napoleon Perdis Blush Control will give your skin a wonderful sun-kissed glow. How better to follow that, than by coating lips with NP Set by Napoleon Perdis Lipstick in Denver. This lipstick is not only light and sheer, but it also provides a deep moisturising treatment. A smokey eye complements this look well, so we’ve created one using MAC eyeshadows in Modelette, Swiss Chocolate and Concrete. Begin to line the eyes with MAC Chromagraphic pencil in NC15 or NW25, and then line the upper lashes using MAC Fluidline eyeliner in Blacktrack. To finish work CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion mascara in Very Black onto the lashes. The lace can be bought from Ebay or a haberdashery shop. Create your own masterpiece using nail gems, diamantes or beads. I use eyelash glue to adhere to the skin without causing irritation. Carry out a patch test before to guarantee the model is not allegic to the glue. OPI polish in Dulce de Leche can help you create a French manicure with a difference, just dress your painted nails with flat-backed pearls.

Gold Leaf Brows Adding a rosy tone to the cheeks, such as MAC powder blush in Blushbaby, creates the perfect tone to accompany gold detailing. Apply MAC lipstick in Creme Cup to the lips and dust gently with Napoleon Perdis Sparkle Dust in #37 to create a mattifying effect. Give the eyes a bronzed glow with Napoleon Perdis Blush Patrol and line the eyes with MAC Chromagraphic pencils in NC15 and NW25. Apply a generous amount of CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion mascara in Very Black and make sure to line the eyes with MAC Fluidline eyeliner in Blacktrack. For a varied foil look go for different colour nail art foil flakes, these can be found via Google or Ebay. Adhere with eyelash glue. www.shopcolorclub.com

“Nothing screams; ‘summer!’ more than a fresh, bold and beautiful colour palette. As the days continue to get longer, let your make-up become brighter. Welcome new colour combinations and blends, just as Clint Earhart does in this stunning editorial.

N

ervous about having a go? Don’t be! FACEON can walk you through the whole process from beginning to end. To begin, prime the eyes with MAC Paint Pot, and then apply MAC eyeshadow (in Crystal Avalanche) below the eyebrow, highlighting the eye in the process. Blend MAC eyeshadow (in Blue Noir) into the creases of the eye. Smooth a heavy amount of Blue Noir along the lower lash line for a smoky eye effect. Coat the inner eyelid with MAC eyeshadow (in Chrome Yellow) and brush MAC Orange eyeshadow along the middle of the eyelid. Complete with MAC eyeshadow (in Sushi Flower) on the outer lid. Apply a nice heavy liner, such as MAC Blacktrack Fluidline, along the upper lash line, with a gentle upward flick to create a sexy ‘cat eye’ effect. Place a pair of House of Lashes Noir Fairy lashes carefully along the lash line to ‘open up’ the eyes to make them stand out. Define the eyebrows by combining a mixing medium with blue and purple glitter. Strategically place the two-tone glitter onto the model’s eyebrows. Concentrate on using the blue glitter for the fuller part of the brow, with the purple glitter coming into play towards the arch of the brow. Should any glitter happen to fall where it’s not needed, simply clear it away with some sticky tape. Start working on the skin by applying an HD foundation to the model’s face and set with a loose HD powder. Contour with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder (in Dark) and follow with MAC powder blush (in Pink Swoon) to add some colour. Completely line and fill the lips using MAC Fuschia lip liner. Using lip liner will allow you to alter your model’s lip shape slightly, if needed. To finish, follow with a slick of MAC Candy Yum Yum matte lipstick, and gently dust the lips with pearl loose pigment to highlight.” www.houseoflashes.com. www.maccosmetics.co.uk

JEEZ… CHILL OUT! WRITTEN BY JO PREMPEH Struggling to remember the last time you were pampered? Stressed and desperate to relax? You’ll waste no time booking yourself in for a treatment once you realise what you’ve been missing! “People never seem to realise just how much time they spend on their feet. Failing to get an adequate amount of rest can not only lead to high levels of stress but also cause breakouts and terrible postures - which only get worse if left untreated. Massage and facial treatments can work wonders, and with immediate effect. Massages are treatments that should be a regular part of your schedule. Not only can they boost your immune system, but they can also help you get slimmer by energising your metabolism. Letting go is the key to getting the most from a massage, as most treatments are designed to be a relaxing as possible, without sending you to sleep. Most treatments tend to use traditional Swedish massage techniques. Think mild strokes, soothing tapping and gentle kneading, all aimed at loosening tension in key muscle groups and easing sore joints. Another popular treatment is a deep tissue massage. Slightly more pressure is used to target tension in the muscles way below the surface. Whether you’re stressed and run-down, or if you’ve had a breakout from hell, having a facial is heavenly. Travelling, changes in sunlight exposure and seasons can affect skin in many negative ways. Facials are designed to overcome these factors and can help to rehydrate dry skin, prevent premature aging, target pigmentation and repair distressed skin. Find a facial treatment that includes head, neck or arm massages and you’ll perk up instantly. Many facials allow you to apply make-up straight after, but the aim is to find one where you might not feel the need to. The deep cleansing products will create a healthy glow and ensure that blackheads stay clear of pores for days. It may take a bit of experimenting before you find the best facial for you. However, most salons and spas offer a consultation with a skincare expert who will design a personalised treatment after analysing your skin. Although it often comes at a price, a professional can highlight your problems areas, but also give you the exact products to not only treat the problem, but cleanse, tone and hydrate correctly too. It’s best to book treatments well in advance and always make sure you visit a spa or salon with certified professionals.”

