Faena Theater draws the curtain on its newest show. Do you have the stomach for revenge? Find out on October 18 during the highly-anticipated launch of Faena Theater’s delicious dinner and theater production, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, brought to life by Alan Faena in partnership with Unigram Theatrical. Brace yourself for a spellbindingly sadistic storyline with reimagined pop music, riveting dance, and outstanding food and drink. As the evening progresses from the slick Saxony Bar to the gilded Faena Theater, you’ll find yourself seated in the blood-thirsty dining room of Le Hollandais. Here a dramatic love triangle narrated by the restaurant’s omniscient cook unfolds between a ruthless
restaurant owner, his wife and her lover. Crafted to seduce your every sense, the sybaritic three-course menu comes from Miami culinary luminary Michelle Bernstein—a Michelin-starred James Beard winner—who puts a distinctly Floridian twist on classic French and European cuisine. Actors blend seamlessly with the waitstaff as they wend their way through the audience, drawing guests into the gripping
logomachy and mayhem that challenges them to question their deepest human instincts. Channeling elements of classic film noir, Faena’s boundary-pushing production will keep you on the edge of your seat as it blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.

beloved by millions and have been used as theme songs for major TV shows. In a rare visit to the United States, Calcanhotto will perform songs from her latest album as well as celebrated classics like “Fico Assim Sem Você,” “Esquadros,” “Mais Feliz,” “Cariocas,” and many others that have made her such a universally respected artist. Calcanhotto joins a roster of standout Brazilian talent who have taken the stage for the music series including famed rock group Legião Urbana, vocalist Pamela Toller, Paulo Ricardo and Dado Villa Lobos.
Every Sunday, dynamic musical duo Mi Dulce Son serenades the crowd with heart-lifting boleros and guarachas in Faena’s intimate Living Room lounge. Venezuelan singer and songwriter Dulce Olmos’ beauty competes with her talent as she sings to piano melodies played by her husband, talented Italian composer, pianist, and singer, Freddy Bozzo. United first by love then by music, the pair has three albums to their credit and have been taking their crowd-pleasing act to stages across the world for nearly 30 years. They love performing live in the lounge because they can “feel the audience having fun,” says Olmos. Inspired by the Cuban beats of music icons Celia Cruz

Nocturne’s L’Inferno: Unearthly Delights The Nocturne series of fantastical late-night dance parties with changing themes goes straight to hell this October with L’Inferno, a fiery celebration enticing enough to make angels fall.
THE LIVING ROOM’S DISCO INFERNO Faena Miami Beach will catch fire on Thursday, October 31 when the L’Inferno Halloween disco bash engulfs the Living Room lounge in a blaze of high-octane revelry. Show off your wickedest devil or heavenly angel in a night of unhallowed shapeshifting. Sir Portela Band will perform with special guests, the Venezuelan firecracker and American Idol contestant Michelle Susset, and Damiano. Expect danceable disco classics, pop anthems and Latin hits under a glittering disco ball in a sultry rouge-lit room. Costumed mixologists will be pouring a menu of hot and fiery craft cocktails including the Haunted Past, an intoxicating blend of Vida Mezcal and Pernod Absinthe with a dash of St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram and Angostura bitters, garnished with a spring of burnt rosemary. Fan the flames of damnation as you journey into a redhot underworld.
In-house guests may dial the concierge at 4021 or email livingroom@faena.com for table reservations.
Shaken and Stirred There’s nothing like a well-mixed beverage to liven up your evening. Faena’s mixologists know how to craft an inventive cocktail that speaks to all the senses. Here are some of the Living Room and Saxony Lounge’s most iconic libations. Nocturne, Miami Beach’s most alluring night of the month, returns this October with a participatory Halloween party promising chills of both damnation and desire. Burn in the black magic of Samhain alongside corseted burlesque dancers, and stoke the flames of your pagan side as a world-class immersive performance unfolds sins sweet enough to damn. Fire is the word of the night: flagrant
pyrotechnics, painted fire dancers, and acrobats on flaming cyr wheels ignite your every sense. Revel in the kiss of unholy hellfire as you indulge in incandescent fun beyond your sweetest nightmares. Thematic libations concocted by incendiary mixologists slake the thirst as the otherworldly spirit of All Hallow’s Eve settles over partygoers dancing to the frenetic beats of a live DJ well past the ominous
chime of midnight and into the witching hours of earliest morning. Show off your mischievous sprite with a dazzling or dastardly costume fit to pass through the gates of hell and into a memorable evening of immorality.

