Miami Art Week Is Here The city is buzzing this month with Miami Art Week, and once again Faena Festival spearheads thoughtprovoking, multidisciplinary experiences transcending the traditional boundaries of art. Miami has a soul: at once glamourous and extravagant, yet real and approachable. Nowhere is the spirit of the city as fully vivisected and laid on display as during Art Basel, the cornerstone of Miami Art Week. Every December, the city comes alive with a vibrant collection of principal and satellite art fairs, showcasing artwork from thousands of leading and emerging contemporary artists, as well as who’s who parties, celebrity performances and VIP events. For a few heady days, Miami becomes the axis of the art world, with an open invitation to come and look—to target your gaze on what you can see, and to gaze back inward at how the experience
transforms you. Faena renews its commitment to bringing art to everyone, this year with commissions, large-scale installations and artist-driven panel conversations. Faena Festival’s boundary-breaking The Last Supper explores food as nourishment and symbolism. Directing a spotlight at the intersection of creativity and faith, Faena Art creates programming that is free and open to the public. Faena Festival “The Last Supper” December 2 – 8. Faena Festival: The Last Supper During this month’s Miami Art Week (December 2 - 8), Faena will present its highly anticipated second annual Faena Festival, which is free and open to the public. For this year’s festival, The Last Supper, a cadre of acclaimed international artists have been selected to create installations across mediums that explore the intersection of spirituality and food in contemporary art. The experiential presentation will animate the entire Faena District and extend into Miami Beach’s public spaces, waterways and beaches. These diverse venues will be activated alongside Faena Hotel’s screening room, and Faena Forum—the cultural centerpiece of Faena District. “Faena is an incubator for new ideas and new talent, a space for social sculpture and connectivity, and the Faena Festival is the ultimate incarnation of my vision to create a platform to support artists, rebels, and agents of change who inspire us,” said Alan Faena. Expect exciting new commissions from artists
Sophia Al-Maria, Gabriel Chaile, Myrlande Constant, Emeka Ogboh, Osías Yanov and Jamilah Sabur; provocative installations by Camille Henrot, Zhang Huan, and The Propeller Group; and mobile video installations by Janine Antoni, Jillian Mayer and Ana Mendieta that will be shown on a traveling LED billboard boat. A Cinema Series will feature nightly screenings by Yael Bartana, Christian Jankowski, Jumana Manna, Pedro Neves Marques, Grethell Rasúa, and Martha Rosler. Haitian artist Myrlande Constant’s intricately-beaded Drapo Vodou flags are hung in the hotel’s Cathedral. Argentine artist Gabriel Chaile has created six large-scale adobe sculptures inspired by pre-Columbian totems, one of which will also function as an oven to bake bread. And Chinese artist Zhang Huan will construct Miami Buddha on Faena Beach
featuring two 17-foot Buddhas sitting face-to-face, one made entirely of incense ash. DEBUTS Art loving foodies will appreciate the Supper Series, featuringOCT culinary activations and shared meals by artists Jim Denevan, Lunafridge, and renowned chefs Francis Mallmann and Paul Qui, who will team up for the first time for the Festival. Curated by Zoe Lukov, Chief Curator at Faena Art, the Festival takes the pulpit and the kitchen as its point of departure, positing the shared meal or prayer as the crux of social interaction and communal connectivity. It is an open invitation for us all to break bread together.

“It's not on the menu, but there is a price. A dinner date with destiny, that money cannot buy.” Consider those lyrics an invitation to the hottest ticket in town where you’ll find yourself seated in the blood-thirsty dining room of Le Hollandais in a completely immersive theater experience. Boy George was commissioned to write an original theme song for the show’s final number, which splices together a litany of pop hits. “I was delighted to be asked,” says the multihyphenate artist. “I remember when the film first came out. It was fun to go back and rewatch it and try to come up with a song that summed up the whole story as
succinctly as possible”, he added. The spellbindingly sadistic storyline tells the tale of a dramatic love triangle narrated by the restaurant’s omniscient waiters that unfolds between a ruthless restaurant owner, his wife and her lover. “I had a field day writing this song,” shares George. “I enjoy being given a narrative to play with and a set of ideas. I had the chance to really sink my teeth into the story and figure out how to depict all the characters.” “I call the chorus the ‘Bowie Mambo’,” he laughs, referring to David Bowie (one of his chief musical influences also known for his theatrical flair) and the track’s Latin rhythm. The tune has a markedly
tango beat, an intended homage to Faena’s Argentine owner, Alan Faena. “I wanted it to be as dramatic as possible to go with the setting of the show,” he added. Throughout the performance, actors blend seamlessly with Faena Theater’s waitstaff as they wend their way through the audience, drawing guests into the gripping logomachy and mayhem that challenges them to question their deepest human instincts. The show’s sybaritic three-course menu comes from Miami culinary luminary Michelle Bernstein—a Michelin-starred James Beard winner—who puts a distinctly Floridian twist on classic French and European cuisine.
Blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, the boundary-pushing production keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until George’s song closes out the performance in a showstopping crescendo. “People will leave feeling emotionally and mentally stimulated,” he says, and without a doubt, humming the smash song’s catchy chorus for days to come.

