Show Policies • Due to safety concerns and the business nature of the trade show, NAMTA does not allow children under the age of sixteen (16), including infants, in the exhibit hall. Children under the age of sixteen (16) will not be permitted to remain unattended in the NAMTA registration area. • Suitcasing/Selling – Any activity designed to solicit or sell products or services by any non-exhibiting suppliers to Art Materials World featuring Creativation attendees is strictly prohibited. NAMTA reserves the right to escort any participant violating this rule, revoke their badge and expel them from Art Materials World featuring Creativation without a refund at its sole discretion. (No physical product can be sold at the show.) • All retailer/buyers or distributor/buyers must be an owner or employee of that business. If a badge is required for a non-employee, please contact NAMTA at info@namta.org. • Exhibitors cannot register non-member Retailers. • Photography – Photographs and videos will be taken by the NAMTA staff and professional videographers throughout Art Materials World featuring Creativation to capture and record the feel and atmosphere of the camaraderie, learning and networking that takes place. These photographs and videos may be used in a myriad of ways to promote this and future events along with providing educational value. Additionally, press badges may be given to members of the media who are authorized to photograph and video the same. • Personal Photography – Before you take that photo, please check for one of these signs that are prominently displayed in the booth:
• By attending the conference and trade show events you may be incidentally included in group or crowd shots that might be used later for general publicity or educational purposes. HK Holbein, Inc. Daily Demos by David Becker, Master Watercolorist, using the Holbein Artist Watercolor line.
While David Becker works in many mediums, he is best known for his watercolor scenes of Chicago; the city in which he has spent most of his life and artistic career. After studying at The American Academy of Art, he became an illustrator for advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, and then for Foote Cone and Belding. He also started teaching around the country, but always found time for his favorite ambition: creating fine art paintings. Many of his works are hanging in homes and businesses throughout Chicago. His favorite painting, a commission from Starbucks, features a view of Wabash including the “L” platform, as seen from a window in Starbuck’s Macy’s location at Randolph and Wabash. It hung for years in the store’s northeast corner. David is the author of Watercolor Composition Made Easy, and How to Sketch with Watercolor. His articles have been published in International Artist Magazine and in Watercolor Magic. Congratulations To Our Honorees Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement The Hall of Fame inductee and the Lifetime Achievment Award recipients from 2020 will be recognized at the Welcome Reception on Saturday, April 9, at 5:30 pm in the Junior Ballroom of the Rosen Centre.
Steve Aufhaüser NAMTA Hall of Fame Continental Art Supplies Steve has been in the art materials industry since practically birth. He served on NAMTA’s Board of Directors, including a term as NAMTA’s president. “His brash and sarcastic wit is a breath of sassy air,” noted his peers in the association, along with, “Very popular and vocal, and had tons of friends in the industry. Always concerned with quality and integrity,” and “Steve always brought levity to the table, but when it was time to get down to business, he was relentless in his efforts to improve the art materials trade.” Steve joined his family’s retail business at the age of 25 and ultimately ran the store. It operated for 50 years in Southern California. During his career, Steve was a great supporter of the Los Angeles art community, attending gallery shows, art walks, and open studio events. He lectured at local schools, provided space for art shows in his store, and donated art materials to private non-profit organizations that wanted to start their own art programs.
David Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award DLT2 A true gentleman, independent representative Dave Thompson is described by the people who know and work with him as a professional, industrious, honest, and collaborative, with a lifetime of commitment and care for a wide swath of customers. Dave advocates for both his customers and his manufacturers. With his expertise regarding products and marketing, and attention to details that others may have missed, he is dedicated to retailer success. Dave was instrumental in getting the Independent Art Materials Retail Marketing Co-Op – iAMart – up and running and continuing to grow.