25 Nocturne - L'Inferno Faena Theater 11:30 pm - 4:00 am
The Faena Spritz is a house take on a classic Venetian Aperol Spritz. The updated rendition includes Absolut Elyx vodka and G.H. Mumm mixed with Aperol, while a dash of hibiscus syrup adds a floral and effervescent element. It’s garnished with a rose and a spritz of rose water that glistens on the petals like fresh morning dew. For a riff on a spicy margarita, order a Smokes and Sparks. It’s a heady mix of Vida Mezcal infused with a kick of jalapeño. Bright fresh-pressed lime juice and agave counter the heat and add balance to the smoky essence. If you like big bold flavors, go for the Ron Amor— a palatable blend of Facundo Eximo, a 10-year aged rum from the Bahamas and Glenlivet Scotch, aged 12
years. To balance its depth, fresh lemon juice and egg white foam are used, while a flower garnish nods to Faena’s culture of artistic expression. The Saxony Martini honors the hotel’s former life as the glamorous 1950’s Saxony Hotel where A-list celebrities, politicians and socialites came to play. Reflecting the same golden-age elegance, The Saxony Martini encompasses Belvedere Lake Bartezek Single Estate Rye Vodka, a late-harvest Torrontes, citrus bitters, and edible gold flakes that swirl captivatingly in the glass. Healing Before the Holidays
A WEEKDAY AWAY Play hooky from the busyness of work and home life and treat yourself to a midweek stay at Faena Hotel Miami Beach, complete with generous spa and restaurant credits. What better way to escape from quotidian humdrum than connecting with the ocean’s warm lapping waters and burying your toes in powdery sand? Now through March, answer the beach’s siren song as it pulls you to Miami Beach’s chicest accommodations. Stay at least two nights between Sunday and Thursday and receive a $175 credit. Lounge on a daybed oceanside while butlers tend to you, or enjoy poolside bottle service. Reenergize your taste buds at Los Fuegos’ fire-roasted Sunday Asado brunch and treat yourself to an afternoon at Tierra Santa Healing House to relax your soul with a menu of shaman-inspired body rituals.
Take time to center yourself with daily meditation and yoga classes, and monthly workshops to release familial trauma, join a cushion crawl and practice conscious healing. Also, get a sneak peek at Tierra Santa’s Wellness Wednesday with Biologique Recherche skincare founder Dr. Philippe Allouche. The spa’s guided yoga and meditation classes offer a daily opportunity to deepen one’s practice and nourish the divinity within ourselves. Tierra Santa leans on ancient wisdom from the Yoga Sutra that “through sustained focus and meditation on our patterns, habits, and conditioning, we gain knowledge and understanding of our past and how we can change the patterns that aren’t serving us to live more freely and fully.” To help guests raise their consciousness and release that which no longer serves them, Tierra Santa collaborates with a range of healers. On October 10, certified leader Eric Lopez will be hosting a Shamanic Family Constellations

workshop to help participants tackle anxiety and emotional distress as it relates to generations of unconscious familial trauma using methods developed by renowned psychotherapist Bert Hellinger. Two days later, on October 12, Tierra Santa will welcome its third annual cushion crawl as part of Modern Om’s 11-Day mindfulness challenge from October 9 – 19. The purpose of the crawl is to expose meditators to different meditation techniques and teachers at each of the 11 participating locations. In the Tierra Santa Studio, spa director Agustina Caminos will lead a Full Moon Twin Hearts Meditation developed by Pranic Healing Master Choa Kok
BY DR. ROBERTA DEL CAMPO TIERRA SANTA HEALING HOUSE WELLNESS COLLABORATOR Certain things you believe about pores might not be true. I often get asked the question “how do I make my pores smaller?”. Like other body characteristics, pore size is genetically determined and cannot be changed however here is some good news: You can minimize the appearance. Here’s how: – Unclog your pores. Clogged pores that are full of trapped dead skin cells appear larger, so unclogging can make them appear smaller. Consider an at home clay or charcoal based mask weekly. – Sebaceous glands pump out oil that fills pores making them appear larger. By reducing the oil that’s produced you can temporarily “minimize” large pores. Retin-A or retinol-based products nightly are my go-to.