JASON BASSETT What makes a photograph? It’s not the expensive camera, the bright lights and flashes, nor the technical nuisances that seem to hinder amateur photographers.

It’s the lack of bringing ideas to life - it’s the unawareness to what makes one feel alive.

J

ason says, “Why are you are attracted or attached to what’s happening? It’s not always about a cohesive or coherent message, but it is always about your voice and style. What are you trying to say? It’s about being able to assemble the appropriate team for the editorial. You must convey clarity to the team of designers, Make-up Artists, set designers, models, creative directors, prop engineers, stylists, and any other like-minded creative that can contribute to the feeling of the photographs.

It’s not always the sharpest photograph or the obvious one that leaves the viewers in awe. It’s a rarity for anyone to ask me how I did something “technically”, other than other photographers. All that is amazing to know, but photographers are not who I am necessarily telling the story for. The love for it all begins to unfold as a story is being told along the way, so tell it to me in a way I haven’t heard or seen before.”

Do I love you because you’re beautiful?

Or are you beautiful

I love you? because

Written by Jo Prempeh Certain facial features can often be a little neglected when people think of beauty. So FACEON has devised a guide to remind you how to keep on top of these beauty treatments, which can often be viewed as less important.

B

y making sure eyelashes and eyebrows are in their best possible condition, you can enhance any make-up look, and instantly boost confidence.

Eyebrows have the vital task of ‘framing’ the face, so it’s essential to shape them the right way. If you’re doing them yourself, be sure to brush them before you begin and use an eye pencil to create your guidelines. Shaping eyebrows after a shower or a steam facial is a great idea, as the hairs become softer and open follicles will allow easy, pain-free removal. Maintain them with a weekly tidy up to maintain the shape, depending on how fast your eyebrows grow, or save yourself the hassle and pop into your nearest beauty salon. If you prefer tweezing your eyebrows, try to purchase a pair of tweezers that don’t pinch the skin and can grab the smallest hairs. If you have sensitive skin, consider using a soothing, numbing gel, so you can get your desired look without any excessive pain or redness.

Eyelashes can suffer from just as much damage as the hairs on the top your head. It doesn’t help that they’re super sensitive too. A good routine is to rub a small amount of castor oil, olive oil or Vaseline into the eyelashes after removing your make-up. This will keep them from drying out or breaking later on. Keep a good, clean eyelash curler in your make-up kit, curled lashes, no matter how short, ‘open up’ the eyes and can make a look seem even more dramatic. Don’t limit yourself to one mascara brand; sample a few brands until you find one that works best. Consider what effect you want your mascara to achieve, be it nonclumping or lengthening. Why not try combining mascaras? Use lengthening mascara for a false lash appearance and follow with thickening mascara. If you’re concerned about the impact some mascaras might have on your lashes, invest in a great eyelash primer. New mascaras are being created each and every day so your perfect brand, may not be so perfect anymore, four or five months down the line.

As we begin to expose more of our bodies to the sun, skin care regimes can become more intensive with an increased risk of skin damage from UV rays. Although most of us understand that we need to wear a generous amount of sunscreen, it’s key that you make sure to wear the right SPF. Get out of the habit of thinking that if you have dark skin, you won’t need to protect your skin. Everyone can be affected by UV rays, whether you’re Naomi Campbell or Kate Moss! If you have very fair skin, the higher the SPF, the better; if you have oily skin it’s a good idea to stay away from an SPF higher than 20. Oily skin can become easily overwhelmed by chemicals and more oils, which can lead to annoying breakouts. Oil-Free or Non-Comedogenic sunscreens are a better option as they won’t block your pores.

The beauty industry has become obsessed with the idea that ‘less is more’ when it comes to lips. They are ‘pulling out all the stops’ with new and improved lip tints, glosses and lip care treatments, which we can all benefit from. Always begin by priming your lips when applying make-up, as this will ensure your lips remain moisturised and can also help your lipstick last longer. Many lipsticks and lip balms now offer SPF protection against sun damage, so try to make the switch. It’s not only cold and dry temperatures that can cause chapped lips, but humid and hot temperatures too. By massaging a moisturiser into your lips after removing make-up, and gently exfoliating them, this will help to give them a fuller, healthier look. Vitamin A or E based moisturiser do an amazing job.

By working these tips into your daily beauty regime, not only will you begin to see positive changes, but you’ll notice that the standard of your make-up will dramatically improve. Make-up doesn’t always hide everything on its own, so when you have a perfect base to work with, the result is simply flawless!

