This project seeks to explore the concept of sustainable urban regeneration in the context of Hastings.
It is about developing and illustrating how cultural regeneration could form the basis for the
sustainable planning to address key issues facing communities in Hastings. It does so against a
background of a town in acute deprivation, economic challenge, and in anticipation of continuing
stringent cuts in public expenditure. The project aims to take a strategic view of how an area such as
Hastings can regenerate through sustainable socio-economic and physical advancement.
The purpose of the study is to provide a comprehensive review of the Hastings town centre and White
Rock areas in terms of Sustainable Urban Regeneration to support emerging trends that challenge the
current use, target change and inspire action to guide future investment and activity within the study
area.
