Director: Alfonso Cuarón. Starring: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney. USA/UK 2013. 91 mins.
An Oscar-worthy Judi Dench plays the titular character seeking out the illegitimate son taken from her whilst she served in one of Ireland’s notorious convents. In this she is aided by journalist Martin Sixsmith (Coogan), whose dogged tactics lead them to a series of superb plot twists. Stephen Frears (THE QUEEN) draws remarkable performances from this odd couple, whose earthy chemistry, coupled with a sharp and very funny script, make PHILOMENA a true delight. Contains infrequent strong language and moderate sex references.
A wisecracking veteran astronaut (Clooney) and a rookie scientist (Bullock) find themselves stranded in space after an accident. The two leads give emotionally compelling performances as their predicament steadily worsens, but above all it’s the stunning visual achievements of director Cuarón (CHILDREN OF MEN) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki that will leave you reeling with amazement. Contains sustained moderate threat, disturbing images and strong language.

Director: Francis Lawrence. Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland. USA 2013. TBC mins.
Since the 1950s Alabama’s Fame Studios has become legendary for its unique ‘Muscle Shoals sound’. This documentary charts its story primarily through interviews with its founder, Rick Hall, and many of the musicians who’ve used it, including Gregg Allman, Etta James, the Rolling Stones, Wilson Pickett, Jimmy Cliff and Aretha Franklin. Hall talks candidly about his life, and rousing archive performances add to the film’s immense likeability.
The second part of the thrilling sci-fi trilogy revisits Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson), victors of the 74th annual Hunger Games, which President Snow (Sutherland) uses to keep the population distracted and terrified. Snow now decrees that the 75th event will expose the young heroes to a potentially deadly fate – but Katniss and Peeta are beginning to realise that mutiny is fomenting in their homeland.

MarkMurphy Programme Technician What'sthebestthingaboutFACT? The extremely diverse projects going on here! In my first month I've worked on a set of cross continental live streaming binoculars, an augmented 360 degree drawing workshop linked with Montreal and a hacked knitting machine.
Mental Manipulation
What'smakingyouexcitedatthe moment? (atFACT) I’m looking forward to our last exhibition of the year, Time & Motion: Redefining Working Life. It’s shaping up to be a huge exhibition that will make us rethink our relationship with work. Whowouldbeyourcollaborationdreamteam? Probably someone like Robert Lepage and Bedwyr Williams. Robert created and directed one of the most spectacular pieces of theatre I've seen called Kà in it's own custom built venue in Las Vegas. Bedwyr is a performance artist who represented Wales in this year’s Venice Biennale. I think the combination would produce an incredible visual feast that I'd be first in the queue for. Tellus....(afact,asecretorajoke) The total weight of all the ants in the world is about the same, if not more than the weight of all the humans on the earth. Seriously. Thanks to Google for this.