DID YOU KNOW? Some might find this surprising; however, Iranian women are amongst the world’s largest consumers of cosmetics and have elevated Iran to the Middle East’s second-largest market for make-up. 14 million Iranians collectively spend upwards of $2 billion per year on a variety of beauty products, thus accounting for 29 per cent of the $7.2 billion cosmetics market within the Middle East, the 2nd only to Saudi Arabia.

SKIN CARE

HEALTHY

With such great beauty products readily available, it’s easy to forget that everyone needs to have a good skincare regime in place.

T

aking care of your skin is a sure way to reduce any rapid ageing and long-term damage to the skin. Preventing make-up build-up can put an end to any temporary skin problems like breakouts and blackheads. Taking you through step-by-step, this is just one of many skincare regimes you can bring into your daily life. This regime is suitable for not only heavy make-up but also light daytime looks. Our model is wearing MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat all set using MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. She is also wearing MAC Bronzing Powder and MAC Lip Conditioner + Strobe Cream Hydratant Lumineux on her lips. The eyes tend to take the most make-up, especially when pulling off a smoky look, so we’ve filled in and shaped her eyebrows with MAC Brun and applied multiple MAC eyeshadows (in shades Phloof!, Mulch, Goldmine and Blanc Type).

1

To finish, we added MAC Zoom Lash Mascara for that dramatic false lash effect.

2

Now our make-up has been applied we can demonstrate the most effective ways to remove it and maintain amazing skin. When removing make-up it’s always best to pay the most attention to the eye area. One of the tell-tale areas for signs of aging, the eye tends to have very delicate skin in comparison to the other areas of the face, so often needs gentle attention. An excellent product for removing heavy eye make-up is MAC Pro Eye Makeup Remover. Simply

3

The next stage involves removing the rest of the make-up. Work MAC Cremewash into a lather before applying onto the face and gently scrubbing the skin. Continue until you’re satisfied that every ounce of your base has been removed. Make sure not to forget the edges of your face, as this area can sometimes be

4 With your skin now clean, we can bring in the maintenance techniques to ensure smooth, soft skin in the long run. Return to the eye area and smooth MAC Fast Response Eye Cream into the skin surrounding the eyes. Don’t feel the need to over work the area as this can do more harm than good.

5

6 To take care of any possible blemishes, masks are the best way to go. Here we’ve opted for a Dead Sea Mask due to the vast number of benefits. Not only does it help to remove dead skin cells and allow your skin to breathe, but they’re also full of nutrients that prevent inflammation, ageing and heals problem skin.

The sun is constantly creating damage within the skin, so products with sun protection should always stay at the top of your list. Seal the lips with MAC Lip Conditioner, after gentle exfoliation to remove any remaining dead skin. This will help to seal in moisture and will also create a gentle, natural plumping effect.

7

Freshen up your skin with MAC Prep+Prime Fortified Skin Enhancer Illuminateur De Teint SPF 35, and gently massage into the apples of the cheeks and central facial area. It will effectively take care of any other imperfections. Fortified with complexionboosting nutrients, it will add a subtle radiance whilst calming down any redness or blotchiness of the skin.

8 The skincare regime is almost complete, so before calling it a day, seal all the goodness with MAC Strobe Cream Hydratant Lumineux. This will freshen and brighten the skin and provide you with the best possible glow!

Most people may think only fairer-haired people need to watch out for UV damage to their hair, but this isn’t true. Those with brunette hair are equally susceptible to sun damage. Be sure to use summer hair care products with natural UV protection. It’s also a good idea to give your locks a quick rinse after heavy sun exposure or after the pool.

2

If you are planning to go for a dip, remember that chlorinated water can cause even light brown hair to turn a slightly ‘green’ shade. If this happens, a quick remedy (well-known by blondes) is to give hair a gentle acidic rinse using diluted lemon juice or by dissolving aspirin in water.

3

Whether you’re a natural brunette, or newly transitioning to the darker side, try to introduce warmer shades into your make-up. Rose and deep berry shades help to bring out the eyes and accentuate the lips.

4

Just because you have dark hair, doesn’t mean you can’t have highlights. Opt for highlights one or two shades lighter than your hair colour. The aim is for them to be subtle, so any lighter and the look simply won’t work. If you’re unsure, visit a professional and let them guide you in choosing your highlights. If highlights aren’t for you, you can achieve a similar effect with a tinting hair crème, as they can always be rinsed out. Be sure to choose an ammonia-free product.

5

Suffer from dry hair? Treat your hair with hydrating, Vitamin A and E boosting, argon and olive oils. You’ll get the best results if applied just after a shower or before a blow dry. These oils condition the hair whilst providing a healthy, long-lasting, natural shine.

6

For easily achievable, gentle waves, create some volume with a dry shampoo. Warm a small amount of texture balm in the palms of your hands, and smooth into the hair from root to the tips. Don’t use too much product, as this will give your hair a flat appearance. For tighter waves, scrunch you hair and spritz with a light salt spray or spray styling gel.