Sui. The meditation is inspired by St. Francis of Assisi's teaching that “it is by giving that we receive.” “This meditation activates our heart and crown chakras with the intention of service. We are not only channeling light, peace, compassion, abundance and generosity for ourselves, we consciously bless the 7 billion people that live on this planet,” says Caminos, “and karma always comes back multiplied.” To cap off the month, Caminos has partnered with teachers Michelle Berlin and Gina Moon to create a Conscious Healing Day on October 27, where an intimate group of practitioners will learn a range of self-healing techniques to achieve the greatest possible union with their higher selves. Looking ahead, guests will have the rare pleasure of spending the evening of November 13 with Dr. Philippe Allouche, the founder of the celebrated French skincare line Biologique Recherche. Guests who arrive early to the complimentary event will receive a free skin consultation using the high-tech Skin Instant Lab, followed by Champagne, light bites and an engaging conversation on the latest innovations in the industry. Facials will be available to book during the event, and guests will take home a customized Biologique Recherche goodie bag.

– Exfoliate. There are two types of exfoliators: Physical exfoliators are scrubs that unclog your pores through friction. Chemical exfoliators such as alpha hydroxy acids and retinoids dissolve the sticky glue-like substance that clogs the pores; no scrubbing is needed. When you exfoliate, you remove dead skin cells from the upper skin layer revealing new skin that looks brighter and smoother and feels significantly softer. It’s easy to overdo exfoliation, so be careful. Once to twice a week is enough for most people.
Modern OM Cushion Crawl 3:00 - 4:00 pm

The NRING editions pay homage to Alfa Romeo’s performance at the famous 73-turn, 12.9-mile Nürburgring track in Germany. Giulia Quadrifoglio clocked a 7:32 lap time, earning its spot as the fastest five-passenger vehicle in the world, while the Stelvio Quadrifoglio delivered an impressive 7:51.7 lap time that made it the fastest production SUV sold in the U.S. Gleaming in Circuito Gray, both special editions come with slick upgrades like a serialized number inlay, carbon fiber accents and black leather interior with red stitching, not to mention adaptive cruise control and an infrared windshield. What needed no tweaking? The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 505 horsepower, 443 lb-ft of torque and an eight-speed automatic transmission. In layman’s terms: These cars are formidable and fast. But they’re sophisticated and sexy as well. Think of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV as superstar Idris Elba, who exudes class, elegance and humble power, and much like his acting range, the car is multifaceted in its capabilities. The Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan is more akin to actress Gemma Chan, who flies under the radar amongst her competition but is elite in her class for those truly in the know.

Mermaids: The Power of Myth From September 20 to 22, Faena Art Center presented Osías Yanov’s Choreographies of Salt. Taking place in the monumental exhibition space Sala Molinos, the immersive installation was an interactive, time-based work that explored the concept of otherness through myth and corporeal movement.
Taking as their point of departure the concept of a fake archeological excavation of a fossilized mermaid on the shoreline of the Rio de la Plata in Argentina, Yanov transformed the iconic marble floor of the exhibition space with sea salt to create a new territory for the hybrid and mythical body. From the false excavation, to the “news” of this finding which became viral through social media, to the recreation and deconstruction of a salt flat inside Faena Art Center, this work was transformed by the bodies of participants and by the passage of time. Through physical movement, Yanov examined gestural narratives that activate the body's ancestral memory by understanding movement as a codification of gender through social and political discourse. “The mermaid—a strange mix between human and sea creature—is simultaneously a mythological fantasy and an aspiration for a trans and hybrid future. This idea allows viewers to
entertain what it could mean to live within a hybrid body and be part of a collective hybridity, and insists not on ‘either or,’ but rather on the fertile terrain of what is in-between,” said Faena Art Chief Curator Zoe Lukov. “Coreografías de Sal exemplifies the kind of work that Faena Art is committed to presenting: monumental, time-based, site- specific commissions that blur the lines between artistic disciplines and provide the opportunity for artists like Osías Yanov to explore their practices in new ways.” The artwork was designed for performers and the public to activate and transform it with their movements, encouraging participants and viewers to consider a bodily identity that concurrently envisions possibilities for the future while perpetuating mythology from the past.
For more information, follow Faena Art on Instagram (@FaenaArt) and visit www.FaenaArt.org
“We have given Osías Yanov carte blanche to create a new project for the Faena Art Center’s Sala Molinos— providing them with a new platform for the development of a dream project that amplifies their practice and promising trajectory. Their work infuses disparate disciplines and different media with the same spirit that inspires the programming at Faena Art, which continuously seeks to transform, reinvent and generate possibilities for new horizons.” —Alan Faena FAENA ART.ORG