Living Artfully
A Gypsy’s Dream at Casa Faena MAISON ST~GERMAIN
Grupo Gitano will officially debut its first Miami outpost at Casa Faena during Miami Art Week featuring a modern take on Mexican cooking, iconic mezcal cocktails and tropical, gipsy-disco musical performances.
Fusing the Gitano aesthetic with Casa Faena’s Spanish style backdrop, the Manscapers NY have designed a unique live installation that honors Miami’s natural surrounding environment, while playing off of the fun party sensibilities of the city and hotel. Flowing rings of greenery and tropical foliage will spill from Casa Faena’s atrium at varying heights and feature deconstructed mirrorballs, flowers, leaves, and even birds. Manscapers NY’s design trio will introduce thousands of white florals to the new Gitano at Casa Faena installation, paying homage to the one thousand elderflowers used to craft every bottle of St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur. At the bar, we recommend enjoying the Garden Rose, a ST-GERMAIN Spritz.
ONE THOUSAND BLOOMING MOMENTS
In celebration of Miami Art Week, Maison ST-GERMAIN is adorning Faena’s beloved Tree of Life with one thousand handmade blessings in the form of flags by Moral Turgeman, with the creative direction and landscape design by Studio Lily Kwong. Inspired by the thousand fresh hand-picked elderflowers that are used to craft each bottle of St-Germain, One Thousand Blooming Moments transforms the Tree of Life into a luxuriant garden with each flag is individually hand-cut with intention, dyed with purpose, and strung with love. Featuring rich colors inspired by the natural beauty of Miami, guests can experience an overhead composition of graduating light to dark hues, representing the natural cycle of both the Tree of Life and Elderflowers. One Thousand Blooming Moments borrows from sacred tying ceremonies found across cultures. The flags, when tied to the tree itself, are a part of a beautiful ritual which has been said to grant wishes. One Thousand Blooming Moments by MAISON ST-GERMAIN® December 2-7. The new restaurant and landscaped social spaces will dish up a taste of Tulum and the Yucatán amidst a veritable jungle of lush tropical greenery in the boutique hotel’s main dining room, wraparound cocktail terrace and sea-view roof garden. Known for its chic, fun gathering spots in Tulum and New York City, Grupo Gitano is a fan-favorite of the fashionable and flamboyant. Casa Faena proved itself to be a seamless fit for the brand’s defining elements: tropical oases, Mexican flavors and well-heeled clientele. “Miami has been calling us,” explains founder James Gardner. “Alan Faena is a big inspiration; he is a true creative visionary who has brought his own point of view to hospitality in South Beach. We are excited to complement this by bringing some of our Gitano magic to Miami Beach.” Gitano at Casa Faena will be the group’s most intimate property to date. The entire experience transports guests to another time and place, inspired but the sultry jungle of Tulum and the Spanish-Colonial towns of the Yucatan, Mexico.
The roof garden, which overlooks sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, is outfitted with a central tented lounge flanked by twin bar-lounges, teepees, cozy banquets, water installations and outdoor showers. The spaces are brought to life by designer touches from custom furniture produced in Tulum, to bohemian Indian print pillows, lots of tropical plants, textured plaster walls, vintage light fixtures, and of course Gitano’s iconic pink neon sign and disco ball installation. Gardner and co-owner Melissa Perlman have assembled a dynamic group of high-caliber talent including Consulting Chef at Large, Mads Refslund, co-founder of Noma, and General Manager Robert Delaney, a veteran of Michelin-starred Blue Hill at Stone Barns in NYC.. Guests can expect a modern take on Mexican and Mayan fare and a mezcal cocktail menu that will keep festival-goers fueled up and ready to party all night long.
Reservations can be made at +1 786 655 5600.
Much like Faena, Alfa Romeo strives for perfect harmony between beauty and purpose, passion and technology, emotion and engineering, to create true works of art. The NRING editions pay homage to Alfa Romeo’s performance at the famous 73-turn, 12.9-mile Nürburgring track in Germany. The Giulia Quadrifoglio clocked a 7:32 lap time, earning its spot as the fastest five-passenger vehicle in the world, while the Stelvio Quadrifoglio delivered an impressive 7:51.7 lap time that made it the fastest production SUV sold in the U.S. Striking in unique to NRING Circuito Gray matte paint, both special editions come with unique upgrades like a serialized number inlay, exclusive carbon fiber accents and two-tone red and black leather interior with red stitching, not to mention adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. What needed no tweaking? The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. In layman’s terms: These cars are formidable and fast but they’re sophisticated and sexy as well.

Art is not an object separate from us; art is within us. To live artfully, according to spa director Agustina Caminos, “is to live the present moment with happiness.” Festival goers can drop into stillness with morning and sunset yoga classes led by Lina Pinilla and Caminos, as well as complimentary daily Twin Hearts Meditations, both taking place on the beach near Faena Festival’s 17foot Buddha art installations. The profound power of these monumental statues resonates with the harmonious vibration achieved by a large group of people pulling down energy all at once. There is no better way to top off your own reserves and coax open your inner eye than through meditation, which Caminos calls “a highway to illumination.” The seaside yoga and meditation classes are open to all seekers, as are Tierra Santa’s range of Miami Art Week events and healing workshops. On December 6, forward-thinking designers Helena Christensen and Camilla Stærk will host a pop-up shop in the Tierra Santa boutique, while spiritualists Anabella and Scott will offer 30-minute Astrological Ayurvedic Readings that delve into the forces connecting health, love, career and one’s life purpose. Need help releasing tension and guiding your mind towards New Year's resolutions? Join the Miami Art Week closing ceremony on December 8 hosted by Caminos and mystic musician Jared Bistrong, which features a sound crystal healing with sacred mantras that purify the heart and bring sharpness to intentions.