Mexican divination spell with an egg This spell from the magical tradition of the pre-Hispanic Mexican peoples, allows one to diagnose a patient (and to make predictions of the future). First, one must rub the egg, preferably one laid that same day, gently against the patient’s body. The egg is then opened onto a plate. Chinese spell for healing at a distance (with a doll) In ancient China, women could not take their clothes off in front of anyone, not even in the presence of a doctor. It was thus customary to carve small, anatomically correct dolls in ivory. The miniature served as a medium of communication between the patient and the doctor or healer, who performed the relevant cures on the small statuette. Even today, the dolls are used to perform healing remotely. To do so, one needs to hold the doll in the hands to charge it with energy. Then one murmurs the words of healing and blessing, rubs the doll with olive, castor, or lavender oil, and finally places it inside a circle of healing candles. This ritual should be repeated as many times as necessary.

A Celtic spell for the attraction of prophetic dreams Practiced in the British Isles for centuries, this enchantment establishes communication with an ancient dream oracle. It can be practiced just one night of the year, that which precedes the Feast Day of Mary Magdalene, that is, the night of July 21. The first step is to mix wine, vinegar and water in equal parts and to place the mixture in a bowl near the bed. Then the supplicant submerges a wand of rosemary, removes the excess liquid, and places it between the chest and nightclothes prior to sleeping. Do not speak, and do not say another word that day.

Five Evocative Magic Spells Magic is said to be one of the oldest practices in the world. Some people still maintain that magic is a power which exists, potentially, within all of us. Without exception, every culture on Earth has had its own magicians, witches, and magic. This allows us to think that magic may respond to an intrinsic concern of the species, an exercise nearly archetypal in significance. If we could define such practices simply (as Aleister Crowley did so well), we might say that there are those who seek to manipulate the forces of nature and the human interior. This is why it’s commonly said that magicians are the inhabitants of a frontier. Among the primary tools of magical practice are spells, recipes for the achievement of a specific purpose. These are part of the traditional wisdom of many people and the origins of which are almost always unknown. Still, many of them remain as parts of popular cultures even as they’ve been recorded in ancient books or witchcraft manuals. Spells are therefore as diverse as the sorcerers and witches who’ve existed. And spells can remain as talismans of power, supplications of words, mixtures of ingredients, divinatory acts, and prepared potions, among many other forms. In addition, incantations almost always rely on objects like candles, mirrors, herbs, stones, animals, oils, metals, crystals, and even the stars. A good number of the spells we know must be performed in specific places, among which, thresholds (places where two worlds meet) or portals are the most common. These include crossroads, cemeteries, ruins, and altars, to name but a few. To cast an enchantment, it’s always necessary to perform a ritual the preparations for which may include cleansing, fasting, and simply choosing not just the place, but a particular date, often related to lunar or agricultural cycles. Regardless of one’s confidence in the power of magic or spells, the rituals are also deeply seductive in that they reflect, on many levels, the way in which humankind relates to the inexplicable and the invisible. For this very reason, we’ve chosen five spells from among the world’s cultures which invite us to rethink the very nature of magic:

and male reproductive organs. Traditionally, these should be placed onto a shelf or altar in the home, next to any other good luck charms. The magical space is installed, traditionally, in a place in the house where it may be easily covered or uncovered at the discretion of the inhabitants. This altar is said to radiate its power over those who are near. It’s also propitious to light candles near the altar and to keep the objects clean and thus, charged with energy. A Coptic talisman for the protection of sailors The Copts were an ethnic group who inhabited North Africa, in the region that is Egypt today. Being a community of sailors, they created endless spells for the sailors’ protection during their travels. This talisman specifically serves to invoke the blessings of the god Poseidon while on the high seas. First, one needs to draw a picture of Poseidon on a piece of paper. The drawing needs to include his trident and a dolphin at his feet. Subsequently, the drawing must be saved in a small cloth bag such that it can be carried at all times. For the best results, in ancient times, navigators engraved the image onto a piece of aquamarine or beryl stone, the favorite stones of the god of the sea. The amulet then needs to be blessed before setting sail.
